5 KDramas to Watch if You Want to See Female Villains in Action

There are three main elements to make a Kdrama worth watching - the main leads, the execution of the storyline and the villains. You can’t deny the fact that villains like Jung Joon Ho and Imoogi have made the courses of the dramas even more exciting and enthralling to watch. Villains have sometimes made us hate them with all of our hearts, sometimes they silently secured a place in it (just like Jung Guen Won from Itaewon Class).

When it comes to Kdrama villains, they are mostly male but that doesn’t mean Korean Industry has not gifted us some of the cruelest and toughest female villains. And if you are yet to enjoy one of these bone-chilling female villains of Kdrama, then you are at the right place because today we have brought 5 deadliest yet underrated female villains for you to enjoy.

1. Park Yeon Jin - The Glory

There is hardly anyone who has not watched The Glory yet. The drama deals with sensitive themes like high school bullying, abuse of power and money, infidelity and so on. And when a drama is mainly dark themed, the actors playing these dark roles need to be talented enough to pull the roles perfectly without leaving any loopholes. Lim Ji Yeon here plays the role of Park Yeon Jin, who is the leader of the bully group. She is a spoiled teen brat, who abuses her power and money to get away with her wrong doings. She constantly bullies Moon Dong Eun, pushes another student from the rooftop, kills one of her notorious friends, cheats on her husband and what not. She has all the ill-qualities that will make you hate her from the core of your heart. But her character and Lim Ji Yeon’s ability to blend with the role, makes the drama much more enjoyable and thrilling. So, if you have not watched it, you should give it a try but proceed with caution since there are triggering concepts.

2. Choi Myeong Hee - Vincenzo

Everything I try to write about Choi Myeong Hee will fall short. The way we all wanted to kill her while watching Vicenzo is proof of the ability of Kim Yeo Jin in portraying this evil lawyer, who is also Jung Joon Ho’s ally. She’s nasty, she is evil, she is cruel, even her accent will tick you off very badly. But we have to admit to the fact that the drama would not be as marvelous as it is without her character in it. She constantly commits many wrong deeds only to gain more and more power. However, we must admit that we all have been quite impressed by her zumba dancing skills anyway.

3. Cha Moon Suk - Lawless Lawyer

The character of Cha Moon Suk is the perfect example of two-faced. This Lawless Lawyer villain appears to be all noble and caring but she is actually corrupt and greedy. Lee Hye Young plays the role of a senior judge, who secretly runs a corrupt charity and spares absolutely no one who comes in her way. She doesn’t even hesitate to kill her dear friend nor does she show mercy for her long-time right hand man Ahn Oh Joo. She’s driven by her greed and can do anything to attain more power and money. In my personal opinion, her character and awesome screenplay is probably the only thing that makes the drama worth watching, as for me, both of the main leads could have portrayed themselves a lot better.

4. Kang So Young - School 2015

Here comes another bully, Kang So Young from School 2015. Cha Soo Hyang plays this character of this spoiled teenager Kang So Young who finds great pleasure in bullying her orphan classmate, Eun Bi. Her bullying goes so far that Eun Bi is pushed to the verge of death. However, Kang So Young feels no remorse. As the drama goes, she gets even more evil as she does not show any sign of leaving Eun Bi alone. She does not even regret her choices and uses her parent’s power to get away with everything. However, at the end of the drama she reflects upon her choices and apologies to Eun Bi. But that does not mean her character is easily forgiven, am I right?

5. Choi Yoo Jin - The K2

Here comes our last and my personal favorite pick, Choi Yoo Jin from The K2. Even though Yoo Jin’s character is not the villain but an antagonist, still she is a deserving candidate for this list. Song Yoon Ah plays the role of Choi Yoo Jin, who is a woman of mid 40s, she is also a daughter from a chaebol family but is disinherited. Her father disowned her because she married a politician. And guess what, that same husband, goes behind her back every night and cheats on her on a daily basis. She is also the CEO of JSS Security, which is responsible for her presidential candidate husband’s security. Her character certainly makes some bad choices, such as separating her step-daughter from her husband and using her constantly to blackmail the man, but she is the one to hurt the most as well.

