How Redacted Characters Wrap Gifts Pt 2

Here's how I envision various Redacted bois would wrap their gifts...

Demons

Avior: So neat. Matching ribbon and gift tag. If he can't find a matching gift tag, there won't be one. He'll remember who it's for. Camelopardalis: Uses seed paper. It's colourful and has wildflower seeds in so you can plant it. I nearly gave this one to Huxley, but this kind of felt like Cam would like it too.

Vega: Given that gifts aren't a human concept, he could be persuaded to give someone a token gift perhaps? If they needed something, like a human to feed on maybe. Wrapping might be a step too far.

Guy: WRAPPING! Oh yes! Will absolutely try to find funny or offensive paper. Be warned. Probably as bad as the contents. Saw a YouTube Short about wrapping a gift in several layers of duct tape, zip ties, paper, staples, rubber bands and thought it was HYSTERICAL! Honey did not.

Aaron: Very civilised. Sits down with everything he needs, some music on and a drink, and spends a whole evening wrapping up in nice normal paper.

Marcus: Tells people he's "donating to a good cause this year" instead of giving gifts and cards. He's a lying sack of shit.

Ollie: Very careful, and you can generally see where he's peeled back the tape to re-stick it because he dropped the tape on the paper in the wrong place.

His annoyance at the events of the day wasn’t going away anytime soon, but being around you had always had a calming sense with him. It had always been a way for him to wind down. You heard his bag hit the kitchen table hard, a small jump of your body scooting you closer to the stove as you reached for the spoon.

As you started to mix what you had in the pot you felt warm breath on your neck, you hadn’t even heard him come up behind you. You shivered and whipped yourself around, his eyes now hungry as they looked back at you. “E-Eren? What are you doing?”

Should plastic be banned?

Plastic is used all around everyday however it’s mostly single use before being thrown away. This creates a build up of waste plastic that takes many years to decompose in a landfill (if it even decomposes). So is it really worth it and should it be banned? Plastic is one of the biggest causes for environmental pollution and as a substance, is non-biodegradable leaving it to pollute the land for centuries to come. This use may ruin the planet entirely and many countries around the world have put tax on plastic bags to prevent its use. The bags not only cause land pollution, but water pollution as well. Animals and marine life unknowingly consume plastic particles in their food and research shows that plastic has been a cause for the untimely deaths of animals. The production of plastic not only affects animals, but humans too. The toxic chemicals released from this process is a main reason for various diseases which are spreading to human beings. Furthermore, plastic bags clog sewage and are the main reason for trapping the drains and sewers, especially during rains. This causes floods and causes more work to remove and fix if necessary. However, because so many businesses rely on plastic, it would be hard to ban. It is also very difficult to find replacements for it as plastic is used in everyday life all the time from packaging to building and construction to products and more, plastic is an almost necessary part of modern life. That being said, there are ways to prevent the constant cycle of its use. Keep tabs on how much plastic you use and try to lessen it by choosing bio-degradable or eco-friendly alternatives. If this is not possible, then try to reuse as often as you can. Also try to spread awareness of the dangers of plastic and its pollution as its issue is still overlooked and under-estimated. This is because people don’t look for the long-term effects of its use and its convenience is taken for granted. In a perfect world, plastic may be banned altogether. But until then, minimise its use to protect the environment and earth.

Difference between oxo biodegradable plastics and compostable plastics

Materials used- oxo biodegradable plastics are commonly produced with renewable raw materials, microorganisms, petrochemicals or with all of them. While, compostable plastics are produced with renewable materials like corn, bamboo, potato, tapioca starches, cellulose, soy proteins, and lactic acid.

How can we get Gold from the Golden Fibre?

Due to its natural colour and importance jute has become known as the ‘golden fibre’ . The fabric has little impact on the environment and is proven to be very durable and the plants are easy to grow, produce a large crop and do not require various pesticides and fertilizers. The fiber is a relation of the flax and hemp plants and is extracted by a very similar method. Jute has a vast array of uses ranging from carpet backing to re-usable bags. Jute is mainly grown in India in the fertile Ganges Delta where it produces a high yield annual crop.

India is the largest producer and consumer of jute products in the world. The figure is around 1.97 million MT for India, followed by 1.24 million MT for Bangladesh, our neighbor and second largest producer, but world’s largest exporter. Yet, interest in this fiber is withering away in India due to less interest of people. We need to revive the same. The jute products include rugs, carpets, footwear, wine bottle bags, carry bags, hand bags, wall hangings, jewellery, baskets, coasters, lamp shades, decorative articles and show pieces. Slowly jute is losing market despite the fact that it is reusable, eco-friendly and bio degradable. 92% Jute is used for packaging which is under regulation which says all of food grain has to be packaged in jute bags only. Only balance 8% used for other purposes. However, demand for jute is on a downward trend because of cost competitiveness of mass production from synthetic fibres. Moreover, there are fluctuations in Government Demand for packaging, according to media reports. But, Government of India is keen to develop the sector and has hiked the MSP. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in March 2024 approved ₹285/quintal hike in the minimum support price (MSP) for raw jute to ₹5,335/quintal for the 2024-25 season as against ₹5,050/quintal for the 2023-24. The Government of West Bengal is providing Crop Insurance too, which gives a lot of security to the sector.

To improve the Jute Market, we may take Bangladesh as a reference point here, since they give 3-4 types of subsidy, including 9-10% subsidy for food packing bags. Perhaps, subsidy may be needed to revive Jute demand, in matter other than packaging. And once the desired scale is achieved the subsidy can be withdrawn. But, to work out the needed subsidy, we require detailed research. Last, but not the least, we also need to ensure only ‘Made in India’ Jute is being sold in India.
