HC; Scala Ad Caelum.
If there was one place that managed to be disturbingly pristine for Sora's adventures, it'd be in the location where one of the greatest battles of his life took place. What managed to capture him while in the process of trying to process the hellish extents he endured and continue to press through, it's how violently adjacent to the destructive chaos that Xehanort wanted to enact on them all.
Stepping into the old Master's most precious memory, how through experience and resolve, the location feels more dead than alive. This is what leads to his encounter with the replicas as the most uncomfortable fight he's ever dealt with.
At their best, they felt like recorded and empowered apparitions made by Xehanort's hand, used to display the very powers he stole without the need for heart or soul. And at the worst, it felt like he was Heartless that were more man than monster at that point. It was the sheer lack of how it all registers within this location that disturbs him, similar to being frozen in time.
Places like End of the World, or Xemnas's World of Emptiness, they at least held the life of their ambition fueling either the dark dissent or the vast emptiness they attempt to embody. Something human could scarcely be perceived.
Sora would get no such sensation when going against that haunted armor and apparitions fashioned by Xehanort's side. As their destruction through battle comes to let calamity befall this memory, it gets a bit more real, more haunting, the sort of heaviness as if he's cleaving through entities that were forcefully forsaken by time's river itself. Life... to the Keybearer, life was not supposed to work like that.
It's one of those battles that he'd come to get nightmares about the easiest. The silent arrival, the lifeless way they'd carry themselves, as if being puppeted by a force that worked alongside of Xehanort's control instead of being fully by his head. When it he fights the reunited armor alongside of Kairi at the end of Re:Mind.
Tumblr media
It makes a bit more sense in one aspect.
Whatever that was? It was an enemy that might've been lurking throughout time and space, surrounding them for a lot longer than he's ever come to realize.
..And truthfully? Sora is getting the idea this is the time of their advent.
Was it another force of the Darkness that seamlessly rivaled Xehanort in power?

ADVENT CALENDAR LAST DAY!!!
Story A
I warned you that it was pure self indulgence on my part, lol.  I would have loved to have seen Dickie included in the reboot universe so this kind of happened. I rolled up my sleeves and threw her in there myself.   I thought that if she went to university in Duckburg she would probably need a place to stay - at least for a while.  Of course I have my headcanons as to her background but I wanted to keep it open ended here so everyone can enjoy the story with their own hcs intact.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Story B
I’ve had this one in mind ever since seeing ‘Golden Lagoon’ for the first time and thinking ‘Wait, claim?!?  What claim?!?’ and then of course, they never mentioned it again.  Pfft.  Time to get to work and sort that then.  This story is also open ended on purpose.  It gives me an excuse to send them both off on another adventure together in the Klondike.  Not that I ever need an excuse for a story like that.  😁
So, this might be the end of this wee comic, but NOT the end of these stories.
Tumblr media
Finally my last Scroldie gift for the holiday.  The eventual end to BOTH stories once these two finally get two seconds to themselves.
Tumblr media
Thank you again for all of your great comments that have kept me going and thank you for coming along for the ride.  Happy holidays to everyone and I hope you’ve enjoyed this advent comic calendar as much as I have putting it together!!
Finally the whole story together at last!

