Okay. I can’t believe I’m making another post like this, but I’m going to be very specific here.
Aiyuu shippers who say “if you don’t ship aiyuu, you’re homophobic!” unironically...YOU’RE ANNOYING.
Yuuhiyo/Aihiyo shippers who say “if you don’t ship (yuu/aihiyo), you’re heterophobic!” unironically...YOU’RE ANNOYING.
Liphiyo shippers who say “if you don’t ship liphiyo, you’re biphobic!” unironically...YOU’RE ANNOYING.
Like . holy shit. This fandom is turning into a MASSIVE fucking “he said, she said!” ordeal and it’s putting more bias onto newcomers depending on who they talk to and making the fandom even more divided.
Stop. Everyone participating in that shit is annoying. Everyone is allowed to ship what they want. Stop fucking using that stupid “I’m gonna call you (x)phobic because your opinion is different from mine!” bullshit.
Okay? Nothing is canon!!!! Aiyuu isn’t canon. Yuuhiyo isn’t canon. Aihiyo isn’t canon. Liphiyo isn’t canon. So there’s no damn reason to be attacking each other. If you hate another ship, just live and let live and stay in your own damn bubble.
You’re allowed to be uncomfortable with a ship. You’re allowed to despise a ship. You’re allowed to be neutral with a ship. You’re allowed to like and even love a ship.
You shouldn’t be attacking anyone, no matter how much you hate their ships or opinions. This fandom is turning into one of those stupid toxic fandoms that does absolutely nothing but argue about ships and it’s getting really old, really fast.
Honeyworks has been my safe space for almost 3 years now, and I don’t want the stress of seeing people who ship what I ship attacking others, or people who ship what I don’t attacking me/other people who ship what I ship.
Enough is enough. If you truly hate someone, just block them. It’s not that hard.

I love reading your tags and was wonder what your interpretation on the Lip x Lip pocky edition is? Also, more similarities between Ken and Aizou's types because I want them to have some common ground they have so they can try to talk to each other and reconnect again.
Aww, I’m glad you love reading my tags~ Thank you sm!! <33 it makes me happy knowing people like my rambles and opinion on things,,
Are you talking about that pocky scene in the new MV where Yuujirou and Aizou are at the store together and had their own pockys in their hands? Or are you referring to their pocky flavors? :O pls let me know~
As for the analysis between Ken and Aizou’s types…
(I ended up talking A LOT so you can read more under the cut ahsjs)
I know you probably meant their physical similarities (like hairstyle, etc) but I kinda delved more into their characters??
Compared to the Shibasaki brothers who, in a sense, are more modern… Yuujirou and Arisa have different family backgrounds than most people. Arisa’s family owns a shrine, meanwhile, the Someya family has a kabuki legacy and many of them (especially his stepdad and brother) are very strict about beauty + a good performance. Arisa is sometimes seen in shrine maiden clothing while Yuujirou is sometimes seen in traditional clothing. Arisa’s grandfather is a Shinto shrine priest and Yuujirou’s stepdad/brother and other people in his personal life are kabuki actors.
Both of them know how to dance like some of their family members and they definitely practice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here, Ken is watching her perform and blushing. Aizou has also canonically seen Yuujirou perform kabuki. LOOK HOW GOOD THEY LOOK and their eyes omg (granted, arisa obviously looks happier but yeah) BUT YEAH,, look at these two images and tell me you don’t find the similarities.
Also, both Yuujirou and Arisa sometimes do the :3 face
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arisa had put her hair up in high twintails after being inspired by Sena, and she even moved forward in life as she tried to be more outgoing and friendly. Since Yuujirou’s application has him with long bangs and he came to the audition with short bangs, I’m assuming he may have cut them himself. He has also tried being more kind and cool to the public eye (fans, classmates, etc.)
So they both directly changed their hairstyles and acted friendlier. They’re moving forward aww
Arisa and Yuujirou don’t consider Ken and Aizou as perfect, even from the start. Arisa found Ken’s way of living too “my-pace” and even boring. Meanwhile, Yuujiou bickered with Aizou on their first meeting.
Both Arisa and Yuujirou had problems making friends when they were younger. Yuujirou kept himself busy with Kabuki practice whenever he was invited to hang out so he never rlly formed any actual friendships, and Arisa tended to “poke her nose into other people’s affairs and had unintentionally spoken harshly during elementary school, which ended up with her often being left out by her peers,” according to her novel.
Aizou is technically Yuujirou’s first friend, since it was revealed that Yuujirou’s childhood lacked any friendships and he pushed everyone away because he felt like there wasn’t a point in making friends. However, Aizou kept talking to him and involving him in things despite their arguments. In Arisa’s case, Ken noticed her from afar and told his friend to keep an eye on her ( for him to act like her friend or smth.) This helped her get situated and it made her feel happy.
