About the Project

Love in the Time of Scurvy is a full-colour physical anthology of fanworks inspired by AMC’s The Terror (2018), to be released in the fall of 2021. The main theme of the project focuses on relationships between the characters, platonic or romantic, during the show’s canon era. The works will encompass illustrations, short comics, prose, and more. The goal of the project is to create a physical fanbook of at least 100 pages that will be publicly available for purchase and distribution. If the zine does not generate enough interest during the pre-order stage, it will be distributed digitally as a PDF.

Our main zine will be a physical book with a maximum T-rating. We will also have a bonus PDF featuring NSFW content (title TBD) which will be available as an add-on to different tiers.

Pre-orders for the zine are expected to go live in July 2021. Any profit we make (minus production, shipping costs, and contributor compensation) will go to charity. At this stage we are researching potential choices within environmental and climate change focused institutions working within the Arctic regions. If you have any suggestions as to what charity we could donate to, please do let us know.

General FAQ:

What is a zine? A zine is a printed & bound magazine or fanbook created by fans for fans. It’s full of art, prose, and other fanworks. Physical zines can come with assorted merchandise items available for purchase, such as charms or stickers.

What is the schedule for this project? Our detailed schedule can be found here.

What types of content are you looking for? We are looking for illustrations, short comics (1-4 pages), prose (between 1,500 and 2,500 words), and other fanworks. The latter can include, but are not limited to, knitting patterns, poetry, recipes, etc.

What do you mean, “relationships” ? With the title of the zine as guiding inspiration, we’re looking for any and all works that center on love between Terror characters. Friendship, romance, family, crushes, OT3s+ are all fair game.

Is this a canon-compliant zine? Will modern AUs be allowed? We are looking for works that take place during the Terror’s canon historical era, HOWEVER we are absolutely open to (and in fact encourage) canon-divergent AUs/rescue AUs/fix-its.

Will there be any sort of extras/additional merchandise? We are aiming to have a selection of different types of merchandise available alongside the zine, including (but hopefully not limited to) stickers, postcards, and keychains.

Can I contribute if I am under 18?

We will only be accepting submissions from creators who are 18 or older.

Can international creators participate, and will books be shipped internationally? Yes to both! We will have two distribution centres for the zine, one in the US and one in the UK, to cover most of the world for shipping at as low a cost as possible.

Can I contribute to Love in the Time of Scurvy anonymously or under a pseudonym? Yes! We are happy to accommodate people who would like to remain anonymous with the works they submit to the project.

Are traditional works okay? Yes! As long as you can scan them or take a photograph that will fit the technical specifications of the zine, you are welcome to submit traditional works.

How many contributor spots are you looking to fill? We don’t have a number set in stone yet, but we are looking at somewhere around 40-50 in total.

What is the selection criteria for contributors?

We will base our selection on the following factors:

Quality of provided sample works

Uniqueness of the proposed ideas for zine pieces

Proportion of each relationship within the zine

Balance between types of work (illustration/writing/other)

What does this mean? It means that first we will look at the skill level of the applicant, then at the scene/scenario(s) they are proposing, followed by how many similar ideas are being pitched, and whether they are for art or fic or other types of work. We expect that in many cases the decision will be based on the quality of provided samples and balancing relationships represented within the zine. If you have any questions regarding this, please let us know!

Will zine contributors be compensated? Yes, the goal is to provide all contributors with free copies of the zine, as well as merch. If our profits end up significantly lower than expected, contributors will be allowed to purchase at a discount instead of receiving the goods for free.

How will you be sending communications to creators? The primary point of contact will be via email, although we will be cross-posting all announcements to a contributor-specific Discord server.

What will be the final size/file specs for the physical zine? We are aiming for a B5 or A5 sized book. All art files must be delivered at 300dpi in CMYK, and submitted in either .jpeg or .psd file format. All artists will be provided with a template to work from. All prose works must be delivered in .txt, .docx, or .pdf file format. All text formatting for the zine will be handled by the zine mods to achieve uniform appearance throughout the book.

also feel free to ask questions, i love questions and they get me thinking even more in depth about the world and specific instances of characters and that is the entire POINT

i might have about. 25 fic more or less active at the moment? which sounds like a reasonable number but those are the ones i have an actual plot for as well as the will to get them out into the world

let’s put aside the ones i have actually posted on tumblr or ao3 (teen!daud, domestic zombie apocalypse, bondageverse, knife!corvo) in favor of those you have either no or little idea exist. begin:

I MEAN OBVIOUSLY I MADE FANFIC OF MY OWN FANFIC or as i call it parallel/companion fic, because at some point in the past a prompter inspired me and i was deep in the prince!daud fic at the time and i thought what if high chaos. what if void monster corvo? what if horrifying yet human creature of the depths!!! what if EVERYTHING was TERRIBLE and daud killed corvo as a last ditch and vain attempt to get his people out of burrows’ clutches, and it all went to shit from there??? also they’re bound by marriage contract and the vagaries of magical intention and daud becomes corvo’s life battery, in essence, which you can imagine leads to a very unhealthy relationship i think it’s not spoilering much to tell you it does NOT end well, and i’ll be writing it as a sort of foil to low chaos prince!daud

i have quite a few high chaos fics actually. high chaos is depressing to play but the story outcomes are DELICIOUS and the degrading world and character motivations are a lot of fun to play around in

