Hi, please bear with me while I get this off my chest. I’m mostly stumbling over my words as I think of what to say.

Thank you, love you all!

Now, when I say that I love Ben 10, I really mean that I LOVE Ben 10.

Complain all you want about Alien Force/Ultimate Alien being too dark and gritty, Omniverse having an ugly artstyle, or the reboot “ruining” the series (which it isn’t), I love each and every one of the series and will protect them all with my life. (ง •̀_•́)ง

I do have my own criticisms, but I don’t feel like getting into all that right now.

Returning to my roots in Ben 10 has truly been an experience. It has brought me back so much nostalgia and memories of my earlier years on deviantART.

The classic series was what made me join dA in 2008; Alien Force was just starting out (it aired on my birthday 🥰 lkahsf) and I was drawing the aliens almost nonstop. My first deviation, if you dare to venture that far back in my gallery, is of Echo-Echo.

My art has only improved since then, thank Arceus. 😂

This love followed me all the way to college! If you look at my toy collection, you will see it’s practically all Ben 10 figurines. I’m certain my very first was a large Swampfire figure that shot colored goo from his hands.

I’m still collecting any that I see and want!

And now that I’ve rewatched the entire franchise, I can feel my creativity and urge to draw returning little by little. I was hoping to get this from Coco and Big Hero 6, but I felt myself lacking.

I suppose it was because I wasn’t exactly used to drawing skeletons, especially culturally important ones and felt intimidated by the cool armor designs and technological aspect that I didn’t quite understand enough. Something like that.

I was okay with humans and robots (Monsters vs. Aliens and Robotboy allowed me to draw a lot of those) but skeletons was a whole different ballpark. I struggled enough with drawing humans (skeleton hands were actually more fun to draw, though xD). As for Big Hero 6, I actually didn’t have any ideas. That pic of GoGo and Baymax was the first fanart I’ve done for it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I had trouble with trying to get my ideas down; I would try, sure, but I was never quite happy and it hurt because I wanted to draw my favorite characters to show my love to the fandoms. I was happy to be in them and talk to/meet new friends, as I was with MvA and Robotboy, but I couldn’t produce art as much as I would have liked for them and it just put me into a funk.

Dude, That’s My Ghost! and Robotboy helped me out for awhile, but once my hyperfixation shifted into Coco, I felt like I was immediately drained of creativity.

It’s why I switched to doing fanfics about it, instead. Writing was somewhat easier. That and making random analysis posts, gifs, and taking screencaps to share. Ditto with BH6. At least I was contributing in some way and I did enjoy making those posts and seeing people discuss over them!

I do the same with Ben 10 but I can actually draw for it like I used to! I just have a lot more fun drawing the aliens and other characters. There’s a lot of aliens and each-well, most-of their designs are just fantastic and I itch to draw my favorites, again.

I also really want to redraw my first OCs that was born from it!

(you can be mad at me for abusing what I think was the burn tool aldkshf. Past me was an idjit who didn’t know how to shade properly :P)

They’re in serious need of redesign for Omniverse (in my style though) and I’ve gotten a few ideas for them! Not only that, but, with the case of my “Alien Dads” idea, people are actually wanting to draw and write about them???? And I haven’t drawn them, myself yet????

You have no idea how ecstatic and touched that makes me feel!!!

Everyone who has OCs can relate!!! It’s showing that other people besides yourself actually care about your babies! I had the same thing happen when I drew Jade, Aqua, and Split! Heck, someone even adopted Split and incorporated her into his own story!

I can’t wait to draw the Alien Dads and share them! You have no idea how bad I want to give Ro more alien uncles other than Nik. xDDD

Talking with the same friends has allowed me to come up with some cute design ideas!!! I also want to redesign my Ben 10 persona and update my profile pic.

I especially would love to draw a lot more of my phantom ice-moth husband! :D

Project V Update

I hate calling it that lol, but as a working title it worked I guess haha. Anyways, I felt like I should update everyone on the project.

First off, it has a new name and it’s now called Ambrose, so if you see any future posts it will be tagged and titled with that.

Not only is there a major name change, now being Ambrose, which means Immortal, there’s also been a major plot change, and yes it’s a story still based in space, but the concept and experiences these characters go through is nothing similar to VLD, which was the goal.

I’m honestly over the disappointment I had with Voltron. I honest to God mean that. I celebrate the things I liked about it, but I’ll admit unhappiness really just pushed inspiration. So I created these characters and even discussed the possible plot ideas with my brother ( who writes the scripts and stuff) and we actually have a solid story concept.

