1. Vilkas, probably, because he looks like my husband and has a sexy voice and is a hot werewolf. However, I don't always use followers, because I like having full control of my sneaking and controlling them is a faff.

So maybe Companions. I think they're the only ones I don't have major objections to, plus they're hot werewolves. Always a bonus.

3. Preferred home is Breezehome for my daughter, because one of the first things I do in every single playthrough is adopt Sofie. It goes:

Send her to Breezehome because Whiterun is the safest place in all of Skyrim for a child when considering dragons, civil wars, and Assorted Skyrim Assholes

Decide what the hell I'm now going to do with the game

I really like building houses too, though, which is how I now have Big Naked Dad in my garden. Amazingly, it's happened in Windstad Manor rather than Lakeview; I once tried to move Sofie into the latter but NEVER AGAIN

4. One of the guards in Riften in my current game keeps sitting on an invisible chair and eating in the middle of the street, outside the pub. Every time I see him he looks like he's doing some squats and having a picnic. Very charming.

Fade (these two hold a special place in my heart. As time goes on, they grown on me more and more. The more I mature and have my own relationships, the more I realize I want what they had. They appear a lot in my modern fics where they get to stay together forever because it's what they both deserve)

Evalane (these two shook me to my core. I realized my sexuality as a bi woman right about the time King's Cage came out and these two got to have page time. I remember reading about them and crying a little bit under the covers of my bed because I felt so closely connected to Evangeline and her struggle. They come in hot at number 3 because I don't like that they didn't get as much page time as I would have liked, and I'm scared to write them because that involves looking in at myself as bisexual woman and exploring a part of myself that I am still to this day struggling with.)

GisaxCameron (this is my unicorn ship. I love the idea of these two. They give me sun and moon vibes and I LOVE that for them. I also hate the Victoria didn't give it to us, when it was clearly right there. They get number 4 cause they're not canon and we did not get enough Cameron for me to really write about her in love with another young woman.)

Elara and a bed of nails? a torture room? a cold, decrepit grave? eternal suffering? I'm just kidding. Well, not really, but in all seriousness... Number 5 is Maven and Thomas. NOW before you all jump my dick and come for me screaming about the fact that I NEVER write about Maven and I NEVER talk about him and "oh my god lily for real? You picked the bury your gays ship?" I will say that this ship has so much potential and if I actually find the will to continue writing Song of the Pheonix you will get my full digest on them and how Elara destroying Maven's love for Thomas lead to his inherent need to latch onto Mare, and how that "love" turned into an obsession with wanting to get what he had with Thomas back. Unfortunately, I think I have lost the will with SotP but I may yet find it again.

omg hi! you're back! i just got the news about the rq adaptation and i'm currently in an omgthisisactuallyhappening state and a pleasedomybabiesjustice state

hi, margo! i hope you are well and safe. i'm so sorry (and embarrassed) that my response is ridiculously late. i just checked my inbox today and saw your ask. med school (online classes, in particular, due to the pandemic) has been outrageously taxing i'm not sure when i will be active again.

about the red queen adaptation, to be honest, i'm not very excited about it, at least not at the moment. 2016 me would have been highly enthusiastic about it, but at present, i'm just... indifferent to it? i guess it's because the book was such a special part of my life at one point that i'm afraid the adaptation won't be able to do the book justice. i'm afraid they will whitewash mare and evangeline, or the actors as mare and cal won't have the chemistry they have in the book, or a very beautiful/popular actor will play maven and fans, especially new fans, will overlook the things he's done and still ship him and mare no matter how toxic it is just because he's "hot" (as what we've seen happen too many times), or no actor will ever be good enough to play diana farley (gosh, i miss her so much). and i'm too tired to defend our man, cal, against new fans who may perceive him as "boring" just because he's not creepy, manipulative, and killing people left and right. i'm just old now, i guess. lol. of course, i know i'm getting ahead of myself since all we know now is an adaptation is really happening, nothing more. but yeah, those are some of the things i'm worried about.

i know majority of the time, if not all the time, the book is better than the movie/series adaption, but i'm still hoping this one will get things right and hopefully be able to remind us why we fell in love with the world of red queen all those years ago. :)

He really liked it when she smiled.

With a laugh, she nods her head and moves a strand of her hair behind her ear. "Yeah, I noticed, when you're around me and you get nervous or excited, your heat radiates all around you, and I personally find it to be comforting, but I'm sure that other people would be confused as to why it suddenly got so hot around them." Mare replies back with another laugh as she momentarily lays her face in her hand.

Real answer . . . it's complicated. Basically, I started out as a fan of Maven and Mare's interactions who would absolutely balk at the idea of shipping them. I liked how . . . real they felt, how many nuances of abusive relationships they captured. It spoke to me in a way nothing ever had before, probably because I was in the perfect mind state for it. You could feel the tension closing in around you, so tight it was smothering. I read their interactions over and over until I wanted more, until I started turning to fanfiction. There, I found and the snakes start to sing by SerenNoir, as well as Hungry and Severe, which has since been orphaned. Both were character driven smut fics that awakened something in me. I loved how heightened everything became without justifying Maven's actions and also they were really hot. Furthermore, I read my favorite red queen fic of all time (that I haven't written) not the same but even by prettybrilliantfunny which used romanticism to strengthen their bond so the ruthlessness of their interactions. It didn't take long for me to come up with my own thought experiments, ones that built upon each other and escalated until I had a fully plotted 50k word fanfic. I was deep in the sauce, but I wasn't ready to dive fully in. Part of why I was so hesitant to claim it was . . . those shippers. You know, the ones who say shit like this.

Look, if you're a Mareven shipper and you pull this shit, I'm Not-Like-Other-Girls-ing you. I strip you of your membership, I bar you from the treehouse and I await any attempt at entry with a water balloon.

One fanfic that haunted me treated the brand as if it were a reasonable, rational thing to do. I wrote I'm Going To Hell to override the memory, as at that point, I could not write Mareven without some thematic justification. It was a deconstruction, as was Lover's Curse, romance used only to further my themes. I didn't plan to write anymore, especially not Mareven, but ideas kept seizing me, and by the time I wrote the first part of Run Away With Me, I had conceded that this was officially fan behavior. And I've continued to be one ever since
