Alfa Romeo Alfasud Sprint Veloce 1.5 

Introduced in 1976, the Alfasud Sprint is the sporty version of the four-door sedan with which, four years earlier, Alfa Romeo entered for the first in the low-cost car category. The line, designed, like that of the normal Alfasud, by Giorgetto Giugiaro, proposes the low, sloping silhouette of another famous Alfa coupe designed by the car designer of the century, the 1974 Alfetta GT. Initially offered with the tried-and-true boxer engines with displacements of 1.3 and 1.5 litres fueled by a single double barrel carburettor, from 1979 the Alfasud Sprint was also offered in the more powerful single-fueled "Veloce" versions, both of which gained about ten horsepower: powered by two double barrel carburettor, the 1.3 provided 86 hp, while the more powerful 1.5 provided 95 hp. This light grey Alfasud Sprint  is not just any "Veloce" version with the more powerful 1.5-litre engine. The car is one of the 1000 examples of the special "Trofeo" series, which the company launched in 1982 on the wave of the success of the Trofeo Alfasud single-brand championship.Giugiaro's design. These are just some of the reasons why the Alfasud Sprint has become one of the most popular and sought-after vintage Alfa Romeos among enthusiasts. The most powerful 1.5 engine provides a vigorous thrust that, forty years later, enables this snappy Italian school coupe to achieve excellent performance, especially in acceleration. In the special "Trofeo" series, then, Biscione's small sports car smells of racing, emphasizing a long tradition of success on the road and on the track that makes Alfa Romeo one of the world's most appreciated and beloved car makers.

Alfa Romeo Alfasud Sprint 1.5 Veloce, 1976. Giugiaro had designed the coupé version of the Alfasud in the late 60s so it was one of Italdesign’s first cars, however it did not enter production until the mid-70s. It remained in the showrooms after the Alfasud saloon had been replaced by the Alfa 33 and was not replaced when it was finally discontinued in 1989

Dessiné par Giugiaro et fortement inspiré par l'Alfetta GT, le résultat fut des plus plaisants. Le moteur était le boxer 1 286 cm3 de 75 ch, brillant mais pas très puissant. Le prix élevé limita son succès. En 1978, la gamme a été étendue avec l'introduction des versions Veloce 1.3 et Veloce 1.5, dotées des moteurs boxer à 2 carburateurs double corps de 1 351 cm3 (86 ch) et 1 490 cm3 (95 ch). Une version 1.3 avec moteur simple carburateur de 79 ch est maintenue en entrée de gamme.En 1982, un prototype fut nommé Sprint 6C destiné à être développé par Autodelta pour les rallyes internationaux. Il reçut un V6 de 2,5L en position centrale. Il n'y eut pas de suite. En 1983, un restylage (nouveaux pare-chocs en plastique, nouvelle calandre, nouveaux feux arrière, bandes latérales plus larges, peinture noire de toutes les parties auparavant chromées et nouveaux intérieurs) lança la seconde série, appelé tout simplement Sprint, perdant l'appellation Alfasud. Deux versions étaient disponibles : 1.3 (1 351 cm3, 86 ch) et 1.5 Quadrifoglio Verde (QV) (1 490 cm3, 105 ch). Le modèle QV se caractérise par une boîte de vitesses courte. Ce dernier est reconnaissable grâce aux lignes vertes sur les pare-chocs et des sièges sport avec appuis-tête percés. Cette version sera vraiment sportive, profitant d'une tenue de route et d'une motricité exemplaires.En 1986, la ligne est allégée grâce à l'élimination des bandes latérales et par quelques modifications aux pare-chocs. La cylindrée de la Quadrifoglio Verde, qui adopta un petit spoiler couleur de la carrosserie à l'arrière, passa de 1 490 cm3 à 1 712 cm3 (118 ch). Les dernières unités produites seront écoulées en 1989. À l'exception du dernier modèle 1 712 cm3, l'Alfasud "coupé" (berline trois portes) développe des performances un agrément de conduite généralement supérieurs aux Sprint. Alfasud Sprint Veloce 1.5 Trofeo, 1982. One racing Alfa that did make it onto the track, the Autodelta-prepared Sprint Trofeo (Trophy) was popular in European GT competition and still appears in historic races.