The plot is actually incorporated into the 4UComics Universe (4U makes Daemons Venatus which can be read on webtoon), and yeah, that’s not the only story we make, we have a shit ton of other ideas that basically creates an entire universe. So that being said I can’t exactly talk about the story plot, because it will give away key points to other major stories and series we hope to make in the future. But what I can discuss is the new names, and the design concepts so far for Ambrose.

Disclaimer: I’m aware these character designs are VERY similar to the character of VLD. They’re still ‘work in progress’, or better as trial’n’error but at least they’ll give you an idea of what they’re going to look like. To be fair too, two of them came along way from being rip-off Leakira, though they kinda look like Leakira wannabe’s still. THEIR DESIGNS WILL CHANGE TO SOMETHING MORE UNIQUE IN THE FUTURE AS WE WANT THIS TO BE AS ORIGINAL AS POSSIBLE. I was just experimenting with styles and .. unfortunately my *cough*klance*cough* biases came into play haha.

Without Further adieu, here are the characters of Ambrose!

Keep in Mind: Names have meanings to who the characters are, and I wanted to keep elements incorporated.

Christian Emilio Lee Sanchez: [Christian - follower of christ; Emilio - Industrious: Diligent and hard-working; Lee - “Sheltered Side”; Sanchez - Set apart as or declared holy.]

Nickname: Goes by Lee for short Heritage: Latino/--- Weapon: I wanted to keep the sharpshooter style, but again it’s very Lance/Leandro-Like, but who knows. Personality: Suave, Cunning, Charming to the point where it’s sometimes downright obnoxious.

Bonus Reference Layout Wip:

Akira Clark: [Akira: Sunlight and Moonlight/ Light coming from the sun/ Bright; Clark: A Scribe.]

Nickname: Just goes by Akira. I actually love the name Akira, so please don’t bug me about it. Heritage: Korean Weapon: Staff and Agility Personality: Quiet, Kind, Mysterious, can be snarky/sassy and will talk back. Cynical at times, but protective, and sometimes sarcastic. (Basically I wanna explore, but put emphasis on snarky/sassy but friendly/kind, and quiet and mysterious to others.)

Aurora: [Aurora: Mythical Roman Goddess of the Dawn]

Nickname: Ro; Named after one of the strongest and most beautiful women I know in my life - my mom :3 Heritage: Unnamed Alien Race atm Weapon: Unknown atm Personality: Head strong, Mom-Like, Caring, Determined, Intelligent. Fun Fact: I adore the Tales of Series and my favourite game is Tales of Vesperia. Aurora’s race is mildly inspired by the krityan race within the game.

Lani Kameāloha: [Lani - Hawaiian for Sky; Kameāloha - “The beloved one”]

Nickname: Call him Lani - I’m well aware he legit looks like Black Shiro right now, but that will CHANGE. Also before anyone asks, no he does not die. Nor dies and comes back. Heritage: Hawaiian Weapon: Unknown atm Personality: Cunning, Tactical. Dad-Like. Strong, Courageous. If you hurt his unintentional adopted kids and intentional adopted brother, you should run.

Okay so the Character designs aren’t as thought out as much from here on out, but I do have at least sketches to include with the names.

Terra (Ptera) (Unknown Last Name atm): [Terra - The planet Earth. Famous bearer: mythological Terra, the Roman Earth Goddess of the Greek Gaia.]

Nickname: Ptera, cause she loves Dinosaurs. Gremlin - Love Lee Heritage: Greek Weapon: Unknown atm Personality: Intelligent, cynical, hot-headed. Sarcastic. Her and Akira get along well. Fun fact: She has a little keychain of a Brachiosaurus that she lovingly calls Barry.

Halle Paea: [Halle: “Rock/Little Rock”; Paea: Polynesian/Samoan]

Nickname: Stud Muffin; Thanks Lee; you’re welcome <3 Just goes by Halle. Don’t worry, he’s used to people bringing up the actress. Weapon: Unknown atm/Giant Hammer (wip) Personality: Unsure, worrisome. Cool, logical. Fun fact: His Dad’s a dick.

Not!Coran and unamed main character:

And finally, I do want an equivalent to Coran, but, Coran Coran the Gorgeous man is just so unique already. This version, he would probably go back to his roots, similar to his counter part in the original DotU where he is the primary caregiver to Aurora, almost like a father for her, who keeps her calm, gives wisdom and opinions in ties of crisis and can always be relied on. I also wanted to bring back in the mistress/maid woman that also helped care for Allura as well. Her design may be recycled from a concept drawing for a Helsa fanfic I had been working but never finished, and would have more use for in this.