weirdly enough another one of these high chaos fics is the naptime cuddles AU!!! i won’t lie it’s the one i am currently on and i want to talk about it to everyone so bad constantly. in short, corvo doesn’t kill daud and the whalers because he’s trying to get out and currently too fucked up to fight, and when he doesn’t manage to save emily despite his best efforts he comes back to daud for some kind of symbolic execution. meanwhile thomas convinced daud to take a goddamn nap with him there because daud, despite his paranoia, does sleep better with people around, and this is entirely an excuse for semi-platonic daudthomascorvo cuddles in bed followed by whaler puppypiles when the gang catches on that this is a thing they can do now I LOVE PUPPYPILE WHALERS I LOVE NAPS I LOVE REDEMPTION THROUGH THE POWER OF RESTORATIVE SLEEP please i’m so tired and i can’t actually fall asleep next to people let me live my dream vicariously additionally: this will be my contribution to the absolutely wonderful whaler vineyard of old fanon

there is also what i feel should be a classic and ISN’T though a couple of fics were written around the concept and one in particular is /chef kiss, and the concept is: high chaos corvo meets low chaos corvo!!!!! i made it a threesome with daud because no one can stop me and i fucking LOVE the idea of daud ending up capable of telling them apart through tiny details even when high chaos corvo, bastard that he is, tries to impersonate low chaos corvo, who is a bastard in much more subtle ways and would probably be better at impersonating hc!c than the other way around but finds it distasteful; also i added intense body horror because that’s how i roll and there are eventual magical CONSEQUENCES to hc!c being in the low chaos world and regularly in contact with what is essentially his narrative double when he doesn’t belong there, probably ends in a tragically bittersweet way, i’m not completely clear on it yet though i do have ideas

and oh man......... the time travel corvo fic.... the one where high chaos corvo ends up in his own seven-year-old body........... fuck i hashed out so much of the general worldbuilding for that one and ended up going way too far and imagining a sequel like i always do where corvo learns how to walk universes and gathers people he cares about from places where he can actually save them from their eventual tragic futures and the dissolution of their timelines once the outsider is ousted from the void and a new void avatar is made and SHENANIGANS YO!!! SHENANIGANS AND CAMPING!!!! SELF-CROSSOVERS!!!!!!! I COULD HAVE HIM MEET HIMSELF IF HE HADN’T TRAVELED BACK I’M CRYING I HAVE SO MANY EMOTIONS

the one where corvo is a fae child is probably a lil bit high chaos though it isn’t determined yet, and he has all of these instincts with regards to possessing and exchange and deals, and assumptions as to how other people must work approximately the same, and he is so wrong. then there’s the really creepy bad touch possible sequel that i won’t get into unless someone specifically asks because it’s a lil bit much really

oh MAN oh SHIT speaking of bad touch there’s another dead dove do not eat one where i grabbed an entire handful of granny rags’ apparent fucking around with magical arrays and rune creation and general spellery and threw it at corvo post-interregnum and he sees “ghosts” and doesn’t understand what the FUCK is going on and things go really badly for him, and one ghost, soon the only ghost, is daud, and corvo doesn’t know if he’s real, if he’s seeing things, if he’s NOT seeing things but daud is some kind of void demon, if he is and also having psychotic breaks he doesn’t remember because he ends up with some hellish bruises, but the real daud is actually still out there just hiding out and corvo will eventually meet up with him and real daud will meet fake daud and even more shit will happen

god, the demon!corvo AU gets pretty fucked up as well if i remember right; corvo is both some dude with a wife and kid and the demon that inhabits him, jess is his wife and the demon that inhabits her (to be clear, separate characters but both based on either jess or corvo oh my GOD what if i switched the demons that would be amazing but no, calm down, maybe for a short what-if scenario that will inevitably turn into its own thing), daud is the overseer with the really good exorcism record trying to get the demons to fuck off except he thinks there’s only one of them and the other takes him by surprise; cue daud being hunted by that demon, furious that daud shattered his favorite pupil, and some revelations about what exactly lives inside the abbey and also under it

on a somewhat lighter note, the one where corvo never comes to dunwall (i think his mom gets sick and he doesn’t win the blade verbena at sixteen?) is also where jess keeps losing her royal protectors to assassination attempts because the first one was decent and died protecting her and the second one was decent and had an accident and people start believing there’s a curse on the position or a curse on her, and she’s like okay so how do i make sure i don’t die now that no one is willing to become my protector since it’s pretty much a death sentence, and she arranges a meeting with the best assassin in the city and suggests an alliance -- protection and some commission overview, all secret, versus funding and housing -- in the form of a marriage and daud ends up agreeing; then later duke abele visits and corvo is among his personal guard and he gets to meet the empress, and the assassin, and there are ot3 shenanigans

oh my GOD also the kids in karnaca AU. obviously. fuck you may have seen the (dis)armingly charmed notefic but this would be them meeting as actual kids, in karnaca, just tiny babies, daud recently kidnapped and corvo doing his best to make this cool older kid into his friend and also maybe hiding him from the people who want to train him to do Illegal Things, and there are dumb childish arguments and daud goes on the run to avoid capture and there is an exchange of letters that at one point stops and corvo is Devastated and there is a REUNION and they are ADORABLE but also INCREDIBLY STUPID, AS IS RIGHT AND CORRECT, and i don’t know what happens later but it gives me warm fuzzies okay