We know that the Shibasaki brothers have a certain way they portray themselves on the outside. They are seen as sociable, friendly, and outgoing by the public eye (aizou with his fans and classmates.) But on the inside, despite their popularity and interactions, they’re lonely people. Other people like them but they can’t see who they truly are, at least 100%. Both Yuujirou and Arisa can. The brothers talk to their partners and involve them in stuff, even when the other doesn’t seem to want to comply or ignore them. Arisa defends/defended people and Yuujirou has actually defended Aizou and even made him cheer up and laugh by doing a particular face when his idol partner was visibly upset about something. So, the both of them help the boys better themselves and the Shibasaki brothers know they can rely on their partners. Lonely Persons imply that Yuujirou and Arisa are the only people that can understand Aizou and Ken, even when the other doesn’t properly say it in words or tell anyone else. It’s like words aren’t even needed and their bonds are deeper than that.
Both the cat versions of their types look at the brothers and arisa is within arms reach, fairly close to ken because she’s there for him and they’re dating. Aizou feels like Yuujirou is there for him but he’s also afraid of losing him and that they aren’t as close as he may think— obviously that’s not true because yuujirou appears with a smile and looks at him softly. // psttt just shoot ur shoot aizou// Both Arisa and Yuujirou are holding their cat versions (kuro and the random cat lmao) close to their chests too, with one hand over the cats’ backs.
Between Aiyuu and Shibarisa, arisa and yuujirou are seen as the more “chill” or “quiet” ones (even though, of course, yuujirou is quite sneaky and arisa is outgoing in a way)
Arisa seems to like the crepes on their date and Yuujirou, with his sweet tooth, would DEFINITELY love crepes. i demand a crepe date for aiyuu,, i demand us seeing aiyuu eating cake on xmas.
By the way, this is just a fun observation but both Ken and Aizou definitely think about texting Arisa and Yuujirou the most during literally anything. In “Naimaki Honey”, Ken looks happy while he stares at his phone and he’s def on LINE a lot for arisa— i bet he texts her goodmorning and goodnight + little things. Aizou literally texted Yuujirou at 2 am over some BEEF ROAST he made. like it was his first thought after he finished and yuujirou read it immediately (but didn’t reply lmao) I’m assuming arisa and yuujirou don’t text with the same energy as their partner most times.
Also, we already know how they’ve been compared to or represented by cats. And the Shibasaki brothers own a cat, plus aizou likes cats more.
OK WOO— i’m done HSJS. So sorry that it was a long read !!! I tried to compile some stuff and then I accidentally exited out and lost everything SHDJS

The temperature is dropping here and it made me think of Aiyuu wearing extra layers of clothes and secretly holding hands in one of their pockets to keep warm. Maybe they could even share a warm drink but they’re in a secret relationship so they’re trying to act natural. Imagine Yujiro getting cold and Aizou lending him his jacket but Yujiro refuses and so they keep throwing it back between each other.
Tumblr media
it's only because it's warmer that way
also yeah aizou and yuujirou share clothes that's canon at this point like that one incorrect quote that's "i'm cold" "*gives him a jacket* damnit yuujirou *gives him a hat* i can't control the weather *gives him a scarf* you should have worn warmer clothes idiot*"

“I could kill you right now.” AiYuu
CW: Major Character Death
Yusaku had always thought to trust Ai. Why would he not? He had proven to be a good ally and at times, even a good friend.
But perhaps, he quickly realised, he had made a mistake in his judgement to trust Ai so easily. To quickly dismiss his nature as somebody who was always joking, never serious - he had never thought he could be something more.
“Ai!” From where he stood, Yusaku could see the ignis fighting Flame. Just like AI his form was morphed, spreading into a rather large creature that was so different form his own. Maybe that was where he also went wrong - he should have questioned the ignisis ability to do such a thing.
“Yusaku, don’t worry.” His tone is light as they speak, a sharp contrast as to what was happening right now. Yusaku didn't want to believe that the person in front of him was actually their friend. “I’ll be coming after you once I am done dealing with Flame.”
Flame the ignis that had prided itself on keeping calm was no longer that. After what had happened to Takeru, he had lost all self control - placing all of his anger and hurt on the dark ignis. He had started shouted to Ai in a language that he couldn’t quite understand, the meaning lost but his anguish evident.
Looking at this scene, Yusaku can’t help but feel powerless. This isn’t a situation that can easily be solved by duelling just like everything else. Yusaku is now a spectator not a participant.
“Stop it!” Calls out Yusaku, his voice echoing across the empty space that had become Vrains. “Stop doing this!”