In Clouds and Moonlit skies verse, what happens with dissidia? (I hope i spelt that right)
Hmmmmm oh dear. I ... TRIED to make this cheerful and silly but it turned out pure angst and Tifa ran away with it. Sorry?
-Cloud still gets called, but of course now he’s Prompto Argentum. Sephiroth is also called, but naturally he’s Titus now. Noctis/Zack doesn’t remember doing this ever anyway so he’s mostly chill with this. New adventure! With Cloudy! Yay! Oh wait where’s his pretty girlfriend noooooo.
-Nobody recognizes either Titus or Prompto and treat them like newbies. Titus rolls with it because frankly he doesn’t like these people anyway and doesn’t care what they think. Prompto is ... very subdued. More than usual. People are very confused as to why they are all here but Cloud is a no-show.
-It physically hurts Prompto to breathe a little when Zidane bounds up to innocently ask if he’s scene a short brooding blond with a giant sword and a wolf ornament on his shirt. It hurts. It HURTS far more than he ever thought it would, to see these people he fought beside look at him like he’s a stranger. It shouldn’t. They aren’t from the same worlds, and it’s only to be expected, he isn’t Cloud anymore after all, but Prompto. But it still hurts. If he calls out to any of them they won’t know him. It smacks too much of his nightmares and Noctis ends up holding him tight as they hide in the back row, fielding any questions with a cheerful smile that wins smiles in return.
-It guts him to spot Tifa in the crowd. Because Materia calls champions without any real care for timeline, and so while she cannot call Cloud’s past self because his soul is no longer in the Lifestream, she CAN call Tifa as well apparently and it HURTS more than words can say.
-Prompto and Noctis stick together stubbornly, so they end up not following the Warrior of Light around. They end up going with someone else- *spins imaginary wheel* TIFA, because apparently she got added to the game later and I feel like torturing my characters.
-Tifa is a little worried on why Cloud is not present when he apparently was last time, but these two boys are ... nice, and someone more experienced has to keep an eye on them. Noctis reminds her of a puppy, bounding around, eager to explore and help Materia. Prompto reminds her a LOT of Cloud, and when she tries to make friends by commenting that he reminds her of a good friend, she’s surprised when his breath stutters and his face shuts down. He chokes out a shy grunt and then hurries to catch up with Zack, leaving Tifa confused.
-Prompto has never been more relieved to run into enemies. If he’s fighting then he doesn’t have to try and fail to talk to his friend who doesn’t recognize him (is younger than he remembers, because he remembers her as a mother, a grandmother, as a old feisty woman with silver hair and a fire that didn’t dim despite her arthritis, the old woman who comforted him about his own conspicuously slow aging when he realized that for every year he seemed to age, his friends had already aged ten or more, another horrible unwanted side effect of Hojo’s experiments). Of course, he doesn’t count on his fighting style, or Tifa’s own observational skills. He has enough presence of mind to not use his fusion sword, instead pulling a regular great sword from armiger, but ... still.
-Tifa (who is post Advent Children btw) watches Prompto as he fights and is ... unnerved by how similar their styles are, the power in a deceptively tiny frame, the unnaturally fast strikes, the bullheaded doggedness. Then she notices his blue eyes that glitter like stars in the dimmer lights, his black clothing for all he’s wearing that plaid ... skirt thing, the ribbon tied around his arm.
-She keeps her thoughts to herself for most of the adventure, just gently tries to coax Prompto out of his shell with minimal success and wondering where Sephiroth is and why this newcomer Titus seems so protective of the boys despite being on the other side. In the end she lets Prompto wander away with Noctis to chat with the other newcomers like Y’shtola, because he doesn’t seem nearly as shy around the other newbies as the ones who are obviously more experienced and she doesn’t want to make him uncomfortable. Not that he doesn’t interact with the older members, but there’s a distance to him with them, like he’s shy, or like he expects them to say something and dreads it when it never comes.
-Then the fight with the planesgorger happens and in the heat of it, Prompto has no choice but to use his skills to their fullest, and Tifa catches sight of him in the chaos, twisting over Exdeath’s head with the Fusion Sword in his hands, splitting it into all sorts of blades and something in her brain goes “click”.
-After the fight, when everyone is saying their goodbyes and gear up to have crystal double made, Tifa sneaks up behind Prompto and starts a casual conversation again, then when his guard is as low as she thinks it’s going to go, she adds, “I guess it’s pretty weird to see me so young, huh?”
-Prompto laughs ruefully, “Just a little-.” freezes, looks at her with something horrified and fragile in his gaze.
-Tifa smiles and says, “It’s okay, I figured it out while we were fighting the planesgorger. Is that your dad’s sword or did he help you make one of your own?”
-Prompto’s shoulders sag and there is something ... both relieved and sad in his eyes as he murmurs, “It’s ... new. I designed it.”
-Tifa gently ruffles his hair, pretending not to notice his flinch as she smiles, “Well, you did your dad proud out there today.”
-Something warms in blue eyes, shy and still sad, but brighter now, “Yeah ... yeah I did. You did- You were awesome too, you know? You’re amazing.”
-Tifa strikes a pose with a laugh, and their conversation tapers off comfortably. Tifa doesn’t ask who his mother is, because she’s already pretty sure it’s not her and either way, she doesn’t want to disrupt the future somehow by knowing too much.
-Right before they all leave, Prompto hugs her from behind and whispers, “Thank you. For always being there for ... you know. He needs all the help he can get.”
-And then he’s hurrying away, back to Noctis and Titus, who both look at him sadly, like they know something heartbreaking she doesn’t.
-When they get back home, Prompto ignores all the worried fussing of the adults who want to know where they’ve been the last week and locks himself in his room.
-Later, Titus will pick the lock and come in to check on him with Noctis on his heels, both worried, because while they knew OF Tifa they hadn’t been best friends with her and they know it had to hurt. Prompto curls into Titus’s gentle bear hug and laughs a little hysterically into the silence. Noctis pets his hair and makes a questioning noise, and Prompto rasps, “Up until the day she died, she always told me I would be a good dad. That I would find someone to have a kid with.”
-Another hysterical giggle and a choked, “She made me promise that when I had a son, I’d name him Prompto.”
(*ahem* so yeah. VERY ANGSTY AND SAD. I just hurt my own Feels. Sorry, I know you were probably hoping for something more in the vein of my Nox Dissidia HCs.)

