So I've been listening to audio of the Leverage commentaries and something John Rogers said on at least two different commentaries is (roughly) "Parker doesn't want to be normal she just wants to be normal enough for her friends."

Well the phrasing isn't great (what is normal?) I really like the sentiment I know he's trying to say. Parker doesn't want to be normal. She doesn't care what other people think about her. But since she finally has people that she cares about she wants to learn more about having relationships and friendships. So it's not about being normal but about being willing to make connections and open herself up to other people.

Parker's character arc is great because it's about her choosing to open herself up in a way that benefits herself and not just the people around her. She's a happier, more fulfilled person because of the decisions she makes to help people and to let other people in emotionally. Her character arc isn't about 'fixing' her by making her less 'quirky'. She doesn't need to be less of herself in order to grow as a person and I think that's awesome.

Hardison and ADHD

So I like the headcanon that Alec Hardison has ADHD but I’ve only ever really seen people basing this on his line in the first episode about having ‘focus issues’ so I just wanted to talk a little bit about some of his canon characteristics that I think support the idea of Hardison having ADHD.

(Disclaimer: I am by no means an expert on ADHD. The signs and symptoms used here are based my general knowledge of ADHD from previous research and from reading about other people’s experiences. Please correct me if I got something wrong.)

He talks a lot. And he often rambles, including information that isn't necessarily relevant to the conversation and going on tangents until someone redirects him. Sometimes he infodumps mostly about technology or hacking.

Remember “The Mile High Job” where he stays up all night playing a video game and forgets they had a con planned for that day? A con he presumably helped plan and debrief for? Sounds like hyperfocus. And even when he was in the middle of a mission he still got distracted talking about the game? He was still hyperfixated on the game. And completely forgetting about the scheduled con until he heard talking over the earbuds sound like some classic ADHD forgetfulness.

Also this is a little thing but there have been several times that Hardison has put a ridiculous amount of time into a detail of a con that probably wasn’t that important ore even necessary. Like in “The Three Strikes Job” when he said he spent 13 hours on the commercial for Eliot’s cover. He probably didn’t need that part of his backstory and that is a lot of time to spend on a detail that probably didnt’ need to be included. Which to me seems like it could reflect poor time management skills. Also possibly hyperfocus. It’s not uncommon for people with ADHD to hyperfocus on a detail of a project and sometimes spend an disproportionate amount of time on it.

We also know that Hardison is (like most of the team) an adrenaline junkie. Obviously you can be an adrenaline junkie without adhd but being a thrill seeker is also a common sign of ADHD.

This list is probably not exhaustive - it’s just the things I can think of right now- but it does show that Hardison having ADHD is consistent with the canon portrayal of his character.

TL;DR: Alec Hardison has canon characteristics that are consistent with someone who has ADHD. He rambles, once hyperfocused on a video game, spends a lot of time on unnecessary details and is an adrenaline junkie.

“Take a deep breath, it should help slow your heart rate.” + Buck x Reader ❤️ Maybe they’re having a panic attack due to having a stressful day

Work was dreadful.

You had too much on your plate. You had a hundred things to do and only so many hours a day in which to do them. It didn’t help that you were badly understaffed, too, so you were doing more than twice the work you usually did. It had been going on for far too long already, there was no end in sight, and you were completely burnt out.

The tears of frustration welled up as you made the trip over to Buck’s place for the evening, and they spilled over as you climbed the stairs to his apartment. Your chest heaved with the exertion and your growing anxiety and you paused outside Buck’s door, your keys halfway to the lock, considering heading right back downstairs so you didn’t have to expose Buck to the panic attack you could already feel bearing down on you.

Before you could so much as convince yourself to turn around, you heard the deadbolt in the door click and watched the door swing inward, spilling a sliver of light into the hallway before Buck appeared in the newly-created space, blocking it out once again. He smiled brightly, but his expression quickly turned concerned as he noticed the tears in your eyes and the subtle trembling you’d only just begun to feel in your body.

