#It is incredibly funny that for a fandom that is ostensibly about books

🌝 + 🧠 (Doesn't have to be exclusively for OPM necessarily, although I prob won't know what you're talking about for other fandoms, lol)
Gahh! Thank you so much for asking <3 you are the best.
🌝 Who is one character you haven’t yet written for that you would like to?
this was difficult to answer because for better or worse, a lot of my writing ideas appear as intrusive thoughts when I should be doing other things. there really isn’t a character that interests me that I haven’t written for in some way/shape/form, even if I haven’t published it yet, especially within the OPM-verse.
I think I'd like to do a bit more with Mumen Rider. I think Mumen tends to appear in fic as an Author’s Darling, almost—and for the record, I do this also--if I need a sweet, upstanding cinnamon role to always say the right thing at exactly the right time, I'll use Mumen Rider (like when he's giving Garou parenting advice in Holiday Hijinks).
Anyway, I imagine him like this although in canon, his decisions are ostensibly selfless but still somewhat questionable (and I joke a little bit about this in The Hero Association's First and Final Festivus, when Mumen attempts to do a self-deprecating standup routine in front of his colleagues.) The first rule of emergency response, for example, is "stay in your lane, and don't create more work for the rescue team." Also, he attacked Garou first, from behind. (oh man, when I went back and read the manga after watching the anime, I wrote 'Mumen rider struck first????' on a big ole post-it note because I thought I was reading it wrong).
I think a lot of the sweetest, kindest people have spent a lot of time fighting their inner shadows, because (like we see in Mob Psycho), kindness is a muscle that has to be actively exercised and mindfully developed, and it’s also a muscle that fatigues. So I'd like to see Mumen Rider grappling with how to be a good person. I've thought about this, but I haven't figured out a way to execute it quite yet—whenever I try, he just comes out too similar to the way I write Garou. Probably I will figure it out after spending a bit more time in Mumen's head.
Anyway, if I were ever to write a Mumarou fic, it would be either the sweetest thing ever or the absolute darkest thing ever. I would also like to write a crossover where Mumen is actually Gojo Satoru, this massively over-powered and insufferable character widely considered by his community to a kind of "Chosen One," who, having spent an entire lifetime living under intense and overwhelming pressure, just wants to bike around and touch grass and rescue cats from trees and maybe lose a fight once in awhile, knowing that Saitama's got his back. Gojo's Cursed Technique (magical power) requires him to cover his eyes most of the time, and he has very distinctive features so this could easily work in an AU where we never see Mumen Rider without his biker gear.
🧠 What’s an idea you have that you can’t quite call a WIP yet?
Okay, funny you should ask that question, Bestie, because I might ask for your help with this one day. It's an OPM / welcome-to-nightvale crossover:
Tumblr media
I use Discord to keep tabs on my WIP notes, and these are literally the only notes I have. Here's a transcription/translation because these notes are somewhat incomplete
Garou taking Tareo to the library for books. Garou saying it will be fun, libraries (“you mean books?” “Books too but mostly libraries”) are fun but also incredibly [[Note: apparently I did not finish this sentence, which is a problem I have often]]
Opening is sweet but then maybe vague mention of “librarian repellent” (Tareo wonders why Garou doesn’t bring any). Garou says “like a librarian would get me down” [[Note: basically, the first scene would be a bait-and-switch, playing around with irony and what most people would picture when tasked with imagining two kids visiting the library]]
When Garou and Tareo arrive, Genos is just very calmly in the library fighting off librarians. Saitama came because he’s bored. or he’s on a quest to not come home with his memory wiped, holding 33 copies of Helen Hunt’s biography. “You too, huh?” Garou says [[Note: this is a frequent occurrence in Nightvale]]
Anyway, for those of you unfamiliar with Welcome to Nightvale, here's what the Nightvale Library is all about:
The Night Vale Public Library is a notable landmark in Night Vale, although there is widespread dissatisfaction with the library among the town's citizens. Its available public computers are outdated and slow, they provide a lending period of only fourteen days, and the Biography section contains nothing but 33 copies of the official biography of Helen Hunt. There have been reports of a faceless spectre who roams through the Biography section, bringing visitors to an untimely end. Cecil expresses his desire for the City Council to make some serious changes to the library, "or I may find myself hoping that the faceless spectre puts the library to the same mysterious, violent end as its many victims."
Unidentifiable black metallic trees suddenly appeared by the library back in June, causing all airborne objects above 30 feet to catch fire. They were cleared away to make room for a new strip mall and parking lot.
It's creepy. It's weird. It's got books—Garou would love this, and he would have certainly survived the summer reading program.
The Summer Reading Program was is was an annual event held at the Night Vale Public Library in a group of kids and teenagers are trapped in the library and possibly forced to learn.
It was abolished around 1983 following an incident known only as "The Time of Knives." During the 2013 program, fourteen students between the ages of 5 and 17 were kidnapped by librarians and trapped in the library. The number later grew to nearly 100 children and teens before the program officially began that day. It was during this event that Tamika Flynn, 12-years-old at the time, battled librarians for the first time. Her triumph established her combat and leadership skills, and the severed head of the librarian served as a reminder of her battle in the summer reading program of 2013.
To promote the 2013 event, posters were placed around town, unbeknownst to the stores they were put on. Some of them read:
- Get into a good book this summer We are going to force you into a good book this summer - You are going to get inside this book, and we are going to close it on you and there is nothing you can do about it
All with the tagline "Catch the flesh-eating reading bacterium!"
Truly, the Summer Reading Program Garou needs and deserves. I've got a decent amount of headcanon but no real plot.
Thank you so much for asking! these are always fun to do.
(original post is here--the ask is still open, I always love talking about my fics, haha)

