Pairing: Neteyam Sully x Female! Metkayina! Na'vi Reader Tags/warnings: Fluff, angst, bittersweet, established relationship, adult reader, adult Neteyam, no smut Summary: Neteyam quietly watches you from the shore as you perform a ritual dance in the water, to the utter delight of your daughters.
Author's Note: Set some time after the big battle. Also moved those events further ahead. You and Neteyam are mated and have children before the RDA attacks the reef. Got inspired by the song~
Sa’nu - mum, mommy
Tahni - bioluminescent freckle
Close your eyes.
Deep breathes.
Remember the moves.
Remember the words...
Your heart thrums in your chest almost painfully. You take a deep, slow, calming breath; placing a hand over your heart.
“Sa’nu? Are you okay?”
You open your eyes, looking down to meet the gaze of your youngest daughter. The cool water of the sea comes up to her neck. Sweet thing. You told her, she and her sister could watch you from the shoreline. But they were persistent to be as close to you as possible. The water barely reaches your hips.
You offer a soft smile, reaching down and affectionately stroking her hair.
“I’m okay…Don’t worry my little star. Mommy’s just nervous.” The 5-year-old beams up at you with a toothy grin. Your 6-year-old beside her pats you on the arm.
“You practiced aaaaall the time! You got this.” She offers you her own encouraging smile. You give her an appreciative nod before facing the shoreline once more. You return your face to neutrality, closing your eyes once again.
You hear the disturbance of the water as your daughters move a bit to the side to give you more space to move.
With one final calming breath, you open your mouth and begin the song cord of your family.
---
Neteyam stands under the shade of a nearby tree on the shoreline. His arms are crossed as he watches the three of you.
The evening breeze carries your voice to him. He stands up straight when the sound hits his ears.
When you sing, it reminds him of the melody of birdsong in spring. No matter how many years may pass between you two, every time he hears you play the instrument of your heart, he feels like he could fall in love with you all over again.
He takes in your form as you start swaying in the water, admiring you from top to bottom.
Your hair, thick and long, reaching all the way down to your knees; you and your sisters spent what must have been hours, braiding it into the intricate patterns now adorning your head.
Even from this distance, he can still make out the faint markings of the tattoos framing your face. Though today you also have a thin line of white painting the centre of your face. You could have mud smeared all over and he would still find you to be the most beautiful woman; you have him convinced you are blessed by Eywa herself.
You arms move slow and with purpose through the air; attuned with the words as they fall from your lips.
Your soft lips.
How he wishes he could kiss you right now.
You dip down, submerging your arms into the water. In one fluid motion, you rise back up to your feet, the motion you perform with your hands and arms bring water up with you as you rose. Your arms are stretched out to your sides as you pirouette.
Neteyam’s heart skips a beat as he watches you, and it’s as if time itself slows, just so he can drink in the beauty of your very being.
With your back to eclipse, your front is cast in shadow.
The water falls around you in a shimmering curtain of rain. The last light of eclipse hits the smooth stones woven into the fabric on your chest; causing a cascade of colours to dance across your skin. And when the sun disappears, your tahni come to life like the brilliance of dawn.
It’s one of his most favourite parts of your body. Though you had the scattered stars as did all Na’vi, for reasons he attests only to being blessed by Eywa, you have thin bioluminescent swirls weaving itself around your arms, chest, and all down your legs. To him it’s like a faint galaxy glittering in the night.
He recalls fondly the memory of him knowing each and every star on your body intimately.
And in the fading light of the day do you shine before him. Resplendent as you are in the day, so too will you dazzle the world around you in the darkness of the approaching night.
His heart throbs something fierce when you open your eyes after dipping into the water once more. Even behind the curtain of water, or the netting of the fabric draped over your head, your eyes glow with a fierceness he knows all to well. It pierces his very soul, a warmth sweeping over him.
He drinks you in more as you bend your form this way and that. He wishes he knew the intricacies of your dance; understood what each fluid motion meant, the significance of each swish of your tail, or the ways you angle your hands and bend your fingers.
You close your eyes as you near the end of the cord song.
As you perform another twirl, you playfully swat the water with your thick tail, splashing your daughters.
Their uncontrollable gigging brings a smile to your face. You open your eyes as you continue to dance, giving them a loving look. They’re splashing each other with reckless abandon as they try to imitate your moves. You can’t help the unrestrained laughter their antics bring you.
Neteyam laughs quietly to himself as he watches his girls playfully flay about in the water. Every day since their birth he’s given thanks to both you and the Great Mother for blessing him with such miracles. He hadn’t thought it was possible to love something as much as he loved you.
He feels a stray tear fall down his cheek. But he doesn’t move to wipe it away. Instead he continues to smile as he watches your song and dance coming to its conclusion.
