Okay Dany, convince me to ship Kidge. What is the appeal of this ship? (genuinely asking because I've only watched season 1 and I'm curious)

Not gonna lie anon, your question caught me off guard at 2am on a Sunday,, I was like 😳

“Oh shit someone's asking me?? About a ship?!” The intimidating question was so real and all I could do was literally go on a feral tirade on why I love Kidge so much and legit made no sense and just kept wondering in between moments of clarity on how I can properly defend myself on why I like the ship 😩 (not that I need to or have too, enough time has passed where I can say,,, just let me ship and be blissfully happy UwU, I do not car e anymore lol)

I will say that I want to keep this brief (as best I can, because heck I went feral just talking to myself on why I like the ship), I’m not the best at explaining things like some other amazing people might in the ship tag. But take what I say with a grain of salt and hope I don’t scare you off with whatever I do type.

**Note: This is not entirely brief liike how I wanted and I hate myself,, feck,,, I failed step one immediately**

Imma do bullet points, thoughts and prayers y'all cause I did my best to explain my chaotic thoughts lol ;;w;;

First and foremost! I definitely recommend that you watch the show in the general scope of a viewer and not just focusing on a ship. I think everyone should and would be aware of that~ but much like my initial watch I wasn’t paying much attention to the show and lore and story because I was distracted~. It wasn’t with Kidge at the time, but it definitely impeded my watch in the beginning as well as me falling off the fandom for a while into season 3-5. Plus, me rushing through those seasons when season 7 was coming around like, blood hell Alpha.

I think it goes without saying because the show is really good and love the found family aspect of it most importantly 👏🏼👏🏼 I am a sob and a fecking mess about this trope and I will forever cry over it.

I highly recommend watching the show in increments too instead of just binging it because you will lose information much faster 😭 and also it is just so fun to look forward to watch it the next day. I had so much fun this month just rewatching the show and am kind of depressed that it’s over lol 😔

Don’t cry because it’s over be happy for the journey (and all the fanfics you can reread again with full, understanding knowledge 😌)

Additionally, it is fun to reflect on the episodes re-watched, to better retain the info, at least for me, I can be slow with digesting new information (especially after so long), but it also made me giddy just talking to myself about the silly or serious shenanigans happening in the episode.

Second of all! I don’t want to convince you to ship Kidge 😩 I want you to convince yourself on why they would be good and cute together from your perspective! 👏🏼👏🏼

I personally think that they just work so well together, and while their initial interactions are short and brief, I love seeing them just standing next to each other or sharing panels during the fight sequences through much of the early seasons! I will say liike season 7 (even season 8) is like a holy grail for Kidge shippers because— 😩👏🏼 AH, took a while to get there, but we made it besties!!

Considering you’ve only seen season 1, I won’t dive into too many spoilers! To the best of my ability, I will say, I tended to focus on where the two stood by one another a lot and how they interacted in their lions and as Voltron and outside of it! ~

1. They both have family members/familial others on the trip to the Kerberos mission and just the whole concept of them looking for their respective familial figures.

Like that’s is the first part of the whole “WE COULD HAVE HAD IT ALL 😩” the way the two of them are shown to fight tooth and nail to save and go out of their way to figure out where their family members are is just 🤧✨ I truly believe if there was an opportunity to grow and develop them together it would have been over this.

I also find it incredibly fascinating that they are two of the most prominent characters that dive into their backstories in flashback sequences through the seasons ahead (we got a glimpse of Pidge's backstory in season 1 with a few more down the line). And how similar the two are in some of their experiences like school and being bullied and how their familial figures guide them (Shiro to Keith and Matt, and her father, to Pidge).

Hell, all of this could have been played as platonic all the way through or something more. Like I was there for it 👏🏼 I feel like this is a strong cemented stone on why I ship them a lot and keep me going on the potential their relationship could have been if they knew one another before the pilot episode. I just think it would have been cool, two conspiracy theorist bypassing the government to search for the truth!

