20 Question Fic Writer Tag
Hell yeah I'll play. Thanks @palfriendpatine66 :D
How many works do you have on ao3?
AO3 says ten, but one of those is a series continuation of another one, so I count it as nine...although tomorrow that will go up by one, after the reveals for the Ghost Window challenge go out.
2.) What's your ao3 word count?
Oh god. 690,376. I honestly think I was happier not knowing that fact about myself.
3.) What fandoms do you write for?
I don't multitask well. I can write Star Wars fics or I can write Star Wars fics. I haven't even ventured outside the Clone Wars era yet.
4.) What are your top five fics by kudos?
Some Technical Difficulties - big gap - Solsbury Hill - An Uncivil War - medium-sized gap - An Unlikely Duo - another gap-ish - Down by the Seaside.
5.) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yep. I like it when authors reply to me when I leave a comment, so I try to pay it forward. Also sometimes we get into fun little side chats.
6.) What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
At the moment, not one single damn one of them. They have angst in them, but none of them end on angst. However as of about twenty-four hours from now, my answer will be, Ghost Window AU.
7.) What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Literally all of them. I'm happy to read angst, but when it comes to writing I am firmly in the happy endings camp.
8.) Do you get hate on fics?
I had some people tell me they were dropping out of Solsbury Hill because it wasn't getting to the Obikin fast enough, but I wouldn't call that hate. So, no.
(Side note, though: you don't have to tell authors that. Just delete your subscription quietly.)
But, I am also very ready to delete any and all negative comments. This is my fun side project; good vibes only.
9.) Do you write smut? If so what kind?
...pretty vanilla kind, honestly. Again, I read much more adventurously than I write. (Although, as recently as two years ago I would have said I don't write smut at all, so hit me up two years from now and maybe I'll be writing hardcore d/s, I don't know.)
10.) Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
By the strict definition, no. If you're talking 'dump Star Wars characters into settings of other movies', then hell yeah, that's kind of my jam right now. Down by the Seaside is Obikin Overboard. Next year I'm planning to publish Obikin Jurassic Park, Obikin Parent Trap, and Obikin Princess Diaries II. And I have a couple more on my to-do list.
11.) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Is this a thing I need to worry about?? Shit.
12.) Have you ever had a fic translated?
@kittonafoxgirl did a podfic of Some Technical Difficulties and it is still like one of the top five most rad things that has ever happened to me; does that count?
13.) Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
No but @fulcrum843 are currently mulling something over...
I do get a lot of help with my writing though. @piecesofeden11 basically wrote all the DnD stuff in An Unlikely Duo. I talk stuff out on Tumblr with folks all the time before I actually sit down to write it (or during, lol).
14.) What's your all time favorite ship?
I have no plans to write anything other than Obikin, and there's so much new good fic that it takes up most of my reading time as well.
15.) What's a WIP you'd like to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I wouldn't call it a WIP because there are no words on a page but I love the *idea* of a fic based on Jenn Barkley from Parks & Rec but have no idea what direction to take it and may never get to it. (If anyone wants to take this idea and run with it please do; it is very much up for grabs!)
16.) What are your writing strengths?
This is a weird thing to answer about myself but I hope I write with a sense of movement, propulsion, even a little suspense - as a reader I love to feel that I have to turn the page, I have to see what comes next, I don't want to put this fic/book down - and I try to work towards that goal in my own writing.
17.) What are your writing weaknesses?
Getting bogged down in details. It drives me crazy in movies when characters have these huge mansions but seemingly never go to work and somehow this has translated into me being incapable of just writing a smutty one-shot or whatever because what is everyone's job and how much is their mortgage payment and do they get paid on Fridays or Mondays and how many bedrooms does that apartment have.
18.) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
See answer above about over-complicating things: I came up with this whole system for An Uncivil War for whether I'm writing out the dialogue in a language other than Basic (I feel like we really only have enough information for me to be able to do this in Huttese and Mando'a, and even then only short conversations in certain subjects), or simply noting that a character is saying something in another language ("he said in Ryl" or whatever), or mixing Basic and a word/words in another language within the same sentence. It was important to me to capture that multilingualism, but it's also a lot of work, ngl.
19.) First fandom you wrote for?
Technically Johnlock but I never finished/published anything.
20.) Favorite fic you've ever written?
I love all my babies equally, she lied.
It's the Can't Stop the Suns series, which is An Uncivil War, Pick Up the Pieces (more than halfway completed), and Sometimes Fate Steps In (loosely outlined). Sometimes I'll just look over my notes and get giddy about how much good stuff I'm packing in there and how much *more* good stuff I haven't even gotten to yet. I'm throwing the kitchen sink of stuff I love at it. Even if the final version doesn't quite live up to the vision I see in my head (it rarely does), as long as I get close I'll be happy.
I tag @piecesofeden11, @underacalicosky, @fulcrum843, and, as usual, anyone else who feels up for it!