Only warrior cats fandom would have a collective misremembering of the first main character's final death scene that just went completely unresolved for months. Nobody could decide if Firestar died from his wounds or because a tree fell on him or some combination of these two or WHAT.
Why?
Because none of us actually read the book. Everyone was going based off what they'd seen in AMVs, and even though a quick re-read of that scene would have made the answer clear, we just continued collectively not really being sure what happened without any desire to do the one thing that would have given us the answer.

My Little Pony: A New Generation Review
By ME, Ponyguru! Because you were all waiting for it, I’m sure! (Hee hee!)
The movie has been out for a couple of days, so I’ll list my general opinion, then add some spoilery bits behind a cut, in case you haven’t seen it yet! It’s on Netflix right now, but I’m sure (if the fandom is keeping up its pace) it’ll be mirrored elsewhere pretty soon.
So, overall: I liked the first MLP movie more than this one. (No, not the 80s one, I mean the one with Tempest Shadow!) That’s not to say that this movie wasn’t enjoyable! It was very fun, and I got some genuine laughs and ‘OMG did you see that?!’ moments out of it. I became invested in the characters! I will be watching it again! And considering that I’m not the market audience (adult woman in her 30s), that’s probably pretty good! But then again, I have watched some truly questionable stuff in the name of pony, so take that as you will.
Highlights: new pony content (always fun!), fun jokes, intriguing plot, nice songs, and the ponies are not quite as human-shaped as I had been afraid. The muzzles are actually pretty well defined from the side, so they look much less like humans than I had feared, based on screencaps and vectors. I was also worried it was going to be Social Justice Lite based on some plot spoilers, so the fact that it wasn’t (and didn’t devolve into Br*ny memes or fandom references) had me incredibly relieved. This may make me more forgiving of the movie as a whole than the average viewer, due to the psychic damage I’ve taken from viewing the Brone Documentary.
Lowlights: the plot feels rushed at the end, the resolution feels hurried; the fact that the villains are never really, uh, addressed? feels weird (I guess I’m used to the clear-cut ‘you are defeated and will face punishment/get redeemed’ pattern from G4), the music isn’t as catchy or hummable as the first movie (none of the songs ‘stuck’ with me, meanwhile Tempest Shadow’s ‘Open Up Your Eyes’ literally stuck with me to the point that I had to buy the soundtrack), some of the characterization feels very shallow and, again, rushed. I felt there was a moment where Izzy referenced not having many friends, and I thought there would be some kind of exploration of that... nope, rushing into another musical number! And, finally, after years of BLM and police brutality protests, the choice of villain feels timely (trying to be vague for the sake of spoilers)... but when one of their ‘friends’ is a ‘by the book, we gotta follow the law’ cop (which they try to soften by calling him a ‘sheriff’, which doesn’t work in a non-American West themed world), makes me distrust him more than anything. I don’t really want to see MLP redeem a cop; I want MLP to be outside of that kind of real-world ugliness. Pony xenophobia is one thing, but pony police forces feel like a step too far, at least in our current society. Even if he’s voiced by the handsome James Marsden!
Okay, some spoilery thoughts beneath the cut! Thanks for reading this far!
Only keep reading if you’ve seen the movie! I’m not kidding about spoilers! :P Proceed with caution!
Tumblr media
Okay, so, the villain: ostensibly, it’s Sprout, right? The overpowered cop who has a grandiose sense of self, seizes power, literally pilots a pony-robot and smashes up Sunny’s home.