You turn to face the horizon, and his gaze drifts to his girls.
They’re singing something he can’t quite make out, but he loves the sound nonetheless.
And when their eyes meet his, finally noticing his presence, they wave at him wildly, giggling all over again.
His smile grows wider, and he offers them a small wave back.
---
One final pose, and you hold the final note of your song, eyes still closed. You hold that note until your lungs and throat burn.
You hear the excited cheers of your daughters as they shower you with praise. Your breathing is laboured as your heart pounds in your chest, but you offer them a bow and a small smile of gratitude.
You turn yourself to the horizon before you finally open your eyes. The ritual dance has come to and end.
You rub the cool ocean water on your cheeks, in your neck, and down your arms; all in an effort to cool you down from your laborious activity. You breath deep in from the nose, and slowly exhale through your mouth, calming your rapid heartbeat.
The girls still giggle beside you, resuming their unrefined dancing; now also singing their favourite lullaby in lieu of a songcord.
Sufficiently cooled off, you turn your head to your daughters to admire them in their silliness.
Your brow nits in slight confusion though, when you see them waving at something behind you, giggling all the while.
You turn around, curiosity in your eyes.
But the shoreline is just as empty as when you arrived.

Author's Notes: It was a private funeral dance 😢

@little-box-of-autism I’m posting this ask as an image because I posted the draft before it was done teehe 🤭 anyway, enjoyyyy💅✨ also this is a full-sized one-shot now so if you want a bit of context — feel free to read the headcannon list for how Spider’s dynamic with one of the Sullys would look like if they were to be caught by the RDA together.
An outcast and a coward (Spider caught with Neteyam AU)
.
“-And then he rose out of the water like some goddamn hydra and pulled me into the pond! But then I remembered about the mask so it was fine, and then we fought with Fike and Mansk but of course I won because I mean — look at me” Spider grinned sarcastically, flexing his biceps as he told Neteyam the story of what happened while he went to fish with half of the recom squad as the younger Na'vi was given the assignment of finding twigs for the fire with another group. In his excitement, the blonde failed to notice the irritation slowly creeping into Neteyam's features.
“You had a lot of fun today, haven’t you?”
“Uh huh” Spdier nodded innocently, smiling. “Turns out Miles knows how to relax after all, and he's almost bearable to be around when he is!”
“You're calling him by his first name now?” Once again, a small red flag popped up in the form of Neteyam's slightly malicious tone, but his brother missed it all the same.
“Well yeah, can't keep on calling him sir. He's not my boss or granpa, it gets awkward.”
“Yeah, real awkward...”
Finally, the human had caught on. “...is something wrong? Was Lopez being an asshole to you again?” He asked with a hint of protectiveness.
“What? No, no....I just....I don't know..” now that Teyam was forced to face the topic thst has been bothering him head on, he felt sort of uncomfortable addressing it for a reason he didn't understand. “I know we can't get on the nerves of these pricks all the time but..aren't you getting a little too friendly with the colonel?”
Spider stopped, confused and at the insinuation. “...What are you talking about? I'm not being friends with him I'm just...well, trying to make this whole captivity thing more manageable. You said it yourself: we can't just be rude all the time, it grows old and gets on their nerves...”
“That is not what I-Spider” Neteyam leaned forward to make sure that the recoms at the camp didn't hear them, as they stood on the outskirts. “These avatars are looking for our family. They want to hunt down and kill my father. You can't play house with them just because they give us basic respect.”
“"play house"?? I'm just trying to be civil! I'm sorry if I don't feel like walking around handcuffed all day!”
“Is that what you call being "civil"? Playing games and acting all cute with a literal coloniser??” Neteyam's face morphed into a frown as he seemed to be letting out an emotion he's been holding in for a long time, and seeing it made Spider feel only more agitated at his accusations. Why did this moron have to bottle everything up until it spilled over? The blonde thought, ignoring the fact that he acted the same way.
“God, so what if I had one nice moment with-“
“Don't give me that.” Neteyam cut the boy off with an edge to his words similar to Neytiri's. “You've been doing nothing but batting your eyelashes at him for like, two weeks now.” The Na'vi spat as his buried anger bubbled to the surface. “For Eywa's sake I saw him pat you on the head yesterday and you practically melted into a puddle! Does it really feel that nice to have a murderer coddle you?” Young warrior's voice was cold as his accent thickened, a feature that appeared when he was getting furious.
It cut Spider like a knife as he felt embarrassment creep up his spine, painting his cheeks red. He was trying to play it cool as best as he could, he really did. But if Neteyam noticed, did the recoms too? Did Quartich? He thought he saw him hide a smile in that moment. God, how pathetic.