then i have a NUMBER of oneshots that are more or less plotted out, like the one where jess has a kind of groundhog day because Heart reasons but over months and starts out not quite remembering what happened in past attempts and OF COURSE it ends with royal ot3; and there’s the one where Daud becomes the Outsider and is very temporally confused and OF COURSE it ends with corvodaud who do you take me for (including Very Perplexing arguments where daud doesn’t know at what point in this relationship’s development he is and corvo is angry or very patient depending on where he accidentally time travels to, and i make some assumptions about the non-linearity of the void avatar’s existence); and there’s the one where corvo catches the plague and gets through kingsparrow to get emily out then to people he trusts, ie the curnows and sam beechworth, then crawls away to die, but daud finds him and sighs and rolls up his sleeves and sends whalers to the Tower and emily thinks the Tower is haunted then, when it becomes very clear the Tower is not, demands one of these assassins teach her how to stab a bitch; AND THERE’S THE ONE WHERE CORVO AND JESS ARE GHOSTS AND DAUD IS A REAL ESTATE AGENT AND THE WHALERS ARE THE KIDS HE TRIED TO HELP OUT AS A SOCIAL WORKER and yes it’s ot3 and yes he buys the ghost house and ends up being filmed by the whalers to do cooking videos and fancy knife tricks and asmr because his voice is insanely soothing when he’s not being ornery; oh fuck and there’s the one where i wrote an unrequited corvodaud prompt and my brain grabbed it, smelled it, and decided that corvo very reluctantly falling for daud was necessary to the health of my feelings, and there is at least one (1) sleeping beauty coma while corvo yells at the outsider about the Heart; also there’s the one where in D2 billie was evasive about the old guy living with her on her boat and em finds daud rather than sokolov in jindosh’s basement and they have long, emotional discussions; and for the character building hell of it one that would span the outsider’s beginnings and growth and how the void tries to welcome him in

Fandom Questions

1. What was the first fandom you got involved in?

Involved as in ‘frantically read every book I could get my hands on, daydreamed about being part of that universe and wrote stories/made art inspired by the books, if not actual fanfiction’? Mm, probably The Chronicles of Narnia when I was six or seven. The next great obsession was The Silver Brumby when I went through my horse stage around age 12, and then Sweet Valley High when I was 15. Hahaha.

2. What is your latest fandom?

Marvel! I’m not into comics and I’m definitely not interested in consuming every last bit of canon material or memorising the variations of every universe, but I love (most of) the movies and Agents of SHIELD is pretty cool.

3. What is the best fandom you’ve ever been involved in?

Star Trek Voyager. No contest. I venture to suggest that the older fandoms, the ones that are all about defunct shows, are a hell of a lot more chilled. Maybe because we’ve come to terms with our shitty canon endings and learned that liking the ship you hate doesn’t make someone problematic, unlike some newer fandoms I could name (Yes I’m talking about you, Game of Thrones fans. What the fuck.)

4. Do you regret getting involved in any fandoms?

I’ve dipped a toe into one or two fandoms for shows or books I’ve really enjoyed and backed the fuck out when the vibe gets weird (oh hey, it’s GoT again), but nope. No regrets.

5. Which fandoms have you written fanfiction for?

All the Star Treks except TOS, and a Trek/MCU crossover. I’d like to write more for MCU someday. Plus I’ve written longhand entire notebooks full of teen romance shit that bore an uncanny similarity to SVH, and my first short story was a fantasy fic that featured a girl whose guardian was a wise talking lion who led her into mystical secret worlds, which is kind of familiar.

Reluctantly. The MCU movies are not something I ever thought I’d enjoy beyond a dull evening’s entertainment. I never expected to get attached to the characters. And yet.

9. What are the best things about your current fandom?

Voyager is my forever fandom and the only one where I’ve really interacted with other fans. The best things about it? In general, everyone is just cool, accepting, open and basically awesome. And talented. I love my Party Bus people.

10.  Is there a fandom you read fic from but don’t write in?

Sure. The 100, Veronica Mars and Agents of SHIELD are the ones I’d dip into more frequently. I really enjoy crossovers between Trek and BSG or the Stargate variants, too.

Actual story that was clearly fanfic? A farcical drunken romp told in the 24th century equivalent of email format called PADDemonium (see what I did there?)

22. Is there anything you regret writing?

Lol, a few things that should probably have never seen the light of day for various reasons, some of them leola related. But I’ve only deleted two fics that I can recall.

23. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.

Relieved. It’s a 30k AU Chakotay moral dilemma backstory that brings in DS9 characters, Section 31 and his longstanding history with AU Janeway. I did so much research for it (way back in the days before memory alpha and chakoteya.net) and I’m really proud of how I wound in canon stuff across series but changed a few key bits and pieces. Only problem is, it’s a sequel to ...

24. What fic do you desperately need to rewrite or edit?

... Pressure, which I can’t even read without cringing. My characterisation of Janeway, even Angry Maquis AU Janeway, is way over the top and there are moments that verge on Mills and Boon and give me first, second and third hand embarrassment. God, I’d love to rewrite it. Actually, that’s a lie. I want someone else to rewrite it so I can read it without covering my eyes and moaning.

25. What’s your most popular fanfic?

Desperate Measures, by about 70,000 light years, lol. Although Fragile Things beats it on bookmarks.

26. How do you come up with your fanfic titles?

You know what? A fair percentage of the time, I think of the title first and come up with a plot second. Aside from that, I prefer shorter, punchier titles that clearly tie into the story (Flight Risk, Speechless), though sometimes it’s song lyrics (Burn Our Horizons, your body like a searchlight) or a literary quote (Required to Bear, All the Devils are Here) or a turn of phrase from the story itself (The Prisons You Inhabit). Hey that was fun. Thanks for letting me pimp the shit out of my stories.

27. What do you hate more: Coming up with titles or writing summaries?

Ugh, it depends on the day. Summaries are harder, I think. I never want to give away too much of the plot, but there has to be enough there for people to know whether they’ll bother clicking. Funny story: I actually ran the stats on this a few months back. Here they are for your edification:

Fics with a one line plot summary = 54%

With two or three line plot summary = 18%

With a short snippet directly from the fic = 16%

With a snippet + a one line explanation = 3%

With a one line plot summary plus a line to date the fic (eg "set in season 3", “episode tag to Worst Case Scenario") or the fic prompt = 7%

And finally, a quote from something other than the fic = 2% (that's only 3 fics).

