El pasado 15 de noviembre, Baloísa Marquínez, Jueza Tercera Liquidadora de Causas Penales del Primer Circuito Judicial de Panamá emitió la resolución mediante el cual se abría causa criminal contra más de 20 personas por el caso conocido como Blue Apple.

A continuación, le compartimos la lista con los nombres de las personas que fueron llamadas a juicio por este caso y los delitos por los cuales están enfrentando la justicia.

World Bank: Digital Drive & Latin America's Inclusive Growth

  Progress and Challenges in the Region

As Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) look back on decades of progress in macroeconomic resiliency and successful navigation through multiple post-pandemic crises, a new report from the World Bank sheds light on a persistent issue: the region's growth, while commendable, is still insufficient to tackle poverty and unemployment effectively. Fiscal constraints further hinder the necessary investments. However, the report titled "Wired: Digital Connectivity for Inclusion and Growth" suggests that embracing digital connectivity, alongside complementary policies, could usher in dynamic and inclusive societies.   Slow Growth and Ambitious Goals The report predicts that the regional GDP will grow by 2.0% in 2023, a slight improvement from the previous projection of 1.4%. Nonetheless, this growth still lags behind other global regions. Projections for 2024 and 2025 are slightly higher at 2.3% and 2.6%, respectively. However, these figures, reminiscent of the 2010s, may not suffice to make substantial progress in reducing poverty and fostering inclusion.  

Calls for Urgent Action

Carlos Felipe Jaramillo, World Bank Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean, acknowledges the region's resilience in the face of post-pandemic shocks but underscores the persistently lackluster growth. He emphasizes the urgent need for countries to prioritize inclusion and growth, enhance governance, and build social consensus. Jaramillo sees digital solutions as integral to the equation, as they complement structural reforms, boost productivity, enhance service delivery, and improve government efficiency.   Economic Reforms and Global Challenges Over the past three decades, Latin America and the Caribbean have implemented substantial macroeconomic reforms that have bolstered their resilience to external shocks. This resilience was evident during the multiple post-pandemic crises, including challenges arising from inflation, Ukraine war-related uncertainty, soft commodity prices, and escalating debt. While some hurdles persist, poverty and employment levels have generally returned to pre-pandemic norms. Inflation, excluding Argentina and Venezuela, stands at a regional average of 4.4%, lower than that of OECD countries.  

Navigating a Complex Global Landscape

Despite some improvements, the global context remains challenging, marked by high-interest rates, sluggish growth in advanced economies, and uncertainty regarding China's prospects. Governments in the region continue to grapple with fiscal constraints. The debt-to-GDP ratio, though lower at 64% compared to 67% a year ago, still exceeds the 2019 level of 57%. Additionally, high-interest rates have increased the burden of debt service.   The Role of Digital Connectivity William Maloney, Chief Economist for Latin America and the Caribbean at the World Bank, highlights the potential of private and public investment in digital connectivity to stimulate new sectors, jobs, and trade. He emphasizes that it can also enhance government programs, from education to agricultural extension. However, Maloney cautions that digital connectivity alone is not a panacea for growth and could exacerbate existing inequalities if not coupled with investments in skills, finance, and regulatory systems.  

Bridging the Digital Divide

To harness the advantages of the digital economy and promote better governance, the report identifies gaps and opportunities in digitalization:   Addressing Infrastructure Gaps The report highlights that while mobile internet access is widespread, there remains a coverage gap, with 7% of the population (45 million people) lacking access to mobile broadband networks. Fixed internet is present in 74% of urban households but only 42% of rural households. Quality issues persist, with 55% of connected households reporting low-quality services. Addressing these disparities requires both technological and institutional innovations to facilitate widespread internet access.   Overcoming Usage Barriers Approximately 38% of the population (240 million people) lives in areas with internet coverage but choose not to connect. High costs, lack of awareness about the advantages of connectivity, and unfamiliarity with digital platforms contribute to this choice. To close these gaps, it's imperative to tackle affordability issues and expand digital skills.   Beyond Access: Complementary Investments Access to broadband alone is insufficient; people need the tools and capabilities to seize digital opportunities. Critical areas for action include strengthening digital and traditional human capital skills, ensuring financing availability, and establishing efficient government protocols and a supportive regulatory framework.   Governance for Efficiency Digital tools can make governments more responsive, efficient, and inclusive. Reducing transaction costs particularly benefits remote and disadvantaged segments of society. Leveraging digital networks and tools can help recover as much as 4% of GDP currently lost to inefficiencies in public expenditures and spending leakages.   Sources: THX News & World Bank Report. EN 3 Y 2: INDIOS CEDEN ANTE ALGODONEROS; SERIE REGRESA A CIUDAD JUÁREZ

Ciudad Delicias, Chih., domingo 13 de agosto de 2024.-En una muy desafortunada noche para el pitcheo indígena que vio desfilar a ocho lanzadores sobre la lomita de los disparos, departamento que tampoco contó con el respaldo a la hora buena de su ofensiva que dejó 12 corredores en los senderos, los Indios de Ciudad Juárez sucumbieron ayer 10 carreras a cuatro ante los Algodoneros de Delicias, en las semifinales de la Liga Estatal MEXBET 2023

Con el revés, los peloteros indígenas están ahora abajo en la serie dos triunfos por tres derrotas y, el próximo viernes 18 del mes en curso, a las 19:45 horas, en el Estadio Juárez, tratarán de empatar la batalla a tres éxitos por bando para forzar a un séptimo y definitivo duelo que determinará al rival de los finalistas Dorados de Chihuahua.