“Have you forgotten what they’re after??”
“N-no I-”
“So you have no shame then??” Neteyam raised his voice in a scolding tone, attracting the attention of some recoms in the distance, but they could still barely hear the conversation. “They’re reborn murderers. That man is responsible for destroying Hometree and you sag into his touch like a stray kitten??” Neteyam watched as Spider’s shoulders dropped with his every word, but couldn’t stop himself.
For weeks on end Teyam had been living in fear that tomorrow will be the day his father will die right in front of him, the day his family will fall appart and he couldn’t keep it in any longer, couldn’t watch Spider’s treacherous behaviour.
“Well, alright, it wasn’t really him who destroyed Hometree. That Quartich is dead and had been for years, this guy is just a clone.” Spider tried to explain himself, but realised that it was a very bad decision to make as Neteyam’s face stilled in shock.
“I-what I’m saying is-he’s still a humongous piece of shit but…but he could change. Eywa recognised him when she gave him an ikran, so he he can connect to her, he can learn, he could see. He’s not a lost cause and I just…I guess what I’m trying to say is…maybe if I try hard enough…maybe he could…y’know…switch sides? And then maybe no one will have to die?”
The silence was heavy with tension as Teyam stared into Spider’s soul.
“Are you shitting me?” He spat, and Spider could already tell this was going to end badly. Neteyam had that menacing low tone that usually expanded into yelling as he slowly opened the pandora’s box and let his emotions take hold of him. “You’re excusing him??” He pointed towards the colonel in the distance, who was coming back from the river with Fike, still in a good mood from interacting with Spider.
“Wha-NO! I would never excuse his actions, but he’s not that man!” The blonde tried desperately to defend himself. This is not what the meant.
“Did he tell you that? Are you just taking his word for it now!?” The Na’vi boy yelled and now everyone in the camp were staring at the two, but he payed them no mind. “What else did he tell you, huh? What other lies have you picked up??”
“None! Jesus Teyam I’m just trying to put things into perspective!”
“He is a genocidal maniac!! There is no perspective!!! Why are you so fucking hellbent on-oh.” The warrior stopped in the middle of his lecture, fury crossing his face. “It’s because of your blood isn’t it.”
Oh no. No no no.
“All these years of teaching you about that monster’s atrocities and yet you crawled back to him the second he showed up on our doorstep? Well aren’t you loyal to a fault.” He snarled, sarcasm oozing from his words.
Spider’s voice shook. He could never be loyal to him, what would make the Na’vi even think that? “Neteyam-”
“You were one of us and yet no matter how widely we opened our arms to you, you still chose them!?”
“I did not—”
“I’d call you a traitor but that wouldn’t be true would it? You were always on their side.” Neteyam was being paranoid at this point, but Spider didn’t know how to calm him, didn’t knew how to get through to the boy through his anger and Spider’s own terrified beating heart, but the next sentence made him freeze into a statue.
“Mother was right.” Neteyam growled. “You really are a demon, no better than him.”
The recoms have caught onto their argument, but stayed dead silent in shock of what they’ve just heard. Miles was frankly at a loss for words. What made the blue brat act so aggressively? How was the colonel suppose to react? He looked at the corporal in search of any kind of advice, but he had none and only put his hand on Quaritch’s shoulder in a sign of ‘this is their business, not ours. It’ll be a bad call to intervene.’
The blonde, meanwhile, didn’t even breathe as his heart shattered into tiny pieces. He heard the villagers at high camp whisper these words, but he never expected Neteyam to join in.
How did it even come to this? Long ago, they used to be such close friends, almost inseparable.
And now his old friend was calling him a demon.
Tears formed at the corners of the kid’s eyes as he stared back at Neteyam, trying to process the words he had heard and as they truly sank in, amongst the shame and the heartbreak, an old, long buried feeling began boiling his blood. The silence between the two was deafening.
Spider looked like he was desperately searching for something, until his mind, which was currently running in circles around the hurtful things Neteyam had said, settled on a sentence.
“ "wide open arms"? When did that happen?” His voice was suspiciously calm, so calm in fact it caught the younger boy off-guard as the snarl disappeared from his face.
“What?”
“You said the Ometekaya had accepted me with wide open arms. When did that happen?”
“…What do you mean?”
“I’m asking you a question. When did the Omatekaya accept me? Because I don’t remember that happening.”
The kid looked up at Neteyam, tear tracks on his cheeks and eyes filled with hurt the Na’vi had never seen before. “In fact, last time I checked, I was just a stray animal, an annoying, dirty waste of space to the clan and the family.” His breathing hitched. “I spent years trying to prove myself. Never talking back, never responding to the hurtful things said behind my back, always turning the other cheek in hopes that one day I won’t be hated anymore.” New tears poured down as Spider slowly, painfully opened up.