20 questions game
Thank you @sssammich for the tag!!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Eight
2. What’s your total AO3 words count?
Currently it's 123,510 words! It felt really cool to pass the 100k mark.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Supercorp
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
No One and Nothing
So I Kept Pretending
Synthesis
It's a Metallo Life
Even Though You're Kryptonian
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I do! I respond to most of them now, because I like talking with my readers! I didn't do that at first... I was nervous that I might appear too desperate or something if I responded to everyone, but now I don't care 🤣 I love my readers and want them to know I see them.
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
For now, I think that title belongs to Darkness in All Things. I wouldn't call it an angsty ending necessarily, but it's a bit more somber than most of my endings.
I think one of my one-shot WIPs may take this title (though I don't expect to finish it until early next year).
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I think all of my fics count as happy endings! The happiest might be Even Though You're Kryptonian, since our beloved idiots are preparing for their nuptials.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I've gotten a few from a known troll, but generally no. This fandom has been very kind 💗
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
I wrote smut once, for Darkness in All Things. There's another fic I'm writing smut for, although it's not supercorp.
In general, writing smut terrifies me. I only did it in DIAT because the characters held that chapter hostage until I did, and now the characters for this other fic are as well. I am being bullied 😭
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Okay... so... technically I have.
When I was young (10-ish?), I read some Sailor Moon fanfiction. I stumbled across this Sailor Moon & Xena crossover, and was frustrated that it had one chapter left and hadn't seen an update in a long time (I don't remember what a "long time" would've been to me back then).
I reached out to the author and asked about it, and the author gave me the chance to finish it based on their outline. So... I did, and they posted it!
I don't know how "well" it did. I think this was on ff.net in the very early days, so there were no kudos, and I don't think I ever got a comment about it.
I'd love to find that again, but haven't been able to. I remember nothing about it other than Rei was extremely snarky. I stopped reading Sailor Moon fanfic soon after, and generally didn't read fanfiction again until my 2021 obsession with Rizzles began.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
Technically yes, see #10.
I don't think I'll do it again. I'm far too chaotic in my writing approach, and far too possessive of my stories, to effectively cowrite with someone 🤣
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
Xena/Gabrielle!! They were my first ship. I never read fic of them (other than the Sailor Moon crossover I mentioned above, since I did read a lot of Sailor Moon fic). For me, their story was perfect, and the show gave us everything I could ever want.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I don't think I have any of these at the moment. And I'd never say never anyway, you never know what a brain will latch onto.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think I have some good plot ideas and decent characterization. But ultimately this question is up to the readers, not me.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I think my greatest weakness is not letting a scene evolve - I'm impatient by nature. I think this is something I'm slowly getting better at, in that my first fics are far less developed compared to my most recent fics.
But there's always a gap from the scene that's in my head vs. what ultimately makes it to the page. Sometimes I don't know if I've written enough for the readers to know what the characters are feeling and doing.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Oh I'd get lots of help here.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Technically Xena and Sailor Moon in a crossover 🤣 That was a single chapter for someone else's story with someone else's outline over two decades ago. So I think saying Supercorp is still accurate.
20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?
Oh gosh, it's hard to choose. I think I have a recency bias thing here where I want to say Darkness in All Things. I do think my writing style has improved greatly over time, so I think my stories have gotten better in that sense.
No pressure tags! @luthordamnvers @rustingcat @jadedloverart @tinyvariations @trashpandato @appropriatelystupid