There is one final roar, Flame using his last breath to try and push back against Ai but it is fruitless. Flame is pushed back down towards the abyss that they have found themselves in, leaving Yusaku all alone.
While he is used to being alone, a sense of despair comes across him as he realises that only Ai is here now.
“Ai, please.” He says, his voice shaking as he moves away from him. “Stop this.”
But he doesn’t.
Instead, he only get closer to Yusaku. Their pick him up like he is a doll in his arms, a gesture that is meant to be comforting but isn’t.
“I could kill you right now, Yusaku.” Their voice has a certain glee to it, as though he enjoys having this power over him. “Make it so that you can not get in the way of AI domination, just like everything else.”
However, he pauses. Even with the one eye his expression is soft.
“Or I could keep you here with me - in the new vrains that we have created.”

the anon who asked about your odd ships. now I wanna know EVERY take you mentioned but in case that gets very long / you don't want to talk about everything, I'm most curious about the canon ship you can't stand, that notp, and that poly ship. Though if you have the time I'd rather know all the takes 🤣
ask and you shall ✨receive✨~
Tumblr media
dropping a cut here for length~~ because m a n did just those three questions get long sorry~~~~
the canon ship i can’t stand:
aside from the obvious (akechi x his m*t* s**t*), i don’t like the harucouple. i find their story pretty bland tbh, and i just find miou plain unlikeable.
questionable 10cm anime aside (‘cuz seriously, what was up with miou in that anime? she found out that chiaki died [from unrelated causes] after he saved her from drowning, and then proceeded to blame herself for his death??? even though akechi was like “ay girl his death ain’t your fault, so chill ok?” she just went ahead and made chiaki’s death all about herself, distanced herself from haruki with no explanation, then slapped him when he got all depressed and had an existential crisis that came about because she ignored him? like whaaaaat) the fact that miou is just too dang passive is pretty annoying. m
like, what’s up with that “zutto matteru yo, haruki-kun” nonsense? why is she expecting haruki to be the only one to put in effort to see her? take some initiative, girlllllllllllllll close that 10cm yourself dammit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he’s going to study abroad in the us of a, he has no time to hop on a plane to zip back just to see you. if you have the time to find him (like during your summer vacation), and if the opportunity presents itself (like, if your friends happen to get tickets for a trip to the ‘states and are gracious enough to give one of said tickets to you), go to see him yourself, dammit!!!!!!
and! the fact that they just picked up right where they left off 7 years later is pretty dumb. people change over time, you know? the person you thought you liked in high school may have very well grown up to become an adult that you barely recognise, much less still have feelings for. so the fact that they just??? got right together after those 7 years with absolutely minimal contact??? is just????? what???????????
so yeah. that canon ship i can’t stand is harumiou. stock shoujo romance ships confuse me h e l p
aside from that, yuko x her french husband ig, bc she needs therapy, not a man. prioritise your kids, yuko, not yourself. you’re a parent, so act like one, dammit!!!!
that notp:
every single aizo ship aside from lxl, daizo (as a crackship), and aiyui (read: ft4 yui, for the crack potential only), bc i really can’t see him with any girl (or any other guy for the matter, really). aiyuu forever, y’know—
also, hiyomona bc episode 6 of the [redacted] anime still makes my skin crawl. why would you ship mona with someone who says “you’re so cute, no wonder why the guy tried to assault you” h e lp. i used to think that hiyomona was kinda cute, but now it just. gives me the heebies sorryyyyyyyyyyy
that poly ship:
keikarenariken!!!!! the fast food quartet is just so cute together y’know~~~~? kei and ken even bounce off each other really nicely (cries in heart no chikai novel i totally didn’t forget about), and arikaren are just plain cute!!!!! ken and karen have nice interactions with each other, in a sense… soooo… they’re all just so precious and cute and i think they should all hold hands and feed each other extra salty french fries
and for another poly ship, kotahinakoyuryou! yukki deserves to have 3 gardening-loving lovers y o u g e t m e ? flower shop ot4, anyone? i just think the four of them should be girlfriends (yes, even kotaro) and weave each other flower crowns~~~~~~

💙💛yuuai💙💛 is ✨justice✨ ok—
spoilers for everything? spoilers for everything.
so as y’all know, the dynamic of having aizo be yujiro’s protector is a tale as old as time
Tumblr media
however, did you notice that yujiro has been the one who was protecting aizo in plain sight this entire time?👀 let’s go over the different media sources (aside from the novels, pretty much everything from there was retconned anyway)
the movie!