“…Spider…” Neteyam stood shocked, starting to regret his previous words. When was the last time he saw Spider cry? It must have been at least a decade. He looked so vulnerable like this, so much smaller than he actually was as his defences got torn down.
“I tried, I really did, to make the clan proud, to make them see I could be worthy, and when they called me a stray, an intruder, a-a murderer in the making, I kept my head down. I tho-ught…” he sobbed. “I thought if I just made myself as convenient as possible. Maybe….maybe….you would finally recognise me again…”
The younger Na’vi stood lost for words as his heart skipped several beats and the memories he kept at bay for almost half a decade began washing over him in waves.
He recalled the day his mother, Neytiri, made it clear she did not want an heir to the Olo’teykan and a "potential killer" hanging out together. Neteyam tried going up against her before, but this time her words felt final. He took her side that day, when Spider cried and defied her, yelling with a broken, small voice that they would keep being brothers no matter what, because it was a vow they gave one another years prior, when they were only babies.
He never kept that promise and the two of them never had a proper conversation afterwards. Neteyam felt too guilty to confront the human boy, so he just pretended like they were mere acquaintances.
And he did so for years.
Until recently, that is.
Just this morning, that day felt like a hundred years ago but now, as Teyam relived that argument in his mind, it looked like it had only happened yesterday. Like Neteyam had only abandoned Spider 24 hours ago.
“But I see it now…that you never even wanted to. Not you, not miss Sully, not Mister Sully, and not the clan. You turned your backs when I made a good deed but pointed at me at the slightest mistake. You only saw me for my failures, my ancestry and you never cared.” The na’vi boy never thought words could hurt this badly but they did, as guilt ate away at him and he watched the blonde fall appart more and more with every sentence.
“You cut me loose, all of you! And I was alone for so long and I’m sorry that I can’t find it in myself to hate him! I tried my best to stay away, I promise I did!!” He cried “But-but…he is the first grownup to see me…he doesn’t have to care, has no reason to…but he does ANYWAY! I KNOW ITS WRONG BUT…” a small sob escaped him as he took ragged breaths “I…I guess…I just…wanted…to know what it’s like…to not be alone anymore…even if it’s not real…even if it’s just for one tiny moment…”
Through the blur of his own tears, Spider saw the entire recom group stare at them, their ears pinned down in pity and shame overwhelmed him as he cursed and ran off, disappearing in the trees. No one dared to follow him.
Neteyam just stayed there, on the other hand, looking at the spot where his brother the blonde had stood, paralysed by the immense shame weighting down on his chest.
It was all his fault. He knew him all his life, he should have noticed, he should have seen that something was wrong, that the hurtful words and constant exclusion from the community stung no matter how well Spider hid it.
He should have fixed it.
He should have been there for him.
.
.
.
Author’s notes: Neteyam grasping with the fact that he had neglected Spider is low-key becoming my favorite thing ✨ I don’t usually write for him but tried my best to do it in character, especially with the whole "scolding Spider although he is older" thing. ALSO IM REALLY SORRY IF THIS WAS BADLY WRITTEN I TRIED REALLY HARD I SWEAR 😭😭😭
Should I make a part 2 where they talk it out tho? 🤨

anger issues (pt.3)
Tumblr media
STARRING. ao'nung x na'vi!reader
CONTAINING. fluff, established relationship (mates), no use of y/n, living together with ao'nung, time skips, mama ronal
WARNING(S). mentions of blood! mentions of violence!
WORD COUNT. 1.7k
synopsis: ao'nung's sudden change in attitude ends in a heated argument that lasted for days; cold shoulder, silent treatment, absolutely no interaction between you two. however, he couldn't risk you leave his life the longer you don't talk to each other so he pleads and asks you to give him another chance.
translation: marui pod - metkayinan shelter/house, skxawng - moron/idiot
Tumblr media
after the talk you and ao'nung had during breakfast, and after placing away your bowls.
you and ao’nung stepped out of your marui pod, making your way to his family’s pod. his mother ronal, your mentor in your healing duties; just finished up treating a na’vi as they stepped out.
you two immediately bow lightly signing your greetings to her with your fingers from your forehead outwards,
“good to see you two, what made you visit?” she asked approaching you two at the entrance of the hut, which made ao’nung slightly nervous at the thought of explaining what happened.
ao’nung did his best to swallow his nervousness and put on a brave face, however his mother immediately noticed giving him a lecture-like stare so he immediately spoke up. “mother, i must tell you something…” ronal tilts her head ushering him to continue with his words, eyes slightly widening as she glances to you a bit worriedly but then she suddenly smiled which ao'nung looked at her confused as what he was about to tell was definitely not something to smile about.
