The Exsultet
Rejoice now, heavenly hosts and choirs of angels, and let your trumpets shout Salvation for the victory of our mighty King.
Rejoice and sing now, all the round earth, bright with a glorious splendor, for darkness has been vanquished by our eternal King.
Rejoice and be glad now, Mother Church, and let your holy courts, in radiant light, resound with the praises of your people.
All you who stand near this marvelous and holy flame, pray with me to God the Almighty for the grace to sing the worthy praise of this great light; through Jesus Christ his Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, we pray you to set your passion, cross, and death between your judgement and our souls, now and in the hour of our death. Give mercy and grace to the living; pardon and rest to the dead; to your holy Church peace and concord; and to us sinners everlasting life and glory; for with the Father and the Holy Spirit you live and reign, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? And are so far from my cry and from the words of my distress.” Psalm 22:1
Almighty Father, whose dear Son, on the night before he suffered, instituted the Sacrament of his Body and Blood: Mercifully grant that we may receive it thankfully in remembrance of Jesus Christ our Lord, who in these holy mysteries gives us a pledge of eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who in these holy mysteries gives us a pledge of eternal life; and who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (Source: The Book of Common Prayer).

“But I will call upon God, and the Lord will deliver me.” —Psalm 55:17
We are in the midst of Holy Week and the readings tend to be dark. But yet, there in the midst is this Hope! The Lord will deliver me! I just need to ask!
O God, the King eternal, whose light divides the day from the night and turns the shadow of death into morning: Drive from us all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep your law, and guide our feet into the way of peace; that, having done your will with cheerfulness during the day, we may, when night comes, rejoice to give you thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (Source: The Book of Common Prayer, p. 99).

“Let not the torrent of waters wash over me, neither let the deep swallow me up; do not let the Pit shut its mouth upon me.” —Psalm 69:17
Almighty and everliving God, in your tender live for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. amen.

“Who can ascend the hill of the Lord? And who can stand in his holy place?” —Psalm 24:3
It’s Palm Sunday! I don’t like Palm Sunday. It makes me feel uncomfortable. It reminds me how fickle we as humans are and I’m afraid. It also reminds me how quickly things (our moods, our loyalties) change. It reminds me of the power and influence I allow others to have over me, ignoring truth. Ignoring what is right. But as we walk the road before us this week, we also know who knows us. Understands us. And forgives us! Thanks be to God!
Assist us mercifully with your help, O Lord God of our salvation, that we may enter with joy upon the contemplation of those mighty acts, whereby you have given us life and immortality; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen (Source: The Book of Common Prayer, p. 270).

“As the deer longs for the water-brooks, so longs my soul for you, O God.” —Psalm 42:1
This verse very much captures my own heart as we finish the fifth week of Lent and anticipate Holy Week. I long for the return of the Alleluias. The glorious Easter hymns, the victory and hope we share in. But for now patience.
Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, sooth the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love’s sake. Amen. (Source: The Book of Common Prayer, p. 134).

“I will lift up my eyes to the hills; from where is my help to come? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of Heaven and Earth.” —Psalm 121:1-2.
This truly I believe, that God is the creator of all things. That he created with intention! No mess ups! Therefore he is the source for all I need.
O Heavenly Father, who hast filled the world with beauty; Open our eyes to behold thy gracious hand in all thy works; that, rejoicing in thy whole creation, we may learn to serve thee with gladness; for the sake of him through whom all things were made, thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (Source: The Book of Common Prayer, p. 814, number 1).

In this past month we have travelled from snow dusted trails to those budding with flowers. New life is evident all around us offering hope in this Lenten season. My goal to post a scripture, prayer, and image faltered. But nature itself reminds me that it’s not too late. I can start again.
“In you, O Lord, have I taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness.” —Psalm 31:1
Almighty and eternal God, so draw our hearts to thee, so guide our minds, so fill our imaginations, so control our wills, that we may be wholly thine, utterly dedicated unto thee; and then use us, we pray thee, as thou wilt, and always to thy glory and the welfare of thy people; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. (Source: The Book of Common Prayer, p. 832, number 61).

“Why do you stand so far off, O Lord, and hide yourself in time of trouble?” —Psalm 10:1
Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ fasted forty days in the wilderness, and was tempted as we are, yet without sin: give us grace to discipline ourselves in obedience to your Spirit; and, as you know our weakness, so may we know your power to save; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. (Source: Common Worship app, Church of England).

“O God, you are my God, eagerly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my flesh faints for you, as in a barren and dry land where there is no water.” —Psalm 63:1
Almighty God, whose blessed Son was led by the Spirit to be tempted by Satan: Come quickly to help us who are assaulted by many temptations; and, as you know the weaknesses of each of us, let each one find you mighty to save; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. (Source: The Book of Common Prayer, Collect for the First Sunday in Lent, p. 218).