“Hey, c’mere,” he said softly, reaching for your hand and gently guiding you inside, shutting out the rest of the world behind you. “What’s going on?”

You allowed yourself to be pulled into his embrace. The warmth and comfort of his arms around you shattered what little hold you had left on your emotions and you broke down, sobbing into his chest, streaking his shirt with tears as you succumbed to the throes of a full-blown panic attack. Your breathing faltered and you made a strangled gasping noise that set Buck on high alert.

“Okay, it’s okay, I’ve got you,” he reassured you, pulling away just enough that he could start leading you toward the couch without the two of you tripping over one another. You shuffled along blindly, clinging to Buck desperately, not wanting to lose hold, to be left alone. He seemed to understand if the way he kept a protective arm around your shoulders was any indication.

You inhaled sharply when your knee bumped the couch, not even having noticed where you were in your panic. You were grateful for its presence, though, as your legs gave out and you sank heavily into the cushions. Your chest ached fiercely as you fought for every short, inadequate breath and you clutched at your sweater like loosening it might make the act of trying to breathe a little easier in some way.

“Look at me, hey, it’s okay, I’m right here, I’ve got you.”

Buck’s words barely penetrated the thick fog of anxiety swirling around you, but his bright blue eyes stood out in the lamplight, giving you something to hold onto.

“C-can’t b-breathe,” you gasped.

“I know, sweetheart, I know,” Buck said with a nod, his voice soft but firm as he sank down beside you and reached up to gently clasp your shoulders. “Just keep looking at me, alright? You’re having a panic attack, but I’ve got you. We’ll get you through this. Just try to focus on me, on my voice, okay? Focus and try to slow down a little.”

It was almost impossible, but you tried your best. You closed your eyes and listened to him murmur soft reassurances, coaxing you to ground yourself and come down from the adrenaline a bit. You couldn’t see what he was doing, choosing to stare into the inky blackness behind your eyelids instead as you tried to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth the way you always did when you were panicking, but you could feel his touch on your body. His one hand stayed on your shoulder, anchoring you, as his other slipped down to your wrist. His fingers wrapped around it and you could feel your pulse reverberating against his touch, racing and pounding. It was no wonder your chest felt tight considering what your heart was doing.

“Good, you’re so good,” Buck said encouragingly as he watched your inhalations begin to deepen a little as the seconds ticked by. “Keep it up, just like that.”

A minute went by, then two, then three. Eventually, your muscles loosened up a little and you felt the knot in your chest start to give way, allowing you to gain some control over your breathing. You opened your eyes in time to see Buck smile encouragingly as he watched you relax just a bit.

“Okay, good, keep going,” he coaxed. “Take a deep breath, it should help slow your heart rate. You’ll be feeling better in no time.”

You watched him as he took a slow, deep, exaggerated breath of his own for you to follow. He never once let go of your wrist as you slowly managed to expand your lungs more and more. You could feel your pulse slowing down and beating less forcefully beneath his fingers as you finally managed to draw in enough oxygen to calm the anxious tide within.

You nodded, sagging back against the couch cushions and feeling heat fill your cheeks. You hated breaking down in front of anyone, even Buck, and the crash in the aftermath of the adrenaline was a breeding ground for self-deprecating thoughts and feelings of inadequacy. Buck understood, though, both from his own experience with panic attacks and from watching you go through them, and he wasn’t going to let you go there.

“Come here,” Buck said softly, releasing your wrist at long last and wrapping his fingers around your hand instead, tugging you gently toward himself.

You relented easily, too tired to fight, and curled into his chest as he wrapped his arms around you. This time, the embrace was less a lifeline and more a comfort, like the kiss of warm water on your skin after a chilly day, or the caress of sunshine on your face after a night of wind and rain. Buck was everything that was right in the world. He was warmth, he was salvation, he was love, he was home.

More than anything, Buck was your heart and soul, and as you pressed your face into his neck, inhaling his warm, comforting scent, you thanked the fates that had brought the two of you together.