IcyPanther’s Fanart Contest Judging and Statistics Post

First off, I would like to say thank you so so so so so much to the amazing artists who participated in this contest. We ended with a total of 17 entries which means I am awarding the tier one and two prizes; a 5k-7k fic of choice and a 2k-3k whump trope prompt fic, respectively.

A few (fun?) statistics about the entry selections:

17 total entries

As Color Fades Away: 11 entries

The Purity of Sin: 2 entries

Disjointed Soul: 3 entries

(Un)breakable Bonds: 1 entry

Hope: The Truest Treasure and Burning Bright series: 0 entries

Of the 11 entries for Color... 5 of them were of the same scene. I’m dying xD (Lance is too jajajaja *shot* *stabbed* *shot again*)

A number of people reported this was their first time drawing/drawing this way and I’m so touched you were inspired by my works to do so!

Only one misspelling of my name in tags and it wasn’t “icypanter” so I’ll take it ;p

One entry submitted on the first day of the contest opening (well, within 24 hours)

Six entries received on the last day of the contest (one with literally four minutes to spare ;p)

JUDGING

Judging is being done on a number of categories for a most fair assessment across the board. As I stated in the original contest post, this is not just an art contest to where the most talented artist gets the win. I wanted people of all talent levels to participate and have a chance because that’s what makes it fun ♥

On that note, there are a total of five categories that were considered during judging. Each category awards a point of one to three, so a perfect entry would have a score of fifteen (these numbers are privy only to me though ;p) The breakdown is as follows:

Artistic Talent

This category still gets a nod because I would like to acknowledge the entries that are beautifully executed in regards to composition, proportions, shading, colors, linework, etc. That talent is a hard-earned skill and should be commended ♥

Effort

While all of the judging categories carry equal weight this is a personal big one for me. I put a lot of effort into my works and will most definitely do the same to the contest prize. That means that I want to see that same dedication and effort reflected back at me. This is where I may read your descriptions (and tags!) – did you try something new? Did you agonize over a portion of it? Did you put in far, far more hours than you thought you would? Can I *see* the time and love you put into your work? I work hard, I like to reward those that do the same.

Execution

And uh, not the guillotine version. This is in reference to how well your idea came through of your piece. I’m looking at pose, at style, at color (or lack thereof, depending ;p), any “methods” you used to make your piece pop and why, at placement, at scene selection at the *feeling* conveyed… all those good things ♥

Adherence to Source Material

AKA the detail category. This is where I look to see how accurate your artwork is to the related fanfic. Are the clothes what that character is actually wearing in that scene? Bandages/injuries/scars/marks/whatever in the right spot? Are the expressions accurate? Characters in the right place in the scene (right season too? ;p)? I *thrive* on the small details so seeing how closely you’ve read the fanfic and incorporated those details into your art is a big deal for me.

Level of Difficulty

This category awards points based on the perceived level of difficulty the artwork tackled. Just like some Olympic events (gymnastics, figure skating, diving, etc.) the potential scores are calculated based upon certain elements to the routines because athletes (and artists in this case) should be rewarded for attempting more difficult and complicated items. So for this judging I’m looking at pose (dynamic vs still), backgrounds (complex vs simple), characters (one vs many), detail (line work, flat color or shaded and how) and giving nods to those that really pushed for the stars.

From these criteria I will be selecting the top five highest ranked entries and my sister will assist me in choosing a first and second place winner from those. The winner will be announced tomorrow at about 1500 CST.

Today though is all about this celebration of talent and love and passion as everyone is a winner in my book for being amazing and participating in the contest. Thank you all so so much ♥

I will be reblogging all of the entries throughout the day, starting in about half an hour and onwards till 1800 CST. To eliminate any posting bias, I numbered the entries by submission order and then used a random number generator (clicking multiple times in some cases due to repeats xD) until I got through the list. Hehe xD Due to not wanting to cause any perceived bias I am limiting myself to one comment in each reblog (as you guys have seen me write love letters before xDD) about the art but please know that every single one made me squeal, gush and arm flail. ♥

Writer’s Questionnaire

I was tagged by @gothkimmyschmidt, thank you!!

Short stories, novels, or poems? I used to write quite a lot of poems, but these days I mostly write short fiction! Although my short stories are getting longer and longer as I learn how to actually write a plot.

What genre do you prefer reading? When it comes to fanfics, romance all the way. When it comes to novels... I’m a sucker for post-apocalyptic, and anything with good lgbt characters.

