I'm tired of all those "10 Questions to ask your proofreaders"
Why? Because I would never actually say something like that to my friends. So... here's 10 actual questions to ask your friends who just read your draft
Favorite character? What do you like about them?
Can you connect to the characters?
Do you know what's going on?
Are there any parts of it that feel weird or disconnected?
Do you like it?
Do you want to continue reading it?
Favorite parts?
Least Favorite parts?
Can you relate to the characters in any way?
Is it entertaining?

Hi!!
I know I don't update this blog anymore and I'm sorry, I've been struggling getting myself to write for months now.
But I have not given up on this project and still come up with new ideas from times to times so here's an idea
If I made a discord server to talk about it, would you guys be interested ?
I would send drafts whenever I have one and ideas, just general things I don't want to post on tumblr because I keep this blog for finished things usually.
So you guys could ask me about it if you want!
Please reply with your discord username if interested so I can add you if I end up making it!

Hymn to the Stars
Starlight Elegy x Titanic (1997) x Attack of the Clones (Star Wars)
Tumblr media
Note: This is an idea I took from a dream. It is basically an alternative universe and does not spoil the story of Starlight Elegy at all. It is NOT canon. The name comes from the soundtrack "Hymn to the Sea" from Titanic (1997), which is a song I listened to a lot while writing this.
Content warnings: Slavery, abuse, sexual assault, blood, injuries, death, violence, torture, piracy
Summary: Earth is dying, humanity has to leave. One of the ships sent to their aid, the Galactic, is the biggest and fastest ship in the universe. Ganymede, who was the main engineer for the ship, is asked to be on board as his last mission for the Asterians. The last trip before freedom. But there are many dangers in the universe, and now he has to choose between saving his own life or protecting the people he loves.
«You have to leave something behind to go forward» —Newton's third law of motion
This story began in the year 11 912 of the seventh time of the Asterian calendar. As a Hybrid, I have worked for the Asterians for a long time to prove my worth and reclaim my freedom. The last mission that was assigned to me before finally being free was to participate in the construction of a ship, the biggest and the fastest in the universe.
A planet in the star system I was born in, Earth, was slowly dying, and its inhabitants were trying to leave but they did not have the technology to send so many people into space. But many people came to their aid by sending ships to their planet. Some were able to simply buy a ticket to board one of the ships, but others, with more limited means, had to rely on their chances of being offered a job on board to be able to leave.
The ship I worked on, they called it the Galactic, and many thought of it as indestructible. Of course, as the main engineer, I knew it was strong, more than any other, but far from being indestructible. But this was probably just a hyperbole used by all of the people marveling at the Galactic.
After its construction, I was offered a place on board for its first journey through the galaxy, to have someone competent and who knew the ship, just in case. I was considered the best pilot, engineer and astrophysicist in the known universe, and for that reason, my presence on board had the effect of reassuring people, despite the universal hatred for Hybrids. I did not care about any of this, all that mattered to me was to finish this work and go as far as possible from the Asterians and their revulsion for my species.
The ship was made of several floors, or decks. The upper deck was entirely made of a very strong glass, so the passengers could be able to see the outside. The second deck was for dining rooms for all of the different classes, all separated, as well as the command room, the cockpit. It was the biggest deck of all. The third one was where you would find different kinds of activities, mostly for first class passengers. On the fourth deck were the first and second class bedrooms, the third class ones being on the fifth. Then, at the very bottom of the ship, could be found all kinds of machinery, engineering rooms and everything of the sort, as well as bedrooms for the staff members and kitchens. In other words, where I was going to spend most of my time.
Luckily, my help was not much needed, the ship being perfectly functional. But even then, I did not leave my room a lot, as I was not very enthusiastic about the crowd of people in that ship or just of the outside world in general. The ship was meant to start her journey on Earth and stop on different planets of the Solar System before leaving it once and for all and would only stop once it reached our final destination, a far galaxy that Earthlings called the “New World”.