Even though her relationship with her family and husband is dianted and she is mostly used for money, she gives her everything to keep his husband’s image spotless. She grows a fondness, dare I say romantic feelings, for Kim Je Ha (Ji Chang Wook) but that too is quickly shut down as the main female lead comes into the picture. All in all, she may seem to be an evil woman but she actually is a victim of fate and betrayal, which is understandable. Song Yoon Ah’s incredible acting and her on screen chemistry with Ji Chang Wook is one of the primary reasons why you should watch the drama if you have not already.

TV Show Review: Kang’s Kitchen Season 2 & 3 (Variety)

First, let me tell you a quick background on how this show started.

Kang’s Kitchen is a New Journey to the West spin-off. The show was made possible due to Song Minho’s (aka Mino) finger power. To fully understand this and enjoy how Kang’s Kitchen was made, I recommend you to watch NJTTW Season 4, Episode 2. In that episode, Na PD made the members play a series of game that they need to complete within a specified time, and if they did they will be given a chance to choose prizes from a drawn wheel after one member spins himself 15 times. And Mino, being Mino won all of his three chances by choosing the reset button, Porsche, and Lamborghini. The production crew were all shocked by this, and seeing that they cannot actually provide cars, the members jokingly asked them instead. “When will Kang’s Kitchen be filmed and aired?”

Kang’s Kitchen was inspired by the other show of Na PD which is Youn’s Kitchen. But these two shows are completely different, I could say that latter is melodrama, while the former is a comedy. This is how Kang’s Kitchen - where the owner eats more than the customers - was born.

Kang’s Kitchen 2 was filmed during summer in Korea and aired on May 31, 2019. There was also a new member joining the cast who was P.O., a Block B member, Mino’s best friend, and new member added to the latest seasons of NJTTW. On their first day of filming, tons of people were lining up outside the location in Gyeongju showing just how much people were very interested in their food and show. They even had to open the restaurant twice for the whole day to accommodate as many as possible. But entry to the restaurant is purely based on lottery.

On their menu were guksu (noodles) prepared by Ho Dong, quatro fries, tteokboki (spicy and jjajang), omurice prepared by Jae Hyun, kimchi rice by P.O., and patbingsu and parfait both prepared by Ji Won and Mino. And poor Soo Geun was left to do the dishes and other minimal but very important tasks around the kitchen and hall. Through the episodes, more dishes were added and all of them looked appetizing. This show forced me to always eat whenever I watch it. That is how tempting those dishes were!

In this season they had a bigger space for the kitchen, hall, and dining which I think is better for everyone since they all have their own dishes to make. But it was nice to see how even though it was more spacious they still check on each other from time to time and help each other when one was going nuts about making orders. Even with the addition of P.O., they all had good chemistry and made cooking and serving at a restaurant looked fun. Moreover, it was heartwarming to see how they really worked hard to give the customers their best dishes. It was funny when Ho Dong was always checking for the camera man if he missed any ingredient, but it only shows how he wants his dish to be perfect and serve the customers well. Ji Won’s honest criticism always helped the members in improving their dishes as well.

After 6 episodes, Kyu Hyun who was back from his military service joined the show for its third season. His appearance completely changed the theme of the restaurant into an Italian style as he specialized in making 60cm long pizza! It was really amazing on how the crew go beyond the average and make all of the viewers go shock from their ideas. I especially loved watching the customers’ reaction whenever the pizza they ordered comes out. It also made me wonder what will they have for the upcoming seasons. Though Ji Won would like to have a huge dumpling for the next.

There were a lot of funny scenes throughout the show. But my two most favorite were the scene when Ho Dong made a baby upset and cry because of his aegyo. As he was flustered, he asked the dessert team to make ice cream as service, then Soo Geun jokingly asked, “What if the other customers suddenly cry as well?” which really prompted other customers to fake cry. The other one was the scene with graduate students and wherein two girls were fighting over the take-out box Mino signed for them. In addition, the sweet and touching moment of Ho Dong and a fan was very moving. It made me literally coo while watching them.

The show ended with their last day in which they also earned their highest sale. The last episode included unseen footages, director's cut, and their reunion days after their restaurant closed. In that episode, they talked about the episodes aired, NJTTW, and Jiwon and Soo Guen's trip to Iceland to see the aurora. I am so excited about the trip of those two.

Since KK is now finally over, fans like me are now anticipating the new season of NJTTW which will definitely bring laughter and happiness. Thank you, Na PD and KK members for showing us your hard work, new dishes that we could follow, and giving us happiness through your show. Until next time!