28. If someone were to draw a piece of fanart for your story, which story would it be and what would the picture be of?

Ooh. I’ll say the final scene in Explosive.

29. Do you have a beta reader? Why/Why not?

I used to regularly ask @jhelenoftrek​ and @littleobsessions90 to beta for me, and both of them are brilliant at it. Lately I’ve been posting without sending my stuff off for editing. This is partly because I’m impatient to get stuff out there, partly because I don’t have as much time to write/edit, and partly because I’m a little less focused on improving my writing and more on enjoying it for its own sake.

30. What inspires you to write?

Little bits of episode dialogue I haven’t noticed before, other people’s fanfiction, stray conversations, fic prompts, song lyrics, random headcanons, fever dreams, dares ...

31. What’s the nicest thing someone has ever said about your writing?

I’ve been really lucky with comments on my fic. The least helpful comment I’ve ever received was on one of my early 30k fics and all it said was “Did you have to take the name of the lord in vain?” Which is kind of funny. The nicest thing anyone’s ever said? I’m very partial to the feedback that starts “I don’t even like this pairing/genre/trope/show but you made me love it”, and particularly “I’ll read anything you write, I don’t care what it’s about.” But all comments are gold. The little heart button is cool too.

32. Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you?

I’m not someone who can tune out music I love, or leave it in the background to inspire me. If it’s on, I’m fully invested in it. I’m that annoying person in the car who flips radio stations every three seconds until I find something I like and then it’s on 11 and I’m singing along to it. I’m also really picky but extremely eclectic, although there are genres I can’t stand (anything with autotune makes me stabby). That said, sometimes I find a song that I can’t stop listening to for weeks and often that perfect combination of music and lyrics will inspire me to write a fic. For example, I just plotted out an entire J/C story because of this song.

33. Do you write oneshots, multi-chapter fics or huuuuuge epics?

All of the above. Although I’m not sure if my longest epic is huuuuuge or just huuuge.

34. What’s the word count on your longest fic?

101,467.

35. Do you write drabbles? If so, what do you normally write them about?

I have two drabble collections. One is all J/C, full of responses to random prompts and I add to it sporadically. The other is episode additions set on Kathryn Janeway’s birthday (May 20) and added to annually.

36. What’s your favourite genre to write?

Angst, definitely. Sometimes it’s smutty angst or fluffy angst or hurt/comfort angst, but often it’s just fucking unrelenting angst. And I’m okay with that.

37. First person or third person - what do you write in and why?

I did the stats on this once, too, haha. Pretty sure I came out fairly even on first and third person with a smattering of second person in there. I’m probably even-ish on present vs past tense, too. I make it a point to mix it up to avoid my writing getting stale or same-y. And sometimes a fic doesn’t really click for me until I try it in a different POV or tense or from a different character’s perspective.

38. Do you use established canon characters or do you create OCs?

I mostly write for canon characters - the fun is in all the different ways you can interpret and imagine them - but I’ve been known to throw in the odd OC, or focus on a character who only got a brief cameo appearance, or write about someone who only appears in beta canon, or who only rates a mention on screen.

39. What is your greatest strength as a writer?

Oh, wow. I’m not sure. I guess the thing I value most about my own writing is my willingness to try different styles, characters, pairings and so on. The thing I strive for most is characterisation that feels true, and I really love it when I get comments on that. Exploring a character in a way that rings true with a reader is the best thing ever.

40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing?

Overly long sentences and adverb abuse, haha. No, truthfully, there comes a point in most of my fics, particularly the longer ones, when I really just want to scrap it because in my heart I know it’s dreadful. Usually that passes once I slog through the ‘I don’t wanna’ stage because I’m a bloody-minded bitch, but sometimes fics do get left in the dust half-written. Honestly, though, they’re the ones that probably should stay there.

All of the authors above for various reasons, but also august because her writing is so spare and delicate and devastating, and runawaymetaphor because she writes the most delicious Janeway/Paris, and @seperis​ because I read In the Space of Seven Days literally 20 years ago and I still haven’t recovered, and I could be here all night raving on this topic but there are still many questions to get through.

44. What ship do you feel needs more attention?

Janeway x Paris. I’m so happy there’s been a little bit of a resurgence in J/P fics lately. Thanks, @curator-on-ao3​, you’re doing the lord’s work.

I’ll also take Janeway x Johnson content any day of the week.

45. What is your all time favourite fanfic?

What the hell? I can’t pick just one! Ugh!

... but okay, here’s the first one that came to mind when I tried to think about this: if you came this way by tree. I’m not sure I’d call it my favourite, but it’s one I revisit often. Ugh, there are so many other fics I’m thinking of now that I really want to list.

46. If someone was to read one of your fanfics, which fic would you recommend to them and why?

Oh, that’s hard. I should probably pick an angsty smutty J/C because that’s a fair proportion of what I write and it’s good to let a new reader know what they can expect. But honestly, I think the best fic I’ve written is The Uncharted Sea. (It’s safe for work. Maybe not for makeup.)

47. Archive Of Our Own, Fanfiction.net or Tumblr - where do you prefer to post and why?

The Archive, of course. Where else can I find ad-free hosting on a stunningly user-friendly interface with absolutely no moralising content restrictions and the world’s best tagging system? That Hugo award is well deserved.

Tumblr is good for headcanons and meta and gifsets and a few other formats that I’m less likely to post on AO3 because I’d feel like I was pissing off people who subscribe to me by giving them some random garbage.

I also have my own website, but I’m not really sure why. Sometimes I post fic there that doesn’t make it to tumblr or AO3.