I never had to complain about my life on the Galactic, in fact, it was pretty calm. After a few days of reading alone in my bedroom, I finally decided to leave. I went to the upper deck, where the glass allowed you to see the cosmos around us. Fortunately, it was not too crowded, which was quite normal since Earth’s clock showed six o'clock in the morning. The majority of the passengers being from Earth, most of them were probably still asleep.
After a few minutes of standing there and watching the void around us, I felt something strange. As though someone was observing me. I turned my head and my eyes met a human, staring at me, or rather, gazing at me. I quickly looked away, not wanting him to think that I was interested. And yet, the second after, I found myself looking at him again. Our silent exchange only lasted a brief moment before we were interrupted by a woman. I looked away again but silently listened to their conversation when I heard the woman say my name.
“Oh my god, listen to me honey. His name is Ganymede, he is one of the Hybrids. Most people avoid his kind.”
Of course, I couldn’t possibly be mad at her comment. Most people did not like me. After all, I was a Hybrid. The forbidden species, not even accepted by the laws of the universe. My very existence was a crime, but it was not like I asked to be this way. Some mad scientists just happened to find me and do experiments on me without my consent. That was how Hybrids were made. But again, most people don't even think about this. I learned not to be affected long ago.
And I have never tried to be liked, or even tolerated, to be honest. Maybe it was the fear of being hurt again, but it was who I was now, and it would not change. I just kept pretending that it was because I hated everyone. And I ended up convincing myself of that.
“Yes, because everyone sees Hybrids as unlovable emotionless monsters or killing machines. As far as I’m aware, he’s just a guy on a ship.”
I almost found myself smiling at his response. Rare were the people who did not judge my kind at the first impression, let alone humans. Not wanting to think too much about it, I decided to leave and go for a nap. Still, I looked at him one last time, this person I knew nothing about yet who captivated me in a split second, and he looked at me again. Without having any control over it, I smiled at him and left.
The next day was the last before the tragedy now written in history. That night, we ran into a Scally cruiser. Scallies are some kind of anthropomorphic lizards known for being space pirates. They never build their ships or weapons, they steal everything. And this time, their target was the Galactic, as it was way faster and stronger than any of their war ships. They managed to hack the Galactic and to take control of it. They killed most of its passengers, and everyone who stayed alive became a worker. As the most competent worker there, I was allowed to stay alive.
The Galactic’s biggest flaw was that there was barely any weapon on board, and even less people qualified to use them. Luckily I had some of mine with me, hidden in a secret room only I knew. I also always had a dagger with me, because as strong as I was, I could not hope to fight one of these monsters with my bare hands.
Let’s say things as they are: we were their slaves. They beat those who did not work fast enough, many died of exhaustion, some were taken and came back in terrible states, refusing to talk about what happened to them, even though that was pretty obvious. Of course, everyone was terrified, all of these people came on the Galactic to start a new life and saw it already ending, because at this point, it was clear that none of us would make it out of this alive.
I just kept working, they were asking me mostly to build weapons and things to turn the Galactic into a warship. I have never been an anxious guy, and I did my best to keep my calm, but still, I felt bad for these people. Unlike what the majority is thinking, I have empathy, I am just not great at showing it.
One night I found myself thinking about that human again. I wondered how he was doing, if he was still alive. Deep inside, I hoped that he was. I was walking in a hallway, lost in my thoughts, when I heard screams. I stopped at the intersection to listen to the conversation.
“You know, seeing you like this, all scared and panicked, it really turns me on. Let’s have some fun, shall we?”
It was one of them, and of cours, there was only one interpretation to his words. The sound of a kick followed his sentence and I realized it did not come from the creature.
“You filthy little bastard, you’re going to pay for that!”
I decided to intervene, knowing well that if I did not do anything, that person was going to be tortured, abused and killed. And honestly, being able to beat the shit out of one of those disgusting creatures excited me to no end. I came out of my hiding place and immediately recognised that boy from the upper deck, that the creature was holding by the neck. He could not see me from there, but the creature could. In a quick motion, I slit his throat with my dagger and he fell in a pool of his own blood and let go of the boy.