Something in which reader gets hurt or sick but it’s kind of touch and go for a bit. So once’s she’s home recovering she wakes up from a nap to find Eddie stething her to reassure himself that she really was still okay while she slept. Maybe with the heartbeat prompt #10...?

It was late at night as you drove home, a blinding rain making the visibility extremely poor. The only saving grace was that the road you were on was practically deserted - it was the only reason you didn’t stop and wait it out. Creeping ahead slowly, you craned your head over the steering wheel to make sure nothing was obscuring the road directly ahead of you as you drove.

Suddenly, you were surrounded by a tremendous noise. Creaking metal and shattering glass echoed around you, cutting off the sound of your own screams as the car rolled down the embankment, throwing you around like a ragdoll even though you were strapped in. It felt like it went on forever, the dizzying spin, but soon things fell silent again. You cried out in agony as you tried to move, rain pelting your skin through the broken windshield, the steering column pressing heavily into your chest.

You tossed and turned as the nightmare raged on, the visuals in your head as vivid as the incident itself had been. Your chest felt tight, your breathing a little too fast, too shallow, and you woke up with a start. Though the flashbacks faded into the distance as consciousness returned, the pressure on your chest lightened but did not disappear all together. Your doctor had warned you that you might feel some tightness as you healed in the wake of your fractured ribs and bruised tissues, but the pressure felt different than what you’d come to know over the course of the two weeks you’d spent in the hospital.

Slowly opening your eyes, you were startled to find Eddie hovering over you. You blinked away the blurry cast to your vision and focused your gaze on him, realizing he had his stethoscope on and was pressing it to your chest. His touch was gentle, but the weight of his hand was no doubt what had pulled you out of your slumber.

“What’re you doing?” You mumbled sleepily.

“Shh, I’m trying to listen to your heart,” he explained softly.

You hummed quietly and relaxed again at his words, unfazed. You were used to being poked, prodded, and examined after your stay in the hospital, and you trusted Eddie. If he wanted to listen to your heart, you weren’t going to protest.

Eddie carefully moved the stethoscope every once in a while, resting it back against your skin with the utmost care so as not to aggravate the bruising on your chest. You dozed a little as he listened closely, waking again only when you finally felt him pull away to set the stethoscope aside. You tipped your head to the side a little, regarding him through half-lidded eyes, a bit fuzzy around the edges from the painkillers.

“Am I gonna make it?” You asked teasingly.

Eddie chuckled softly, but even in your haze you didn’t miss the flicker of hurt in his eyes. You reached out, groping sightlessly for his hand as he met your gaze. He slipped his hand into your grip and you squeezed his fingers clumsily, bringing his hand up to brush a kiss across his knuckles.

“I’m sorry,” you whispered.

Eddie shook his head, shifting closer so he could press a kiss to your forehead.

“You have nothing to apologize for,” he assured you. “I’m just glad you’re finally out of the woods. I don’t know what I would’ve done without you.”

You tipped your head to nuzzle into his neck, inhaling the familiar, comforting scent of his cologne. You shifted the hand you had gripping his, exposing your wrist, wordlessly encouraging him to wrap his fingers around it like you knew was his wont to do when he needed reassurance. As you’d predicted, Eddie’s fingertips found your pulse point easily. You could feel your pulse reverberating against his touch.

“I’m okay,” you promised softly. “I’m going to heal up just fine, and until I do, you can do whatever you want to do to know that I’m just fine.”

Eddie smiled at your words, shifting carefully so he could wrap an arm around you without ever letting go of your wrist. You winced a little as your broken ribs ached fiercely in protest, but quickly settled comfortably into his embrace.

You laid ensconced in Eddie’s warmth, strength, and comfort for a while, your eyes fluttering closed as he continued to feel your pulse. It slowed over time as you grew sleepier and more relaxed, and Eddie murmured soft encouragements for you to get some more rest before dinner. The pain medication was admittedly drawing you closer and closer to sleep with every passing moment and eventually you felt yourself succumbing to it.

“I love you,” you murmured softly as your breathing evened out and you dozed off.