"are you with child?" ronal steps forward placing a gentle hand on your belly, as she gave you a small but bright smile. her actions immediately make you turn red and glance to the ground in embarrassment. ao'nung's eyes widen as well, but he smirked and coughed out a bit.
"no mother! she's not... not yet atleast..." ao'nung mutters the last part making you blush harder as giving him a side-eye and i nudge him hard in the ribs making him wince. "a-anyways, mother..." he continues.
his mother smirks at you teasingly, making you look down immediately to your feet as your ears twitch.
“i started an argument between us... and i am here to ask you for consultation and help. please let me improve my attitude.” he says cautiously as ronal’s eyes widen the more he spoke, her demeanor switching compared to a while ago making him feel small as soon as his mother approached him.
ronal definitely did not expect that, maybe she did because she was aware of ao'nung's attitude, but she never expected you to be the one who would experience it first hand.
ronal looks to you, her ears tilting downward. “my child… what happened?” she softly says as she brushes your hair lightly, and pats your head.
ronal invites you inside as you tell her what happened as she wanted to comfort you two, knowing how this could affect you two if anything went wrong or worse and as you tell exactly what happened her face flicked a variation of emotions glancing back between the two of you.
“alright, listen to me son. starting today i will be disciplining you into doing meditation and exercises to help you improve… this type of behavior is looked down upon. especially if you're mate is the one you happened to- which it is.” ronal trails off, placing a hand on her forehead continuing to explain to ao’nung.
seeing that ao’nung was listening attentively really made you happy that he’s really willing to improve himself for you.
Tumblr media
you’ve been picking up and dropping off ao’nung when he had to attend his sessions, which made him happy that you were doing that for him. during times you didn't have a shift to help with the injured you'd just wait and meditate at the shore or check out some seashells on the sand
Tumblr media
making your way to one of ronal’s treatment huts, to do your tsakarem duties. receiving and treating the injured na’vi hunters that came by. some arriving with major but not fatal wounds, while others with just light bruises or scratches that were easily patched up.
“you need to go to the emergency hut, now!” a worried hunter, which you recognized as one of ao’nung’s hunting companions that he usually hunts with; saying it in a panicked voice to you. you immediately wrap up the bandage on the hunter i was treating as they felt empathy and said that i can go.
you stood up to your feet, tossing whatever you were holding to somewhere in the hut as you swiftly ran outside, immediately heading to the emergency hut.
'please, please, be okay... oh eywa.' were the thoughts running in your head. as you felt so anxious about what could've happened
your heart broke at the sight of ao'nung on the floor. body bruised in multiple areas, blood dripping down to his ankles from a graze in his upper leg. but seeing he had the guts to smile nervously at you meant he was completely fine, and most likely got into a fight rather than getting injured from the hunt.
making a sound with my teeth as you inhaled simila, smacking his shoulder muttering a small 'you skxawng.' and being careful not to hit ao’nung’s bruised areas or wounds. as you felt the stares of other na’vi hunters who helped take your injured body here.
after bowing your respect and signing your fingers from your forehead, you motion your hand outwards to make them leave and give you and ao'nung privacy. you quickly make use of the supplies inside the hut. you grabbed the basket taking some woven-like gauze pads to stop your bleeding. adding pressure, ao’nung hissed at the pain.
“what happened? ...talk to me.” you asked him squeezing his hand, but he stayed silent avoiding your gaze as his ears went down, so you followed up: “fine. hope your wounds self-heal then—”,
”i was done with my hunting for today, and some of the hunters that are gonna be hunting tomorrow were talking about you…” ao'nung cut you mid-sentence.
”what did they say?” you softly asked, wiping more of his bleeding area to stop it. you wrapped his leg up gently after cleaning the wound.
ao'nung sighed deeply, his tail wagging slowly. "what did they say...?" you pleaded to know. ”that they were going to be the one to snatch you... if you leave me, and then i ended up scolding them; and they did it back to me and i ended up punching out of anger… got a bit heated since they were three, and here i am.”
you stayed silent, my ears turning down but your tail lightly swished which ao'nung noticed.
you sigh as your grip on the gauze pad loosened. you looked at him in an expression he never liked, and you grabbed some ointment to rub into the bruised areas to help him feel better.
“are you disappointed in me?” he asked in a tone as if he was almost whispering. ao'nung looked up to you with tears threatening to fall out, which you immediately smiled at and gently wiped using your hand without the ointment.
”for what? defending me? ...no. that was lovely to hear about." you start off. "but-" you say and got caught off by him asking a "but???" which you laughed at "but... losing control and punching first, yes i am. you should've just let them be, a scolding would've been more proper, or...” you said which caught him off-guard.