sometimes i rewatch advent children and youtube clips just to study how cloud fights, particularly when i have to write something that involves action on his part. tsusurgi / ken is so complicated, it’s not easy to break down how each part works. separate, yes, it’s no brainer which part cuts and which doesn’t. all together, same thing. but cloud is able to fit the blades in different ways.
the most prominent is when he fits the hollow blade with tsurugi. (i know that’s more of a fandom name than official but i like it so i’mma use it.) but what about the back saw blades, or the cresent blades? (there are no official names for them, so this is what i’ll be using to describe them.)
as i watch (and try not to get distracted by prettiness), i try to see how the different swords fit together to shape tsurugi’s true form. no matter the combination, it seems that the blade is never imbalanced. i’ve wondered about the mechanics about it before, and it’s always an adventure to imagine the various ways cloud can fight if he uses, say, the back saw with the crescent blade, or the hollow blade with the back saw blade, or whatever.
i want to say it’s first tsurugi (the main blade) that’s the answer to that question. we see that first tsurugi is capable of two modes: standby and battle. because of that interchangeable feature, it’s possible that the core (i’m going to call it a core even though it’s just the sides of the blade) is flexible. cloud can easily make it change modes (like when he "greets” reno at the lodge) without any sign of pressing anything or turning a latch (see also omnislash v5 and v6).
i’ve always played that tsurugi is like an extension of cloud, and it requires little thought or motion to change the sword’s shape or combination. a small turn of his wrist can engage and disengage battle mode, and the right motion can lock and unlock the smaller blades (like the hollow blade) without disassembling the whole weapon.
i doubt many others see this, but it’s a neat little trick that connects cloud to his weapon and shows the dexterity he possesses. he’s grown quite a bit since cc and bc, and even in the original game. we get to upgrade him with swords of different shapes (yes, even the nailbat), and perhaps tsurugi is a reflection of cloud’s ability to handle various weapons. (i’m mainly talking about swords, not rifles and whatnot from his cadet days.)
granted, i could just be talking out of my ass. still, it’s a neat thought to run with.
also, something a little off topic ---
it’s pretty common nowadays for cinematics to slow down a piece of action in order for the audience to get proper look at what’s going on. in watching ffvii:ac, i’m reminded of the impossibility of their movements. taking into consideration actual physics (which square likes to ignore more often than not), these people are moving very quickly. cloud in particular is moving at an incredibly fast pace when he fights.
dodging / deflecting bullets, aerial fighting, even the fight with sephiroth as shinra hq is crashing down... how fucking fast are you moving, bro? (and don’t forget the bike scenes --- that’s some serious cruise control.)
it’s very impressive in its impossibility. without the handiness of warping like in ffxv, or other limits / overdrives / trance / etc. that display an augment of natural abilities, cloud is already that fast. is it an attribute of his mako enhancement? possible. that’s a hc worth exploring.
what i would like to try sometime is play advent children, or (i know it’s not possible but it would be nice) youtube clips of him fighting in real time. that’s probably at like x120 speed but hey, if that’s how it is, hot damn. you’s a badass, man.