exhibit a: the kanami encounter
we can’t talk about the movie without mentioning the kanami scene, right? in it, local (questionable) fangirl kanami pretty much deliberately rams herself into aizo, who naturally pushes her away out of reflex. and the one who swooped in to save the day was…
Tumblr media
yujiro! he jumps in before aizo could say anything (even more) stupid in his panic, and quickly saves aizo (and their reputations as lipxlip, sure) from further disaster.
it’s worth noting that after this, yujiro vowed to put kanami’s name down on his blacklist, which is pretty funny, considering she didn’t do anything to him directly, having targeted aizo instead.
exhibit b: the park scene
Tumblr media
when aizo ran away from home in a fit of distress, yujiro was the one who was able to find him in his favourite place: a certain spot in the park. not only that, he also managed to encourage and support said blondie (by listening to the reasons behind his abrupt attempt at homelessness, and singing with him to bring his singing back in time for their first live), though he did get physical with aizo in the process.
the anime
exhibit a: the classroom scene
Tumblr media
when aizo was physically downed from his irl squid game the stress of being around so many girls at the same time, yujiro was the one who helped him out of the classroom.
Tumblr media
yujiro even stayed by aizo’s side when the latter couldn’t attend their next lesson properly as he recovered. good boy. a very protective boyfriend indeed.
exhibit b: the chiz
Tumblr media
when local classmate chizuru (who turned out to be a surprise aizo stan) starts acting suspiciously around them, yujiro took (physical) action to expose her for her misdeeds. granted, he could’ve just been seeing her as a regular annoyance to his daily life (with aizo). it’s not like he knew she was an aizo stan or anything... right…?
but the mvs aren’t safe from the yuuai hammer either!
love&kiss:
Tumblr media
so this scene happened. yup. i have no clue as to what the story to the mv is (it’s confusing ok), but yujiro protected aizo from… having to kiss the then-evil queen’s foot? good for you, i suppose?
and of course, we have the event stories from honeypre!
exhibit a: the white day event
Tumblr media
in this event, yujiro hurt aizo’s feelings with a careless remark during an argument, and set out to right his wrongs… though he very quickly realised that he had no idea as to how to apologise in the first place. watching him bumble around like a clueless boyfriend who was trying to make it up to his upset lover after an argument was pretty hilarious👀
exhibit b: the honeymoon event
Tumblr media
in this event, yujiro ventured out into the unfamiliar streets of kyoto, despite his poor sense of direction, in order to locate aizo’s lost kumamaru strap, which had vanished from aizo’s personage when he caught yujiro before he fell at kyoto station. poor aizo was left behind as yujiro’s worried housewife all throughout his misadventures in locating the strap, which was actually kinda sweet in a way. husband yujiro? husband yujiro.
“is that all you have? i still prefer aiyuu!!!” you say. well, all of this is just what i remember from the media… and what the tumblr 10 images per post limit allows me to do. welp. may come back to edit this later in the future idk, we’ll see how the julietta mv does👀

If I Went on a Trip with You: Chapter 3
press ‘f’ for the aiyuu aquarium date from the romeo novel. it apparently doesn’t happen in this canon—
also, many liberties were taken with this chapter lmfaooo
Previous part (Chapter 2)
Next part (Chapter 4)
Tumblr media
Aizo: First stop, the aquarium… It looks to be a short train ride away, so let’s head for the station.
Aizo: But before that, it’s almost noon, so let’s get something to eat. There’s a place that serves lunch with vegetables—.
Yujiro: I’ll pass. I hate bell peppers.
Aizo: Huh?! I chose it because the presentation of the food’s beautiful, so I thought that it’d look good in our photos!
Yujiro: So what if it looks beautiful? Isn’t it a waste to order something that you can’t eat? Don’t you think it’d be rude to leave leftovers?
Aizo: You should just eat it, then!
Yujiro: You don’t even know what your unit partner likes or dislikes. A guy like you doesn’t have the right to boss me around.
Aizo: Haah… forget it. I’m tired of talking about unnecessary things like that.
Yujiro: That’s my line. I’d rather return to the inn to take a nap…
Aizo: Napping again, oh you… There’s no way we can waste our time like that.
Aizo: We have to find something to write our essays on, and we have to take pictures too, you know?
Yujiro: We can just come up with good topics for our essay to keep up with appearances, right?
Aizo: Don’t act selfishly. Maintain the cleanliness of the room at the inn. Don’t be picky about food…
Aizo: Follow what I’ve written on my list, okay?
Yujiro: I didn’t ask you to write one, though.
Yujiro: Besides, Aizo, you’re not on this trip by yourself, right? You should discuss it more with the other person you’re here with…—
Yujiro: (Wait, what am I saying? This makes it sound like I was looking forward to the trip.)
Aizo: …Ah? What did you say? I missed it while I was looking at the map.
