That scene from the fourth book in the Shamer Chronicles by Lene Kaaberboel, which has owned my whole heart for as long as I can remember

Lil' context for people who might not have read the Shamer Chronicles:

Dina (the girl) is of a family where all the women have the power to look people in the eye and make them feel shame/relive their most shameful moments. This usually makes them judges and revered wise women, but in a time where war and fascism starts to tear her world apart she and her family are hunted as witches or kidnapped and used against their will to break people.

As a result most people are too afraid to look her in the eye and it takes a special someone to overcome their own shame and look at them with familial care and love.

Enter Tano, who is a former Thrall/slave that Dina was forced to break because he kept preaching workers' rights to his lord - but who was so stubborn he and Dina ended up breaking each other. Quite literally. She spends the next couple of books unable to use her powers properly and spending time with people that reinforce the idea that she's a monster or a witch.

Until she meets Tano at the end of the story once more and they begin to stubbornly rebuild each other's self esteem and eventually caring deeply about each other, enabling Dina to do the impossible, casting shame upon an entire army and making grown men curl up and cry xD

If you read all this thank you! It's a really beautiful story of self-love, pride and appropriate shame, and I cannot recommend it enough !

Just watched the Shamer's Daughter and the sequel, and there is an ABYSAMLLY small fandom. And the vibe I got is that the books are better??? This content deserves more love guys!

OKAY FIVE BOOKSBAREBACK (or Benighted, depending on where you buy it) by KIT WHITFIELD it's a wonderful book, even though the storytelling can be a bit weird every now and then but it's one of my favorite modern fantasy things ever: 99.9% of the world population are werewolves, and 0.01% aren't and that 0.01% is discriminated against for being barebacks and for representing law during the full moon when everybody else is a werewolf - it's actually super interesting to read!!! CARTE BLANCHE by JEFFREY DEAVER aka the James Bond book from... 2011? Like it's sometimes a bit tedious to read too because of the style he writes in but IT'S SO WONDERFUL AND I PRAY AND HOPE THAT BOND #25 WILL BE BASED ON THIS BOOK OK IT HAS TO THERE IS NO OTHER WAY - no but seriously it's an amazing book and I strive to be as good a writer and the way I tried to weave intrigue and mind fuck with my readers in Swallow Your Soul was largly inspired by this wonderful book. Also you don't have to know a lot about the former Bond books to understand the plot! NORTH CHILD by EDITH PATTOUinspired by the when the sun rises in the west and the moon sets in the east legend about a prince turned into a polar bear and troll queens and ice hearts. definitely worth a read if you want fantasy bc it's amazing and wonderful and I love it so muchTHE SHAMER CHRONICLES by LENE KAABERBØL It's a quadrilogy of wonderful fantasy books which start out from one POV of 11 year old Dina Tonerre who has the gift of 'shaming' aka she looks into your eyes and sees every single thing you are ashamed of and basically everything you've ever done and shit goes down and her brother and sister and mom get in trouble and they're all super young and DRAGONS and STRONG WOMEN CHARACTERS and two masculine figures that are polar opposites (Nicodemus x Davin should totes be a thing lemme tell you Nicodemus, the disgraced Prince accused of patricde/regicide who threw his sword in the lake bc he didn't like swords and Davin the brother who will fight because he has no choice and y'all this is fantastic) and FAMILY and y'all this is a+ read it if you can get your hands on itA SONG OF ICE AND FIRE by GEORGE R. R. MARTINLike I know it's game of thrones but like the BOOKS are GOLD they're awesome and great and LONG and INTERESTING and better than the show and if you want to you should totes read them bc it'll keep you busy for a long time!!!