He raised his head and faced the creature, now lifeless. He turned to me.
“Did- did you do this?”
“Yeah. Are you alright?”
“I think so. More fear than harm.”
I held out my hand to him, helping him to get on his feet. “Come with me, we need to get out of here or we’ll be in trouble.” He took it, stood up and followed me to my bedroom.
“Sit here, on the bed. I should have some first aid equipment somewhere.”
“I told you I’m fine.”
“No, you’re bleeding.”
I touched my forehead to indicate where he was bleeding, and he raised his hand to the same spot.
“It’s probably from when you fell, you must've hit your head.”
“Thank you for saving me. I know you took a risk for me.”
I looked at him for a brief moment before going back to his injury. “Don’t thank me. Anyone would have done the same.” He frowned.
“That’s not true. No one is fighting them. If someone get hit, we just look away. You’re the first one I see standing up to them.”
“Everyone is afraid and does what they can to survive, it’s normal. Also, not everyone is strong enough to fight them. That one was alone, and I caught him off guard.” I replied.
“I know, but that doesn’t change the facts. You took a risk to save someone you don’t even know.”
I smiled at his answer. “We'll, technically, it’s not like we don’t know each other at all. We saw each other once.”
He smiled back. “And you didn’t even come to talk to me. I was hoping you would, because I’m way too nervous for that.”
“Today, I came.” I almost whispered. He looked down for a few seconds. He seemed preoccupied. Then he looked up to me again.
“My name is Nyx. I mostly clean. Not exactly my favorite hobby.”
“I smiled again, something I had never done before, and yet I had already done it three times since I met him on the upper deck. “I’m Ganymede.”
“I know. I heard about you.”
“Oh yeah?”
“It’s not like it’s important. I would never judge someone without knowing them. And I would not dare think anything bad about my saviour!”
I chuckled. “I appreciate that you think that. Here, it’s cleaned and it’s not bleeding anymore.”
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” He seemed to hesitate. “You don't have to leave now, you can stay for the night if you want.”
“I don’t want to abuse your kindness.”
“You’re not abusing anything. I am the one suggesting that you stay here. I don’t need to sleep as much as you so you can sleep peacefully. And anyway, those idiots don’t care where you sleep, as long as you’re not late tomorrow morning you’ll be fine. Whether you sleep here or there will not change anything.”
“Thank you, really. I admit I'm scared of coming back right now.”
“You can stay here as long as you wish to. I can even take you to whatever task you have in the morning if that makes you feel safer.”
“Why are you doing all of this for me?”
I thought for a moment, not really knowing the answer myself. “I don’t really know. When I saw you for the first time I felt something I can’t explain with words. And when those creatures came, I found myself hoping that you were safe, that I would see you again, whereas I usually don’t care about others. Then I saw you with that thing, I think I did not help you out of duty, I helped you because…i was afraid.”
“Afraid?”
“Afraid of losing you, I guess. I know this is stupid, I didn’t know anything about you. I did not help you because it was the right thing to do or something like that, but because I thought that if I let you die, I would die too, as if-”
“As if we were connected?”
My eyes widened. “You felt it too?”
“From the moment I first saw you, I couldn’t look away because I felt that if I tried to look away I would never see you again, and for some reasons that idea made me feel sick. So I looked at you until you left, and I saw you again.”
“I don’t know what the stars are trying to tell us, but I want you to know that I will do everything so you can be as safe as possible.” He was about to say something but I suddenly stood up, and went to the library in the back of my bedroom, which was actually a secret door leading to a hidden room where I kept all of my weapons and other stuff I did not want the Scallies to find. I was the one who made the plans for the ship, and I did not talk about this room to anyone, I made it myself. Therefore, it did not appear on the plans and the Scallies did not know about it.
I took a dagger and came back to give it to Nyx. “Take it.”
“I don’t know how to use it.”
“And I hope that you will not have to learn. But please, take it, I want to make sure that you have something to defend yourself.”
