people ask me if i regret making this post because it blew up and people clown on it sometimes. but i don't regret it for a second, i actually enjoy that people rb it and add tags that explain their own boundaries for their own tumblr experience. it inspires conversation. people have made friends because of this post! fuck yeah go stupid.

the whole mutual thing is really overhyped on this site. sometimes interests don’t match up and that’s the only reason why there isn’t a mutual following. if you’re a regular in my inbox or my notifications, i have visited your blog before. if i didn’t want you around for any reason, you would be blocked. so yeah. you can spam my notes and/or talk with me (and possibly become my friend) even if i’m not following you back. no worries.

Hey... you probably hear this a lot, I just wanted to say Thank You for that Mutuals Are Overhyped post. I always go back to it whenever I introduce two friends and within a few weeks they're pretty much exclusively hanging out with each other. ^^;

aw!! no worries, i haven't had people talk to me directly about that post in years, and i'm always happy to hear if it helped. when i joined tumblr years ago, i had a super unhealthy view of the whole mutual dynamic and popularity, and that post was like a final step for me, being able to share what i'd been able to hammer into my own head. tumblr has been way more enjoyable ever since obviously!! 💙

hello sir I’ve been wanting to start listening to TMA but I’m nervous about it because I don’t know what to expect I guess lol it’s kinda stupid,, but you’re like an expert so I came here

hmm i see. i guess here are a list of spoiler-free “warnings” from someone who’s all caught up:

- it’s a horror podcast with a “mystery of the week” kind of structure, though there is an overarching plot that develops throughout the seasons

- because it’s horror, it deals with a lot of spooky shit. there are a few episodes that have kept me awake at night. none of the horror relies on racist/sexist/ableist/homophobic tropes though, which is good, but it’s still scary as hell sometimes, so watch out for that. if i’m not mistaken, every episode description has content warnings, so i recommend checking those out.

- tma is also a tragedy. people die, including main characters, which is something to keep in mind as well. i get hit by that stuff pretty hard, so just a heads up

with all that in mind, here’s why i think people should listen to it despite (because of?) what i just said!

- canon lgbt+ characters. a lot of them. main characters, side characters. gays are everywhere. this podcast is for gay people.

- incredible writing. i still don’t generally describe myself as a fan of horror, but tma has me hooked anyway. both the self contained and the overarching stories are fantastic. it’s one of those shows where little details from, like, the first episode come up again and again later in the most satisfying ways. i love it

- this is gonna seem contradictory to some of what i said before, but it’s actually also a really fun show sometimes? like there are these golden nuggets of humor and heart that are just, such a delight to listen to

- the characters. heroes, villains, everything in between. they’re fucking great. a lot of them are assholes but still

- the entire concept. i’m not gonna spoil anything for you, but suffice to say there’s a lot of supernatural shit going on, and the lore is INCREDIBLE. i love the world of tma, even if it’s nightmarish

- THE NARRATIVE FRAMEWORK…THE META OF IT ALL…HNNNGGG IT’S SO GOOD

TL;DR: all in all, i’d recommend giving it a shot!! i didn’t think horror was my thing until i listened to tma, and i haven’t been able to shut up about for the past like 6 months so! it’s good!!!