Yujiro: …It’s nothing. We’re going to the aquarium, right? Come on, let’s hurry.
Tumblr media
Aizo: Whoa…! This aquarium’s pretty huge, huh?
Aizo: There’s still time before the dolphin show, so… let’s look around for a bit.
Aizo: It looks like the seals are over that way. I think we’ll be able to see the sharks too.
Yujiro: I got it, I got it. You want to see the seals and the sharks, don’t you?
Yujiro: Don’t worry, it’s not like they’re going anywhere.
Aizo: Ugh… Stop talking to me as though I’m a kid!
Yujiro: Are there any other creatures that you’d like to see? Like fish that are a better representation of the aquarium, for instance.
Yujiro: Ah, what’s in that tank over there?
Aizo: O-oi! Don’t go off by yourself.
Yujiro: (This is the first time I’ve been to an aquarium, but… it’s beautiful and romantic, and an unexpectedly nice place.)
Yujiro: (It’s all sparkly, and… it feels like I’m under the sea.)
Yujiro: Ah, it looks like we can take photos in this area. Shall we take some?
Aizo: Eh?
Yujiro: What’s with that blank look? Did you forget that we came all this way for our photobook?
Aizo: A-aah. I knew that!
Yujiro: (He definitely forgot about it.)
Aizo: We should take one together first. Stop pouting, it’s for the photobook.
Yujiro: I know, I know. Hurry up.
Aizo: Yeah, yeah. Here I go.
Aizo: …Yup, I got a good pic! You really do look good, you know?
Aizo: It’d be better if you looked like you were having a little more fun, though… Wait, what’re you looking at?
Yujiro: That giant salamander reminds me of Suzumi. Look at how it’s wandering around restlessly.
Aizo: You’re right…! Its face is also kinda similar to hers.
Aizo: That small and speedy fish in that tank over there is also kinda like Suzumi, right?
Aizo: Like the way it’s restlessly going this way and that…
Yujiro: Pfft… The fact that it seems unreliable is also kind of similar to her.
Aizo: Haha, you don’t say! Let’s see if we can find some souvenirs of it for Suzumi later.
Yujiro: Yeah, souvenirs…—
Yujiro: (...Huh? Did I just smile normally?)
Yujiro: (Even though Aizo and I are only here at this aquarium for work…?)

genuinely wondering - why do you think the narumi scenes in ep 6 were ooc? (the sena scene in particular was pretty short, I didn't think there was much to say about it)
oh man, do i have ✨opinions✨ about this👀
gonna slip in a cut here because of spoilers for the hiyoko anime and some fairly unpopular (and weirdly articulated) hot takes lol—
aightt so—
my main issue with the narumi scenes in ep 6 is that it’s blatant viewer fanservice (especially for prior fans of the cec series who already know who sena and mona are). in my opinion, the scenes pretty much contributed ✨absolutely nothing✨ to the plot, aside from damaging hiyoko’s self-esteem (with regards to her “i can’t be cute :(” complex) in 4k hd.
the sena scene by itself was fairly okay, though pointless plot-wise, as she was literally just made to be there in order to be her usual cute self in front of hiyoko. would taking the scene out have changed anything in the plot? probably not, as sena could’ve just made a cute cameo in the magazines that hiyoko read later on in the episode (like yumeru did). and that’s really my only issue with the sena scene, especially since hiyoko didn’t join the dots between the sisters when mona introduced herself by her full name. hiyoko doesn’t even think “damn, i just saw a girl who looks like her, with the same last name as her, a short while back👀”, which is pretty dense, but okay—
now, mona.
maybe i’ve just been too spoiled by other non-anime mona content (e.g. the watashi, idol sengen manga + honeypre event stories + mona’s pvs) that mona’s personality in that scene seemed really off to me. her interaction with hiyoko during that crepe date seemed really awkward to me?
to be fair, hiyoko was also rather weird in that scene. she looked at mona, all but went “damn, you cute, no wonder why guys hit on you”, and talked about her cuteness complex in true tmi fashion. their entire interaction just screamed “i am totally a human and i can totally socialise with this fellow human” to me, at least.
