Mucho se ha escrito y se referenciará sobre “Buffy, la cazavampiros“ (”Buffy, The Vampire Slayer”, 1997-2003), una de las series más icónicas y amadas para los adolescentes de los noventa. Basándose en la película homónima estrenada apena cinco años antes y con Kristy Swanson en el rol principal (busca el dato en Wikipedia y te asombrará la calidad del elenco), el guionista Joss Wheedon llevó la idea al formato televisivo, la cual fue producida por 20th Century Fox Television y emitida por The CW y UPN a lo largo de siete temporadas, 144 capítulos y un spinoff llamado “Angel” (1999-2004). El trabajo de Whedon, una figura involucrada en la monumental película de Mervel “The Avengers” (2012), pero también en denuncias de abuso laboral de algunos de los actores con los que trabajó, fue celebrado por creadores como Rusell T. Davies (showrunner de “Dr. Who”, otro gran ejemplo de televisión fantástica) y ha influenciado en series como “Dead Like Me” (2003-2004), “Joan of Arcadia” (2003-2005), “Tru Calling” (2003-2005), “Veronica Mars“ (2004-2007) o “Teen Wolf“ (2011-2017).

En líneas generales, la historia va así: en cada generación surge alguien con la aptitud para reconocer y matar vampiros. La nueva cazadora se llama Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) y es una adolescente que se ve obligada a mudarse de Los Ángeles a Sunnydale, al sur de California debido a su “cualidad”. Ni bien llega se encuentra con algunos amigos nuevos, ciertos secretos esbozados en la biblioteca escolar y un chico muerto con dos heridas circulares en el cuello. Punto inicial para una historia que aún continúa generando apasionados adeptos.

Willow Rosenberg (Alyson Hannigan) es una de las primeras y mejores amigas de Buffy. Aunque en un principio aparece como una chica sencilla, humilde e inteligente, muy afecta a la tecnología, siempre estuvo lista para combatir las injusticias de la vida y para acompañar a la protagonista en sus batallas sobrenaturales. Su destino en la serie es convertirse en una bruja poderosísima y e incluso temible, llegando a zonas de oscuridad.

Otro cambio interesante, claro, se da en el campo de su sexualidad: en los primeros capítulos se la ve enamorada de Xander Harris (Nicholas Brendon), aunque en temporadas más tarde formará, ya en el ámbito universitario una relación con Tara Maclay (Amber Benson), primer paso en la aceptación de su bisexualidad.