I find the concept that Lena is secretly a jock endlessly amusing. Like, Lena’s totally a science nerd. She’d never really be mistaken for an athlete; though, that’s mostly due to the fact that she wasn’t playing common sports like basketball or soccer. No, Lillian enrolled her almost exclusively in all sorts of super obscure, ‘rich people’ sports because a respectable, young woman is well-rounded, Lena, dear.
So Lena is actually out here being a master archer and a ranked fencer, among several other activities. The family has gone on many winter holidays, so of course, she’s a competent skier. And you bet your ass, she’s done horseback riding, probably even played her fair share of polo at her fancy European boarding schools. (The closest she ever actually got to a mainstream sport was in grad school when she played for Sam’s intramural softball team—pitching exclusively. There was no bribe big enough to convince her to run bases.)
All of this was incredibly amusing for Kara to learn, after finding several of Lena’s old team photos—including ones of her in her old fencing uniform—because it’s just so dichotomous with her view of Lena. But also somehow, so fitting.
Her lovely girlfriend who can’t run to save her life but could easily and gracefully stab the shit out of someone using multiple different weapons … it tracks

Kara is incredibly linguistically gifted. At this point, she’s not sure how much of it was her childhood education on krypton, her pod using her time in the phantom zone to implant as many useful languages in her mind as possible, or just her natural skill. But the fact stands that she can speak more than a few alien languages and about three times as many earth ones. (Honestly it came in quite handy as Cat’s assistant and even more so as a journalist.)
The problem arises when she sometimes, occasionally, maybe kinda forgets what language she’s supposed to be speaking.
How is she supposed to explain away that she, without a thought, started conversing in Vietnamese while she and Lena ordered pho from the lovely couple who own the shop near Noonan’s. Or the time Lena swore viciously in Irish after a trying meeting with the board, only for Kara to jokingly scold her for such language. Also in Irish. Lena had been trying to keep a running tally of how many languages she’d heard Kara use so casually, but she honestly just gave up once she reached the double digits.
No, she casually looked the other way, until during one of Kara’s rambles about her upcoming exposé, Lena suddenly realizes Kara sidetracked herself into a completely different language—one unlike anything she’s ever heard, with some sounds she's quite sure vocal cords aren’t even supposed to make?
“Okay, hang on. I’m pretty certain that language isn’t even human.”
“Hmm? Oh no, it’s a dialect of Ch’rokniv from a star cluster near Messier 82,” Kara says airly, while she picks at Lena’s leftover fries, still lost in thoughts about the article.
“And how would you, a human woman from earth, be fluent in such a language?” Lena cocks an eyebrow waiting for the moment when … ah, yes. Kara’s eyes refocus, locking on Lena's, as her mouth hangs open and brows furrow.
“Uhhhhh... surprise?”

During game night, Nia has definitely convinced the super friends to play Among Us, at least once, and it is absolutely one of the only games that Kara always loses. She’s just … such a bad liar. And don’t even get her started on the guilt. Whenever she’s an imposter, she always gets this eyebrow crinkle and sad little frown that instantly give her away. She just can’t help it! It’s almost sad how quickly she always caves when she’s accused and has even voted herself off the ship because she feels too guilty. (That one was definitely because she accidentally took out Lena while trying to hit the sabotage button instead, though…)
Lena on the other hand, has no mercy. Little Miss Chess Prodigy has strats for days, and no, she will not share them… get your own strategies, Alex! Her one weakness is Kara. Mostly because when Kara is a crewmate, she tries to use the buddy system with Lena to protect her, which does kinda get in the way of Lena trying to lovingly annihilate all her friends