Why the fuck is his mother allowed to, what, remain in power in Maretime Bay? The movie ends, and it’s all “whoopsie-doopsie, I know I was a xenophobic war-profiteer who fed my followers a fake sense of fear and urgency to the point of creating a mob mentality for the sake of capitalism, but since my son (who I groomed for this) built a Gundam I guess I get off scott free!” What the fuck? First of all, Karen would have been a more fitting name than Phyllis in this case (although Phyllis is funny too, ngl), but she’s allowed to just ... stay in power? We see her standing next to the pegasus and unicorn leaders at the end of the movie, vowing to abolish xenophobia or whatever, but why the hell isn’t she in chains??? (And yes, I’m sure it’s partly because it’s a children’s movie, but that doesn’t mean we should see her face ZERO repercussions!) Alphabittle and the pegasus queen aren’t great leaders, sure; but we also don’t see extended scenes of them war profiteering, either. They both seem like more capable leaders than Phyllis!!
The other ponies, like I said, felt pretty flat, characterization wise; the vibe I got from the movie was that Izzy was incredibly lonely, which while it sets us up nice for some more character exploration in the miniseries, you need to have ... SOME, for the movie itself? Pipp was a super-fun character for me, but that’s because I basically just viewed her as Ariana Grande the pony. I also was waiting for an explanation of why Hitch was so magnetic to animals that ... never happened. Does he eventually get out of sheriffing to be a friend to the animals? Who knows!
I did like how we saw the differentiation between technology levels in the movie; the unicorn forest seemed to have very little if none, whereas earth ponies were more mid-level technology, and pegasi ponies seemed very high-tech. The little advertising/influencer references I caught were all very fun, but I wish they had leaned into the pony references a little harder, like in Zootopia. The icon they used for the pony news show seemed to just be the CBS eye icon. Do ponies have CBS? It felt kind of lazy. That said, I thought I’d hate ponies with cell phones, but they made it very fun, so I enjoyed it! (I definitely had the ‘ha ha, I do that!’ kind of amusement.)
Like I said, the ending felt rushed, and it felt a little bit ‘okay movie’s over now, let’s wrap it up!’ kind of feeling. Okay, Sunny got wings and a horn; it felt almost, idk, a foregone conclusion? Almost like a letdown, like it was so hurried it didn’t feel like it gave the proper payoff. The return of alicorn magic should be a HUGE DEAL, but maybe because her dad was fridged for drama (which never really happened? it felt brushed aside unless Sunny needed to have a 30-second depression which she immediately got over) we didn’t have anyone with the knowledge base to point out how important that was for the other ponies/the viewers.
Did I mention yet that I still don’t like the idea of having cops as sympathetic characters in the movie, even if they don’t call them cops, even if they have a good cop/bad cop dynamic to make us empathize with one? Because TBH, Hitch was not very endearing to me for a lot of the time (”I love rules” isn’t gonna sell it to me or to kids, I imagine), and the fact that he was a shitty friend to the orphaned Sunny didn’t endear him to me, either. I’m sure it was supposed to show his character growth - first he’s just Phyllis’ lackey, but soon he grows into his own man who sides with Sunny because it’s morally right - but I didn’t really feel that payoff very strongly. I mean ... he’s still a sheriff at the end, right?
All in all, I may just be more critical of this movie because A) I’m an adult and B) I’m viewing it through the eyes of a fan who enjoyed years of pony stories. It may be that all of my nitpicking is something that they chose to gloss over for the sake of the runtime or the young viewers! But I wouldn’t be a fan if I didn’t nitpick, so maybe my nitpicking will be fun to read, at least! I’m curious to see how my viewpoints change after I watch it again, or read more fandom insight. I know I’m someone who goes ‘woah, I didn’t think of that!’ when I read other peoples’ opinion pieces!
While on one hand I do hope the Br*ny thing dies, I hope that the same level of fandom interest won’t fade. I’ve gotten spoiled over the years by having tons of fan art, fan fiction, merchandise info and immediate uploads of episodes to enjoy. I will be very sad if that dies, but if it’s the sacrifice that we need to make to end the B-word stuff, it’s a trade I’m willing to make. Either way, I’ll still be here enjoying pony stuff, and making my own content! It’s just nice to do it with other people!

