Who, in your opinion, would make the best next captain of the leafs? (this is assuming JT is.... idk Not There Anymore for whatever reason) Importantly, this does not have to be the same person you think would be most likely to actually named the next captain. ok i have 3 answers for this actually

answer 1: morgan. i mean, spiritual heart, power play quarterback (water elemental pivot point of a hockey team)(just another way of saying "spiritual heart" again), and it would be Really Great if The Captain of Arguably-Canada's-Hockey-Team and the Most Decorated Figure Skater Ever were married. like thats just sick as hell. just generally morgan seems a great fit

answer 2: mitch. yes. genuinely

answer 3: now i KNOW you said NOT who i think is the most likely but this is my Most Likely answer anyway: fraser minten. "hey cody," you might say, "why is a rookie with 3 total games of nhl experience and a penalty his only scoresheet marker your pick for Next Leafs Captain?" well it's because john tavares will play until he's 40 and he will retire a leaf. like at that point who are you gonna name captain: 34 year old auston and his aching hips who gets 40 tap-ins a year and might not have long left or freshly-27 fraser minten who's been here forever and has had Captaincy Material on his scouting report since he was sixteen. hm

wait hold on my hot takes instinct is winning against my shutting the fuck up better judgment. domi did well with matthews last night because he plays like a discount mitch. and he should play with him until mitch is back. bertuzzi is Decent on that line (good players do good things etc) but ideally you want like mcmann or smthg so auston doesn't have to be as high in the play bc he's defensively compensating for domi

#major advantage of 1634 is they're both defensively responsible (so ironically neither has to work as hard on defence) #and they can afford to have a less defensively responsible offensive third #but without mitch auston has to do a little more caring about that AND he doesn't have his puck carrier #willy is good enough that you can swap them but with the compensation it means they both become dual threat #instead of the playmaker sniper dichotomy #and this diminishes each of their abilities a little bit #still a very effective line but not the most efficient #(and in a playoff situation it's probably the pairing id use w 34 instead of domi)(assuming no mitch) #but rn we're not exactly standings mobile over here. we're trying to get auston 70
