YASER ABDEL SAID
YASER ABDEL SAID
1957
Yaser Abdel Said murdered his two daughters in Honor Killing
Said was an American taxi driver who was married to Patricia and had three children, a son named Islam and two daughters, Amina, 18, and Sarah, 17. He had moved from Egypt to America in 1987, Patricia was 15 when she agreed to marry Said, aged 30 to let him remain in the country.
Said controlled his daughters, as well as sexually assaulting and abusing them. The girls confided in their grandmother (Patricia’s mother) what their father was doing to them, and she called the police, Patricia didn’t want Said to go to prison so she told her daughters to recount their confessions and therefore he continued abusing them. Said would record them without their knowledge, he would go through their phones and have Islam follow them when he wasn’t around. There is video footage that he filmed of his daughters, making sleazy comments and in one video his daughter covers herself with a pillow and screams at him, ‘This is illegal’. When Amina turned 16, he took her to Egypt and told her it was for a holiday, but when he was there he attempted to marry her to his male friend who was aged 50. Amina rang her mother and begged her to help her stop the marriage from going ahead; Said agreed that Islam (who was the oldest child) should marry first.
Said wasn’t happy when he discovered his daughters were dating and in 2007 the girls told their mother that Said had threatened to kill Amina. Patricia and her daughters fled and Said reported his wife and daughter’s missing to the police. Patricia missed her son Islam and secretly got into contact with Said. She told her daughters that she was taking them to visit their grandmother’s grave but that was a lie, she then confessed that she was taking them back to their father. The girls were frightened, however, Sarah obeyed her mother, and Amina initially refused to return and stayed at her boyfriend’s family home. Patricia went over to visit Amina and told her that Said had forgiven them and talked her into returning. Amina said to her boyfriend, ‘My father will never let me see you again’. A few hours later both girls would be dead.
On 1 January 2008, Said told his daughters he was going to take them out to dinner, instead of taking them out to dinner; he drove them to a deserted parking spot and shot dead his daughters. At 7:35pm, Sarah rang 911 and told the operator that she had been shot, ‘My dad shot me and my sister. I’m dying’ The operator heard her get shot again and this was when Sarah died. He had killed Amina first and then shot Sarah nine times. Their bodies were discovered in his abandoned taxi in Irving, Texas at the back of a hotel. Said had contacted his brother Yassein, before and after he murdered his daughters. Patricia later said that her husband believed his daughters were too westernized and ‘too American’.
Said went into hiding and wasn’t found until 2020 in Justin, Texas. He, his son, and Yassein were arrested. He was sentenced to life in prison. Patricia wasn’t punished by the law for her involvement.