48. Do you leave reviews when you read fanfiction? Why/Why not?

I try to. Honestly I do. I love it when I get reviews, so I figure paying it forward is the least I can do. I’m less scrupulous about leaving comments when I’m busy or reading on my phone.

49. Do you care if people comment/reblog your writing? Why/why not?

I mean, I love it when people reblog, but I certainly don’t expect it. @arcadia1995​ is amazing for reblogging stuff *blows kisses*

Nobody owes fanfic writers shit, but I feel like there’s a tacit agreement that if you like what you just read for free and you’re on a platform that makes it easy to do so, you leave a review or at least a kudos, because I’m not gonna lie, posting a fic you’ve worked super hard on and seeing it get very few kudos or comments is a bit deflating. I’m sure a lot of us have been there.

50. How did you get into reading and/or writing fanfiction?

During Voyager’s original run I was trawling the internet for Endgame spoilers (I don’t know why; I usually love surprises) and I guess I googled (or whatever the 2001 equivalent of googling was) something like “how does voyager get home” and somehow I stumbled across Revisionist History. At first I had no idea what I was reading - was this a lost story pitch that somehow got leaked? A professional novella commissioned by the showrunners?

Then I started following links and discovered yahoo groups and webrings and Trekiverse and fanfiction.net and all sorts of incredible things I’d never guessed at, including the now defunct ‘archipelago of angst’, a collection of Voyager writers who focused mainly on a darker Janeway than most of the other fic writers I was encountering, and I was hooked. So I wrote a few of my own pieces, and then I lost interest for 15 years. I’m still not sure how I got dragged back in.

51. Rant or Gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction! Go!

Honestly, in what other way can I indulge my obsessions, hone my skills and talk about it endlessly with like-minded people? Where else can I instantly find a plethora of fiction about the exact topic I feel like reading about on my mobile device and for free? Fanfiction is fucking amazing and I’m so glad it exists in my life.

Do you have anymore AU's you want to write? Is there any au you think you'd like to read but don't want to write yourself?

Oh heck yeah!! For both! I don’t think I’ve ever written a single canon-verse fic in my life? Like… maybe one, but I can’t even think of it right now if I have done it. (Granted, I’m counting both entirely new universes and canon-divergence fic as AUs, so maybe you’re using a different scale). But I most definitely have AUs I want to write still, even if they aren’t huge works and are still only like… barely 1K of severe sickfic or Trio’s Past Gets Revealed Early or something. Even if I don’t have an immediate fic planned and ready to write, I usually have something on the back burner in my mind, even if it’s something I’m unsure I’ll ever fully write. (I haven’t talked about the Modern Trio AU in quite a while now, but it legit haunts me daily and makes me laugh still.) Those ideas keep me going until a more immediate AU inspires me. So yes, always AUs! Forever!

(Unless you were hoping I’d name something specifically, in which case I just posted my most recent fic and besides one ongoing collab, I now don’t have a super concrete idea for my next fic, whoops. I’ve been haunted a bit by more Xanlow and Xander x Odin again for some reason, but it will probably pass and I’ll have to figure out something else unless I get a sudden prompt idea, since I’m a bit short on those all around atm. But we shall see.)

“Is there any au you think you’d like to read but don’t want to write yourself?” Every single one, lmao. Every fic I write is a very specific scenario I would like to see but because it only exists in my head and not already out there in the world somewhere, I’m the one who has to write it, haha. Don’t take that to mean writing isn’t fun though! It is and I love it a lot! But it’s always different when you read someone else’s fic and you get to be surprised, you know?

That said, because I was so general with that last answer, here are some specific ideas I’d want to read someone else write in no particular order and only because they spring to mind right now as I think on them: 

a Xander x Odin fic that reads legit because I’m still a sucker for rarepairs

a fic dealing with the Royals/Retainers and non-primary parent (or even non-parent but close aunt/uncle) bonding, 

a fic where Odin tells Ophelia (and others overhear) about Ylisse and his past through fairytales

(OT3) Fic dealing with Ophelia having the Brand and Nina/Forrest Do Not, as meaningfully or as inconsequential as the author deems (I can see it both ways)

another FE horror au tailored to my tastes (but nobody dies because I could never allow that, lmao)

more reincarnation AUs where the Trio doesn’t remember their past lives, but others do 

The Modern AU

The Modern AU B-Side that focuses on the parents instead of the Trio in another world where the Trio are treated like a legit missing person’s case and its suspenseful/a forever unsolved mystery (I have like 3 different scenarios for how this goes down already, lmao) until the Magic Reveal (maybe reveal in another fic, even though I technically already wrote that?)

Inuyasha-style FE Fic where instead of using the dried up well as a portal (or maybe still using it, I’m not picky) the Trio use bodies of water (pools, lakes, rivers, etc) and dive deep in order to get to Nohr/Valla/back home (bc water theme)

Every Fic Where The Trio MUST Reveal Their Identities/Get Reveal Not Of Their Own Volition, In Every Scenario Ever

AU where the Trio really do go with Corrin when Corrin first bails, even though it hurts real bad, and the aftermath of that decision (or even where the Trio are split because of it, whether willingly or not)

More fics that explore the connection human Anankos made with the Trio, whether that be magically or if it has dragon!Anankos acting weird/possessive/whatever

Fic that explores the full extent of having their appearances + new powers given

Marui:

do I like them: YES !! im honestly so glad that marui is a character in shokugeki - i greatly appreciate a character that mainly uses brains and intellect to come out on top in a typical scenario where brawn and talent is hugely praised. 

