While digging a lake on our land, my family found the bones of an ancient Irish elk!!

also have some of the pedestal mounts I only barely managed to refrain myself from carting home:

(red hartebees.t and wildebees.t from Little Tony's Trading Post and sik.a from Coble Taxidermy Emporium)

was so sad I couldn't take all these guys home with me. they were all so gorgeous but I just don't have the space ;o; (either at home or in my car, sobs)

#vulture culture #skull #bones #hes a young p.ossum i found in a dried up water runoff ditch #perfectly de-meated by the time i saw him #was v grateful. and had been completely untouched. he was so young not all of his bone platelets had fused together yet #so he just fell apart #already degreased/whitened now im just reassembling #which is SO much fun (lying)

for people who have any interest in taxidermy or appreciation of it, i cannot recommend enough the film "Stuffed" on amazon. its a documentary that covers a handful of different artists around the world and shows almost every aspect of taxidermy in its truest form. the art aspect, scientific aspect, controversial history and how it evolved, competitions, art, preservation, differing opinions on hunting and the ethics of it. all these amazing taxidermists and how they started and learned.

its truly done with such respect and love and never plays into stereotypes or cheapens it, truly i cant say enough good things about it

The fossilized skull of a Falkland Islands wolf, a rare find given the islands’ often acidic soil, which makes preservation difficult. Found on the grounds of Spring Point Farm on West Falkland, the skull is now on display at the Falkland Islands Museum and National Trust, East Falkland. [ x ]

walking the dog this morning and stepped over a tail / paw / what looked like unnervingly intact whole organs of a rat/mouse just lying on the sidewalk. if this is an omen of some kind i cant imagine what itd be for

#it was just. weird #the tail and paw were perfectly intact too #and the organs looked like just a small heap of intenstives and a stomach??? no idea #but i wasnt exactly stopping to study them #just very. odd. #animal death

update: pleasantly surprised at the whitening effectiveness of coating bones in a hydrogen peroxide/baking soda paste and then leaving them directly under a uv light

#so far ive just tried it on deer jaw bones and a fucked up deer shoulder #not sure how itll fare on the larger skulls but doesnt hurt to try #vulture culture #bones
