Oc-tober day 20: Ada Seela Farlès

Another of my Sunflowers-story characters! She's also an npc in our Victorian-fantasy dnd game but this is her regular self in a more modern setting.

Ada is a dog-loving, active young woman, engaged to Mira (whom I drew for day 1!) and adopted siblings with Jan who I'll draw later. She has a large portwine birthmark on her shoulder and tends to keep her hair very short. She wears matching earrings with her fiancé and matching colorful bracelets with her brother as kind of a besties-accessory, other than that I haven't really found a set style for her yet, except she likes blue.

She used to be really nervous and self-conscious, not taking up any space if she could help it, but she's grown into a cheerful and brave young lady who plays pranks on her friends without fear and no longer hides in nondescript clothes never to stand in the spotlight. Now she's a theater nerd and though the self esteem will always be a work in progress, she's pretty much the center light of her friend group, pulling together people who would otherwise never spend time in the same space.

Her dog's called Cola. He's adorable but he's still learning manners.

I’ve really not been functioning well mentally lately 😔

#I can’t seem to do my assignments and everytime I sit down to I just space out again and again and forget what I was even doing #I missed my bus stop last week and didn’t notice for a while and had to bus back at 11 at night #i made two kind of scary mistakes while driving today that I would usually never make #even an event I wanted to go to I ended up missing because I spaced out and was 20 minutes late and by then they’d left #I kept forgetting what I was doing in the middle of making dinner and talking to my mom on the phone #I haven’t even eaten dinner and it’s 3am and there’s soggy pasta in the pot that I never got to straining or putting sauce on #I have turned in very few assignments and I keep getting zeroes and I’m pretty sure I flunked a midterm because I couldn’t focus when I #tried to study #I’m worried I’ll genuinely fail out of college this time but I don’t want to leave bc I at least sort of have friends here now who is miss #*I’d #people keep recommending me like focus apps and setting timers and stuff but I forget about those too #I just feel like I’m on a completely different wavelength like I’ve procrastinated before but this is different #like I don’t even remember that I’m supposed to be doing something until I suddenly remember and start to do it and then I forget again #this has never happened before I don’t know what to do #personal

There's something called the SoCal Challenge, where you go to the beach in the morning, the mountains in the afternoon, and the desert at night. Totally doable apparently, and people make it a tradition to do it every year.

Huh, that sounds cool as hell!! the desert at night sounds really pretty, idk how bad the light pollution is out there but it sounds like somewhere you'd be able to see the milky way fr.

also a big fan of the beach at night, its otherworldly if it's dark enough and you're not from the coast. i went to the beach last summer and made a point of going to see the crabs come out at night and BOY HOWDY it was almost impossible to avoid stepping on them bc it was like. almost too dark to see our own feet and they really blend in with the sand. ANYWAYS the point is the beach is really something else at night.

[Pre-molt, Lost Kin has three short horns. The leftmost horn is the nubbiest, and the rightmost horn is the longest and the most curved. Their head is roughly rectangular with rounded corners, and their eyes are big, round ellipses.

In their first molt, they are drawn to mimic the way they appear in canon. The bottom of their face has sharpened into a gentle point, and their horns are all longer; their leftmost horn is still the shortest, but it is considerably thicker, and the same is true of their rightmost horn. Their rightmost horn also has two curves in it, first going outwards before bending back in, with the tip facing outward. Their middle horn, which is offset over their left eye, has mostly just increased in length. Their eyes are now slanted and tear drop shaped.

There are two drawings of their second molt, one of a front view of their shell, and the other of a side view viewed with their leftmost horn closest to the camera. This horn is now equal in height to their middle horn. Their rightmost horn is much thicker than before, and is so long that the tip goes out of the page. A small extra horn prong protrudes from the concave side of the upper bend on their horn. From the side, their middle horn bends gently towards the back of their head. Their extra horn prong pokes out very slightly from behind the larger horn, which curves slightly towards the back as it bends.

Their final molt also has a front view and a side view of their shell. Their leftmost horn has a much more pronounced curve, and is longer than their middle horn. It first curves outwards, then bends back inwards, while the tip continues facing outwards. Their rightmost horn is considerably thicker than their other horns, and now has three curves in it: first outwards, then inwards, then outwards again with the tip bending inwards. Their extra horn prong is longer and thicker, and curves slightly back on itself.

When viewed from the side, their middle horn curves more than it did before, and their leftmost horn is much thicker, with a small hump at the base due to how it curves. Their rightmost horn is even thicker, having roughly the same curving pattern as their leftmost horn but more intense; the tip goes into the front view of their second molt and is not actually drawn. Their extra horn prong sticks out more than it did before, forming a small V with the thicker horn. some folks were asking about lheki on my other vessel horns post, and. uh. this is why they get their own page DFJKGHJKS like i’ve said before, their uneven horns are why i love their design so much, but it also makes them much, much harder to draw than their more symmetrical siblings. a curse and a blessing in the same breath, truly. i also tried to give myself more space to finish their horns and still wound up having to leave the tips off, so i guess that says a lot about my spatial awareness lmfao