“I love you, too, sweetheart.”

You know what got my goat more than anything in that episode?

If Eddie was acting as a best friend when he made the decision to name Buck Christopher’s legal guardian if something were to happen to him, it should have been an easy conversation to have. Like “hey, so, I’m realizing that I could die one day in this line of work, and my kid needs to be taken care of. You’re his favorite person besides me in this world and I would love it if you could be that for him. Is that cool?”

If Eddie was pining after Buck already, perhaps even unconsciously, that would have made it a whole other story. The unrequited love. Eddie is feeling things that he can’t confront, maybe doesn’t even really understand, and he doesn’t know how to talk to Buck because on the off chance that Buck shows any sign of not understanding, not feeling the same way, he’ll shatter. Eddie can’t have the conversation because he wants to have it as a lover, a partner, and he doesn’t know if he can ever have that with Buck.

I always, always thought Buck would be the one pining first.

I never expected it to be Eddie.

“Are you sure...?” Ez asks again whilst you're taking off the helmet with some difficulties, because you drunk too much. More than usual.

You nod very convinced, while he turns his gaze from the building where Coco lives, to you. He shrugs his shoulders, taking the helmet to hang it in the handlebar. Ez turns off the motorbike when you're inside the hall, going upstairs to the flat you know by heart. The mexican and you met like ten years ago, being in inseparable since then but some months ago you started to feel something else, something bigger, for him. You think it's happened in a Mayan party, when you found yourself laying on his lap with both arms around his neck and his wrapping your body, with some fingers traveling over a side of your left thigh so kindly that melted you, your beliefs and your whole soul.

Your knuckles hit the main door, more loudly than you could think being partially deaf because of the music that was playing in the pub. You wait for some seconds till you see some light under the door. Coco opens it, rubbing his eyes kinda sleepy without wearing a shirt. You gawk at the tattoos on his chest, until he slaps your forehead with his fingers.

“Yo! Mami, it's five am, 'foc' is wro—”.

Before you let him to finish the sentence, your lips collides with his placing both arms on his neck. The kiss it's weird and a little uncomfortable, but he tastes like tequila and that's really good. Pulling him away looking at his face you know it wasn't a good idea. He's bewildered staring at you with pursed lips as you kiss them. Raising your right forefinger, trying to say something, you decide to turn over your sneakers to run away downstairs even if he's calling you, telling you to wait for him. You don't look back, down the avenue, while your legs are burning because of the fast steps going to your house.

You growl squeezing in pain with the sheets tangled in your almost naked body. The sun is on, illuminating your room in a unpleasant way. Hiding your head with the pillow, you snort heavy because of the headache hitting you thanks to the hangover. You know that what happened last night it wasn't a dream, nor a nightmare. Anyway, you confirm that fact when, after palming the bed, you find your phone. There are thirty-six missed calls and seventeen text from Coco. Turning off the wifi to avoid the double blue check, so he can't know you read them, you open the conversation.

The last message makes jump the pillow over your head to the floor. The door is almost closed and you can hear the tv on with some action movie on it. You sob because of the pain lashing your head and the shame is consuming you. Getting out of the bed, praying it's Angel who is there, you grab a shirt wearing it, sticking your head out the frame. You sob again when you find Coco staring at you, closing the door as if he didn't see you. Dragging your back down through it, you sit on the floor with your knees against your chest being surrounded by your arms.

The man pushes the door a little, but you close it again. Hearing him sighing, you shake your head.

“We have to talk”.

“Get outta' ma' house, Coco”. You blub without tears filling your eyes, just making the sound.

“That's all? You come to mine, kiss me and you're not gonna say anythen'?”

No words. You can't answer him. You're regretting what you did 'cause you thought he could feel something too. But, by the way he didn't move, nor kissed you back. The next thing you can hear is the main door being closed loud with a dry hit. You're fucked. You fucked up ten years of relationship in three seconds.

Two days passed since he left your house and you wrote Taza to ask him to change your turn at the car scrapping, so you don't have to work with Coco. And even you think that the talk it's something that will not happen, you're very, very, very wrong.