5 good qualities: 1) SMART !! so gosh darned smart im so proud of my son !! he absorbs knowledge and understands it and is able to apply it, which is the most incredible and difficult task, yet he executes it with perfection :”)) adding on, he’s the fuckin ace of his research club like what the heckin hell, people need to give him more credit for his skills2) acute awareness of what he lacks and actively works to compensate for it with his strengths3) actually the most relatable character. gets exhausted at everything like same lmaooo4) the friend that gives good advice that nobody follows, moans about yall “i toooldd yoouuuu soooo ...!!!”, but still helps yall out of whatever trouble caused :”))5) he’s good at understanding people’s needs and wants even if they don’t explicitly say it out loud and subtly provides them w help so the person doesn’t feel awkward uvu

Welcome to Bleach Rarepair Hell

To paraphrase:

Quark: But you know what's really frightening? If you read enough of it, you begin to like it. Garak: ... It's insidious. Quark: Just like your OTP.

So, I’ve recently approached several people individually about Rarepair Hell’s collection of materials. (Yes, Rarepair Hell is also a place; there’s a chat.) But, I figure I’ve gotten a fair number of new followers lately who don’t have the time to go trawling back through old material, and that means it’s time to go on yet another advertising drive! Now if you’re new, you might be wondering what this is all about.

Put simply, below is everything publicly released that I know of that I or someone in the chat with has put out for one of our rarepairs. These tend to be obscure or heavily underrepresented ships that, in general, we’ve fallen for.

Why not have a look? You might be surprised. Italics denote actual fics, whereas their lack denotes fan art or other documents

Kūkaku-Byakuya - KuuKuya / ”Sakura Fireworks”

KuuKuya is one of the rarest of rarepairs. Between FFN and AO3 there’s something like two fanfics and one drabble for them—the fics are almost a decade old, and the drabble involves teen Byakuya. Google reports exactly four pieces of fan art of them from some age long past, of which I’d show you one. When I took over the ship, I decided KuuKuya sounded better than ByaKuu or ByaKaku or whatever, and here we are. Most of these fics (mine, at least) take place in the canon-divergent continuity of Demons of the Sun and Moon, which is why certain details are the way they are (for example: Kūkaku has both arms again).

The KuuKuya Prototype - The small collection of paragraphs that started it all (that is to say, both KuuKuya and Rarepair Hell itself). This was originally a proof of concept, and like the post explains, doesn’t really fit into anything that came after.

KuuKuya Headcanons - A set of headcanons I put together after writing the three fics below, as well as some other material. This lays out just a few of the reasons I think the pair work so well together, as well as some cute scenarios.

Ratio Decidendi - The first proper KuuKuya fic. It’s rather short and to the point. (Original, unedited version here. Bless you, Anon, whoever you were.) @sequencefairy shortly summed it up with: “Byakuya takes Kuukaku to a function. It goes about as well as you would expect. This fic is funny and sweet and a great example of someone who gets character.”

Terra Nullius (NSFW) - The first proper piece of KuuKuya smut, following after the above. (Original, unedited version here.) This is where everything went to hell. @sequencefairy summed this up with “This one… hooooo, this one is not safe for work. I mean, I read it at work, but I would not recommend that other people do that. Again with the spot-on characterization, and I just really always love how clear and immediate the writing is in any of Dux’s fic, and this is no exception.” This fic has caused no end of wild happenings.

Para Bellum (NSFW) - A follow-up to the above. (Original, unedited version here.) @sequencefairy summed this up with “Now, I am super biased about this fic, because I got to watch it come together over the course of a few days, because Dux leaves me presents in our skype chat (it’s really the best thing ever - always leave your friends porn for them to find when they get home from work) and well, I mean, he’s absolutely nailed their dynamic, and I am stinking jealous of how well he captures Byakuya - I can literally hear the man speaking as I’m reading this fic. Also it’s a sparring session that is foreplay that leads to really excellent smut and that’s really all you need to know about it before reading.”

Interstice Gray - An intimate, hazy piece of fluff set some indeterminate time after the above.

Next to Every Great Man is... - Written as a birthday present, much in the mold of the above, highlighting their familiarity with and understanding of one another.

Cozy (@sequencefairy) - A lovely piece of winter-themed fluff, I actually received a hardcopy of this along with a Christmas card!

Untitled KuuKuya Piece (@sequencefairy) - Kūkaku and Byakuya don’t always see eye-to-eye and enjoy a charmed existence, but even when they disagree, you can sense the crackling heat!

Pinterest Board (@sequencefairy, NSFW) - If you ever wanted a mood board for these two, there’s already a pretty great one.

Discussion Chatlog (with @sequencefairy​, NSFW) - A rare exception to not posting chatlogs, this is mostly theorycrafting about KuuKuya, although IchiRuki, UraYoru, and TatsuIshi (see below) also appear.

Yoruichi-Ichigo-Rukia - YoruIchiRuki / ”Neapolitan Ice Cream”

YIR is an AU OT3 that happened purely by accident. The core component, Grounded!, was originally intended to be something of a one-shot sex-comedy whereby Ichigo and Rukia meet not (supposedly) because of the machinations of Kisuke and Aizen, but rather the whimsy of Yoruichi. It then turned out that everyone reading it fell for their interactions. Ichigo and Rukia have always had this cosmic air about them, but we discovered that Rukia and Yoruichi are oceanic, and Ichigo and Yoruichi are tectonic; together, they’re everything from incredibly sweet, to hilarious, to ridiculously sexy.

Grounded! - A Bleach AU Idea Revised - The latest and greatest revision of the concept for Grounded!, this is both a design document and also contains significant portions of the actual fic, which is still being written. It’ll orient you to the setting and happenings of the AU, and hopefully interest you in the interplay that gets spun out as a result!

Planet-Side Spin (@sequencefairy) - Written as a companion-piece and sort-of-prequel to the below, this largely focuses upon Ichigo some six or so months after the events of the above. (Original here.) The tagline sums it up well: “Ichigo misses them like breathing.”