Is there a reason why you dislike Red, White and Royal Blue?
Honestly, I read it and enjoyed most of it, but the ending I hated. But that's just me, I like fluff, but that ending was something else...
What is your gripe with the book?
RWRB fans keep scrolling. I'll try to keep it nice (post-writing edit: this was not kept nice) but I really disliked this book. I am also NOT AN AMERICAN and I think that makes the biggest impact on enjoyment of this book. If it were a romcom between a random American boy and British boy then I could critique it on its writing merit alone, but the choice of the author to engage with politics in such a brainless manner is really symptomatic of the cancer that is modern American liberalism.
Disclaimer: I did not finish this book. It's one of the only books I've ever DNF'd. I paid real monnies to buy the ebook. This waste of $15 is probably why I'm so bitter.
With RWRB it really comes down to four Ps:
Premise, pacing, prose
This is perhaps on me, but when you look at the blurb: "photos of a confrontation with his longtime nemesis Prince Henry at a royal wedding leak to the tabloids and threaten American/British relations. The plan for damage control: staging a fake friendship between the First Son and the Prince."
See now, to me, that premise reads as—fake friendship, enemies/rivals to lovers, where they slowly come to understand what they like about each other. From a narrative pacing perspective, I would expect to see this click for our protagonists at the midpoint or perhaps the climax. Certainly not them having a conversation and resolving all their differences within the first 10% of the book (hospital broom cupboard). It's been a couple years since I (attempted to) read this book, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I strongly feel that they went from hating each other—with no substance to that hate beyond a petty misunderstanding—to resolving their differences, to kissing and fucking, within the first 20% of the book. What is this pacing??
After that I realised that this book should've been pitched with a forbidden love/Romeo & Juliet premise, because clearly that was what the author was going for. I don't necessarily have an issue with that. It's just disappointing to me because it was misleading and I wasted my money on a book that's actual premise doesn't interest me in the slightest. I read romance primarily for the internal conflict within the relationship, not the external conflict, though having both is fab (e.g. Captive Prince).
I'm not quite sure anything happens in this book. The protagonists are 'enemies' for maybe 10 pages and then fuck for the rest of it?? I skipped pages and pages and pages of 'banter' between Alex and those girls, and politics that read like it'd been penned by a 12 year old, and somehow managed to miss nothing. I've never read a book where I could skip so many pages with it having so little material impact on my understanding of the narrative.
I also found the prose and dialogue very... 'aliens guess at the way humans speak based on a diet of nothing but mediocre social media themed fanfiction'. And I say this as a fic writer myself. There's a bunch of female characters that serve no purpose other that to cheerlead the main couple and be wholesome, flawless, quippy and supportive, because that's feminism, baby. I can't speak at length about the characters because I dropped the book pretty early on.
2. POLITICS
RWRB is very much a product of its time and its author's nationality. That it was written and published during the Trump administration is no surprise. I think, just as Cinderella (2021) will be a perfect specimen for future study of the hot mess that is 2020s liberal feminism, RWRB will serve the same for 'left-wing' democrat politics for the 2016-xx political landscape. It's an AU where a while, blonde female presidential candidate wins the election and leaked emails have no effect on the outcome of said election. Jee, I sure wonder who she's meant to be 🙄
I understand that this book was intended as a light-hearted romcom, a silly romance for readers to turn off their brains and enjoy the wholesomeness. But clearly I am not the target audience as I am incapable of turning off my brain under any circumstance, especially not when reading a book. I am also not a romance reader, nor much of a genre fiction reader. Again, not the target audience. I also do not think you get to introduce politics as one of the most prominent themes and then not have your book critiqued on its handling of that subject matter.
I am far too much of a political cynic to read about this wholesome good working-class American political family that hold all the right views and have no flaws. I was disappointed but not surprised as soon as I realised this was really gonna go for the pro-democrat lens. I'm too foreign to view that party as anything more than middling centrists and outright antagonists on the global stage. Perhaps some people enjoy reading books that put them in a fantasy lala land where everything is good and just in the world, but I think this sort of passive idealism is exactly why the USA is a conservative hellscape in the first place.
A goodreads review that articulates my thoughts well: "This is the most idealized, grotesque, good-versus-evil look at politics I have EVER SEEN. In this book, the Democrats are a rainbow-wearing gloriously diverse coalition of kumbaya-singing angels, and everyone else is a villain we won’t talk about. Democrats are 100% motivated purely by the love of Doing The Right Thing, and they have never done anything wrong, ever, in their lives. The American people love them implicitly and will turn historically red states blue just to show them that. It’s not only sickening, it’s damaging. DO NOT IDEALIZE POLITICIANS."
And even moving away from politics to just address the wealth and privilege of these characters who fly back and forth over the pond on private jets to see each other... like, I don't have an issue with rich MCs (tbh Henry should be exactly my fave type), but I do have an issue with the desperate, self-aware attempts the author makes to keep things 'progressive'. Yeah, sure the characters lampshade their privilege. But these themes are not engaged with in any meaningful way, to the point where I wish they'd been excluded entirely. If you're going to write a book about the top 0.000001%'s issues, at least be unapologetic about it. If you keep mentioning privilege but do nothing about it then it feels hollow and insincere. I have nothing but contempt for philanthropy, so don't get me started on that.
Bonus: (not a P but) Anglophilia
As a foreigner from a culture closer to the UK than the US, the British fetishism vibes were pretty hilarious. I am certainly not gonna call it 'problematic' (I hate that word regardless). It's just cringe and excruciating to read. No one talks like that! No one. Not even the Prince of England.
Edit: this goodreads reviewer really gets it

