“Best of Original Cartoons”
Best of Original Cartoons P... by Fred Seibert
When I left Frederator and set up FredFilms a few years ago I updated the Best of Frederator book we published. And then, I either did new editions or updates of all nine (as of now) of our promotional books. You can check them out as the ‘FredFilms Professional Library.’ Each of them is available as a downloadable PDF, or you can get hard copies at Amazon and Bookshop.
There are posters, cartoon sketches and full color artwork, jokes, some incredible graphics,  and lots and lots of postcards. In the ‘Best of Original Cartoons,’ there’s some of each.
Hope you enjoy them.

Network Branding 1988-1990 The Best of Original Cartoons
TV Heaven and HA! TV Comedy Network
Fred/Alan, Inc. New York
For a quick minute in the late 1980s, Nickelodeon's ad sales group could not sell Nick-at-Nite advertising ("no one wants black and white reruns!"), so they decided they'd promote themselves as a comedy network.
So, my Fred/Alan partner Alan Goodman and I brought our original idea of TV oldies to a broken down UHF channel in St.Cloud, Minnesota, and renamed Channel 47 "TV Heaven." We got more publicity in three weeks than Nick-at-Nite got three years. Nick-at-Nite parent MTV Networks threatened to fire us from all their networks and we had to resign TV Heaven.
But not before we made some awesome station identifications with our indie animation friends.
In 1990, MTV Networks revived the idea of an all comedy network in a panic after HBO launched the Comedy Channel. Fred/Alan convinced MTVN to brand theirs as HA! The TV Comedy Network, and we went to work.
(Neither The Comedy Channel or HA! succeeded and they merged, Fred/Alan named the venture "Comedy Central" and the rest is comedy television history.)

VH-1: Video Hits One 1989
Best of Original Cartoons
Fred/Alan, Inc. New York
VH1 has struggled for years for an identity, and even more, for a successful programming format. Fred/Alan worked with them from their launch in 1985, through at least three or four failed iterations until Alan and I closed the company in 1992.
The one purely hand drawn, 2D animation we did forT them was in 1989. Fred/Alan creative director Bill Burnett had a fantastic idea. The target audience was baby boomers (like Bill, Fred and Alan were) and one of the baby boom media icons was the satire and humor publication MAD Magazine. Bill engaged their classic comic illustrator Don Martin to storyboard a VH1 commercial to a score that included the last chord of The Beatles' masterpiece "A Day in the Life."
Did it work? Creatively, that's a big "yes." Ratings? Not so much. And so it goes.

Introducing! The FredFilms Professional Library
There’s nothing like a book!
As you can imagine, after over a lifetime of producing cartoons I’ve amassed a pretty extensive archive of amazing art. I’ve tried to share a lot of it on social media, but you know, there’s nothing like a book. And, as a collector of books of pop culture collections* I figured that maybe I’d add to my own stacks.
Every once in a while I get the urge to organize some of the material, and because of the magic of printing-on-demand**, voilà! The FredFilms Professional Library.
Below you’ll find descriptions the first seven books in our library. Because on-demand color printing can be expensive, I’ve also included PDFs for each of them.
* My bookshelves include more record cover anthologies than you can imagine, almost as many movie poster books, pop music posters, lots of photography,  T-shirt books, condom containers... I’ll stop now.
** I use Amazon’s print-on-demand paperbacks. Many of us would prefer not to use Amazon whenever possible (unlike Google’s assertion, Amazon does not claim to not be evil) –personally, if I can’t shop locally, I use my local store’s Bookshop.org site– but the truth is that it’s easiest for most people to use Amazon.

"The Art of Wubbzy" by Bob Boyle and the Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! Artists Book PDF
The Art of Wubbzy
Bob Boyle first created Wubbzy as a picture book for young kids. We’d first worked together on Oh Yeah! Cartoons where he was first a storyboard revisionist, then a creator, and finally art director and producer on my first spin off series, Butch Hartman’s The Fairly OddParents. My Wubbzy production partner, Susan Miller, and Nick Jr. head Brown Johnson, loved it more than our publishing partner (who chose another project of Bob’s to release) and it was reborn as a hit TV series.
Bob’s a collector of small vinyl toys which was clear in his initial Wubbzy designs and as he and his team came up with more and more distinct drawings for the series we got the bright idea of putting together a promotional book of a few hundred.
“The Art of Wubbzy” deserved a wider audience –I knew artists around the world would be attracted like flies to honey– so I’ve reissued the original book as #8 in The FredFilms Professional Library. You can scroll through the entire book up above or pick it up through Amazon.