like, i can sorta understand mona responding to hiyoko’s self-deprecating rant with a “yeah, i understand how you feel. big mood, can relate. let’s be heroines together!”, but the scene just felt rather weird after that, especially with the mutually exchanged “i like you”s. i can’t really describe this weird feeling i got from it. it’s as though the creators were trying to make a (somewhat pointless) scene cute just for the sake of being cute. sure, the scene was objectively cute, but it pretty much left me going #notmymona—
though all of that would have been well and good if it any of it was actually relevant to the plot, like if maybe some flashbacks to the scene played out/if spontaneous references to it happened (like if hiyoko went “hey my new friend also said that i can be a heroine! i’m glad i have your support too!” when aiyuu were giving her that heroine peptalk, or if hiyoko just-so-happened to recall mona’s words of “i think you can become a heroine” when nagisa told her that she was always his heroine and goes “damn, that girl was right”), but the scenes are never ever mentioned again? there’s still time for that to change in the next 3 episodes though, but i still have my doubts, especially since…
…nagisa himself is never mentioned again after episode 7??? like suddenly all of that “👀👀damn where your bf at👀👀” teasing rapport that aiyuu and hiyoko had built up over those 2 nagisa episodes completely evaporated? like yoooooo hiyoko anime what are you doing? he’s never even mentioned in casual conversation across episodes 8 and 9 (episode 10 pls change this trend i’m begging), even though aiyuu just spent the entirety of episode 7 teasing hiyoko relentlessly about nagisa? like damn, do they only make fun of hiyoko about nagisa when he’s in tokyo? even though they always make fun of her for other things all the time? how flaky.
what was i supposed to be talking about again… oh right, the narumi sisters in the hiyoko anime.
in any case, to me, the plot of the anime seems to be different separate chunks of scenes haphazardly spliced together. like, there seems to be some kind of disjointment between the scenes, even within the same episode, as though there’s barely any flow to it?
episode 6 is pretty much my best example of that. [it opens with the repaint photoshoot + that “yaaa no, i have no interest in you dawgs” thing in the shower, which is never brought up again.] [then the nagisa call, which, coolio, it makes for a decent linking scene.] [then there are random timeskips/scene jumps to juri, and then hina, which… okay.] [then the sena scene, which is never mentioned again.] [and then the mona scene, which is also never mentioned again.] [and then more nagisa references happen as heroine ikusei keikaku takes place as the last section of scenes for the episode.] like… i think that the fact that all of the scenes can even be separated like this is a little… weird?
i dunno man, i feel like i’ll detract even further from the point of the original ask into a whole bunch of “??? moments” about the hiyoko anime if i carry on…
this turned out to be a very incoherent rant i’m so sorry!!!!!!

Tbh I think seeing Shibarisa/Aiyuu parallels are really important when you look at their relationships. Even if you don’t ship aiyuu, you really can’t deny how important Yujiro is to Aizou, or how Arisa is important to Ken.
spoilers for the novels/movie under the cut (long post warning)
Starting off with the Shibabros, they both had a pretty normal life growing up, up until their father cheated on their mother Yuko, and the two began fighting every day, with the arguments getting so bad that they’d end up neglecting their children. Ken would come home from school and see Aizou and it would, pretty much by default, be his responsibility to feed his younger brother, since asking his parents wasn’t an option.
Ken had to mature too fast. We know he was a crybaby as a child (Ijiwaru na Deai). So the sudden jump from being a child who would cry if someone was too mean to him or if he had no friends to someone who had to be strong for his younger brother, it was definitely hard on him. And of course, as he grew, he became a bit more confident- at least enough to start flirting with girls.
And that’s why he gave up going home as much as he could, right?
He started dating girls to cope with his struggles. Dating, surrounding himself with people, it became his way of escaping his life at home, because he couldn’t handle the stress or trauma of being home with his alcoholic mother.
Being with the girls who were just as flighty as him wasn’t addressing what he needed though. It was making it worse. He needed someone to rely on to keep him grounded. He needed someone who could tell him to cut his bullshit and handle things in a more healthy way without running away.
And that someone, for him, wasn’t his friends, who know nothing about his situation and only know him because of school. It was Arisa.
Arisa is someone who is levelheaded, and who is determined to do the right thing, even despite her own insecurities. She’s the kind of person who can be relied on. Even if she’s in pain herself, she won’t abandon someone else, and once she started warming up to Ken, she realized she could rely on him too. Especially upon finding out that he was the one who told Kotaro that he should watch over her in middle school.
For Arisa, she’s someone who has been isolated all of her life. She’s always struggled to make friends due to her “follow the rules” type of attitude, throughout her elementary school years.
In middle school, she found someone who she could genuinely connect with and get along with...only to find out said friend was being bullied. It hurt Arisa, but she didn’t want to go back to a life of isolation. She was peer pressured into helping bully her friend.
And with the type of person Arisa is, that, of course, hurt her immensely. She didn’t want to do it, but she was too scared to take that step forward, and I think it’s beautiful that she found inspiration in Sena to take that first step out of her shell.
Unfortunately, upon taking that step to defend her friend, she became a victim of bullying herself. But she didn’t care anymore. She felt better, knowing her friend was no longer being bullied and she wasn’t hiding who she was. Even though she felt horrible, she was content.