He gently took it in his hands and studied it. My initials were engraved on it and the pommel sported a Ganymedian Ghost’s head made of steel, the animal from which my Hybrid DNA came from. “Thanks, Ganymede.”
Days passed, in the mornings I walked Nyx to wherever his tasks for the day were and came back before dinner time. My days were all the same, making weapons for the Scallies or new modules for the ship. I did not sleep much, but it did not affect me as much as Nyx, who suffered a lot from the exhaustion. I knew that lack of sleep was extremely bad for humans, and I tried my best to help him.
Mentally, this situation was a torture, as much as it was physically, even for me. I forced myself to stay calm as much as possible, so Nyx wouldn’t worry too much, but I was seriously starting to think that no one would ever come to save us. I had always been able to get out of dangerous situations, but this time, I felt powerless.
Nevertheless, we had to keep on working. Nyx and I became really close, and very fast, connected by some sort of invisible and powerful bond that I could only explain in one way: Starmates. According to an old Asterian myth, the energy of a star, commonly called stardust, travels through the universe and sometimes, merge with someone’s soul., thus connecting that person and the Asterian born from that same star. It is said that this phenomenon is extremely rare and is considered a gift from the universe itself.
I never really believed that before, but when I think about the way I met Nyx and how our relationship evolved so fast, it makes sense to me. And it was the only thing that still gave me hope. Because no matter what happens, the universe always finds a way to reunite two Starmates who already met once. As the Asterians say, “the Stars finds a way”.
Sometimes we found ways to escape at night for a few hours to go on the upper deck. We could talk all night, watching the stars in the distance, far from us but still watching over us. One night Nyx even thought of bringing his wireless earphones so we could listen to some music together. And we danced, alone under the starlight. Then I saw his face, illuminated by the halo of the nearby planet. And I saw his smile and how he was gazing at me as if nothing mattered but us, as if we were the only people left in the universe. And that night I knew what I was fighting for, what I had been living for all along.
From this moment, the only thing I cared about was not my own survival but nis. Because, as I felt the first time I saw him, if Nyx were to die, I would die with him. There was no world in which I could live without him by my side and that thought terrified me. Therefore I was ready to do everything I could to protect him. So I secretly began to build a space shuttle that we could use to escape. All of the shuttles that were on board had been destroyed, but one still had the possibility to be fixed.
Fixing the shuttle took me a lot of time, because I still had to work for the Scallies in order not to look suspicious. Nyx was still working as well, and I could see his health getting worse every day. So I started to sleep less to take care of him instead and to have more time for the shuttle.
I don’t know how long it took me to finish this project, but I managed to do it. All I needed now was a distraction, a way to be able to get into the shuttle and leave without being chased by those monsters. And that day came. One night, whilst not many guards were near the shuttle’s hiding place, I woke Nyx.
“Nyx, listen to me. I’m going to the cockpit to knock out the pilots, that will allow me to temporarily take control of the ship. They’ll be fine, it’s just so the Scallies won’t think it was their fault and they won’t be punished as hard. I will fly the ship in the nearest object’s orbit, this will cause turbulence and will alert the guards, forcing them to focus on what’s going on there and we won’t encounter too many of them. I’ll come back to you through the vent circuits and we will go together to the shuttle and leave once and for all. Wait for me here, alright?” He looked disoriented, probably due to the sudden awakening, but I saw in his eyes that he understood my instructions.
“Please be careful.” He muttered.
“I promise.” I was about to leave, but he stopped me in my tracks.
“Wait!” He screamed. He took a step forward and got closer to me. He put his hands behind my neck and kissed me, unexpectedly. It was not a shy and soft kiss, it was almost like a farewell kiss. Or rather, a promise kiss in which he poured all of his feelings for me, a promise saying “come back to me”. Which was what I intended to do. I kissed him back, sealing the promise.
I stepped back and looked at him one last time. “We are gonna make it, Nyx. I promise.” Was the last thing I told him before leaving for the second deck, where the cockpit was. None of them were Scallies, in fact they were the same pilots we had since we left Earth. Scallies really could not do anything by themselves. I sighed and began my dirty work. I could have just asked them to fly the ship the way I wanted but then they would be guilty. I wanted to be the only culprit. If someone had to be punished for what we were about to do, it had to be me and no one else. I would never let Nyx die because of me.