2. They are literally the right and left arms of Voltron; the sword and shield ✨

I sincerely wish so much that again their relationship could have been developed more in the early seasons with this aspect, especially since we see how developed both Lance and Hunk are with each other (I mean they are literally best friends at the Garrison, I needed most of that with Kidge especially since they would be the opposite to them so it would have great to see them develop together as the arms of Voltron 🤧).

I just think it would have been nice to see it play out on how well they work together on the field and off it. I will say! It isn't all lost, especially into season 3 and like late season 6 and onwards! I say the dynamic of Shiro and Pidge in their lions and as Voltron currently is what kind of develops in Keith and Pidge later! I hope you can make sense of that later on as you keep watching 👀!

3. Other general things about their tropes and personalities just give me more fuel to ship them, such as:

Them both being introverted to heck in their respective ways; the techie nerd and the emo loner like,,, sillies!

I am always someone who loves looking at character color palettes and how they mesh well together; so believe me I lost my mind when Kidge shippers literally came up with Kidgemas cause of their red and green colors and I just *screams* 🌿🔥

I love both their personalities and how similar, yet different, they are to one another in that respect; they both have a drive and fire in them, their sarcasm and jibs to the others is so funny.

I'm not over season 1 episode,,, 2? Of the team training together and like,,, first of all, the two's small spat because Pidge couldn't concentrate during the mental exercise, but literally leaping to her defense when Allura threw food goo at her like,, Ah I just love her sarcasm to Allura then "The princess of what, your not ours--" and i just like go off queen, but also please no fighting 😩 y’all are going to be family ah,,, i love my dysfunctional family so much ya'll

Keith making a face at the action and immediately "Go loose, Pidge" LIKE AH! 👏🏼👏🏼😩😩

But they also have their calm moments of serene clarity and peace that is heighted with their interactions with the other characters as well!

I also noticed how they both tend to be the mature ones in some cases and some situations when around the other or a shared mature figure like Shiro; Keith by like a lot, clearly, but I was increasingly surprised by how Pidge maintained some serious temperament during missions, especially when around Hunk and most definitely around Lance lol (It is funny tho how serious and mildly annoyed she gets to his flirtatious ways, but can also immediately just let her guard down and have giddy fun with him when something catches her interest, it's so cute and hilarious 😌).

I also just love their development through the show of just letting their guard down around the others overtime! Especially with Keith and how his lone wolf personality melts away (believe me I lost my mind at how many sweet moments were between him and Hunk and IM just here crying at how Keith was able to smile and have fun around him 😭 💛❤️ got me all emotional i fecking criED). As well as Pidge with the others, especially after she told them about her true identity and how she wants to be able to work with them better without any secrets (On a side note, I wish there was more moments with Allura and Pidge earlier on ;;;o;;; SHE LEARNED ALTEAN FOR HER AND CORAN AND IM JUST,,, sweetie I love you! YOUR HONOR THEY ARE SISTERS! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼).

Ah shit, is that season 1 or 2? ;;w;; well, she learns it a nice fact! My girl is such a genius like how did she not like,,, move up grades in school, she is so intelligent , i could never. Not gonna lie, I feel like the team wouldn't be as successful with intel if they didn't have her and her tech wizard skills because DAMN.

Also how Keith was so up and arms when Pidge wanted to leave initially like!? Please ;;w;; sir has abandonment issues, please don't leave sweetie (´°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥ω°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥｀); but also a similar scene occurs, very briefly, later on in reverse :) so take that as you will! It is very small, almost negligible if you aren't paying attention to it.

It is made better by a concluding panel that Kidge shippers just lose their minds over ! (Me, I am kidge shippers and I lost my mind over and over because they are just — *cries and sobs* perfecto!)

Very minor thing, but the height difference (in general im weak in the knees for this) always gets me crying, screaming, throwing up, going feral on the ground. My dearest Pidge, she may gain some legs later in life, but like she is definitely still tiny and I sob, give us short queens some representation because it is so hard out here, and we will kill you (not Allura bending down to her height in that episode she was planning to leave; how NOT to talk to a short person Allura lol 😩)

I think it goes without saying that the whole team, including Keith, are protective of Pidge like as they should be and I just *grins mischievously* can say with confidence that he do 😌

Definitely more of a personal headcanon, and there is a Kidge art of it floating around somewhere in the tag, if they actually had more moments and trained together, but I love Pidge being taught on how to defend herself, especially one on one and like her managing to take down Keith in training and he's just like "⁉️⁉️😳⁉️⁉️” God, I love a woman that can kick my ass trope *chokes*.