Hellooo!! I've been reading your fics for a while and you inspired me to start writing! I wanna continue and maybe even post some stuff on Tumblr! (not really mentally stable enough to post on AO3 and or Wattpad atm) I've been thinking of starting a new Tumblr blog just based for fics! I'm unsure how to start it or how to really have it play through or what I should do.. like the formatting or the wording and stuff... I'm still fairly new to making fics so I haven't posted anything, I do have a few fics I've made but I just haven't posted it since I'm still really unsure.
I really do love your writing and your fics and I want to try it out! You make great fics and I just seriously love it UGH! Anwys sorry bout that..
Any advice or help?
(ps: can I be 🎹 or 📜 anon?)
Hiya darling, Oh my gosh you're so sweet! Honestly feel you about posting on AO3, Wattpad isn't the best place tbf as a lot of plagiarism happens there but I get your apprehension!! asdfghjkl; I'm not sure if I'm the best help but I'll gladly try and help (or even if I cant I'll post it for other writers to be able to give advice)
Thank you so so much!!!
Formatting wise I have some videos on how to make masterlists and linebreakers/page breakers if those are of any use to you?!
Writing/wording wise I would go with whatever is best for you? Sometimes I find that writing in third person is easier but other days it's easier for me to write in first POV and I can change it up when I've finished the piece. I use grammarly a lot as it catches my grammar mistakes but after I place it in a google doc just to change the font and reread it (as I have dyslexia so seeing it in another font helps me pick up on small or big mistakes I make)
My biggest advice to give. Don't pressure yourself about it, take your time and remember why you're doing it in the first place. For example. I love writing as it helps me escape my reality and I really enjoy being able to do what I love on a day to day basis. I remind myself I'm mostly doing it because it makes me happy.
Find a routine that it's great for you. I used to write ALLLLLLLLL the time. When I first started I was post 7 days a week and twice daily (how the fuck I did that I'll never even know) but it wasn't good, I burnt out within about 6 months of doing that and ended up changing it all up. I have a schedule now.
Posting on set days and having it written on your account somewhere can really help too. I do Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and then I have a time I post to as well to help people keep track of everything.
When writing, try and take regular breaks, don't stare at your screen for too long. I try and use the Pomodoro methods. Working for 20 having a 5 minute break, or 30 minutes and a 10 minute break. There are some cool videos out there to help. I've been using a lot of different streamers recently as it helps me focus more.
If I (or anyone else) can help let us know!