About a hundred meters away from the nearest planet I found, I set up the autopilot to keep going forward and left my seat, dragging myself into the ventilations. I reminded myself of the way to go to find Nyx and thought about the kiss we shared just moments ago. I would come back, we would leave this place, find a way to save these people and after that, we would finally be free to spend the rest of our lives together. That's what I wanted the most, and no one would be able to take this away from me. Determined to get this done, I went faster, crawling between the narrow walls of what was once called the Galactic.
After a few minutes, the ship shaked. We reached orbit, and if everything went as planned, most of the guards would go to the front of the ship. Of course there would be some left, but I would be able to fight them. Eventually, I reached my bedroom and found Nyx, waiting for me. I went down and he turned to me.
“Ganymede!”
“Nyx! Are you alright?”
“I’m fine. Most of the guards left but there are still some on our way, I believe.”
“Yeah, I know. But now is not the time for caution. We don’t have much time before they realize what’s going on.”
I took Nyx’s hand in mine and we ran as fast as we could to the shuttle. It was not that far but to us, it seemed to be incredibly far. When we reached the final intersection, we ran into a Scally guard, an electric sword in his hand. Instinctively, I pushed Nyx behind me to protect him and drew my laser gun from inside my jacket. The creature laughed hysterically.
“Well, well! The traitor finally shows himself! Where do you think you’re going, with that thing you bring everywhere. Is it your whore?”
Inside, I was already going insane, but I did not show anything. I would never give him that pleasure.
“Get out of my way, now. I haven’t beat up one of you in too long and you might not like it.”
He smirked, as though he expected this response. “No one will pass as long as I breathe!”
I smirked too and pushed Nyx a little more behind me. “I can arrange that.”
We fought, but my shots barely brushed against his skin, he was incredibly fast, more than the other of his kind I had fought before. I gave a quick look to Nyx behind me and sent him my gun and drew my two daggers, now going into close combat. The fight started again and I tried to focus on my opponent. The fight was now fairer, but his weapon was dreadful.
After long minutes, he hit me, paralyzing me briefly. He used that opportunity to beat me up with his bare hands. He punched me again, and again, and I could not defend myself anymore. I felt my conscience drifting away, until something stopped the creature in his movement. I looked on my right. Nyx, the gun in his hand, just shot the monster.
“Whores can shoot too, asshole.” I smiled weakly at his comment before using all of my energy to stand up, toggling the monster on the side at the same time. Now I was the one being on top of him and I punched him, just as he did to me before. In my outburst, I yelled at Nyx’s attention.
“Nyx, start the shuttle, NOW!” He did not think about it and ran past us to the door separating us from the shuttle, only a few meters away from us. In the meantime, I kept hitting the lizard under me and ended up putting one of my daggers on his throat, threatening to kill him at any movement,
“You got any last words maybe?” I said, grinning triumphantly.
“You will never get out of here alive.”
“Gany, behind you!” I barely had any time to turn my head to see that another Scally was coming from behind, driving his sword through my thigh. Out of breath, I let go of my weapon and the Scally under me was able to escape from me and caught me.
“Ganymede!”
I felt my body weakening, falling into unconsciousness. I used what remained of my strength to turn to Nyx, who was crying due to the panic. “You need to…run away, please.” I could not hear his response, but I knew he was screaming at the creatures.I could feel his pain, and I knew he could feel mine too. The last thing I remember was Nyx looking at me one last time before closing the door of the room. The green light on the door turned to red, indicating that the airlock had been open, allowing Nyx to leave. It was finally over, and I let myself slip into darkness knowing that Nyx was safe and sound now.
When I came back to my senses, I was in a dark and empty room that I could not recognise. I was hung up by the wrists, my clothes had been torn and my body was strewn with wounds and deep gashes. My saliva tasted like metal and the air smelled like rust. That was the very distinctive smell of blood, flowing from different parts of my body.