I am a sucker for hearing their voices and tone and emotions, so you know for damn well I am listening to them just say the others name in a soft or sarcastic tone lol (I love Steven Yeun's voice, my Glenn 😭, I am a mess for not appreciating Keith before in my initial watch of the show).

Ah, I can go on and off about them, especially about the later seasons but like you're just going to have to take a look of it yourself as you go into it 😌

Once again, I definitely recommend you watch the show for what it is in its storytelling and lore and character development; you can keep a close eyed view of Kidge in the background, but definitely rewind for the moments or stop and pause or rewind for the information given in story.

I hope you enjoyed my nonsense speak and take something away from it or ignore it altogether. I don't mind, I want you, overall, to convince yourself on why you would like to ship Kidge as you watch the show, if at all! We are all here for a fun and good time after the show's initial debut 😌🌿🔥

Familial Ties

Familial Ties Fandom: Voltron: Legendary Defender Pairing: Kidge, Allurance; Confirmed and only kinda shown. Summary: Just some cute interactions between the children of some Paladins; inspired by my belief that Keith and Pidge would raise the most tight-knit kids in the whole wide world. Standard Disclaimer: If you read and enjoy this, please give it a like/ reblog so I know if I should write more.

The whimpering was hard to hear over the rattling of the ship, but Amber still caught it. She peered around at the other kids, doing a quick head-count, then frowned. “Aria,” She sighed to herself, heading over to where she believed the whimpering was coming from. It was the cabinet in the corner, where they normally kept spare blankets and pillows, and it tended to be her go-to hiding spot. She squatted down and gently rapped at the door. “Ari, can you come out from there?” She asked quietly.

“No!” Came the distressed, muffled reply.

“You know she never comes out when Mom and Dad are away in a battle,” Newt chimed from his perch on the couch, dangling halfway over the back.

Amber frowned slightly. It was true that their youngest sibling tended to be on the meeker side; she was easy to startle and hated confrontation. Back when they lived on Earth, it was okay because the most they ever dealt with was nasty bullies. And even then, between Amber and Kaden, bullies were easily dispatched. The current threat they faced, though, were hostile aliens that wanted a hostile takeover; enemies that only their parents could deal with.

Just a week ago, Dad had suffered a nasty injury and been forced to spend a whole day in one of the healing pods. Aria had been nearly inconsolable the entire time he was in there.

She glanced over her shoulder and watched as Alfor attempted to get his younger siblings in line as well. Cori and Paige were fretting over not being allowed out on the control deck, eager to rush out and find some way to help their own parents. Meanwhile, the twins – Ben and Tony – were just as frazzled and scared as Aria seemed to be, the two of them huddled by the couch and speaking in hushed tone to one another. Only Raya, the second oldest of the Altean heirs, seemed to be relatively unfazed; rather than focus on being upset, she had settled to instead start up another argument with Kaden. “Hey, Kaden, Raya, come here,” Amber said, waving her younger brother over as she stood back up.

The two paused in their argument, casting curious glances at one another, before heading over to her. Raya had settled one hand on her hip while Kaden cocked his head at her curiously. “What’s up?” He asked, tensing and wincing when Ben let out an even more distraught wail than his previous few. Raya looked over her shoulder at her younger brother, her façade of being aloof faltering and revealing how concerned she was for him.

“I need you two to do me a favor, okay? I’ve got an idea of how to get everyone settled in, but I need you two to get everyone gathered around the couch. And let Alfor know that he’s gonna be playing along, too,” She advised calmly.

“What should we do about Aria, though?” Raya asked worriedly, her blue and pink eyes swiveling over to the closed cabinet.