After finish your turn, when the moon is almost on top of the sky, you go out of the office downstairs seeing the mexican sitting on your bike and smoking a cigar with a no-friends-face. He's kinda angry, upset and tired of being running behind you the last days, till he finally get the perfect opportunity. You're wearing your helmet, giving him the silent treatment and checking your pocket looking for your keys.

“I got them”. He says raising his free hand, with them on his palm. “And 'am not gonna give you, if you don' talk to me”.

“There's a beautiful night with a lot of stars”. You play fool, actually talking to him as he wants.

“Why you kissed me, ah?”

“I was drunk”.

“Yea', but I know you drunk and you didn' try before”.

“For god's sake, Coco, forget it. It was just a fuckin' kiss”.

“No, it wasn't”. He says shaking his head and having a smoke. “You told me you love me”.

“I didn'”.

“Yea', when I was helping you to get outta your dress”.

You frown, gasping and trying to say something else. But you're getting so nervous that you can fall down unconscious.

“'Course I love you, you're ma' best friend, idiot”.

“Not in tha' way, shithead”.

“Wha' you wanna hear, uh?” You ask crossing your arms and curling a leg. “Yea', 'am fuckin' in love with you, but who cares? You're not. Easy. I get it. Get outta 'fuck of my bike. I'm tired and I wanna go home to keep rolling in my misery”. Taking away your keys and pushing him, you sit on.

“Who the fuc' said I'm not? 'Cause I didn'”.

Turning your head at him in slow motion, you wrinkle your nose, shaking your head for a second as if you didn't hear what you actually heard.

“'Don' know. Maybe your rude texts? The fuck you did? The fuck is wrong with you? Why you kiss me?”

“I though' you lost a bet with the fuckin' boy scout”.

“What da'... Why I... Are you fuckin' stupid?”

“No, you are! You're the one who's giving me the back!”

You sigh taking off the helmet to put it in the handle bar, as you do with your leather gloves. You're gaze is down, staring at the keys in the lock, unable to look at him. You didn't act as you should and now you don't know what is worse.

“I'm sorre'”. You mutter looking him sideways.

“Yea', you better did, bech'. 'Cause I didn' fuc' anyone for one year waitin' you and you kissed me in a weak moment”.

“Jesus Christ, Johnny!” You start to laugh loudly with your hands on your lap, licking your lips. “Sweet Jesus Christ... You're a fuckin' moron, I swear to god”.

“Move your fuckin' pretty ass to ma' house, mami. Dare to do agai' what you did last night”.

“I accept that bet, Coconut”.

Okay, this is a novel. Go with me.

I'm not saying anyone's interpretation of canon is wrong, but I've seen some people interpreting the graveyard scene as Buck still trying to be something he's not in order to earn/maintain the love of the people he cares about and I just... don't agree with that at all. Where Buck is now is an in-between state. He's not the same person he was before the lightning strike, but he's also not the person he's meant to be after the lightning strike either. Not yet. So he's tucked in this Magical and Confusing World of Almost, where he's almost figured out all the pieces to the puzzle, and he almost knows who he is outside of people's expectations, and he's almost connected the plethora of dots drawn between himself and Eddie, but he's not there yet.

So when Buck says, "I feel like I have to be the same old Buck, mostly for everyone else," that's not him saying he thinks he won't be loved if he's not the same old Buck. That's him saying he's stuck as the same old Buck because he has no idea who to be and, where he is now, no one else can tell him who to be, just like when he asked Hen if she was "at ease" in 6x02. He is constantly looking for answers that nobody but himself can find or give. But he doesn't want anyone to worry in the interim, especially not when everyone else he knows already regards his death with far more depth and trauma than he himself regards it with. So he remains "the same old Buck." This idea also ties into his conversation with Natalia over lunch.