I have no idea how long I stayed in this place, but Scallies came often to “punish” me. They tortured me, in every imaginable way. I was probably unrecognisable, but the most painful thing was a simple thought. The thought of never being able to see Nyx again.
I knew he was alive, I could feel it. But even if I wanted to see him, with every part of my being, I knew that if he came back, he would be in danger. Maybe he would be killed right in front of me. Maybe they would torture him, too. Maybe they would leave his body rotting here while they forced me to stay alive and watch him turn into dust. And I knew that if I died now, he would never have to come back. But if I died, what would he become? No, I had to stay alive, for him.
Knowing that he was trying to feel what I was feeling, as we were able to do that even from a distance, I hid every form of emotion from him. I would not allow him to know what I was going through and how I felt, even though he probably knew.
This situation lasted for what I thought were years, or even decades. My body was weaker every single day and I did not know for how long I could fight. I was cold, my heart was beating very slowly, and I lost weight at an alarming rate. Of course, they kept feeding me, to keep me alive. But just enough not to die. My body was covered with hematomas and bruises, so much that I could barely see my skin color on some parts of my body anymore. I had infected wounds, breathing was a pain and I had multiple broken bones.
One day, one of them came and sat in front of me. I looked him straight into the eyes.
“I wonder why you cling so much to that miserable life. You saved that boy. Isn’t that enough? He probably started his life again, you know. He met someone else and forgot about you. History will say that you died trying to be a hero but couldn’t even be remembered by the one you loved. What a shame.”
I laughed sarcastically. “Nothing you can say will ever hurt me, you know. If Nyx has a new life that’s fine by me. As long as he’s happy and safe. You have no power against me, and you will never take my soul. It’s already far, far away from here.”
His smile faded and I felt a hint of irritation coming from him. “In that case, you won’t mind if I kill you today? Torturing you became kind of boring these days because you don’t react anymore.”
I kept smiling. “Do it, old lizard. The Stars will never forgive.”
“I hope so.”
As he stood and was about to take a step forward, I lifted my head, what Asterians do when they pray to the Stars. I thanked them for allowing me these few moments of joy with Nyx and asked them to take care of him. I closed my eyes, waiting for a blow that never came.
Instead, I heard a sound, like something heavy falling on the floor. I opened my eyes and realized that it was the Scally. My eyes widened when I saw, behind him, Nyx, an Asterian weapon in his hand. He ran to me and began to untie me. My body fell and he tried his best to catch me.
“What are you doing here, are you insane?”
“I came back to save you, idiot.”
“How did you even board the ship?”
“Let’s just say that I did not come alone.” He whispered, as to keep some kind of suspense. “Can you walk?”
I tried to stand up, but my legs felt horribly painful. “Not without help.”
Nyx took my arm and placed it around his neck and placed his own behind my back, on my waist, to support my weight. “It’s fine. I’ll protect you.”
I smiled at the idea. Before, I was the one protecting him from everything. And now he came back, only the Stars knew how, to save me and there was nothing I could do to help him. He led me to the upper deck, not without struggling, and I noticed numerous Scallies bodies on the floor.
“Did you do that?”
“I cleaned a bit. The others are taking care of the rest.”
“The others?” I raised my eyebrows, confused.
“When I left, my only priority was to come back and save you, as well as everyone on board. So I tried to find help, but people either didn't believe that I was able to escape or they simply refused to help, saying that nobody would be crazy enough to fight the Scallies, especially now that they had turned the Galactic into their new warship. Then I remembered the Asterians. I know you don’t like them because of how they treat you, but the Galactic was their ship after all. I thought that maybe they would feel guilty.” He paused, and looked scared. “I told them everything that happened, in detail, and when they heard about…us, they agreed to send people here. They said that the Stars brought me to them, I don’t know what that means. Anyway, I’m sorry it took so long for me to come back.” He explained.
“How long?” Was the only thing I could say.
