I honestly range from Hartnell, Little or Fitzjames depending on the day or if I'm with my mates...

Idk I just think it’s so interesting how Hickey uses names and titles as a tool to manipulate the people around him (especially the mutineers). Calling Tozer “sergeant” when he’s first convincing him to mutiny, to play into his desire to follow his rank and protect. Switching to “Solomon” when he’s trying to get Tozer to open up more about the Tuunbaq. Intentionally not calling Jopson “Lieutenant” after his promotion as a subtle dig. How often he says Billy’s name, especially during the ring scene and when Billy’s entertaining the idea of a mutiny before the walk out (“speak your mind, Billy”). Smugly directing his story about kidnapping Silna to “Captain Crozier” and only Captain Crozier, then after kidnapping him only referring to him as “Mr. Crozier” and making the mutineers do the same (but Hodgson, who’s not loyal but is at least complacent to Hickey, stays “Lieutenant Hodgson”). Calling Tommy, who’s always Tommy or Mr. Armitage, “Private Armitage” when he’s ordering him to brutalize Crozier, because Hickey knows he’s always wanted to be a marine, so in his camp he’s given him the rank of one. It adds an such an interesting layer to Hickey’s “reconfigure, reinvent, rearrange” speech.

i've thought it over and i think the funniest part of "the terror" (book) is in franklin's pov when gore's group is heading out and goodsir wants to join and franklin's thinking to himself like "he's skinny and has ridiculous sideburns and has an effeminate air about him. kinda faggy. i don't like him. hope he dies out there"

Who are your muses best friends?
Arthur's best friends are: @bertievi's George VI; @admiraltyspride's Lord Nelson; @ageofxail's Daniel/America (husband!!!), Noel/England & Royal Navy; my Jack/London; & @xbasilrp's Toni/Spain (spicy boyfriend).
Not quite besties but very close platonically (unless otherwise noted) are @terrorcaptain's Crozier (very father-son tbh); Thera at @therapardalis; Mycroft at @governmentofficial (also husband!); @hope-on-hope-ever's John Franklin (friends/colleagues in general but also estranged father and bastard son in THAT ONE AU); endearingly fond of @imprvdente's Fish; & Pris at @herstoriies
@honorhearted gets an honorable (ha!) mention because of how complicated Ben and Art's relationship is. Arthur admires Ben but also wants to punch him in the nose. Arthur enjoys punching things though, so take that with a whole spoon of salt. He genuinely wants the Americans to win and believes Ben to be a properly good man--part of the reason he razzes Ben like he does is because there's really no other way (in Art's opinion) to try and shake Ben out of seeing the war as a largely black and white problem. He sees a lot of himself in Ben--they are both educated, stubborn, hot-headed, and courageous in stupid ways, and they both have a heart. Arthur doesn't want to see America get its start as a country with all of the kindness burned out of all its founders. They are... complicated.
I don't like to go godmode people, but Art's "default" is that he is besties with Portugal, France, India, U.S. America. However, I handle that on a case-by-case basis because, again, it would be shitty of me to force that decision on other writers.
Goodsir's besties are: The Henry Collins that lives in my head; @tooxldtorememxer's John Irving; @herstoriies' Priscilla (big fat crush on her too tbh!!!!!); @therapardalis; @terrorcaptain; Silna at @tatteredxsails; @bertievi of course; he's also pretty close with @ageofxail's Noel; & @imprvdente's Fish; & he has........ complicated feelings about @honorhearted's Ben.
Thomas Blanky's besties are: @wantsusdead's Francis (I mean we just started threading but LISTEN-); oh also @terrorcaptain's Francis (+ husband); he's also super fond of @admiraltyspride too; can't forget about the Sidebear, thank u @tatteredxsails; & if I get my way he's going to continue to 'Dad' at @imprvdente!!!!!
The Railroad Man has no besties because he's an abject piece of sh oh wow, Moriarty actually!! @multipleoccupancy

Reasons why Goodsir is Unlikely to have initially Inspired Confidence amongst the Ratings
Least experienced medical professional
Not a weathered naval man
Is the one to perform autopsies (no one wants to be cut open after death!)
Autopsied John Hartnell wrong
Was with David Young when he died screaming out in fear
Undermined the confidence the men got from Des Voeux's 'shoot it in the head and carve it up for supper' with his worrisome 'and if it's not alone?'
Couldn't save Silna's father (and wanted to try. See also: racism)
Made the men put the charms back, which were later realised to be probably quite important
Wanted a chaperone lol get a load of this guy he's scared of a bear
Chose to go to Terror with Silna rather than stay with the majority of men on Erebus (also after spending a lot of time with her)
Was the one who took over feeding Jacko, who died in agony not long after
Energy full of panic/not as practiced at hiding uneasiness or concern from the crew/not as stoic

Goodsir: Are you alright? Are you warm enough? Good lord you're probably working too hard, do remember self-care when you have a chance, perhaps have some soup.
Hodgeson: I think I'm unwell
Goodsir: You are indeed and i'm prescribing 800mg of Shut The Hell Up

Starter for @honorhearted!
---
Harry had been in camp for some months now, just over half a year. He was well-liked--or as liked as a British surgeon could be within Washington's camp--and he had made it a point to go out of his way to help where and when he could, and was permitted to do so. To those whose lives he had saved or bettered in some manner, he often served as a sort of confessor in their recovery. It was a most unusual situation to be in, for sure, and so his role seemed to take on a life of its own rather than remain confined to a typical young surgeon's duties.
"Good day, Major Tallmadge," Harry smiled softly, flanked by the escort of a single infantry guard. He had wanted very much to speak to the Major, and given Harry's immaculate record of good and helpful behavior, such a request was not out of the question. They stood in front of Ben's tent as the early autumn wind picked up and fluttered the leaves around them, tussling Harry's dark curls.
"May I have a word, Sir?"