Mid-Year Book Meme (2023)
@sixappleseeds said that anyone who wanted to could do this so I have decided that includes me
1. Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2023? I've read a lot of good books this year! Some Desperate Glory by Emily Tesh was a good read, the Will Darling trilogy by KJ Charles was also really good. My favourite debut so far is To Shape a Dragon's Breath by Moniquill Blackgoose. Some others will be used later but have a right to be here too.
2. Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2023? The Mysteries of Thorn Manor by Margaret Rogerson! Nice fun sequel novella that ties up some loose ends and lets readers spend more time with the characters (and the house, which has Opinions).
3. New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To? The Archive Undying by Emma Mieko Candon is next on my list. And on my library borrows pile.
4. Most Anticipated Release For Second Half of 2023? Moon of the Turning Snow by Waubgeshig Rice is definitely up there, as are A Power Unbound by Freya Marske and The Salvation Gambit by Emily Strutskie.
5. Biggest Disappointment? Mortal Follies by Alexis Hall, which made me feel like my brain was being eaten by gummy worms. In a bad way.
6. Biggest Surprise? A Half-built Garden by Ruthanna Emrys! I was expecting to like it, but I wasn't expecting how often I just... think about it apropos of nothing now. It's one of the first cli-fi stories that is optimistic but avoids becoming too saccharine for my taste.
7. Favorite New Author? Terry Pratchett is kind of new to me, I had read Nation but this was my first time picking up Discworld books. KJ Charles is the other new author whose work I've read quite a bit of this year.
8. Newest Favorite Character? I don't have that many characters that I'm WILDLY attached to any characters that I read about this year. Emily Wilde from Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries is very good. I like that she's better at relating to fae than humans due to autism social awkwardness of no particular diagnosis I'm sure.
9. Newest Fictional Crush? *flashback to that time everyone thought I was lying when I said I didn't have a crush on anyone during an icebreaker due to my brain going completely blank* Uhhh...
10. Book That Made You Cry? And This is How to Stay Alive by Shingai Njeri Kagunda, in the The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy 2021 collection definitely brought tears to my eyes (older sibling FEELINGSSSSS etc), but the last book had me an utter wreck was last year when I read Nona the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir.
11. Book That Made You Happy? The Luminaries by Sarah Dennard was fun and made me laugh as I liveblogged it for my friends. A Half-built Garden also merits a second mention because it was nice to find a book in the genre that didn't make me either deeply despairing or violently annoyed.
12. Favorite Book Adaptation You Saw This Year? I guess Nimona wins by default, I don't think I've watched any other adaptations.
13. Favorite Review You’ve Written This Year? I guess my June reading list wins by default also because I don't think I've written any other reviews.
14. Most Beautiful Cover? The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty has a gorgeous cover, I like that it looks kind like it's printed from woodcuts almost.
15. What Books Do You Need To Read By The End of The Year? The Crane Husband by Kelly Barnhill is on my list.
And I'm tagging: @lloonlloon, @notpuckconnolly, and whoever else wants to do it!

Have you heard of the Amina and Sarah Said case? I'm learning about it now and while of course the entire thing is is horrible and heartbreaking, with the killers family aiding and abetting him because they clearly agree with what be did and then some, but the absolute hypocrisy of the killer to feel its absolutely unacceptable for the girls to date american boys while he married an american woman? No one was out there killing him when he did that. Idk it's just a little something that makes it all more manipulative and narcissistic. Also fuck their brother he was the oldest and should've had their back, I'm glad he got time too
I have, yeah. I wrote about it years ago before he was finally caught. But yes, cases like that are always so horrific to me, for a family to think that murder is justified. It's absolutely shameful.

Jury selection is set to begin in the trial of a Texas taxicab driver accused in the 2008 "honor killings" of his two teenage daughters, CBS DFW reports.
Yaser Abdel Said was arrested after 12 years on the run in August 2020, in Justin, 36 miles northwest of Dallas. At the time, he was one of the FBI's 10 Most Wanted.
Said's brother Yassein and his son Islam were arrested in Euless, Texas. Both of them were charged with harboring a known fugitive and are now serving time in federal prison.
The Egyptian-born suspect had been sought on a capital murder warrant since the New Year's Day 2008 fatal shootings of the two Lewisville High School students, Sarah Yaser Said, 17, and Amina Yaser Said, 18.
A police report at the time said a family member told investigators that the suspect threatened "bodily harm″ against Sarah for going on a date with a non-Muslim. The mother, Patricia Said, fled with her daughters in the week before their deaths because she was in "great fear for her life." Gail Gattrell, the sisters' great-aunt, has called the deaths an "honor killing,"  in which a woman is murdered by a relative to protect her family's honor.
The teenage sisters were found shot multiple times in a cab outside a motel in Irving, a Dallas suburb. Police found them after one of the girls called 911 from a cellphone and said she was dying.
"Help," said a crying voice on the 911 recording, later determined by police to be that of Sarah Said. "I'm dying. Oh my God. Stop it."
Police could not immediately find the teens after the 7:33 p.m. call. Much of what Sarah said in the recording was unintelligible, and the dispatcher's repeated requests for her to provide an address went unanswered.
An emergency dispatcher received another call about an hour later from an Irving motel. The sisters' bodies were in a cab, one in the front passenger seat and the other in the back. The caller said he could see blood.
"They don't look alive," said the caller, whose name was deleted from the recording.