oof hey i hope i'm not bothering you, and i asked jury this already (and deffo got a good answer but i need all the info i can get because i am crushingly insecure)- do you have any tips on characterizing/writing the deh characters? i struggle with it immensely and I have no idea why, and you're one of my favorite writers for this fandom. so. no pressure to respond i was just curious!
sure! the only characters i write regularly/feel confident in writing are evan, jared, and alana, so those are the characters i’ll talk about the most, but i’ll try to say something for all of them. also this will feature a good number of quotes from writers’ notes (here) and interviews because those are the main sources i draw on for characterization after, you know, actual canon
evan
Smart, sincere, and cripplinglyself-conscious, Evan prefers to hover in the background, asupporting player in his own life, too afraid to step forward into thespotlight and risk ridicule or, what might be worse, no one noticinghim at all.
this description captures a lot of the things i think are key about evan, but one big thing it’s missing is that he’s kind of an asshole. he usually has good intentions, and he tries to be inoffensive and considerate and Nice, but he sucks at that because it’s just not how he naturally is. he’s bitter and angry about a lot of things - his lack of friends, jared (ostensibly) not caring about him or taking him seriously, heidi rarely being present, and perhaps most of all, his own perception of himself as “broken” and a burden, which he genuinely believes that heidi agrees with and that everyone else would if they knew what he was truly like. he’s frequently sarcastic and occasionally pedantic (see: “president” “co-president” and “it’s sula” “what did i say?” “sulu”). but these are things he doesn’t like about himself, which is why he tries to be either Nice or invisible, especially when he feels uncomfortable. the times when he’s most comfortable acting like himself are, in my opinion, when he’s just with jared, who in turn finds it most fun to spend time with evan when he’s not putting up a front.
major pet peeves in fic: being written as a ~delicate anxious bean uwu~ or anything along those lines; dialogue with stuttering that doesn’t resemble his actual speech patterns at all; making a big deal out of him using profanity; portraying his relationship with jared as evan just letting himself get pushed around until someone (usually connor) comes in to bravely show evan that He Doesn’t Deserve That
jared
Droll and sarcastic,Jared claims to be forced by his parents to hang out with familyfriend Evan, for whom he ostensibly has nothing but disdain.Jared covers his own obvious insecurities with a well-practicedbraggadocio and a know-it-all arrogance.
I think this is the playlist that Jared puts on in the morning on the first day of school to pump himself up for the day… Ultimately he’s terrified of going back to school, but he’s trying to psych himself up. … Every one of these songs is a JAM. No ballads here. And they’re all slightly sarcastic or tongue-in-cheek songs about unrequited love. Jared can relate to that. [x]
Jared Kleinman is too cool for the music of the times. He is proudly a walking 90’s movie… but he doesn’t mind sneaking a little of his parents Manischewitz and listening to a dusty Bette Midler record. [x]
(there are like a dozen interviews with will roland that i could cite here but that’s practically a post unto itself)
the best way i can sum up all the major points of jared’s characterization is that there’s always a reason for the things he says. he doesn’t make harsh remarks to be deliberately cruel or mean; he’s either pointing out an uncomfortable but important truth, or he’s aiming to make a joke and inadvertently crossing the line. when he does make jokes, it’s often another way of delivering the truth, an attempt to get people to laugh and thereby validate that he’s clever/funny/worthy, or an effort to deflect something that makes him uncomfortable or scared. redirection, derision, and showing off are some of his major defensive tactics; he doesn’t do self-deprecation out loud, but he is, as will has said, repressed and self-hating. he and evan are similarly asshole-ish, but where evan tries to hide it, jared tries to hide behind it.
he wants people to be impressed by him in general, but he really wants evan in particular to think well of him and be his friend and openly care about him - the problem is that jared can’t bring himself to openly care about evan, because that entails emotional honesty & vulnerability that he’s just not prepared to deal with. hence their interaction on the first day of school, and then jared agreeing to help evan more and more with his increasingly complex lie despite claiming not to care. (the key word in that first quote is “ostensibly.”) when he is actually is at ease (which is pretty rare, at least in canon), he’s a bit of a drama queen, which evan may pretend to be annoyed by but quietly enjoys.
major pet peeves in fic: being written as straight and/or homophobic and/or leaping to make jokes about how evan and connor are Clearly Doing It immediately after finding out that they’re becoming friends (as if he isn’t utterly convinced that evan is 100% straight); making excessive/forced references and jokes to modern pop culture/memes (everything he shouts out in any form of canon is at least ten years old and usually decades old, and that doesn’t happen often anyway); relentlessly treating evan like shit/being incredibly domineering in their friendship; constant bickering with connor; calling evan “hansen” all the time when he only ever addresses him as “evan” (or, like, “dude” or “bro” or “son”) and even only does THAT when he’s especially emotional or letting his guard down; just generally giving him dialogue that in no way resembles his actual, very distinctive speech patterns
(i have. a lot of thoughts and feelings about jared)
alana
Alana is an incredibly genuineperson. Everything she does comes from a place of deephonesty and tremendous feeling. All of the characters inthis musical put up masks of sorts. For Alana, it’s a façadeof cheerfulness. She is always ready with a smile, a note ofencouragement. This hides the loneliness underneath.
often prone to melodrama, high school senior Alana has few friends but lacks the self-awareness to understand why; beneath her extroverted demeanor, Alana is in fact haunted by a terrible and abiding loneliness; tired of always being an outsider, Alana seizes the death of a classmate as an opportunity finally to find a sense of belonging. [x]