“Less than a year, I think. I knew they were hurting you, I felt it, even though you were trying to keep it away from me.
We kept moving forward to the upper deck, but I was weaker each step I took. I saw streaks of blood behind us and realized that they were mine and not Nyx’s. I began to think that I would not make it out of here alive. The irony, I thought. Nyx felt it.
“We’re almost there, don’t give up, not now.”
We stopped on top of the staircase that led to the upper deck, waiting to be able to move forward. Many people were still fighting, and laser beams were going everywhere, making it hard to find a way to the shuttles. When we decided to move, I tripped and fell, and was unable to get up. My muscles were losing their strength and I was still bleeding like hell. Nyx did not say a word. He took me by the armpits and pulled me, using all of his strength. We, or rather, he reached a shuttle and put me inside, on a couch, and I felt the shuttle start. Through the window, I could see the Galactic becoming smaller and smaller. Nyx came back next to me.
“It’s gonna be alright now, we’re going to the Asterian spaceship. They’re going to heal you and you’ll never be hurt again.”
I tried to focus on his voice, but even that was hard. The pain slowly disappeared and I realized that it was not because I was feeling better, but because I did not even have the strength to feel things. The world around me became dark and the only thing I could still feel was Nyx’s panic.
“No no no, stay with me, we’re almost there. I’m going to save you, I promise.”
“You have already done that…”
“Then I will do it one more time. Please hold on just a little longer.”
I knew I did not have much time left, and I should have kept my energy, but I had to tell him. I had to talk to him one last time.
“Nyx, listen to me.”
“No, don’t speak. Focus on your breathing, we’re close.”
“No, listen…thank you…for coming.”
“It’s normal, you would have done the same for me.”
“I want you to know…despite everything I went through…since I met you, my life has become so much better. You showed me what happiness was. You’re…the best thing the universe has to offer, and I’m thankful that I had the privilege of being yours. So thankful…”
“Don’t you do that. Don’t you say your goodbyes, we still have so much more to share.”
“I am so lucky I got to meet my soulmate, so so lucky.”
“Baby, please, don’t say anything, look, we’re so close now.”
I knew I only had a few minutes left now, if not less. There was one more thing I wanted to tell him before leaving.
“My love…if only I had the chance to spend more time with you…I would have showed you the most beautiful places in the universe, I would have kissed you and danced with you again and again, I would have told you how much I love you and I would have asked you to marry me. I would have followed you to the end of the universe, where no one has ever been, because you are the one I was meant to spend my life with.
“Ganymede, don’t do this.” My name sounded like a prayer on his lips, a prayer to the Stars. I took a moment to engrave it in my memory.
“I love you so much, like no one ever loved before. To have had the privilege of meeting you is a gift of the Stars…”
He cried, and I knew I would have too if I had the strength to. I weakly stretched out my arm to his face and he immediately understood what I wanted. We kissed.
“Don’t forget to listen to the Stars…” was the last thing I ever told him. Words used by Asterians meaning that when we die, we come back to the stars, where we belong. So if you look for a loved one, you only have to look up to the sky to find them. I did not want to leave Nyx. I loved him, I loved him beyond time and space. But I kept my promise. I protected him with my life and now I could rest peacefully. My vision became blurry and I saw the walls of the shuttle disappear, leaving only the void and the stars. I let myself slide peacefully amongst them, smiling one last time, and before leaving this word forever, I heard a whisper, like an echo in my mind. “I love you, my star, always.”
And as I took my last breath, I heard the stars sing their hymn, as to welcome me as one of them.
“Love isn’t something that we invented. It's observable. Powerful. It has to mean something. Maybe it means something more, something we can’t yet understand. Maybe it’s some evidence, some artifact of a highest dimension that we can’t consciously perceive. Love is the one thing that we’re capable of perceiving that transcends dimensions of time and space.” –Interstellar (2014)

Do Nyx or Ganymede have any siblibgs?
Ganymede doesn't but Nyx has a step brother who will appear at some point in book I! Can't say much about him yet though because it would be a major spoiler haha