”i’m sorry… wait- what?” ao'nung asked a bit in disbelief if he heard you right, you weren't exactly disappointed in him getting into a fight... but more disappointed of being the first to punch?
”you should’ve taken a punch first, so it would be self-defense no matter how bad you beat them up…” you said which solved ao'nung's thoughts.
”...i didn’t think you’d be disappointed in that, my love.” he started to laugh, but slightly hissing as his abdomen tensed up from laughing which you inspected to have a bruise, hopefully no internal bleeding.
you lightly grazed your hand over the area, and thankfully he didn't react badly meaning it was just a bruise.
"you know... if word gets out. you might get in trouble with your mother if she hears about this." you tease him to which he nervously laughs and shook his head at.
"and come on, i bet they look worse." you proudly say, knowing how ao'nung is tough as he looks. which makes him proud and have him wagging his tail as he loved how your proud you sounded
Tumblr media
"so... have you thought about it?" ao'nung asks you as you start to unwrap his bandages to check his wound healing. you two were back at your house, came home together after you picked him up from a session. "about what?" you throw the bloody bandage to a basket to discard later on as you clean his wound, seeing that the skin is already regenerating beautifully.
"you know..." he trails off. "about what, ao?" you ask a bit sternly as you wrap a new on his wounded thigh.
"you know what i'm talking about, love..." he says as he trails a gentle hand on your thigh. as you look to his hand on you, you realized what he was referring to, you swat his hand away. as you stood up and crouch behind him to check the other bruises on his body.
"you're injured." ao'nung's ears perked up at your response, it wasn't a yes... but it definitely wasn't a no. "does that mean... i can?" he asks, wanting to hear a proper answer from you, as he lifts himself up to turn around and face you.
you laugh softly at his action, as you slowly nodded. in a second he already has a hand on your collarbone, but you quickly swat it again making him pout. "when you're all healed. what if your skin tears while we're at it?" you laugh at him, but he quickly shakes his head.
"if your mother knew that we... while you were injured i'd probably get demoted." you tease him,
"my skin will be fine." he replies instantly, "no." you reply, as he immediately sat properly, not wanting to touch you as you said, he sighed.
"alright, i'll make sure to get healed as soon as possible..." making you smile and pat his head, "i don't want you to still injured, so be patient." you say,
"you have my word, my love." you continued, as he whips his face up to look at you with wide eyes. he grabbed your hand in an instant, squeezing it gently.
"did you just-?" he asks, making you nod and laugh. "yes, my love?" you say it again, as he wraps his arms around you and peppers your face with kisses.
you two cuddled all night, as ao'nung was stoked hearing you call him 'my love' again. he was so determined to finish his sessions, and ofcourse... heal as soon as possible.

fluffy ZNoah drabble
Summary: it's just them training with gay tension and pining i cant come up with titles to save my life, sorry
Word count: 2212
[Edit: ok so i forgot to post this on ig, but then thought to edit it while i was here. nothing much changed, it even got 4 words shorter lol]
"I'm clocking out early today."
Kroi looked up from his work with genuine surprise. "But you're usually the last one out," he said.
Noah talked as they packed a small backpack with their water bottle and a change of clothes. They shrugged. "Z's giving me self-defense training or whatever."
"You agreed?"
"Shocked myself, too, actually." Noah slung a single strap over their left shoulder. "But she did have a point. She doesn't always come along for the school visits, and while the Na'vi are really skilled fighters, I guess it wouldn't be a bad thing if I were able to defend myself."
Grace emerged from the adjoined room. She looked oodly smug as she asked, "Is that the only reason?"
Noah raised a brow. "Should there be another?"
Kroi and Grace exchanged looks but said nothing. The latter smiled and patted Noah on the shoulder.
"Well, you've done enough at the lab today," she said, "Great work, as always."
The young scientist couldn't help but blush a bit, a bubble of pride swelling in their chest. They smiled. "Thanks, Grace."
"Alright, go get your strictly necessary training."
Kroi beamed, "See you at dinner, Noah!"
A slightly perplexed Noah waved goodbye as they left through the vacuum doors of the lab. They haven't told a soul, but they'd begun to notice the weird pattern of reaction whenever they mentioned the soldier to their friends, but Noah had never thought much of it, except that it was probably just a bunch of friendly yet fruitless teasing.
When the doors hissed to a close, then the other two scientists burst into lighthearted laughter.
"How are they so clueless," Kroi mused, "Z-Dog could outright tell Noah and they still wouldn't believe her."
"I made a bet with Dr. Patel that Noah might notice in two weeks."
The doctor mentioned chimed in from the other room, "You might as well hand me the money now, Dr. Augustine. That kid's never gonna notice that soldier girl's got a crush on them."