Study break! … Alana spend a lot of time in the books. This playlist allows her to either kick back, have a lip sync battle, or a jam session. … We have classic up beats like ‘Uptown Funk’ by Bruno Mars cause she loves to dance and be silly. She’s also a romantic. Girl reads Jane Austen, so a nice healthy batch of love songs to daydream to. She’s also a feminist! So naturally Beyoncé has the perfect perfect pump up jams for the feminist in us all.
alana has Big Feelings, and they drive all her actions. she wants to achieve great things and succeed in life, yes, but more importantly, she wants to help people and make the world a better place. when she commits to a course of action, it’s because she truly believes that it’s the right or most beneficial thing to do in the end, even if the means themselves are questionable. much like jared, she struggles with vulnerability and connection with other people, and often tries to form connections with other people by making herself seem more impressive, but unlike jared, she also tries to build up and support other people, rather than tearing them down. she’s also committed to supporting Truth in a general sense, and struggles when this comes into conflict with Doing The Right Thing. this is especially obvious after good for you, when she resigns herself to continuing the fundraiser even though she’s certain it’s based on a lie.
all of this makes alana seem incredibly serious, but that’s not the entire picture. she strives to be upbeat and optimistic, and even when she’s not trying, she loves to have fun! she likes to be silly and tell jokes and laugh at other people’s jokes and daydream about finding a great romance! she thought “fuck finn” was the height of comedy! she’s not a killjoy!
i also hold with kristolyn lloyd’s theory that alana was very close with her grandmother and struggled with feeling unable/not allowed to openly grieve her death, or to express any kind of loneliness or other strong negative emotion. however, i do not hold with kristolyn’s theory that alana had a crush on connor, because alana is a lesbian.
major pet peeves in fic: being written as pedantic and joyless; overly formal dialogue (she’s perfectly capable of using colloquialisms and slang) in which she is never sarcastic, ever (she absolutely can be when she’s frustrated)
zoe
a sensitive, sophisticated high school junior; cool without realizing it, Zoe could care less about the status games and popularity rites of high school; funny and bright, she has grown up in the long shadow cast by her volatile older brother, Connor, tyrannized along with the rest of her family by his out-of-control behavior; few rooms are as familiar to her as the inside of a family therapist’s office; Zoe compensates for her brother’s darkness by striving to be warm, nice to everyone, the kind of person who goes out of her way to learn the names of the kids who sit by themselves at lunch; she feels a terrible ambivalence over her brother’s death, finding it difficult to forgive him for all he did, and at the same time forgive that part of herself that feels nothing but relief in the fact that he’s gone.
this sums up just about everything i could say, but i will add: the disembodied voice calling zoe a “stuck-up bitch” during ywbf reprise is NOT a voice you’re supposed to agree with.
major pet peeves: anything that states/suggest that zoe is a bitch; those connor/evan fix-it fics with background zoe/alana where the premise of zoe and alana’s relationship is “they’ve actually been best friends this whole time!!” even though this contradicts canon on multiple levels
connor
An angry, disaffectedloner, Connor has been a troubled kid for as long as anyone canremember, an enigma and a source of endless consternation to hislong-suffering parents and sister.
i honestly don’t have much to say about connor, because i don’t think about him very often, but i will say that:
- if your portrayal of him can be described as “edgy,” you’re probably doing something wrong. he’s just as awkward and anxious as evan, it just manifests very differently
- him addressing evan as “hansen” all the time is admittedly much more plausible than jared doing it, but still just as annoying
heidi
Overworkedand stretched too thin, Heidi loves her son fiercely, but fears theyhave begun to grow apart. She is prepared to do anything to repairthe damage.
heidi’s torn between trying to connect with evan and trying to provide a better life for him, because for her, achieving the latter currently requires spending too many hours away from home to really achieve the former. that’s why she’s so upset and demands to know what’s going on in evan’s life when he seems to be acting out of character and doing things she doesn’t expect him to do - she feels she’s being left out of the loop. much like alana, she strives for optimism, trying to find the bright side of any situation. and, as steven levenson pointed out in the annotated script (regarding the line about fabulous tips that evan’s stepmother may or may not have made from cocktail waitressing), she doesn’t have a fully developed sense of healthy boundaries, which is an interesting nuance that tends to get lost in fics that flatten her out into a generic Cool Mom. she’s trying to raise a teenager while not wanting to fully grow up herself.
cynthia
To Evan, she seems to be the perfect mother, nurturing, available, and willing to talk about anything. To her own children, it’s a bitmore complicated.
evan idealizes all the murphys, and cynthia is no exception. she tries her hardest to be a good and accessible mother, but she’s deeply dissatisfied with being just a mother. she works to support and empathize with connor, and to remember him positively after his death, but she frequently neglects and minimizes zoe and her problems in the process.
larry
Though often tense and taciturn, Larry shows a different face tothe world, representing for Evan the dad he always wished for:strong, confident, and, more than anything, reliable, someone to becounted on.
is larry going to call his children slurs or disown them/kick them out of the house for being lgbt? no. is he going to research How To Interact With Your LGBT Child and drive connor and zoe to the local pride parade? also no. the once-popular (and possibly still popular?) characterization of him as a demon straight from the ninth circle of hell is just as inaccurate as evan’s perception of him as the World’s Greatest Dad.
i hope this helps! and thank you for asking - i really enjoyed answering this, and i’d be happy to expand on most of these points if you want.