Up All Night to the Sun - Occurring at the end of Ichigo’s trip, Yoruichi and Rukia miss him quite a lot too. (Original here.) Purely fluff.

We’re Dancin’ All Alone (YoruIchi, NSFW) - Yoruichi, Ichigo, and Rukia don’t always wind up together at the same time, but they manage as best they can in other settings. One of the odd things about adding a third partner is you more than quadruple the work (you go from one pair to three pairs and the triad!); one of the joys is finding that all of those combinations have their own interesting and interrelated ways of working.

Heaven in Hiding (@sequencefairy, NSFW) - A very recent entry, with a delightfully sultry atmosphere. 

Fan Art for Grounded! (@gabecebro) A wonderful birthday gift that really sums up the premise of Grounded! as a whole.

Tatsuki-Uryū - TatsuIshi / ”Double Dragon”

TatsuIshi began (for me) as a mashup of TatsuHime and IshiHime into TatsuHimeIshi, and then became its own thought experiment. The least explored of the three rarepairs, it nonetheless has its own particular charms.

Untitled TatsuIshi Piece (Semi-NSFW) - Originally put together to briefly postulate a reason they could even occur, this also shows off some of the fireworks the fly when you put the two of them together.

TatsuIshi Headcanons - Made after the above to further illustrate the point. Much like the KuuKuya Headcanons, this is meant to lay out an idea of how they might behave and interact, along with a few scenarios.

Yes, for the most part, all my Young-Do’s want to have the family that has been denied to him for so long.

That is a good question! Starter’s main story will be about Rachel’s desire to have a baby with both men juxtaposed against their desire not to have children and what it means to sacrifice for the person you love. Any more than that would be a spoiler ^^;

Yay, Young-Do coming back and taking care of Rachel and the situation! Doing well for just knowing for two weeks! Wonder if he will ever be able to acknowledge the baby as his? And can their unusual relationship be accepted if the public finds out?

He is doing such a good job and focusing so hard on this to show Rachel that he deserves to be some version of a spouse and father. It’s also good that Myung-Soo is supporting him during this and keeping any jealousy or fear he has in check. They will have to talk about it though, because that’s what having a healthy open relationship means--respectful communication.

So Young-Do is in an open relationship with both Myung-Soo and Rachel. They prefer to just be in a relationship with him, so that’s kind of closed on their end, but they accept he is with the other person as well. 

It really helped that Rachel and Myung-Soo were able to establish a friendship while he was gone, especially during the last five months, as they lived together during the scandal. It will be Young-Do who has to figure out how to fairly split his time between his two partners.

Haha, Yoon Yoo-Rae! I guess she is an entertainment reporter for YGN!!! She’s good! Questions so pointed, no wonder Young-Do immediately suspects Tan as her source! Makes me think of In-Ha/ Eun-Sang, and how the Silent Scream scenario was set up! So the story Young-Do is ‘giving’ them is that their companies are being bribed to do this story? Wow, bold to ask them to investigate their own company!

I need to keep my dopplegangers to a minimum ^^;; I think though it is safe to say that this crosses with Hiccups ^^;;;;

He is being bold but he’s going to push it until it happens. At the very least, they might investigate each other >.>

What fandom(s) do you read? Prison Break & Once Upon a Time mainly, but i used to read BtVS, Angel, 24, House MD

If you could request more of a certain type of fic, which would it be?  AU...everyone loves a bit of AU! And POV...I absolutely love watching a scene and writing the characters POV, so more people should do it!

What is your favorite all-time fic? Trick of the Light by @msgenevieve447 without doubt is my all time favourite fic.  I read it when it was first written, and i have loved it like a good book ever since <3 <3

Do you ever re-read fics? How about triple-read? Yes! Yes! and Yes!  Whe nyou find that connection with a certain fic, or author, you become addicted!

Do you prefer angst or fluff? Angst.  I love nothing more!

Do you prefer long fics or short fics? I love long fics!  I like to get lost in them <3

Name some incomplete fics that you wish were completed. Uh...confession time. I try not to read incomplete fics unless i know the author...

Talk about the ships that you read. So i read Michael/Sara (PB) and Captain Swan (OUAT).  Good, old fashioned angsty couples who, against the odds, end up together.  And when they don’t, i’ll write an AU lol

Do you read smut? Of course, i am an adult!  But i write a lot more ;)

What’s the most hard-core smut or kinky fic you’ve ever read (be honest) Well, i don’t know...none have really stayed in my mind for too long.  I prefer writing them and hearing other people’s reactions :)

Do you read AUs? Who doesn’t :D  It is what fuels our good ships, is it not?

List a few of your favorite AUs. I can’t!  They are all so, sooo good!  If you head over to prisonbreakfic.net i would suggest @msgenevieve447 (pen name msgenevieve) because her AU’s are my favs. 

What type of AUs are your favorites? Give a general description. So i really like AU’s were the characters are meeting for the first time.  A lot of my own AU’s start this way.  I also really like AU’s when the characters are basically non-epliogue compliant versions of their show characters - same names, same jobs, same vices, etc. but with a twist.  Basically, i like change, but not too much lol

What makes you give up on reading a fic? Well, lots of things.  Writers who do not take the time to describe and set the scene irk me.  I am a bit autistic, so i HAVE to know what is in every scene.  Like, read any one of my fics and you will see i spend 1000′s of words desribing the fibres of the carpet lol  I hate it  when an author is so focused on getting to their goal they neglect to let me know stuff my brain deems important.  It’s not enough that one character might give another some flowers, i want to know what the flowers look like, what colour they are, what they smell like, how a few petals might have the faintest sign of the colour fading, you know?  And grammar.  Bad grammar makes me sad.