But...thankfully, Ken had witnessed her crying, and had requested Kotaro look after her in class. He felt bad for her, and while he didn’t fully understand what she was going through, he sympathized with her and wanted to help her.
But the isolation carried on into high school, and Arisa was friendless even then. People called her unapproachable. No one partnered up with her in gym or anything else, and yet, Ken pursued her.
The thing with this is that Ken, who had to force himself to act older than he was until he gave up and played around, and Arisa, who just wants to do the right thing and have friends, they didn’t really get along. Arisa pushed him away at every chance, and ended up regretting it. She was opening up to him.
The two started hanging out, and they complemented each other very well.
Ken, being able to be himself and actually focus on getting better without worry about being judged or rejected, and Arisa, being able to be her own self and be genuinely cared for. They have friends- Kotaro, Koudai, Hina...but they will never understand the hardships they had to go through.
But they can rely on each other, because they understand the pain and loneliness. Arisa can allow Ken to be childish while not allowing him to stray too far, and Ken can allow Arisa to feel what it’s like to be loved and cared for- something she desperately wished for all of her life.
Aizou, on the other hand, was the younger brother. He understood less of what was going on at his home, but he understood that nothing would ever be the same. He relied on Ken to be the figure of support when he was alone and hungry and scared.
But when Ken disappeared to cope with his own issues, it gave Aizou his own fear. A fear of abandonment. His father was gone, his mother was an alcoholic who rarely came home, and Ken was no longer there. He watched as everything changed and as everyone slowly left him.
His depression and loneliness became so strong that he often left his own place to stay at a music store for a few nights at a time (Romeo novel, Chapter 2). He just wanted to get through his meaningless days. Live his life.
But the thing is, he wasn’t actually living. He was just watching life go by.
He was said to have been offered to join the sports club multiple times in middle school, but each time, he rejected. He liked sports, but he didn’t see the point in finding enjoyment in something if it couldn’t bring him the happiness he craved.
As a child, his family was happy when he sang. And all he wanted was the magic that made them all smile back. He wanted to continue singing, hence him signing up for the idol audition...where he met Yujiro.
Did they have a good relationship at first? Oh, not at all. They argued over the smallest things. But throughout all of those arguments, there was a level of understanding between the two, and even early on in their relationship, Aizou felt something towards Yujiro. Maybe it was pity at first. Maybe it was understanding. When Yujiro was explaining his life to Tamura, Aizou noticed Yujiro’s fists were clenched, and felt guilty for teasing him. (Kono Sekai no Tanoshimikata, Chapter 3A).
Yujiro, on the other hand, his life is similar to Arisa’s...in the sense of loneliness. Yujiro’s father died when he was young- younger than 5 years old. We know this much since Yujiro’s stated that he started doing kabuki 10 years prior. As he is fifteen years old currently, that would mean he was doing it at age 5. (Translation for the teaser can be found here).
Yujiro loved it. He mentions how he would never go out and do things with kids after school, and would practice all day, everyday. (Kono Sekai no Tanoshimikata, Chapter 3B) He was alone, as he focused so much on his possible future career with his stepfather. All he wanted was to stand on that stage.
Unfortunately, years later, he was disinherited as the Someya successor, as it was given to his younger stepbrother Koichiro instead. It wasn’t just a simple thing to quit either- Yujiro was never mentioned as a Someya on websites or anything. It was as though, to his family- his stepbrother and his stepfather to whom he threw his life away for, he simply did not exist anymore to them. (Romeo novel, Chapter 1).
At school, he continued to be alone. He didn’t know how to interact with people anymore by that point. Even when he met Aizou, he was awful at socializing. But he didn’t necessarily want to be alone. He was never invited places anymore because he always declined in the past, and while he claims to be fine with the loneliness, he always desired to be needed by someone. (Romeo novel, Chapter 9).
When Aizou and Yujiro found even ground together, they realized that the things they hated were the same, and they had a common goal in mind. They became close- closer than any bond that they’ve ever had.
Even when they eventually befriend Hiyori, they never tell her anything personal. They keep her at arms length, being a friend, but not relying on her for personal things. Because she wouldn’t understand. She’s had a normal and loving life, and they know that with the trauma they’ve been through, they need someone who can truly understand them.
Yujiro values Aizou for how he was his first true friend, and he appreciates him not giving up on him when everyone else had. He pushed everyone away, even Aizou...and yet, Aizou kept coming back to him and including him. He relishes in the fact that out of everyone Aizou knows and gets along with, it’s him who he truly relies on. Yujiro himself relies on Aizou as well, even if he claims he doesn’t. He’s mentioned that he realizes that even when things don’t go according to plan, Aizou will be the one who’s there by his side. (Romeo novel epilogue).