Watchlist update!
It’s a turbulent week for SKAM fans! We haven’t completely recovered from yesterday’s clip yet, but we’ve pulled ourselves together sufficiently to realise that it’s more or less a week since the last watchlist update.
The usual: When it’s been more than three weeks since a fic was updated we consider it as on hiatus and remove it from the watchlist. Then we perform a small ritual of grief. However, we don’t cancel our subscriptions and if one of the removed fics gets updated again, we will put it right back on the list.
The usual II: feel free to send us an ask if you have suggestions for fics we should check out!
Update summary:
Completed: 1 Added: 5 Removed: 2
News:
Expect the Unexpected by bri_ness (@brionbroadway) NEW
This Big Brother AU had us at ‘snakesak’, and takes that tag to a whole new level. We’re transfixed by the mix of Big Brother gameplay and manipulation and the genuine interactions between Even and Isak, and we love how this fic feels really fresh while still giving nods to canon and staying in character. This is tagged ‘messy relationships abound’ and we’re totally here for it. - kit and immy
The Notion of Falling by smokeshop (@supermansplaining) NEW
Ostensibly a hate to love fic, this one has Isak and Even meeting through Sana and Elias, and has that perfect hurts-so-good thread of angst that gets me every time. It’s very heavy on Valtersen family stuff, with a lot of interaction between Isak and his sort-of-canon baby sister Lea, and I’m really into how much of that backstory this fleshes out. While it claims to be hate to love, mostly this fic centers around miscommunication and Evak starting out from a place of unintentionally hurting each other. Ouch, my heart. - kit
Things Look Different in the Morning by allyasavedtheday (@littlespooneven) NEW
THIS IS SO ADORABLE. This one has the somewhat handwavey scenario of Even needing to share a room with Isak (for Reasons), but once you accept that as a Thing this is one of the loveliest reads, full of feelings-inducing snuggles and (of course) bed-sharing. Isak and Even are technically college students in this, so this is a cute look at how it might have gone if they’d met later in life. It also features some of our favourite tags: slow burn and mutual pining. Warning: features insomnia. - kit and immy
a mental archive of love unknown by chevythunder (@icelandcurry) NEW
This fic begins with Even in love with Mikael and moving into the kollektiv with Isak and Linn–a combo we didn’t know we wanted. We’re already loving the angst and the growing friendship between Isak and Even, as well as the dynamic with the balloon squad, whose friendship here is ultimately #goals. Although we all know how this fic is gonna end, this feels like a breath of fresh air, and we can’t wait to read more. - kit and immy
Mental kampsport by Peer (Norwegian) NEW
Starting during Even's depressive episode in S3 and being told from Even's POV, this is an unforgettably beautiful and moving story. Every bit of it feels true to Even and the SKAM universe, while also bringing a feeling of fresh new perspectives to the table. Only in Norwegian, unfortunately, but if you can read that you should definitely read this. - immy
with love, from anonymous by cosetties (@adamparishe) and iriswests (@westiris) COMPLETED
Completed, rec here.
Still on the watchlist from last update:
Spacewalker by evenvaltersen
How the hell you can make a Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo AU work with SKAM characters is beyond me, but evenvaltersen manages just that, in my opinion. This may be my obsession with Christiane F talking, but give it a go. Be warned: it’s every bit as gritty and sad as you can expect something based on a mostly true story about teen drug addicts in Berlin in the 70s to be, no fluff here. - immy
making new clichés by strangetowns (@yousanaisendgame)
This is in its early days, but oh-so promising! It’s another Evak as best friends AU, but it’s incredibly well-written thus far and it has a very realistic, nuanced portrayal of their relationship, which is already just close enough that it has us absolutely stoked for the moment it tips over into feelings too big to ignore. - kit and immy
The Weight of Us by verlore_poplap (@mimi-fics)
This is a very interesting fic, in part because it’s so different to a lot of the stuff in the fandom so far. Isak and Even meet when they’re older, and in serious relationships with Emma and Sonja–in case alarm bells are ringing, yes, Isak and Emma are together, but the author uses the context of their relationship to explore what would have happened if he’d repressed his sexuality, which I think is very cool. The author also treats Emma very fairly. The fic has a few minor niggles–Isak, for example, at one point performs a super rare kind of heart surgery–but overall this fic has me really intrigued, and I can’t wait to read the rest. - kit
Checking from Behind by DickAnderton (@wecanjustbreathe)
A slight disclaimer is probably in order here, because I (Kit) am betaing this fic, but I’m too obsessed with it not to rec it. This is a hate-to-love AU, set in my absolute favourite of AU universes–college ice hockey! You don’t need to know anything about the sport to be intrigued by this fic, which definitely isn’t your standard Evak storyline. Warning: Isak and Even both explore relationships with women in this one, so see the author’s notes. -kit
Twice by intothewind (@brokenveinssay) This fake dating/band fic is a delicious addition to the world of Evak AUs, and we’re completely here for it. Isak pretends to be Jonas’s boyfriend, which leads to some borderline Josak/Jovak-esque moments here, and we’d be lying if we said we hadn’t already read that shotgunning scene MULTIPLE TIMES. - kit and immy
the city of illusions, the city of yearning by elisewin (@books-figuero) A different city AU where the slightly older SKAM characters are exchange students in Rome, and where the author obviously knows the city and writes it well. Sweet and humorous so far, with a fair bit of the banter we adore so much in SKAM fics. - kit and immy
A Collection of Even & Isak’s First Kiss AU Shorts by @fandomlimb Just what it says on the tin: first kisses, a different AU in each chapter. Adorable short stories, varying POVs and varying amounts of fluff. - immy
Livredderen by Kudzibisa (Norwegian)
AU where Even is the first to arrive at the scene when Isak has been in a car crash. As usual from Kudzibisa, short clipped chapters keeping the reader on tenterhooks, peppered with beautifully crafted evocative sentences, for those truly blessed people who can read Norwegian. - immy
Livet skjer med meg by neelabrenner (@nilabrenner) (Norwegian) Post season 3 canon divergent story about Isak and Even’s life together, from Even’s POV. So far feelgood and funny and precious, but not without angst and other deep and not always pleasant emotions. Capturing the characters well from Even’s POV. Yes, those who can read Norwegian are indeed truly blessed. - immy
I’ll Be Coming Home, Wait For Me by @dahlstrom This AU sees Even as a chef co-owning a new American style diner with Yousef, and Isak as their new waiter, so we’re already invested in the dynamics set up here! We’re especially excited by the tags, which promise not only a delicious slow burn, but a taste of our girl Chris Berg. We’re already super hungry for more of this (okay, okay, we’ll stop now with the food puns) so: why aren’t you reading this already? - kit and immy
Straight up (series) by (@nofeartina)
From the second work in this series, this is rated explicit… and rightfully so, omg. It’s nearly impossible to say anything useful about this because we’re (hopefully temporarily) not very capable of explressing ourselves beyond vague rambling about “fluffly smut” and “hot” and “holy shit this is hot” and “have we mentioned yet that this is hot”. We’ll let you know when we pick our jaws up off the floor. - kit and immy