Good evening, Laurie! I came to ramble about one of my favourite fics in exchange to hear about yours! Ballad of Empires is the one dearest to my heart. It just gives me comfort.
It is a fantasy book (possible duology). The plot is that a usurpator named Danaham had overthrown the ruler of Elyria and the queen had had to flee with her infant and unborn child, leaving her children in secret with relatives after birth. 21 years in the future, Danaham has established a regime of terror and threatens the neighbouring kingdoms with war if they support the rebels. Among the rebels is Griffin, who, along with companions, is trying to restore kingship and overthrow Danaham. To do this, however, they must first find the sword of the rightful king. They are pursued by Skerils and soon find themselves caught in a web of intrigue, betrayal, friendship, death and love.
This is a really rough summary but what else can be said about some out of the thirteen main characters?
We have Griffin who is reluctant to become king of Elyrien. We have Griffin's brother Obil who has become a ghost which only one can find. We have Xiani who is dragonborn, has anger issues and is a morally grey character. She is a member of the Imperial family of Calvaera. She would burn down the realms to keep the ones close to her heart save and is an half elf.
There is Suzy, a healer from one of the twelve tribes of the Roîniscen-Desert. She trusts in friendship and good. There is Cadan who is a commander and in love with Obil. There is Aedion, a warlock who tries to keep the companions alive.
There is Va'Niah, the leader of the resistance who is someone who might surprise the reader with some arcs. There is the dwarf healer Galen who is in the resistance instead of being with his own kin in the dwarf realm.
There is the dwarf prince Cadeyrn who is witty and a friend of an elf. That elf is called Wymond and together with Cadeyrn, Obil and Xiani they are a group not to be crossed. Xiani and him are friends longer than one can count. A fun fact about Wymond is that he is based of Riven from Winx Club (I loved watching this as a child) and now Winx Fate.
As for tropes you may say it is high fantasy, friendship, found family, adventure, love, betrayal, treason, magic and more.
~ love, Leia
I am in so in awe about your worldbuilding! I'm going to take a wild guess and say Griffin and Obil are the queen's long lost children, but I do wonder what happened to the queen. Is she still on the run, or did Danaham get to her eventually? Or maybe it's something else entirely?
I love that Wymond is based on Riven (I used to love Winx Club too! Who was your favourite character?), because I would not at all be able to look at Riven and think "this guy, but make him an elf". I bet he's an interesting character to write!
I'm fresh out of WIPs that I haven't already talked about, so I'll share a story that I never finished instead!
It was a paranormal horror story titled Follow The Signs, about a girl who's three friends go missing in the woods around their sleepy little town Creekwood (fun fact: I wrote this entire thing just because I wanted to make a pun on the name Creekwood by calling it CreePwood lol). The girl, Layla, joins the search party alongside the twin brother of one of her missing friends, and promptly discovers that she can see omens of death that no one else can, and uses it to try and discover where her friends are and if they're alive or not (spoiler alert: only one of them survives lol). I got kind of stuck while trying to figure out what exactly was haunting Creekwood and the entire thing got derailed for 20 pages, so I just called it quits with the intention to start over. Which I never did. Oops.

19. If you could write an ideal fic, what would it include?
An ideal fic? Like a Platonic ideal? I don't think it exists. Or, conversely, many fics are ideal fics: did it make me happy to create it? Do I feel like I accomplished telling the story I wanted to? Did I receive outraged keysmash commentary from friends? A fic being "ideal" to me is the result of the process, not a specific ingredient.
9. what's your writing process like?
Fits and starts, lots of ideas tossed around. So many ideas that get a paragraph or a page in a blank document or a blurb in a discord channel that never go anywhere. Maybe I had a scene idea but no plot, maybe I just had a really strong image that would take too much time to build an a fic around, maybe it's just a line of dialogue. God, so many of these little wisps of ideas.
But once something is a proper WIP - let's say over a couple thousand words of actual text, not brain dump summary - I usually finish it, even if it takes a long time. Once I have a first draft, if I'm disciplined enough I'll let it sit for a bit so that I can edit with fresh eyes. If I hit roadblocks in writing or editing that fatigue me past the point of inspiration, I'll work on something else. Sometimes I'll start something completely new and random just to get the wheels moving without the baggage. This strategy comes back to gently bite me sometimes as the palate cleanser fic becomes a project in its own right 😂. Right now I have a couple "proper" WIPs I rotate between based on inspiration.
The last 20% of finishing a fic is always the hardest part, unless it's one of those weird ones that springs fully-formed from your head. Big thanks to those who have beta'd my work!!

I'm so glad that Heartstopper exists - it's so nice and cute and really is a great portrayal of young queer love and I just hope that we can have more stories about happy queer people. Stories about our struggle are great and important but so much queer media is focused on it that it's easy to just binge gay movies and shows and fall into a depressive hole.
But at the same time, for me personally as a gay millennial who grew up right on the cusp of this new wave of queer acceptance, it really hurts to watch something that could have been me if I were born like, five years later. I had teenage love stolen from me by a society that wanted me dead or at least miserable for being who I was and it really fucking sucks to be reminded that I'll never get that back. I'm nearly 30 and despite having had supportive parents and a great family I'm still playing catchup socially and romantically relative to my peers because I lost so much time as a teen and young adult. Even if I've been lucky enough to not be bashed or actively discriminated against, the fear of it has kept me from experiencing things that so many of my peers have and have helped isolate me in ways my cishet friends have never had to experience.
I hope that my generation is the last one that has to live with this kind of fear and isolation. Things like Heartstopper make me hopeful that that's the case. But I also hope that people like me, who had to live in this limbo, don't get forgotten either.