What makes you pick up a fic, what makes it sound interesting? I love it when authors quote a tiny tidbit of their fic in the summary, and its so intriguing i need to know more!  Also, the pairing as a huge influence on what i read - if i am not a fan of the character in the show, i probably will not read it unless you ask me to.

Name a fic that made you cry (or that made you come close). I can’t say that many have to be honest, not that i can remember.  Maybe ten years ago, but this is my comeback to fandom, so i’m going to have to re-read everything!

Name a fic that made you laugh a lot. Again, i don’t recall.  I generally don’t read humor fics...

Do you have a fic recommendation page or master list? I don’t, but if you have one for CS or MS, link me!

How many fics do you think you’ve read before? Who can put a number on this?  Ten years ago, i could honestly say i had probably read the entirity of fics posted on LJ and PBF, but now there are so many more authors around, i’d better catch up!

What’s the weirdest fic you’ve ever read? Describe it. God, it was a BtVS fic where Giles and Xander were a couple and Giles was pregnant (?), and Spike and Buffy were a couple, but Spike was a dwarf (?!), and they were all on an adventure to Oz, to get a heart, brain, courage, etc. You get it.  But the author was off their mind crazy so it was just...weird.  I think it’s about that time i stopped offering to beta because i couldn’t handle the weirdness lol

Do you read crack!fic? Not really but i will if recommended

Has fluff ever made you cry? What about angst? Fluff generally doesn’t. I am far too blackened in RL to find fluffy stuff too emotional.  I love me a good bit of Angst though, and i have to really get invested to cry  Haven’t for a long time.

What’s the longest fic you’ve ever read?  Only a few spring to mind. Safe House by @msgenevieve447 and Fighting Back by Pemphredo, but lots of great authors write great series!

What’s your opinion on reading dubious consent or no consent? I’ll read it, but mainly out of curiosity for writing styles.  I find it fascinating to know how people interpret certain situations within the confines of the English language. 

Name a type of fic you’ll never ever read. I’ll never not read something, but i wmight give up on it pretty quickly if its a bit...much lol

Name a type of fic that you wish there was more of. CS/PB crossovers!  Because, why not. :p

Who are your favorite fanfiction author(s)? So forgive me that these are all PB writers, but i am still reading a lot of ONCE fics and getting to know the authors.  So, @msgenevieve447, @wrldpossibility Clair_de_lune, halfshellvenus, Bec/volatile, Foxriverinmate, happywriter, Lyaiso, CutePoison, Rosie_spleen...so many good writers, i cannot name you all!

When you find an author you like, do you follow them? Yes, normally after reading just ONE of their fics too!

How often do you read fanfiction? Everyday, normally in bed or on my lunch breaks!

Do people know that you read fanfiction? Only my husband in RL.

Do you leave reviews after reading fics? If so, what do they sound like? I like to because every good author deserves to know that they have succeeded.  We all thrive on the comments of others, so i like to tell them what i really enjoyed, what parts stuck out to me most and encourage them as much as i can :)

When you read a good fic, do you go to the author’s page? Of course.

Name a common type of fic that you cannot stand. I am pretty easy, i will read anything, but my absolute pet hate is when i read smut/pwp fanfics and the author tries to be so eloquent and fantastical with their language and then used the word “cock” or “cunt”. Just no.  Don’t ruin it! ��Just...find another way!  I don’t think i have ever used either of those words in any of my smut fics. lol

Name all the Work in Progress fics that you are currently reading. I’m not actually reading an WIP...got any?

Has a fic ever left you unable to fall asleep or think about anything else?  Yes.  Remember that Trick of the Light?  I recently sat up until 3 am reading it again which was fine, except i had work at 5am :D

Are you good about keeping up when reading Work in Progresses? Yes of course, but i am also the annoying person who notices glaring obvious plot descrepencies and continuity errors.

Name some of your favorite fic recommendations pages. I dont have any!

Name a fanfiction author that you’re scared to talk to because they’re so amazing.  So @msgenevieve447 was always my favourite author when i joined the PB fandom.  I practically stalked her on LJ and PBF and we never really got to chatting much because I was scared!  She had won fanfic awards!  And then recently, some wonderful ladies decided to ressurrect Prisonbreakfic.net and i was asked on board as an admin/graphics/fanart/limited coding skills.  That’s when, after nearly a decade, i grew a pair and actually starting talking to her! haha!  Turns out, we are just normal people doing normal people things with a common interest - go figure! :p

Have you ever written fanfiction or considered it? Pfft...have i ever written fanfic?! Of course!  I wrote it before i read it!

Name a fic that has a perfect ending. Everyone’s idea of a perfect ending is different ;)

Do you read OT3 fics commonly? Have you ever? Of course! However, I have to be in the mood.  I’m so possessive of my OTP’s, putting a third wheel in there is sometimes damning for my soul.  I have a thing for Michael/Sara/Linc sometimes.

Do you mainly read TV shows, movies, or books? Yeah, just TV shows.

Do you read fanfiction about Anime? Noooooo

If you could imagine the perfect fic, what would it be like? My perfect fic would be AU, but there are so many possible scenarios running through my head i couldn’t pin down just one!  They would forever be Michael/Sara though, a happy/non-happy ending (lots of angst!) and a good fight!  I love me a good fight! 

If you had to introduce someone to fanfiction with a few fics, which would you suggest? Well, i would direct people straight to PBF if they have never seen it before.  There are so many great authors around there, and then to AO3, because there are literally thousands and thousands of results for the words “captain swan” :D

Have you ever read a fic containing character death? Yes of course.  Character death/suicide isn’t something i shy from.  We have all been there and as authors, we can take our characters there too.  It’s about how you  write it that makes it worth reading.