One morning with the Hungry Bunch

The two illustration galleries are color portraits taken from Kusanagi’s twitter account and special art drawn for events like a signing session, the AnY cafe or New Years cards from the magazine. Apart from the book cover, there’s no new color art inside.

Interviews from the anime and stage play cast include color photographs.

There are 10 pages worth of new 4koma manga included in the character bios. Some character profiles are very very short, but most include a lot of text and a few panels from the manga.

The rough sketch sections includes sketches from the freebie that came with Hana to Yume issue 15/2018, sketches from the OAD booklet or from twitter, plus a couple new B&W illustrations.

The latter half of the Q&A section has answers drawn as mini comics (6 pages).

The P109 reprints are B&W illustrations and comics that were distributed at designated bookstores when a new volume came out. Most of them were already reprinted in AnY volumes or on Kusanagi’s blog in the webclap section.

The Go! Go! 5 Stars! manga is 5 pages of 4koma manga about the 5 Stars. The other bonus manga is 7 pages long and about drowsy hungry bunch members waking up and offering to help Yoon with camp duties while Hak is sleeping right next to Yona and kinda freaks out when he wakes up.

Bộ phim nói về một cô em gái có biệt tài nói dối Yoo Rin bất đắc dĩ trở thành em họ của Gong Chan để hoàn thành tâm nguyện của ông nội của Gong Chan hiện đang lâm bệnh nặng, hầu như ở suốt 20 tập phim là sự âm mưu tính toán và đầy các tình tiết hóm hỉnh của nữ nhân vật chính.

Là một bộ phim được đánh giá rất cao tại Hàn Quốc, phim không chỉ có cốt truyện vui nhộn mà còn chứa nhiều thông điệp ý nghĩa về gia đình. Lấy bối cảnh về những sự việc hay gặp hằng ngày trong gia đình có đến 3 thế hệ, những vui buồn đã được các diễn viên thế hiện một cách xuất sắc, điểm qua một số diễn viên nổi tiếng như: Shin Ji Soo, Kim Hye Sung, Lee Sun Jae, Kim Bum….Dưới bàn tay biến hóa của các nhà làm phim, những mâu thuẫn trong gia đình luôn chứa them sự vui nhộn và hài hước, tất cả đã vượt qua cãi vả, tranh chấp, mọi người càng cảm thấy gần gũi và yêu thương nhau nhiều hơn. Bộ phim có tất cả là 3 phần, nhưng đối với các chuyên gia và khán giả, thì phần phim này vẫn chiếm trọn nhiều tình cảm của họ nhất.

9. Ông ngoại tuổi 30

Trong phim, Hyeon Soo do Cha Tae-huyn đóng, từng là một thần tượng của các tuổi teen. Hiện tại, anh đang làm phát thanh viên của một đài phát thanh DJ. Số phận trớ trêu khi anh tình cờ được lên chức ông ngoại ở lứa tuổi 30. Qua một lần phát thanh, người phát thanh nói chuyện với mình là Jea In, con gái của anh với người yêu đầu. Và cô bé đó có một người con tên là Ki Dong. Từ trước tới giờ, cô bé luôn thiếu thốn tình cảm người cha, nên rất khao khát tìm được cha của mình, vì vậy 2 mẹ con cô quyết định đi tìm và cô và cũng là ông ngoại của con cô. Trải qua rất nhiều biến cố, gia đình đã được đoàn tụ bên nhau hạnh phúc.

10. Ngôi nhà hạnh phúc

Dù không phải là một tín đồ phim, nhưng các bạn vẫn có thể biết đến bộ phim này nhờ sự nổi tiếng của nó về nội dung lẫn hình thức và cả mặt âm thanh. Bộ phim được coi là đầu tiên tiên phong cho mô típ “ trước ghét sau yêu” nhưng phải chịu cảnh sống chung mái nhà. Các tình tiết đơn giản, yếu tố gây cười cộng them bối cảnh đẹp, diễn viên được tuyển chọn xinh lung linh và khi đó nổi lên một thời đó chính là cặp đôi của Bi Rain và Song Hye Kyo khiến người xem vẫn có thể thỏa thích dù đã luyện phim không biết bao nhiêu lần.