Amber glanced over before looking back at them. “Kaden, I know you can find a way to get her out. Give me less than ten minutes and I’ll be back, okay?” She said seriously.

Raya still seemed dubious but Kaden nodded, expression serious. “Got it,” He said, flashing her a quick thumbs up. She smiled and ruffled his hair affectionately before darting off, grateful that they were still extremely close despite a four year age gap.

Normally they weren’t supposed to leave the commons room during a battle unless it was an emergency. The commons was in the dead center of the ship, so it was the safest place for them while there was an attack. Amber figured that just running out for two seconds would be fine, though, so she quickly scampered off to the hanger and looked around. Mom kept tablets in one of the drawers of her desk for each of the kids that had some gaming, education and literacy apps on it. They had all been wired together so that all four of them could access all the apps, as well as any other downloaded or purchased materials. She checked to make sure they had what she wanted, loaded it up on all the tablets, grabbed the little holo-disc and headsets Mom had designed to partner with them, and then scrambled back to the commons room.

When she walked in, Kaden and Raya had managed to get everyone in order like she had requested. Aria was curled up under Newt’s arm on the floor, sniffling and whimpering in distress as the whole area shook. Amber darted over and shoved the tablets at Kaden, Raya and Alfor. “I’ll read the narrations and split half the female characters with Raya. You two, divide up the male characters between yourselves,” She said quickly, then offering them each one of the headbands.

Raya tilted her head curiously. “Are we going to read a story?”

“Yes, now everyone sit down and follow along,” She hissed quietly, shoving the headband on and setting the little holo-disc right in front of the gathering of younger kids. She plopped down on the couch, Kaden and Alfor settling on either side of her. Newt looked at her with a quirked eyebrow but she flashed a reassuring smile before clearing her throat and turning her attention to the tablet in her hands. “’ A half-moon glowed on smooth granite boulders, turning them silver. The silence was broken only by the ripple of water from the swift black river and the whisper of trees in the forest beyond…’” She made sure to speak with fervor, trying to set the mood of the opening battle scene of the book. She felt pride as the younger children ceased their whimpering and turned their attention to her, their interest piqued.

“How do you think the kids are hanging in?” Lance asked as they headed to the commons room after the battle.

“I’m sure they’re doing fine, Lance,” Allura said, clearly trying to reassure him. Where Allura had faith in confidence in their children, Lance sometimes struggled with remembering that their kids were no longer little tots struggling to string words along.

“Amber and Alfor typically do pretty good at keeping them all calm,” Keith agreed.

“For the most part. Sometimes even they can’t keep them calm, though,” Pidge said, concern sneaking into her tone the closer they got to the room.

All four of them tensed at a thunderous wailing that could only belong to a small group of grade-school aged kids. Lance rushed forward, frantic with concern, only to stop short after entering the room.

“He did it! Rusty beat him!” Ben said excitedly, eyes fixated on the shimmering holographic cats displayed by the holo-disc all the children had crowded around.

“I told you he would!” Newt scoffed with a smug grin, little Aria sitting in his lap facing the whole spectacle with bright eyes.

Paige giggled then perked up, her pink and blue eyes glinting when she spotted her parents. “Mother! Father! You’re back!” She said, darting over eagerly and hugging Lance’s legs tightly.

He smiled and leaned down, running one hand through her short silver locks and beaming at her. “Were you all okay? Are you scared still?” He asked gently.

“We were for a bit, but then Amber started telling us this really cool story!” Ben joined in as he darted over to hug Allura.

“Oh did she?” Pidge asked, a proud smile on her lips as she looked over at her oldest child.

Amber flushed and quickly looked back down at her tablet. “W-Well, I figured, this was what you and Dad did with me when I was little and got nervous,” She mumbled quietly.

“Do you wanna listen, too?” Ben asked, tugging lightly on Allura’s hand.

“Well, what’s the story about?” She giggled, letting her son lead her over to the little clutter they’d formed around the projector.

“It’s a story about this cat named Rusty who wants to become a Warrior and join a Clan!” Tony chimed in eagerly.