What genre do you prefer writing? Same answer!! Romance for fics, post-apocalyptic for original fiction. Though that might change once I finally manage to write that post-apocalyptic novel that’s been sitting in my brain ever since I was 16.

Are you a planner or a write-as-I-go kind of person? I tend to plan quite a lot. Either by daydreaming about it for a very long time, or by actually sitting down and drawing charts to get my plot to make sense.

What music do you listen to while writing? I get something to match the mood I need, which usually means I go to one artist/song/album which I know works well, and I then trust the Spotify algorithm.

Fave books/movies? Favourite book series is Mallorie Blackman’s Noughts and Crosses. It was such a formative story, both as a writer and as a person. When it comes to movies....I love many, many of them, but few have been as important to child me as Pirate of the Caribbean, so let’s go with this.

Any current WIPs? So..many..... my Zevistair brothel AU is the only one being published, but there’s like ten other projects in the making ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If someone were to make a cartoon out of you, what would your standard outfit be? Black jeans, black Docs, grey hoodie. Headphones.

Create a character description for yourself. She’s often lost in her own mind, smiling at a thought she just had, ducking her head to hide her amusement. She doesn’t sit properly in chairs, unless she really has a reason to. She bites her lips, bites her fingers, twists her hair, even though you’d think it’s too short to be twisted.

Do you like incorporating people you actually know into your writing? No, I don’t really do that. I never feel the need to, and I don’t think I know enough people anyway.

Are you kill-happy with characters? Not that much? I used to be, when I was an Emo teen with loads of Emo Energy to offload. Now I only kill a character if it’s the most satisfying end to its arc.

Coffee of tea while writing? Tea for fiction, coffee for my personal journals! It’s just a matter of logistics: I write fiction at home, where I have loads of tea but no way of making coffee, but I update my journal in coffee shops, where I like getting fancy coffees.

Slow or fast writer? I’m soooo slow. I spend ages daydreaming my plot, and then while writing I stop every three sentences to proofread. And that’s not even counting the amount of breaks I take to browse tumblr for no reason other than I got bored. I’m not great at focusing.

Where/who/what do you find inspiration from? Other fanfictions, fanart, music, TV shows..... I grab ideas wherever I can find them.

If you were put into a fantasy world, what would you be? Uhhhh useless poet

Most favourite book cliché? Least favourite book cliché? Found family found family found family!!!!! And my least favourite one would be any of the overdone straight™️ tropes, which ranges from the damsel to be rescued, to the general..cult of the Male character.

Fave scenes to write? All the bittersweet scenes, the awkward dialogue, the hesitant touches, every bit of body language heavy with meaning....OH YEAH BABEY

Most productive time of day for writing? Late evening. There’s something about it being 11pm that just...gives me a creative boost. It’s not ideal, when you’ve got classes the next day.

Reason for writing? Because I need to? Because I have stories in my head, and the easiest way for me to get them out there is to write them. If I don’t create, and if I don’t write, I....fade.

FAQ, RULES, AND GUIDELINES

GENERAL RULES & IMPORTANT INFORMATION

This fest is exclusively about bottom!jongin. He has to be the sub/bottom because it’s a bottom!jongin fest. All genres are encouraged and all ships are welcomed as long as Jongin is included in the main pairing and that the fanworks revolve around him.

Sensitive topics such as HEAVY VIOLENCE, DUBCON, CHARACTER DEATH etc., must be TAGGED and WARNED accordingly. Non-graphic violence is good to go! Sexual content is fine as long as it’s warned.

A minimum word count of 1,500 words unless stated otherwise (there is no maximum) is required to submit a final fic.

There are no limits to the number of prompts you can claim, however, you can only claim them one at a time.

Being a bottom does not necessarily mean that your fic has to be NC17 and sex has to be involved (e.g you can incorporate D/S themes/elements/undertones to your fic with Jongin as the sub while staying perfectly within PG13). Uniniverse fanwork doesn’t have to have smut. If your fic does include one, however heavy or light you choose to go with that is completely up to your discretion, but please tag accordingly.

Non-consensual sex and pedophilia are NOT ALLOWED.

Be friendly! Keep up the good spirits and conviviality; let’s create a genial community!

Be respectful to everyone, including the rules stated above.

No “Koreanism” such as “annyeonghaseyo”, “oetteokhae”,etc. However, titles of respect such as oppa, hyung, halmeoni, etc, are fine to use.

➤ WHAT ARE THE WORKS ACCEPTED FOR THIS FEST?

Fanfictions

Fanarts, which includes drawings, paintings etc.

Fanedits, which includes edits, graphics, videos, etc

➤ HOW AM I TO WORK BASED ON THE PROMPTS?

