When some of the Roman campers started running through the camp, yelling indistinctly and brandishing their weapons, Rodan and the others were understandably confused and worried.
Gojira grabbed one running Legionnaire to ask what was happening.
“Th-there’s a dragon in the Field of Mars!” the camper cried “It just appeared!”
“I thought the river was meant to keep undesirables out?”
“It is!” Gojira’s hand was shrugged off “That’s why we’re all panicking!”
The camper ran off, while Gojira turned to his friends “Should we go?”
Mosura looked concerned “It’d definitely help with strengthening the friendship we’re trying to establish with them.”
“We don’t have armor, though,” Rodan pointed out “and we don’t have time to go look for any that’ll fit us.”
“We can stay near the back, so we’re not a liability,” Mosura replied “be support and try to keep an eye on anyone who gets injured.”
Gojira and Rodan nodded, before the trio started following the other campers to the Field of Mars.
It was almost like a game of Capture the Flag back at Camp Half-Blood, seeing so many kids their age and younger clad in t-shirts, jeans, and shining armor gathered together, holding swords, spears, and knives.
Some ways away from the gathered campers was a tall, two-headed creature in the middle of the field, watching and hissing at the warriors warily.
Its hide was shiny, like a newly polished penny, its wings occasionally flashing sunlight in everyone’s eyes.
One of the heads opened its mouth in a snarl, sounding much like a chainsaw starting up.
Mosura gasped “Is that-“
“Diabla!” Rodan ran forward, only to be stopped by Ichi “No, let me through!”
“It’s too dangerous,” the blond stated, keeping a firm grip on the other demigod’s arm “you not only don’t have armor, but you’re woefully underprepared for dealing with this threat.”
Rodan narrowed his eyes “She’s not a threat; she’s nervous.”
“It also happened to cross the Little Tiber somehow,” Ichi continued like Rodan hadn’t said anything “It needs to be eliminated.”
“Diabla won’t hurt anyone if they don’t try to hurt her,” Rodan said, shaking off Ichi’s hand “call them off; she’s not a threat.”
Ichi scoffed “I’m sorry if I take the safety of my home more seriously than the word of a visitor-“
He was interrupted by hands grabbing the collar of his shirt and yanking him down to Rodan’s eye level.
Golden-brown eyes glared harshly into his own “If anything happens to my dragon-“
“Your dragon?”
“Yes, my dragon.”
A metallic growl drew both their attentions towards the automaton that had started all of this commotion, flaring her wings up in an attempt to intimidate the surrounding campers.
“She’s getting antsy,” Gojira noted.
“She’s scared,” Mosura agreed.
“Call them off,” Rodan repeated, tightening his grip on Ichi’s shirt “you’ll only end up losing campers before you’ll be able to hurt her.”
Ichi glared back, insulted that this graecus thought he and his own couldn’t handle one automaton.
Rodan smirked slightly “Do you really want to argue with the guy who can very easily set you on fire?”
“I have no doubt I could take you down easily.”
Rodan’s eyes seemed to flicker, almost glowing, before touching two fingertips to Ichi’s exposed throat “Maybe…then you’ll have an angry automaton tearing through your ranks.”
The spot on his throat grew uncomfortably warm “This’ll only lead to unnecessary deaths if you don’t call them off and let me through to Diabla.”
Rodan released Ichi’s shirt, allowing him to stand upright, glaring down at the shorter demigod, while rubbing at his throat.
Rodan raised his chin challengingly, daring the other to ignore him.
Ichi growled, turning to shout in Latin at the campers.
Confusion rippled through the ranks, even as Ni and San repeated the command, the rest of the Centurions tentatively following their lead.
Slowly, the campers lowered their weapons.
After a moment, the automaton did the same, lowering her wings to the ground in a crouch, but still watching the campers cautiously.
“You had better be right,” Ichi stated curtly, waving Rodan through the path the campers had opened at his command.
“I am,” Rodan answered, jogging down the open path towards the dragon “Diabla!”
Everyone watched in fear and awe as the unarmed demigod approached the automaton, only for the dragon to let out an ear-piercing shriek at the sight of him.
The two heads shot out at surprising speed, winding around Rodan and pulling him in close in what was unmistakably an affectionate gesture.
Rodan’s surprised shout and subsequent laughter resulted in laughter from Gojira and Mosura, who followed their friend to greet the metallic dragon.
Ichi took the initiative to start ordering the campers back to camp, the threat seemingly averted, though he and his brothers stayed behind to keep an eye out, just in case.
The triplets watched the trio take turns petting the automaton, though Rodan was held close by the left head, as though it had missed him terribly.
They stood in silence for a moment, before Ichi sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose “Alright, I see what you two mean about him.”
San laughed a little, while Ni’s lips twitched up in a smirk “Told you.”