A "honor killings" father who killed his young daughters in a cab because they were dating non-Muslim boys was arrested. The FBI has apprehended a father wanted in connection with the 2008 murders of his two teenage daughters after he spent 12 years on the run. Yaser Abdel Said, 63, was peacefully taken into custody by agents on Wednesday in Justin, Texas, according to an FBI statement. His daughters, Lewisville High School students Sarah Yaser Said, 17, and Amina Yaser Said, 18, had died, and he had been sought for capital murder. Said had been listed as one of the FBI's Ten Most Wanted since 2014, when he fatally shot his two kids in a taxi in Irving, Texas. The females had been seeing non-Muslim boys, according to the police, who described the deaths as "honor killings," and the suspect was furious about this. When the shootings took place, the girls believed they were heading to dine with their taxi driver father. After the shootings, Sara was able to dial 911. As she spoke to a 911 dispatcher, she begged for assistance and identified her father as the shooter, according to the Washington Post. “Help,” Sarah said. “I’m dying. Oh my God. Stop it.” Authorities took some time to locate the girls after they were unable to determine the address from the 911 call. Around 7:30 p.m., someone from an Omni hotel nearby discovered the girls' dead bodies and dialed 911. The search for their killer never stopped, according to Irving Police Chief Jeff Spivey, despite 12 years of disappointment and dead ends. Yaser Said's arrest today "brings us closer to making sure justice is done on their behalf.” (at United States) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn11j5XOG7Q/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Good riddance. He got what he deserved.
as adults, when we bring children into the world, our obligations is to love them, protect them, Discipline them and as they get older to let them be independent and make their own decisions while still making sure to stay on the right track. And he not only controlled his own daughters, he murdered them.
if he didn’t like the culture of the Americans then Why would he even come to America , marry an American woman and have kids here if he’s too afraid they’d favor the American culture? If he was so against western world, and his daughters should not date American/non Muslim men, then why did he marry a American woman? One rule for him and another for his daughters? simple: it’s about control and domination over them and their lives.
he wanted full control over his own daughters and when they wanted to break free from his control, he took their lives.
What he had done to his own children by callously taking their lives because they wanted to date Americans is not about maintaining honor, it’s was about maintaining control and domination over them.
As a father his job is to love and protect them , not to kill them for being independent young ladies.
I don’t care what kind of culture you live in or what traditions you celebrate , if you think that Harming your own child is a way to maintaining honor because your child wanted independence and find their own way then you’re not honorable. You’re terrible excuse for a parent. That’s not honorable.
That’s dishonorable.
I hope that every day that he’s in jail for the rest of his life that the sounds of their daughters final moments as they were calling 911 and their blood curdling screams while they were getting murdered by someone who was supposed to love them haunts his conscience that is if he had any
There’s no honor among killers. Especially those who kill their own child

Inside the FBI’s Decades-Long Hunt To Find Dad Accused of ‘Honor Killing’ His Daughters
Reuters It did not take long for authorities to suspect Yaser Said was involved in the murder of his two teenage daughters, whose bullet-ridden bodies were found inside an orange Jet Taxi cab on New Year’s Day in 2008. Said, who was the last person to be seen with 17-year-old Sarah and 18-year-old Amina, was nowhere near the taxi when it was found outside a Dallas-area hotel—despite a 911 call…

I cried yesterday when the police found this bitch that killed his daughters, he had been on the run since 2008. I've felt a connection to Amina and Sarah ever since I watched their story a few years ago. I'm normally not a extremely emotional person but this case messed me up 😔 May Yaser, his son and his brother rot in prison