Twilight: 10 Hilarious Eclipse Memes Only True Fans Will Understand – Screen Rant
The film adaptation of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is almost ten years old now, and it’s wild to look back and remember what a massive phenomenon the entire Twilight franchise was. This fluffy and romantic tale of Bella Swan, the hundred-year-old vampire and the werewolf boy who were constantly vying for her affection captured the hearts of girls (and some boys) all over the world.

Although the Twilight mania obviously died down after the books and films concluded, The Twilight Saga has actually undergone a bit of a renaissance in the world of online fandoms. This renewed appreciation for the series was completely unexpected, but not unappreciated. And, just like anything that gains a bit of internet popularity, Twilight became the subject of many internet memes during this renaissance. Every movie was blessed and cursed with its own memes, and here are the 10 best memes about The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

10 Not The Same Eclipse
Look, when it comes to romantic relationships, it needs to be a give and take kind of situation, and you ultimately have to accept that you win some and you lose some.
An actual solar or lunar eclipse is clearly more exciting than the movie version of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, but if your girlfriend (or boyfriend, because it’s not just girls that enjoy a little Twilight every once in a while) wants to watch an hour and a half of incredibly sanitized romance between a bunch of supernatural beings then maybe just let her live her best life for a little while.
9 That’s Not Romantic, It’s Creepy
To be totally frank, the mystique of Bella Swan is entirely mystifying, because she is an admittedly beautiful – but ultimately very boring – individual. But what really leaves us asking questions about Bella’s magical magnetism is why exactly she seems to attract such utter creepers.

