E6 of a 7-part series of mini fell running films I directed, in collaboration with Rubicon RAW and IMA Global. In this episode, adventurer Rory Southworth goes up against record-breaking hiker, James Forrest, in the final battle, to discover who will be crowned champion. Shot on location in Scotland's epic Glencoe Mountain Region, by a passionate multi-talented micro-crew, who battled extreme weather conditions, in order to document the action (full list of credits below). Although every race posed it's own, unique shooting challenges, due to extreme weather conditions, this was our most challenging one. We were given a short shooting window of 2 hours, during which the weather cleared enough for it to be safe on the mountain. However, a while, the shoot had to be called off, due to safety issues. Luckily, due to the passion and determination of an amazing crew and production team, we just about managed to capture everything we needed, in order to make the film. One of the greatest privaliges of being a documentary filmmaker is providing somebody with a unique platform, with which to tell their story, in the hope that by doing so, they can help others to feel less alone. For me, being able to spend time with @wh33lerboi during the production of OUT OF MIND, was a prime example of this. I feel honoured to have had the opportunity to tell a small slice of Alex's story and in my own way, using the medium of film, revealed my own articulation of who he is. In the film, Alex Wheeler shares the story of how his experiences with aphantasia have affected his life, particularly his grieving process after losing his mum, as he seeks answers from Adam Zeman, Professor of Cognitive and Behavioural Neurology at the University of Exeter Medical School. Spending time with one of the world's leading celebrity portrait photographers. In my job, I'm fortunate enough to cross paths with some of the world's leading artists, and to observe them doing what they do best. This was one of those moments - Watching photographer, Gavin Bond, work his magic with a fast-paced conveyor belt of subjects; and each time, somehow managing to capture something unique and beautiful. The way in which Gavin naturally disarms his subject, through sincerity, laughter and kindness, then takes that opportunity to utilise his acute knowledge of light, composition, camera settings and celluloid, was an absolute pleasure to, not only witness, but to document. A virtual interview with the Bohemian Rhapsody and No Time To Die star Rami Malek.
