JAMESON

Oren was here. So was Grayson. After getting yelled at, Avery left. She looked so sad and forlorn, he couldn't bear to look at her. Grayson took the first chance to talk to Jameson alone,

"what are you doing, Jamie? What do you have planned?" Jamie translated that to mean 'when are you going to come home?'

"I have planned, let me check, oh yes! Nothing," he said, using his signature smirk as a shield.

Grayson opened his mouth, then closed it, waited. "Are you breaking up with her?"

The eye contact was more than enough for an answer.

"I need space. I'll come back, don't worry about me."

That evening, when boredom overtook him again, Jameson found himself back at the devil's mercy. He'd gotten himself an apartment in London specifically for this reason. He genuinely enjoyed being a member. It was also the one place he couldn't be followed by Avery, or run into her. Zella wasn't here today, neither was Simon or anyone he knew, except Rohan. That bastard would jump at any chance to peeve him.

"I really should have placed a bet on the likelihood of you breaking up with Ms. Grambs. Would've filled my pockets."

God, he was infuriating. Why had Jameson come here?

"And I should have placed a bet on the likelihood of you shutting up, Rohan, would've filled my purses."

"Always the defender, Ms. Sinclair."

Jameson hadn't realised when a woman had come and sat next to him.

She was wearing the same historical garb-like dress every woman around here wore. Her long dark blonde hair fell in waves over her shoulders, which was unnatural around here, considering the few women that were there were too prim and proper to keep their hair as such. It was a minor detail, but one that made him feel she liked to defy.

Jameson spoke for the first time in a while, "Not that you would need the money, anyway, I presume."

The way she answers that was a clear insight into her. Most people here were money-hungry, or power-hungry, or greedy, prideful, meek- many distinguishing factors. Truthfully, Jameson had everyone in the room pegged about 4 seconds after he met them. Not this woman though, and it was unsettling him.

She just looked down at her cards that dealt her in and smiled.

She looked at him, still smiling grimly, then leaned in, "your attempt at trying to read me through my answers is… run-of-the-mill, at best."

That stole Jameson's attention. It surprised him. Things hardly surprised him anymore. It felt nice, except his mind reverted back to a certain ex-girlfriend.

Ex-girlfriend. It still didn't sound right to him.

"You need to read people instantly after you meet them because you're scared they'll show their true colours later, surprise you, and make you feel stupid and ordinary."

That struck him like an arrow. The woman, however, seemed to genuinely regret saying that, "apologies. I seem to have gone too far," she amended.

"A psychologist?"

"Just an underestimated woman, I'm afraid."

Who is she?

"Cinq" she suddenly uttered.

"What?"

"The cards. Cinq. I win." She looked at Rohan who nodded and handed her the chips.

Before he could add to that, she got up, "I'm running late, boys. Like always, I'll see you soon."

She pulled out a card.

"Though I'd like to see you sooner."

She had a mischievous glint in her eye, and before long, it was gone with her.

Jameson put it in his wallet and forgot about it. There was a lot of healing to do before moving on.

Jameson dreamt of Avery again that night. Even after saying his goodbye, she still haunted him everywhere he went. Every 5"6' brunette on the street, every coffee cup from her favourite coffee shop in London. He hadn't even changed his wallpaper that was a candid of her laughing.

And that was the problem. She was still… her. So her. Just too burdened. But that wasn't an excuse.

Avery was… calling him. Wait

Avery's calling me.

"Hello?"

"I'm outside."

"Avery, please. Just leave me-" Jameson said, walking toward her standing outside.

With a hot air balloon.

"Hop on."

"We're broken up."

She looked like someone had just stabbed her. How many times was she going to make him repeat the same painful thing?

"One date. Just one, please."

He sighed, "why?"

"Why won't you let me go? The you I've seen the last few years would've been about as interested as a porcupine is cuddly."

"I can't. I can't even think of letting you go. I have so many versions of my dreams for the future, and they all end up with you. I chose you a long time ago. I want to choose you again and make you feel it too."

"Just one date, mystery boy. I'm begging you."

Avery might just be better than Jameson at planning dates. It was perfect.

Staring with the hot air balloon ride where he had to take over because she almost crashed them down. Bunjee jumping in Perthshire. Abseiling. An insane game of dares. Ending with them sunbathing on the shore of the cove, with chocolate-covered strawberries and stars in a bottle.

"I liked today. Wait, no. I loved today" he might still have his reservations, but he needed to tell her that. She held his hand and squeezed it gently.

"Me too." After silence and a few more strawberries, "Will you please come back with me now? We really need to be home."

Jameson's relaxed face suddenly adopted a frown.

"Why? What's so important that we need to go back?"

"I can't stay away too long."

"It's been, like, 4 days." Avery said nothing. Jameson abruptly got up. She did too.

"This is just a chore to you isn't it? An inconvenience."

She went pale again, "No. Jameson, no. I came all the way here looking for you, trying to get you back."

"I never told you to. But what your doing right now? It's worse."

"I waited for 5 years before choosing myself for once, Avery, and you're tired in 4 days? Do you think you can get your heart broken with every perfunctory kiss and every interaction merely a formality, and live with it?"

"I did not mean it like that when I said I want us to go home. I just want things to be the way they were, Jamie, please."

"No. You need to leave. For good."

Hi again. I got busy when the news came out, because of course that's how the lottery works 🙄. Also, thank you to @daisy-calloway-has-my-heart and @hathorneheiress for the notification on the card and @1989stanz for this ask. Anyways, since you guys want to know my opinion here it is.