One time while drinking a little too much aldebaran rum, Kara got the excellent, brilliant, flawless idea to try out that upside down spiderman kiss on Lena
But she didn’t necessarily think it through. Because when she felt Lena’s lips and tongue and a slight tug of her hair where Lena was grasping a handful, Kara may have kinda, sorta forgotten to keep flying and fell flat on the floor
(Alex definitely still has pics of Kara’s drunken, disheveled face gawping up from the floor as Lena smirks wickedly from above, and yes, she will be using them as blackmail)

Kara had planned it for weeks—gathering all of Lena’s favorite treats and keeping an eye on the forecast—all so she could take Lena on one of the most romantic dates she’s ever been on. And at first Lena wasn’t too thrilled about being gently nudged awake in the middle of the night, but in the end she definitely couldn’t complain. She found herself bundled up into a soft cocoon of coat and blankets in Kara’s arms atop the Fortress of Solitude, where they picnicked under the swirling greens and purples of the Aurora Borealis.
Lena didn’t necessarily think she’d ever dreamed specifically about being kissed senseless under the dancing spirals of the northern lights, but once she’d done so with Kara, it certainly felt like a dream come true

Lena has never really owned many comfy clothes, and has certainly never worn them frequently. At least, she hadn’t until she started dating Kara. No, now she’s out here committing comfy clothing theft from Kara’s closet on a near daily basis. And really, Kara can’t be too upset about it because Lena just looks too dang cute while wrapped up in her old Midvale hoody
They may have hit a bit of a snag though, when one day after work, Lena looks in Kara’s closet and realizes a solid 98% of Kara’s sweats and worn flannels were all in her own closet in her penthouse across town
(She’s not sure whether she should start supplementing Kara’s closet with more replacements so Kara actually has something comfortable to wear once Lena’s stolen the last of her flannels or whether she should just enjoy the view when Kara chooses to wear nothing at all, instead)