Disco Elysium is a wonderful and beautiful game with amazing writing and a haunting world and soundtrack and I really want to create a TTRPG system based off its approach to gameplay AND ALSO I have projected ALL of my problems and insecurities onto it and it has GLOMED onto me like a Futurama brainslug and I am so in love with Kim Kitsuragi and I might die from it oh my god

As of last night, I finished my Disco Elysium fic (or the first draft anyway). 180ish pages, 60kish words (accounting for the scripting stuff to the best of my ability). I’m taking a break from my first proper tip to tail readthrough to go through my dash, but I’m gonna finish it up and chunk it into chapters then try to find beta readers to help me clean it up and edit a bit. If any followers and/or mutuals want to help I would be very grateful!!!
For those curious, it’s a slowburn Harry X Kim casefic that looks to establish sort of a post-canon canon - I started it as a sort of self-indulgent attempt to establish a feasible way of them getting together but then it just kind of spiraled into a novella so.

I watched Star Trek: The Motion Picture on the plane and while it was a bizarre film that did a weird amount with a strange premise, the biggest value it has to Star Trek canon may very well be the fact that it’s basically just a Sprik fic made into a movie

There’s something so fucking tragic about the fact that Disco Elysium is supposed to be the one little window we get into the entire Elysium project, intended as an introduction to the world and not the end-all-be-all, that ends up being just entirely consumed by capitalistic greed and a disregard for art for art’s sake. It is only a part of this passion project that spans a decade or more and has a rich background, world and system created by a group of people just looking for a way to relate and be together and imagine a world that is somehow both better and worse than ours. And the only thing the system could do when being presented with this art is kill it for profit.
I really genuinely hope that the ZA/UM folks find another way to continue the world of Elysium because it really doesn’t deserve to die an untimely death at the hands of the demon of capital.

2. Anything that you'd like to write but feel like you're unable to?
yes. i have many, many ideas for super plotty multichapter fics, but most of them require the kind of worldbuilding that 1) would be better put into my actual original work and 2) is really difficult for me to think through without running out of energy to actually write the thing.
but, among those ideas are a super angsty & oc-filled prequel for six of crows ranging from around the time that kaz's parents would've met to that moment that kaz crawls out of the harbor, and the jordie lives fic that i started and never finished last summer. both were ideas that i really enjoy, but they're not things that had the energy for at the time (or now, or can see myself having in the near future.)
10. Top three favourite fic tropes.
a) i love any miscommunication or assumed-but-incorrect preconcieved ideas about how someone will react to something. i know i've written that a few times with wylan as a focus, but i'm really enjoying writing jesper's thought processes in my modern au at the moment. (why? psychology. and for angst.)
b) hurt/comfort but specifically in the "i am so concerned for you over a papercut" kind of way. it's just cute and kind of funny.
c) 'composed character' having A Moment, then turning around the next day and pretending that it never happened. (this trope always has me thinking back to once upon a time, and subsequently, i am once again considering writing pages and pages worth of regina mills character studies using this particular trope.)
(& the rest are under the cut, this was getting too long)
20. Do you work on a single project or many at the same time? How does that work for you?
i usually have a few going at once, but never of the same length or priority. my modern au is going constantly and has been since i started it, and i know i can't really start another multichapter thing until i complete that one.
but, i like little short stories, and i would go crazy trying to focus on the modern au all the time, so there are probably forty-ish oneshots that i've written since then.
it's working pretty well for me, so far. i like giving myself little rules so that i don't overwhelm myself into quitting my hobbies altogether, lol.
35. Thoughts on writing challenges/contests.
i have mixed feelings.
as a reader, i really like them. i like when there are common prompts and there tend to be lots of good trope-based writing in one day. i really, really like when authors who's work i tend to like are participating, and i get to read lots of stuff by them in a short amount of time (ex; 'whumptober' or 'ship week' stuff).
as a writer, i don't tend to participate other than being an interested friend to other writers. maybe one day i'll write in them, but i haven't yet, and i don't know when i would, if i did.
personally, i just don't like the pressure of that rigid of a time constraint and the idea of having a prompt i have to follow. occasionally, i'll participate in one of the days, or i'll take a prompt from a challenge after the day has already passed, but that's about as far as i've gone with it.
