I'm ambivalent about affirmative action in US colleges (my for and against file contains many items, none of which are personal factors) and I want to disclaim that the following personal thing is an argument about it. I think the way I and my family gambled so much on an elite college admission + scholarship was not very wise or necessary. South Korean culture cares about positional goods too much for its own good. If you invest so much into getting a rare positional good, and you damage yourself stressing over whether you'll get it or not, it's largely your fault for putting yourself in that position. Okay, now that I've given enough caveats:

It was spiritually corrosive to go through the process of applying to elite US colleges as an Asian person.

And it was spiritually corrosive to attend, and realize how wide my friends' range of scores & preparation was.

That's it. That's the post. I don't particularly feel like centering this as an experience that has shaped me, because it isn't central, but it's not tiny either, and sometimes people make remarks that make me go, oh wow, you don't know this about me. Which makes sense, because I don't talk about it, because I have no desire to be misconstrued as sneaking in a personal feeling as a political stance... so I walk around with this little nick on my psyche that usually feels closed over, and a couple times a year feels like someone just stuck their whole finger in there.

i briefly had the ~wacky~ idea of a "taco tour of norway" where you visit taco restaurants all across norway, then looked up bus fares and train fares and ferry tickets and travel times and decided that this is perhaps a little too wacky

I feel like a lot of indie horror game people should just write short horror stories instead? Like the games are so linear (and ones with multiple endings are like. Did you die yes or no?) and i dont think the interactivity actually adds anything for a lot of them. I get that the appeal is getting that anxiety about being chased and i....dont get that because i watch other people which is a fair criticism but like when all the chase sequences are still hide in a locker/under a bed (breath mechanic optional) or kite dudes around furniture why wouldnt a structured unique chase scene be better? Which again is something that works better in a short story than a game

Like I think it actively got worse. #the 'LGBTQ+ love stories' section includes Lightyear and HSMTMTS but not The Owl House?? #TOH is the best representation across kid's media and it doesn't even appear on the front page???? You have to scroll through the lists #It doesn't even include any of the 'first gays' they touted. Like BatB (2018) Cruella Jungle Cruise Onward #they all suck but it's almost more embarrassing to ignore them. Or at least an admission that they're not really representation.