----------
Noah's phone buzzed incessantly while they were on their way to the SecOps wing, much to their annoyance. They already knew who was blowing their phone up and thought it better to just walk the entire way in relative peace. A few paces later, their phone still wouldn't shut up, so Noah yanked their phone out of their pocket and read the messages.
'u out yet?'
'where r u'
'hurry up im bored'
'stop ignoring my texts'
'damn u slow'
"Puta, ingay," Noah muttered to themselves as they punched in a response.
'omw :P'
'walk faster'
'no'
'oh i forgot'
'short legs ;)'
With a sharp click of the tongue, Noah quickly shoved their phone back in their pocket. The thought of just turning right back around and heading to their sleeping quarters instead seemed rather enticing now. As of late, Z had become bolder with teasing Noah around like that, and it's been driving them insane. The dumb jokes and that stupid laugh she made whenever she got a reaction out of Noah… All of it would be stuck in their head for hours, and Noah didn't know how to deal with it.
They started walking faster as they recognized the corridor leading to the SecOps training rooms. The volume of soldiers passing by was growing by the meter. Noah could feel the confused looks that some were throwing at them, while others, thankfully, seemed like they didn't give a crap about the scientist.
Noah looked closely at the room labels placed above the doors, trying to recall the room number Z had told them to go to—without much success.
Just how many training rooms do a bunch of these grease monkey musclebrains need?
Unfortunately, after racking their brain a bit more in vain, Noah had no choice but to ask Z. They were impatient enough as is, and they genuinely couldn't remember that tiny bit of information to save their life. They groaned as they pulled their phone back out of their pocket.
'room?'
'u forgot? :('
'nvm im going back'
Somewhere beside Noah, a bubblegum popped. "And, here I thought you were excited for training."
Noah jumped back a bit at Z just suddenly materializing in front of them. How did they not notice her?
Quickly composing themselves, Noah cleared their throat and said, "Stop playing games already. You were the one telling me to hurry up, weren't you?"
Z chuckled as she ruffled the scientist's hair. "Just wanted to see you sooner," she said, "Is that so wrong?"
Noah frantically pushed the hand off their head and looked around at the crowd in a panic. "Ugh, can you even hear yourself," they chided in hushed tones, "Just—! Let's just get to training already!"
They stormed off, and Z, knowing better, chased after Noah and pulled them along to the training room they'd be using, which was in the opposite direction that Noah was marching off to. Upon arrival, Noah checked first if it was empty. It was one of their conditions for this series of self-defense training with Z. The latter agreed, actually finding it ideal for her, too.
Satisfied that there was nary a human being in the room aside from them, Noah put their backpack down on a bench and plopped down beside it.
They looked up at Z expectantly. "So, what are we gonna do first," they asked.
Z stood across them, arms crossed under her chest. "First, have you ever had any sort of physical training before?"
Noah recounted their experiences on their fingers. "Failed high school phys-ed, used medical notes throughout college… Oh, and Kevin tried teaching me, but I guess I was a terrible student because I didn't learn shit."
"Oh, wow," Z chuckled, "We better get started then."
The soldier cocked her head towards the small black bin by the door and spat the gum in her mouth straight in. The small spectacle shouldn't have been of any note to Noah, but it was. The fact lingered in the back of their mind, but they did their best to not let it show.
"Warm-up first," Z said as she motioned Noah over to the mat, "Some basic stretches can't be too hard for you, right?"
Noah snickered, "Don't count on it yet."
"Alright, nerd. Just follow my lead."
Z started doing some basic stretches. Noah seemed to be following along okay, but they kept tumbling over or losing their balance. At some point, it concerned Z, and she stopped stretching. When she spared Noah a little exasperated stare, the scientist stood up and looked back at her, confused.
"What's wrong?"
"Do the stretch we just did."
Although their brow was still raised, Noah just shrugged, then went back into the stretch. Z walked around them, humming in thought. When she came back to her spot, she had her conclusion.
"Your posture sucks, Noah," she said, trying not to laugh.
Noah immediately straightened up and clutched their braids, their eyes averted from Z in embarrassment in a fruitless attempt to hide their blushing face and ears. "Stop fucking giggling, you pinhead," they retorted, "It's not that bad!"
"Dude," the soldier wheezed, "It's why you keep falling over. It is that bad."
Noah twisted on their heel and began to storm off when Z caught their shoulders, then pulled them back towards the mat. "Don't just give up like that, idiot," she chuckled, "I didn't say I wouldn't help you."
"Still took a fucking sweet time to mock me, though," they huffed as they were dragged.
Z let them settle their feet back on the mat. "Alright, now do the stretch again."
"No."
"Noah."
"Ugh, fine."