And Aizou...he’s grown very attached to Yujiro. Samishigariya itself tells us how Aizou finally learns of love...because of Yujiro. He understands the obsession his brother and mother have with their “game of love” that they played.
Remember that fear of abandonment? When singing about how Yujiro is sometimes there, and sometimes not, he reaches out for him.
Tumblr media
Ship them together or not, no one can deny the panic on his face when the prospect of Yujiro no longer being by his side comes to light.
That’s where the parallels fully come out.
Ken and Aizou, both alone and had to grow up too fast, though handling their issues differently. They need their other half by their side.
Arisa and Yujiro, both people who went through their life up until their later school years, before finally gaining their first true friends. The people who rely on them, just as much as they rely on them. Both pushing the Shibasaki brothers away, before eventually giving in and accepting their outstretched hand, knowing that everything will be okay when they’re together.
Because Arisa and Yujiro are needed, by Ken and Aizou.
And Ken and Aizou are needed, by Arisa and Yujiro.
They’re all traumatized, terrified, alone, and doing their best. But as long as they have each other, then their pains can be lessened, and their burdens won’t be solely theirs to shoulder alone.
The parallels are beautiful, and I think Honeyworks really outdid themselves when highlighting their relationships.

lmfaooo i forgot my name was “bl fanfare” for a moment
[an hour to midnight edit] big clownery under the cut.
as my birthday passes into birthnight, i started to overthink stuff… like about how i even got into this honeyworks fandom lmaooooo
i’m pretty sure i started liking honeyworks stuff from around the time when every other rinlen fanfic was based on “suki kirai”… man, fanfics from the early 2010s sure were wild… and repetitive…
then i guess i started vibing to “yakimochi no kotae” somewhere along the line because i found mochita cute?
but anyways, the first song i remember being around for was “inokori sensei” (i.e. wayyyy before the characters even had official seiyuus). i first watched it subbed on the original descentsubs channel (the one that’s now axed, rip to our fallen god), where it then proceeded to live rent-free in my head for the next few weeks or so.
then eventually “kinyoubi no ohayou” was released and i proceeded to find narumi sena incredibly plain until the release of “kawaiku naritai”.
and uhhh… as for the love story i related to the most… it was koyuhina’s! though it was different in the sense that we were of the same age… the dude i liked had the same birthday as koyuki, so it kinda counts, right? ksksksk
oh right… as for aiyuu, the reason why this dumb tumblr thing was even refurbished from whatever tf i had originally created it for, i actively avoided lipxlip content until the bandori cover of “romeo” was released on the en servers.
why? well, i just wanted to avoid shipping them together, thinking “this is honeyworks. of course these guys are gonna be hetero af. i don’t wannaaaaaa get attached to them, only to get disappointed.” looks like that turned out well for me, i guess…?
oh and dai!!! he’s bae. i love dai and his amazing fedora. i started off clowning on him because of the fedora, but somewhere along the line, i started genuinely liking him?? idk how it happened, but i’m now a proud dai stan!!!
like goodnessssss i can’t wait for dai to come to honeypre. i may have to change my name and comment on the profile from my aiyuu-shipping one to a dai-loving one, but who cares? DAI!!!!!!!!!!
DAI PLS COME TO HONEYPRE!!!!! well, the rest of ft4 can come too, but DAIIIIIIIIII PLEASEEEEEEEEEE
tl;dr of this rambly af post: dai in honeypre when?

It is clear that the Non-Fantasy MV is meant to be romantic and look like the guys are pursuing the girl. When it says “Then, you’ll find love with me” Aizou is leaning against Hiyori as they are back to back. We already know that this is a dream but in Samishigariya, where Aizou implies he can’t convey something in words but only Yuujirou can understand, Aizou is almost in the same exact pose. He leans against Yuujirou back to back. So the first MV was meant to be romantic but this is genuine
istg i was about to ignore ur ask lol i thought u'r an aiyuu anti anon i was ready to throw hands HAHA ANYWAY!!
oh is that the part where aizou was singing he found a book depicting the future, from the first stanza? ah yes, you are talking about this part. sorry i got a bit confused at first, i havent checked recent translations. the last nonfan mv transl i have read is from 2017 lol
it is!!! samishigariya is genuine anon do not think otherwise no matter what antis are spouting. even nobu-san (aizou's seiyuu) tweeted about samishigariya - saying samishigariya is about shibasaki aizou, NOT the idol!aizou. so yes, nonfantasy is about love indeed but the words are sugar-coated by an idol in front of the camera. but samishigariya is the raw emotion aizou feels toward yuujirou, as his partner, as someone there for him.