A diferencia de lo ocurrido en los duelos tres y cuatro, disputados el jueves y viernes en el Gran Estadio Delicias, en Delicias, Chihuahua, los Algodoneros pegaron primero y tomaron la ventaja en el juego con un par de rayitas anotadas en la misma primera entrada.

Con Iván Gándara, Aarón sillas y Alexis Sáenz en los senderos, el bateador designado Alonso Mendoza conectó profundo elevado al jardín derecho y en pisa y corre Gándara timbró la rayita de la quiniela para los ‘Vencedores del Desierto’.

El abridor y derrotado Felipe Castañeda, quien a todas luces no salió en su noche, propinó golpe a Carlos Rubio y con la casa llena otorgó pasaporte a Alberto Rodríguez.

De este modo, ‘de caballito’, Sillas anotó la segunda rayita deliciense impulsada para Rodríguez y el score se movió 2-0 a favor de la novena anfitriona.

Abajo en el pizarrón, los Indios regresaron al juego y, en la apertura del tercer inning anotaron la carrera del descuento.

Cristian Renova y Julio Pacheco recibieron pasaportes consecutivos del abridor zurdo Carlos Valenzuela, Carlos ‘Hulk’ Díaz se ponchó para el primer out, Yahir Gurrola  conectó infield hit a la tercera, en una jugada en la que Carlos Rubio no se pudo quedar con la esférica.

Valenzuela cometió wild pitch con el cuarto lleno, Renova entró a la registradora y acercó a la tribu 2-1.

Eudor García abanicó la brisa para el segundo mate, Víctor Ruiz recibió base por bolas del relevista José Alberto ‘Burris’ Gutiérrez.

De nuevo con las colchonetas congestionadas, Miguel Rodríguez rodó a la intermedia para el tercer out y los indígenas desperdiciaron la gran oportunidad de armar un rallie.

Frente al relevista Daniel Vega, quien tampoco contó con buena fortuna, Mendoza abrió la tanda en el tercer episodio con doble entre central e izquierdo, batazo que envió a as regaderas al pitcher sinaloense.

Gabriel Aguilar dominó con línea al derecho a Carlos Rubio para el primero fuera, concedió cuatro bolas malas a A. Rodríguez y permitió sencillo productor de Erick Sagarnaga, quien envió al pentágono a Mendoza con la tercera anotación algodonera.

Aguilar, quien tampoco cumplió con una buena labor, bajó del montículo y fue relevado por el refuerzo José Ángel ‘Serafo’ Hernández.

Con dos compañeros a bordo, el jardinero Joel Flores rodó a la intermedia, donde el infield juarense forzó a Sagarnaga.

Ya con dos outs, Hernández fue sacudido con un doble de Omar Jaramillo, quien empujó a Rodríguez y a Flores y aumentó la ventaja algodonera, cinco carreras pór una.

En la parte baja del cuarto rollo, Rubio impulsó con sencillo a Sillas y gracias a un elevado al central de A. Rodríguez, el catcher ‘Oso’ Sáenz anotó en pisa y corre la séptima carrera de los actuales tricampeones estatales.

Arriba 7-1, los delicienses sumaron dos carreras más a su cuenta en la parte baja del quinto capítulo con batazo productor de Luis Fernando Rodríguez quien impulsó a Flores.

En rola para doble play de Sillas, Jaramillo anotó la novena rayita para la causa algodonera que abrió la brecha para su tercera victoria en la serie semifinal.

Los Indios recortaron la diferencia en el score con un doble productor de Carlos ‘Hulk’ Díaz entre el prado izquierdo y central con el que Renova y Pacheco timbraron las carreras dos y tres de la tribu.

Después que los relevistas Édgar Martínez, Mario Macías y Andrés Ledezma bajaron la cortina, los Algodoneros remacharon el éxito con la décima anotación producida por Jaramillo.

El outfielder remolcó al pelotero menor Flores, quien se embasó con un limpio triple ante los lanzamientos del zurdo Ángel Octavio Mendoza.

Con un out, en el último turno al bat de la tribu, frente a Carlos Castañeda, el catcher Víctor Ruiz atizó jonrón solitario, produjo la cuarta carrera aborigen y colocó la pizarra final, 10-4 favorable a los Algodoneros.