Buck told Eddie that he, in some way, felt like Natalia saw more in him than he saw in himself, but I'm so intrigued by that piece of dialogue, mainly because we didn't actually see the entirety of their conversation. We saw Natalia's fascination and Buck's intrigue (and, dare I say, discomfort!) by her fascination, but we didn't actually see anything beyond Buck beginning to tell her about his coma dream. So what is it that she sees? I think she sees exactly what he said to Eddie—that he got away with something he shouldn't have.

Natalia treats him like an anomaly because he is. No one else in Buck's life treats him like that.

They know him. They love him. They grieved for him. And when he came back to life and came out of the coma, they celebrated him and his return. But. They don't treat Buck dying and coming back as the anomaly, the rarity that it is. And I think this is a perfect example of a situation in which Buck is struggling to find the happy middle. His family treats his death with all the pain and gravitas inherent to literally seeing someone you love die and hang limply, helplessly, in the air, whereas Natalia treats his death with too much glee, too much fascination. And as much as he loves his family, and as much as he's intrigued by Natalia, Buck doesn't need either of those things.

What Buck needs is for someone to acknowledge both aspects of his death: that it was scary and sad and traumatizing, yes, but also that it was something out of a film. Something that shouldn't exist but did. And I think once Buck finds that? Once he looks within himself and allows both of those realities to coexist and inform his processing and who he is, then he will be on his way to finding the peace he's so desperately craving. But until then, he'll struggle with his voice, with Natalia's voice, with the voices of everyone he loves all saying different things on completely different ends of the same spectrum. Which is hard in ordinary circumstances, but especially in this one, in which matters of life or death are explicitly in play.

Buck is loved by his family. He knows he's loved by his family and, overbearing as they are/can be, he recognizes their love and loves them for it in turn. But in 6x11, Buck finally came to a place where Being Buck was enough for him. Now he has to redefine what that means to him. Which doesn't mean that the current version of himself that he's playing pretend at is wrong or lesser, only that this current version is ill-fitting now and he's struggling to find an identity that's the "right size," especially with several different voices (his own included) telling him how he should feel and respond to life-altering trauma.

I'm not the costume meta person here, that title belongs to the lovely Kym, but I'm assuming Buck's internal struggle also calls back to the wardrobe choices made in 5x14 too. The choice to have Eddie and Buck in the same/similar clothes they wore during their outing to the equestrian center only illuminates to me what we already knew: that Buck's 6B arc is a speed-run through Eddie's 5B arc, in that they both dealt with the nuanced complexities of similar traumas. Eddie dealt with horrendous survivor's guilt following the loss of his team, and Buck, too, is dealing with a similar brand of "left behind" confusion. Eddie was the only one "left behind" in that he's the only one who survived everything his squad went through, but Buck is dealing with it in the sense that death came and robbed him of something, but he's still "left behind" to pick up the pieces.

Both men have struggled immensely with the idea of cheating death, of living on borrowed time (though both concepts are outlined more explicitly in Buck's arc than it was in Eddie's), but the similarities of their trajectories are important to note because they will both, ultimately, lead to the same place—to the realization that cheating death and living on borrowed time means you have to, subsequently, do something with that time. Buck says it himself a the end of the scene: every day, from the point of death onward, is a gift, one that must be embraced before time runs out.

Time is running out for Buck and Eddie, but not in an entirely ominous way. Time is running out in the sense that both are rapidly becoming aware of that fact that days wasted aren't just days wasted; they are gifts that are going discarded without being embraced to the fullest. And when they finally sort themselves out, I believe that realization is going to hit them the hardest. Because it won't be so much the idea that "we could have had this, we could have had each other, sooner if we weren't so afraid," but the realization that "we were happy and we were okay, but we weren't as happy or okay as we could have been," and that's a hard pill to swallow for two men who have lived chunks of their lives playing against the nebulous, overwhelming nature of time.

I'm sure they'll figure it out—both together and individually—they always do. But in the meantime, the slow crush of both of their feelings against each other, and against the audience, is nothing short of agonizing.

Get it together, boys. I'm on my knees begging. Work it out for the sake of your hearts and mine. I can't take this much longer lol