So, Rohan... If I'm being honest, he felt more like a one and done character in The Brothers Hawthorne, Gigi didn't. Yes, you could say that there felt like something was potentially gonna bring him back in the future but not here, that's not what I thought. Because of Eve's epilogue and the mention of a plan involving Savannah, Gigi's place was basically confirmed for me just I didn't know that would entail her as a POV character, however, I am excited for that. Now, Mr. Factotum over here is a bit of an enigma for me but given the context of the Grandest Game, it does make sense for his involvement, but I'm surprised he's a POV character. Although, I do have to say I love the turned tables because last time Avery and Jameson were at his whim and now it's the other way around. I bet Jamie's gonna have a lot of fun with that.

Now, the fact this man's card is an Ace. And not just any Ace-the Ace of Diamonds. I feel like JLB wants us to truly feel like this guy is exuding power, the elite in a secretive kind of way because that is what the Devil's Mercy was-the secret underground playground for the most elite of the rich. Anyways, as my friend, @hathorneheiress, pointed out to me and thanks for the refresher-ace trumps all in a deck. That could be a hint in how good he's going to be at this game or it's just reinforcing the reminder of what kind of personality he has. However, he also has the king chess piece, at least going by the book cover because it's kind of hard to pinpoint in the silhouette card. I wonder if that might metaphorically tie back to his wishes to become the Proprietor's heir in TBH and if he couldn't get that there because of Zella, the duchess, he took this as his chance to become more.

I truly believe that Rohan will be giving us more of the view of the game itself while Gigi will be a behind-the-scenes look probably due to Savannah's preoccupation if Eve's intents prove to be quite malicious. One more thing, Slate. I have a feeling he and Rohan will be Grayson and Jameson's counterparts in this spinoff because they were shown to be their opposition in each of their stories throughout the novella. Funny enough, although I would say Slate may pose a bigger threat because of Eve until he ultimately leaves for Gigi (love how we already somehow planned that out from one interaction) Jameson and Rohan really fought it out but it was so satisfying to see Rohan get his ass handed to him, even though the boy was ready to keep going.

Also, swoon over the silhouette. If we had that for the ogs, that would have been great. Ironically I can see that being very Jameson because unfortunately, Rohan just feels like Jameson's true Brit counterpart. Cue me imagining a Cockney accent.

You know, now that I think about it, I wish JLB would release something after TGG with our og cast in silhouette cards with their chosen suit and card number or position; I already call Avery as Queen of Spades, Jameson as Ace of Hearts, Xander as Jack of Hearts, Nash as Ace of Clubs, and Grayson as King of Diamonds (for you @hathorneheiress).

I started drawing the og 16 lyctors firstly because I got inspired by other people's art and also because they're the characters that most fascinate me.

It started with me being silly but actually evolved into a ten-day art journey and while I wanna set some of these portraits on fire I thought I'd include them all to, hopefully, inspire someone.

I'll also be mentioning the fancast I used as inspiration, many of which I chose because ✨vibes✨ and nothing else. Here's a pinterest file of them all.

Gideon (Flo Rida) and Pyrrha (Salma Hayek). Valancy (Jamie Zella) and Cyrus (Drew Ray Tanner).

For some reason when thinking of Gideon, Flo Rida is what came to my mind... but trust me it works. Salma is just my favourite milf, I had to pick her for Pyrrha. For Valancy I heard curvy thicc and remember Jamie from Instagram so why not make her Asian and ginger? If Mercy gets her peach hair.

Ulysses (Jack Black/Harvey Guillen) and Titania (Jordan Daniels). Alfred (Shaun Evans) and Augustine (Peter Cushing).

Now, you can see I started struggling with the face claims, fail after fail. I did not do my girl Tits justice here, she looks too serious but trust me she's just so chill. I also sketched the Quinques too small, and when it was time to outline... poor Alfred suffered.

Cassiopeia (Alba Flores) and Nigella (Eiza Gonzallez). Loveday (Noémie Lenoir) and Cytherea (Isabelle Adjani).

Here is where I started having fun and was comfortable with the faceclaims, except for Nigella's. I chose a pretty woman to do justice to Mercy's words, but she was pretty in that modern conventional way I couldn't extract much from and ended up ruining her portrait. As an easter egg each pair of fancast speak the same languages.

Mercymorn (Sophie Marceu) and Cristabel (Sofia Coppola). Samael (César Domboy) and Anastasia (Mona Tougaard).

I was on a row here, even if they're not the best I could've done. I put some pressure on myself to do well on Mercy bc she's my favourite and do like how she turned out even if I picture her chubbier than my faceclaim.

Did I choose Coppola bc of that scene from The Godfather 3 with the veil? Yes. I also have the headcanon that Anastasia was a sturdier woman and slowly her descendency shrunk to Harrow size.

Beside each of the portraits I did a looser drawing of the pairs in ballpoint pen that I progressively put more thought into it, those are too ugly to show but the few last I really liked it.

Rosewood Ship Themes (?)

so I'm trying to do a thing here where I make like Rosewood ship theme songs??? I guess??? Like pick songs that I think fit each of the ships in the Rosewood Chronicles, and so far, I only have three decided, but I thought I'd share my ideas.

Lottie x Ellie - P.U.N.K Girl by Heavenly. This song is more from Lottie's point of view about Ellie, and how their relationship isn't perfect but they're still perfect for each other (oh my god I love them).

Saskia x Ani - Shut Up Kiss Me by Angel Olsen. This song is supposed to be set during Princess In Practice or the beginning of TLP. Like some of the lyrics remind me of their conversation during the prison scene in PIP.

Jamie x Raphael- Only A Dream by Zella Day. Yeah you can already tell where I'm going with this and it's lowkey depressing. But I thought of the song as being from Raphael's point of view after he kinda realizes that Jamie is never gonna like him and stuff.