A snarl and a string of curses came through as Noah redid the stretch. Z told them to relax as she went behind them and started correcting Noah's stance. But when she went to try and hold onto Noah's side, they jerked back and made a noise between a squeak and a yelp.
Noah, absolutely mortified, looked back at Z. It took the soldier a few seconds to process what she'd just heard.
"Was that… Was that you?"
Noah could feel their ears burning as frustration and humiliation created chaos within them. "You didn't fucking hear that!"
Z absolutely heard it, and she was suddenly in hysterics. "Noah, you're ticklish? Hah!"
"Shut the fuck up!"
"Oh my god. That's just cute," Z smirked, "Who would've thought?"
Noah thought their ticklishness was something stupid, embarrassing, and totally unbecoming of them — but never 'cute'. That tiny comment echoed in Noah's head, as well as the loud pounding of their heart. It felt extremely weird that, no matter how hard they thought, they couldn't come up with anything to snark back at Z with. So they just stood there, stunned, hair pulled over their reddened ears. The same couldn't be done to hide their face though, as it burned a deep, cherry red.
"You're blushing," the soldier teased.
Noah hissed, "I know that!"
Z's laughter trailed into a softer chuckle, then she asked, "How sensitive are you?"
Silence.
Z put a hand on her waist, looking expectantly at Noah. "I'm not trying to tease. I'm asking so I know how to help you in training."
Noah answered reluctantly, "It's really bad when I'm taken by surprise, like what you did just now. But I think if I see it coming…  it wouldn't bother me as much."
Having absorbed that little bit of information, Z went behind Noah again. As she guided them into the right position, she'd tell Noah beforehand if she was going to touch them and where. Noah still jerked back on reflex, but they tolerated the annoying tingling sensations until they actually eased into a sense of comfort. The feeling of Z's firm, heavy grip lingered on the areas she would touch, and it rendered Noah quite complacent to the soldier's instructions and helplessly flustered from the tiniest bits of praise.
When they got through the warm-up, Noah could barely feel their muscles burning over the heat they felt in their face. As soon as Z stepped away from them, Noah ran to the bench and chugged their water, purposefully turned away from Z as they mentally tried to calm themselves down.
It wasn't working that well.
"If you were that thirsty, you could've told me," Z said, both teasing and concerned. "And, don't drown yourself."
Noah drank almost the entire bottle of water and was panting as if they'd run a marathon when they put the tumbler down. They wiped away any stray water trails with the back of their hand, then turned back around to face Z.
"What's next," they huffed, expression steeled as if they weren't blushing crazily just moments ago.
Cute, Z thought. She stifled her laughter out of consideration for Noah's determination. "Alright, we'll start with the basics: just punching and kicking. Nothing too complicated"
An hour later, Noah was lying spread-eagled on the mat, drenched in sweat and eyes closed as they struggled to catch their breath. Every muscle in their body was screaming and Noah listened to their plea. They stayed still on the mat while Z looked on.
She snickered, "So, want to move on to lesson 2?"
Noah raised a middle finger at her, only for it to drop back down on the mat. They earned a hearty laugh from the soldier.
Z got her tumbler and Noah's towel from their bag, then handed both items to them, whom she had to pull up to a sitting position. They flung the towel on their head and started chugging down the bottle. It was empty in seconds.
"Ah, shit," they muttered, frowning at the empty bottle. Then they looked up at Z, their gaze soft and apologetic. "Sorry about that."
Z sat beside them. "Nah, it's fine," she said, "I've got an extra bottle in my bag."
"I'm real shitty at this physical stuff," Noah sighed. Training was rough, but halfway through it , they actually started having fun. They had to admit—and they really didn't expect it—their teacher was a pretty good one. But they couldn't help but feel bad about being so crap at following her directions at times.
Z laughed, "Yeah, you are." She patted Noah on the back and smiled. "But, you did good today. Tripped a few times, but hey, baby steps, right?"
Noah lightened up at the comment. "Right," they nodded. "Oh, by the way, I've got a pack of bubblegum in my bag. It's your favorite."
"You remember my favorite bubble gum flavor?"
"Uh, yeah, 'cus you're never not chewing on one."
Z suddenly tackled Noah into a headlock, laughing loudly as they tried to squirm out from under her arm to no avail.
"Isn't that sweet of you," she chuckled.
"Gago, bitawan mo nga 'ko!" [T/N: Let go of me!]
They tried pushing her off, but Noah's arms were twigs in strength compared to Z's. Yet as they cursed out the soldier, Noah was grinning and laughing along with her. Eventually, Z loosened her arm around their neck, and rested it over their shoulder. They didn't try to remove it.
"Same time tomorrow," they asked.
"You don't mind?"
Noah shook their head. Z grinned.
"It's a date, then."
