Yeah, it’s a really complicated but prominent issue of transmisogyny. I’ve talked to some trans women who have felt pressured to identify as nonbinary in order to access queer spaces. Our trans womanhood isn’t considered queer enough on its own despite our historical place in the queer/trans movement. It’s a very new vector of transmisogyny since nonbinary is now a continuation of the historical rhetoric of white cis lesbians. I say this not meaning that they’re white cis lesbians but that the exclusion of trans women still absolutely exists in nonbinary-centric queer spaces as nonbinary identities are pivoted upon the white thin metropolitan (etc) masculinity of people assigned female at birth.

Update: Some people are misreading this and I just got a several asks in the past few minutes. Nonbinary identities are completely valid. What this is saying is that nonbinary - as a category - may not be accessible to everyone, particularly trans women. Nonbinary people are not cisgender unless they identify as cis. Nonbinary people deserve their own spaces but should also consider how these spaces may have come to form through the exclusion of trans women (this is why you’ll see so many thin, white, metropolitan people assigned female at birth on nonbinary-centered blogs). There is also rampant transmisogyny from nonbinary people assigned female at birth, just as there is from any other people exempt from transmisogyny.