Edward and Jacob are undeniably smoking hot, but they’re quintessential nice guys who don’t know how to actually listen to what the girl they supposedly love is saying. Jacob is totally the type of guy who will be a girl’s Valentine whether she wants him to be or not, but Edward Cullen is the exact same way, and Bella is incredibly unlucky to have these two borderline stalkers believe that they’re in love with her.

8 Minion Love
Yeah, we can’t lie, if someone remade The Twilight Saga but used minions in place of all of the characters – we would 100% be watching it. And not to besmirch the writing of Stephenie Meyer, but, to be totally honest, you could just as easily switch out all of the dialogue between Edward, Bella, and Jacob with the incomprehensible gibberish that is the minion language and the story wouldn’t have to change all that much.
We also have to give props to the creator of this particular meme, because the detail work is fantastic. The abs on Jacob and the chest hair on Edward are spot on.
7 Who Can’t Relate To That
It’s really a shame that the main thrust of The Twilight Saga is the love triangle between Bella, Edward, and Jacob, because the side characters in Twilight are really the most interesting characters in the series.
Rosalie Hale is an iconic character in a lot of different ways, but one of her most charming attributes is her absolute zero-tolerance policy for pretty much everyone and everything in the world. She’s certainly no fan of Bella Swan, but she also isn’t a fan of anyone else either. She ostensibly loves Emmett, but even he gets the kind of treatment that makes it seem like Rosalie is just barely tolerating him.

6 Teens Shouldn’t Procreate
On its face this is a meme that seems especially judgmental and mean. However, on second thought, it’s a pretty fair thing to say about Twilight fans. And that’s not because Twi-hards are stupid or their interests are embarrassing, it’s simply because most of the people who were caught up in Twilight mania were teenagers at the time.

And despite what the conclusion of Twilight may have told its audience, it’s actually a pretty terrible idea for teenagers to have children. Luckily it’s been quite a while since the Twilight books and movies came out though, so presumably all of the fans are now grown enough that having children is not such a terrible idea.
5 An Upset Win
Many people might be able to figure out what exactly this meme is referencing just from the context clues, but for those of you who don’t have an encyclopedic memory of completely inane pop culture awards that were given out almost ten years ago then we can explain what’s up with this.
So, for some inexplicable reason, fans of Harry Potter and Twilight seemed to place actual value on an MTV movie award, and the Harry Potter squad was understandably upset when Eclipse won the award for best movie over HP.

4 Shocking
In retrospect it really seems like all of the Twilight fans should have been team no one, since Edward let Bella nearly kill herself to incubate their child and since Jacob promptly fell in love with said newborn child the minute Edward literally ate her out of Bella’s stomach.
But, also, there was clearly no chance of Bella choosing Jacob anyway. He was probably the least bad out of two terrible options, but this girl went completely insane and nearly killed herself multiple times when Edward bailed on her. Obviously she was never, ever going to choose anyone over Edward.
3 He’s Taken, But Still
The drama of The Twilight Saga makes a lot of sense because the three main players involved in the big love triangle are all stage 5 clingers who don’t seem to have an ounce of common sense to share between them, but it’s worth repeating that the side characters in the series really were the best characters that the saga had to offer.

Alice and Jasper were an undeniably perfect match, but it’s kind of hard to see how Bella would be so single-mindedly obsessed with Edward when Edward had brothers that looked and acted as Emmett and Jasper do.

2 The Original Is Better Than The Fanfiction
Well, it’s pretty rare that a fanfiction based on a certain story actually surpasses that story in terms of its quality. In case anyone didn’t know already, 50 Shades of Grey is literally Twilight fan fiction. The author E.L. James just changed the names of the characters when her fanfiction blew up and attained enough popularity that it actually warranted a print publication.
And it’s pretty ironic when you think about it, but James (possibly by pure accident) nailed all of the creepiest and most abusive parts of Edward Cullen as a character with her characterization of Christian Grey.
1 Revenge For The Ages
It might seem like this entire meme list has been a total roast of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and the entire saga in general, but that’s only because – with the benefit of time and maturity – the massive amounts of problematic issues within The Twilight Saga have become virtually impossible to ignore.
While the representation of women in the series is a little icky, we think one thing that everyone can agree on is that Rosalie Hale’s revenge on the men who attacked her and nearly killed her is absolutely worthy of icon status. She went straight Kill Bill before Kill Bill existed, and it truly was poetic cinema.