Kara: The ‘Alien Conspiracy Theorist’
One of the best ways Kara has kept her secret identity for so long definitely isn’t because she’s actually good at keeping secrets. Nor is it because the ‘ponytail-and-glasses’ combo actually do a good job of hiding her. Far from it. Kara couldn’t lie convincingly to save her life. It’s more so that she’s so flagrantly obvious with her identity and knowledge of aliens that no one ever believes her. Sometimes the best place to hide is in plain sight, right?
A newsreal about Superman played on the screen in the breakroom when a coworker asked, “Do you think aliens are really real? I mean Superman claims to be one, but can we really prove that? You never know what the military is experimenting with these days…”
Of course, they were probably expecting the traditional ‘well the universe is massive, so statistically there’s bound to be intelligent life somewhere else out there.’
What they got instead was Kara. Not even looking up from where she was mixing an absurd amount of sugar and creamer into her coffee by the sink, she said, “Oh, yeah. Of course, they are. You know, I’ve been abducted by aliens about 6 times, at this point. No wait… 7.”
The instant silence that filled the breakroom had her turning to see the absolutely stunned faces of a handful of her coworkers. “You’ve been … what?”
And, oh… maybe she shouldn’t have said that… but it was out there, now. She had to commit at this point. “Abducted by aliens, yep! My sister and I actually take a trip to Roswell at least once every couple of years. ” Many of them had seen the photo of her and Alex in front of the UFO dinner on the outskirts of Roswell that sat on her desk as proof of it.
“Wait. Did they… you know?”
“Wha….? OH! No, no! Of course not! They’re usually quite nice! Some of them still keep in touch, you know? The first time, I was just a teenager. I was visiting my cousin’s family farm in Kansas, and one of the cows got out in the middle of the night. Had to go find her. I got interrupted by a group of Shmolbexeens, from what I could tell? They’re this lovely shade of blue with purples specks. A very sweet group honestly, if a little nosy,” Kara finished with a smile. They really were quite friendly—just a group of xenobiologist grad students from another galaxy writing a research paper on humans.
“Soooooooo, you got abducted. In Kansas. While looking for a cow?”
“Yep! They actually pointed me in the direction of old Miss Belle,” and with that Kara sipped her coffee and headed back to her desk, leaving a set of stunned and silent coworkers behind her. Cat would surely be shouting for her any second, and it was best not to keep her waiting.
And really, that was only the start of it. Kara always seemed to have some story or alien fact. She’d basically outed herself, so why not share her unique pool of knowledge? Except what she didn’t know is that it wasn’t exactly an outing as an alien, but more as a very human, very ‘imaginative’ alien conspiracy theorist.
(‘A nutjob’ Blake from accounting would call her, only to get elbowed by Katrina in legal. ‘She’s sweet! Just a little... eccentric’)
So when Supergirl came into National City’s spotlight, why would anyone suspect sweet, alien-lover Kara Danvers—who just so happened to talk about Supergirl a lot and suddenly seemed to be the only person in media with a direct line of contact with the alien superhero—of being her when it was far more likely that she was dating her, instead.
Hidden in plain sight, indeed.
#HC Advent Adventure#Day 12#Supergirl#Kara Danvers#danvers sisters#young kara wandering the woods banging pots and pans together yelling for those alien fuckers to beam her up#this was an old idea from 2018 that I found the old text messages about this morning#there's even art from btc about it#this idea is funny and cute#but also like just think about it#Kara has been flung on to earth and while she is in fact trying to build a new home for herself here#she misses her old home she's bound to try to cling to any piece of home she can find#in the early years she tried to spend time with Kal when she could#but there wasn't much and Kal for all that he was Kryptonian was also so unbelievably human#and it hurt to not have a single piece of the wider universe to cling to#until she was visiting the Kent farm and did indeed get abducted by aliens#glowing light in the middle of a deserted field and everything#they're like you're the strangest human we've ever seen and kara's just all I'm?? Part of dating is building up the most blackmail material possible via ridiculous and absurd pictures at the worst angles. It’s its own love language, honestly. So Lena and Kara both have whole not-so-secret albums on their phones dedicated to each other, and sure, a lot of them are totally normal pictures. Cute selfies together. Artful shots posed on vacation. Stunning candids.
But intermixed with them is a bunch of the most buck-wild pictures. There’s at least 20 pictures of Lena looking like a blurry cryptid, and a handful more of Kara shoving way too much food in her mouth for one bite. Kara’s favorite is the one she has from when Lena fell asleep half-dangling off the couch, upside down, but Lena certainly thinks the one she caught of Kara’s face mid-rant during game night is far superior blackmail material
No one sees your worst angles quite like the ones that love you, but that’s the beauty of it. They see them and keep on loving you
(Also you can’t convince me that they don’t use them as phone backgrounds and reaction images when texting each other)

It took Lena a while to really notice them, the little drawings tucked in drawers and scattered around Kara’s apartment. It wasn’t until she looked up from her book, one quiet afternoon, and spotted Kara across the couch, gazing at Lena intently. In her hands were a pencil and one of the many paper scraps common to the space.
The intense focus in Kara’s eyes and the furrow of her brow piqued Lena’s curiosity, but of course, Kara shrugged it off as nothing. It wasn’t until later, while Kara was busy in the kitchen, that Lena reached for the page sitting on the coffee table. On it was a beautifully detailed sketch of herself curled into the corner of the couch, reading intently.
From that point forward, Lena never really stopped noticing the drawings that would appear at random around the apartment. Sometimes she’d find one of the neighbor’s cat that liked to sun itself on Kara’s fire escape, or another of a plant Alex had gotten Kara right after it first started flowering.
Most frequently though, she found herself—drawings of her eyes behind thick frames as she squinted at her tablet, drawings of the quirk of her lips as she read something particularly amusing in one of her articles, drawings of her content and angered and seductive and everything in between. Really just drawings of herself in moments when she forgot who she was supposed to be and how she was supposed to act, when she dropped the facade and just was.
It was a strange feeling to be so seen by someone else, but with it came a deep, warm, comforting love. Because in every moment captured—no matter how raw, vulnerable, or innocuous—Lena could see Kara’s heart bared for her in every line drawn.