For fanfiction: You will have to write a story according to the prompt you have chosen. It can be words to be inserted, actions, a specific universe, kinks, clichés, etc. The prompts are not to be seen as restrictions. They can be discreetly added in the work or be as prominent as you like. The whole purpose of this fest is to have fun!

➤ WHAT IS THE MINIMUM REQUIRED FOR MY WORK?

For fanfictions: Minimum word count is 1500 words. We don’t know if it’s incredibly long, but you have at least a month and a half to work on it, or maybe even more. When progress check-in comes, we’ll do a poll to ask if the participants are ready to send their fics to the mods, and if a lot of you aren’t ready just yet, we’ll give you an extension.

For Art: Artists have no minimum requirement, but please try to ensure that it is a finished piece of work. No rating restrictions too. A single piece of art, or even a series, that is complete is enough. However, you need to put some thought/effort into it.

For Edits: Editors have no minimum requirement, but please make sure it is a finished work that you are posting. There are no restrictions with ratings either, rated ones will be marked with a warning. IMPORTANT: Please only edit pictures and videos that are allowed to be edited (some fansites do not allow editing so play safe and use with approval from image/video source or official images).

Others: no idea, but if you want to do anything else than mentioned above, contact us so we can discuss it!

➤ ARE THERE ANY LIMITATIONS WHEN IT COMES TO RATINGS?

None at all! G, PG13, NC17, R. You name it! The ratings are up to you.

➤ IS IT REQUIRED TO PUT TRIGGER WARNINGS?

It is compulsory. It’s called a trigger warning for a reason. If your piece includes sensitive topics, such as dub-con/incest/mutilation to name a few, it’s best to attach warnings to your fic so readers who don’t like to read (explicit) works of this kind can avoid it beforehand.

➤ DOES THE FIC NEED TO BE A HAPPY ENDING?

Not necessarily. Happy, Sad/Tragic or Open endings, it’s up to you. You are the master of your own ship!

➤ WHY ARE THE PROMPTS AVAILABLE FOR CLAIM ONLY ONCE?

Simply for convenience, and the fact that it is the most suitable for this fest.

➤ WHERE WILL THE FEST BE HOSTED ?

There are two “official pages”; one on Tumblr and the other one on Archive of Our Own (AO3). Regular updates and such will most probably be managed through Tumblr and Twitter since it’s more convenient, while all the works will be posted on AO3 for the same reasons. Entries will be posted on AO3 and then shared through a link on Tumblr.

➤ IS IT OKAY IF I SUBMIT A WORK WITHOUT EDITING IT MUCH ?

Please try to proofread as much as you can. If there are obvious grammatical/spelling mistakes or other such things, the works may be sent back. If you want, you can find a beta in our archive, although it’s not required.

➤ WHY AO3? WHY DIDN’T YOU CHOOSE LJ/AFF/TUMBLR TO HOST THE FEST?

We chose this site based on the mods’ preferences.

➤ WHAT IF I DON’T FIND A PROMPT I LIKE IN THE PROMPT LIST?

If participants don’t see a prompt that they like but still want to participate, they can simply pick a prompt that they feel they can work around to incorporate their own ideas. Or in other words, you can self prompt!

➤ I DON’T KNOW IF I LIKE THE IDEA OF SENDING YOU MY WORK AND HAVING NO CONTROL OVER IT FOR A CERTAIN PERIOD OF TIME. WHAT IF YOU MESS WITH IT AND WHAT IF I WANT YOU TO TAKE IT DOWN LATER?

As a disclaimer, your work will not be touched unless there is a major problem e.g. formatting, or an excess of spelling mistakes. If it’s the case, we will seek you out to find a solution. After the fest ends, if you wish to publish this on your own page and take your work down the fest’s AO3 and Tumblr, please inform and update us with the link so we can post it instead.

➤ WHAT IF I NEED TO DROP OUT BECAUSE OF SOME REASON? IS THERE ANY CONSEQUENCE TO DROPPING OUT?

You can drop out of the fest anytime you want. We only ask that you inform us as soon as possible so we can free your prompt.

➤ WHERE DO I SUBMIT FIC/ART/EDIT?

For fanfics: Submission of fanfics will come with a submission form that is required to be filled in later on during deadline and the finished works will be asked to be sent to our email. ([email protected])

For fanarts: We are accepting fanarts throughout this fest meaning that you can post your finished work whenever up until the reveals date. Your work should be posted/tweeted on your own twitter/tumblr accounts with the hashtag #uniniversefest, we will be posting links to your original post from our tumblr/twitter.
