I don’t totally understand how the exchange works and I think it’s too late to sign up but I think it’s cool that you guys do this

I love this movie and I’m still kind of fixated on it even though it’s been a couple years so it’s fun to see parts of the fandom still active

Fandom exchanges can definitely be confusing if you haven't participated in one before! But we're happy to answer any questions :)

Basically, how this one works is that when the exchange opens, you fill out a Google form where you specify what ships/pairings you like, if you're 18+ and okay with writing/receiving NSFW works or not, and any stuff you definitely don't want in your gift (squicks, NOTPs or triggers, for example.) Mods then assign prompts to creators so that everyone is creating something and everyone will receive something.

Our annual exchange opens around May so that people have around 3 months to work on their creation, with an August deadline, for the August 6 anniversary of the film's release. Then, once mods have collected everyone's gifts, we release them on Archive of Our Own (the reveals). Reveals are happening starting tomorrow and we'll post the link here.

But we also do a holiday exchange so you can check back here in October for info on that one if you want to sign up!

We also have a Discord server. It's open to people who are participating AND to people who aren't participating but want to hang out with TSS fans. You can message us for the link if you'd like to join in advance of the holiday exchange! While we do monitor our Tumblr and email ([email protected]), Discord is definitely the quickest way to get in touch with mods.

No problem! Yeah, the polls are just a fun thing to do while we wait for the August 5-7 reveals of the gifts—it doesn't have any bearing on the exchange itself!

Nope, this is a character and ship-friendly space so we ask people to keep things chill & polite, but we never ask creators to fulfill a prompt for characters/ships they don't want to create for. The goal with exchange matches is to give creators a prompt they're excited for & get giftees a gift they'll be happy to receive!

can reader insert writers and readers take part in the exchange?

Hi! Definitely yes, we'd love to have more creators in future exchanges. Like many traditional fandom exchanges, we first ask for your preferences and then match people with gift prompts so everyone receives a gift from a creator and everyone creates a gift for someone else.

We do our best to match writers and prompts so that people are both writing and receiving the ships/characters they've indicated they want. However, this is a very small exchange (about 12-15 people usually participate) so sometimes we have to ask people to be flexible. In that event, creators are of course welcome to turn it down if they're not comfortable writing something, but so far in our history of running 3 exchanges, things have worked out really well in matches.