Keith smiled as he walked in as well, settling in beside Newt. Immediately Aria clamored from her brother’s lap to Keith’s, snuggling up against him excitedly. “I take it you’re enjoying the story, too?” He mused, smiling over the top of her head at Pidge settling in on Newt’s other side.

She nodded before looking up at her sister with wide, hopeful eyes. “You’ll keep reading, right?” She asked.

Amber smiled and nodded. “We should at least finish the chapter, right?” She teased, looking at the other three older kids. They all nodded and she watched as Allura and Lance settled in as well, huddling up with their other children as well. She then cleared her throat and looked back down at her tablet before declaring, “At once, Bluestar leaped down from the Highrock and silenced the noisy crowd with a thunderous caterwaul…”

An Unlikely Couple

Serial Killer Keith x Writer Pidge

(Inspired by the joke in @flannelfangirl fic: Tread Marks.

Pidge was always told that she shouldn't put all her eggs in one basket. She was a smart girl - she had her doctorate in astrophysics at 25, at a young age, she's worked on so many things, patented even more.

But, her friends told her to stop burying herself in work and try something new. So she did. Now, she's attempting to write a novel. She's read so many murder mysteries, so she decided to write one herself. But alas, she's stuck on a murder scene.

She would've tried to search for it on Google, but then again, she didn't want to raise suspicions at the company so she kept silent.

"Ah shit." She grumbled. She threw her head back and frowned. Her coffee sat on the table, her cake slice barely touched.

"Your serial killer is dumb." A voice said. Pidge's eyes snapped open and she rose up and looked at the source of the voice.

"And you are...?"

The raven-haired man shrugged. "Just a man who read your draft."

"And who gave you that permission?"

"You left it wide open on the table."

"That still didn't give you the right."

"Anyway, the killer is a fool. You can't kidnap someone like that. Chloroform doesn't work immediately. It takes about five minutes."

Pidge raised her eyebrow. "And how would you know that?"

The raven-haired man leaned back and smirked. "I'm a serial killer." He folded his arms, looking smug.

Pidge laughed. It resounded throughout the café. The raven-haired man didn't seem fazed.

"You're a serial killer?! What a joke!"

"You don't believe me? Fine. Wait until I show up in your house with a cutlass."

"I dare you, bitch."

Lionheart: Mages of Voltron

Bonus: Long-haired Keith

Being Half-Galra, Keith is able to use two separate Fires - the regular Fire of heat and destruction and an unusual Purple Flame that which was the combination of his father's magic and his mother's abilities.

After finding the Blue Lion and getting carried to the floating Castle, Keith became Voltron's Red Mage, his Lion and partner being Désordre - The Red Lion Deity of Fire and Chaos.

Out of the other five (yes, there are Six Mages of Voltron), Keith was the first one to bond completely with his Lion, so much so that Désordre is able to manifest in a form of Keith.

Both Mage and Lion are like two peas in a pod —hotheaded, audacious, impulsive and share one brain cell. The two, on their good days, are nothing but the embodiment of chaos, hence the nickname given to them by Lance: "The Chaotic Duo."

Additionally, both are proficient with Swords, Désordre being hailed as not only a Deity of Fire and Chaos, but Swords as well.

He is the son of Keith and Katie Alexander, the Black and Green Paladins of Voltron. This boy be low on caffeine, low on hacking prowess, but damn, he sure is high on sass.

When he was much younger, Lance always volunteers to babysit because Kelsey is packing those snarky comments, it's never a dull moment with the brat around.

The Sword and Shield

The Voltron:LD Shield Hero AU wherein Pidge is Naofumi and Keith is Raphtalia. Dunno if this has been done before...

The thought came when I saw something about Shield Hero S2, and I felt VLD's recurring Sword and Shield theme could be applied (with a dash of romance, of course!)

Also, the original backstories of the Shield Hero characters cannot be applied here.

After journeying together for weeks, probably months, feelings start to catch and Pidge learning more about Keith’s past and how he had no one but Shiro (who's now missing) and he feels like giving up because life is throwing all sorts of shit their way, Pidge says the above...

(I'm weak.)
