He's so proud.

Christmas times made everything quiet, & it's allowed the King of Camellia the slow & stillness to look & reflect. And every year his thoughts are the same.

He's so proud of his daughters. How they're grown & changed.

Though John lounged back in the plushy armchair within the warmth of Sfarzoso Castle's walls, it allowed him to see down the hallway towards the kitchen. There Ann & Suzanne walked with the staff to ready Christmas dinner, the members of personal staff that had no families or friends to join this holiday on. He would try to join them, but after being escorted out(after many pervious years of the king spoiling or out right burning something) he knew better then to push his luck. Instead, he will sit back with his sister Catherine, & wait to be called into the dining room for dinner.

As light cameral brown hair & dark raven black lock passed by the door in passing moments, the old king can't help but see the trances of his wife & his mother in them. The light brown, so much like his dearest Rosa, their eldest was truly her mirror. Beautiful, kind & gentle, but still firm & sure. Ann even held her mother's face. She's come a long way, from the meek girl who held no confidence in her words, a nervous Princess with little assurance in her own abilities to lead. Ann will be a wonderful Queen. John is sure... & is sure Rosa would agree. The shiny black, was like that of John's mother, Queen Daphine, the youngest had more of John's genes & he can't be more pleased about it. Strong, ambitious, confident, he knew he had nothing to worry about regarding boys with her, because no man would love her more then how she loved herself. She understood herself, & would make no effort to change who she is or stand for disrespect, & it's such a wide difference from the quiet girl who bent over backwards to just merely be 'accepted' by others. Ann might be John's heir, the next Queen of Camellia, but Suzanne will be the ruler of something far greater; a legend. There is no doubt in his mind & he knows Daphine would share his lack of doubts.

"... John...? Are you alright?" Catherine gently called out to her older brother, shaking her hand as far as she would get into his vision from her wheelchair. "You're staring off into distance, are you thinking too hard again?"

"Yes." He'll admit it out right, knowing well he can't hide from his sister. He took a pause, simply to reach for the tea cup that had been resting on the coffee table between himself, his sister, & the fireplace; still roaring with a warm fire. Ann had made them tea before tending to the waiting kitchen, & it was the familiar smell of bergamot that made him smile. "Good things, I assure you."

"Oh? And do I get to hear those thoughts of yours?" Curious Cathey strikes again.

"It's nothing that important, Cathey." John spoke after taking a well & good drink of the tea. "I'm just happy to see how much my little girls have grown."

"John, you say that, but still call them your 'little girls', isn't that contradictory."

"..." And John huffs, like a disgruntled child, having that pointed out to him. "They're grown woman, of their own right & merit, but they'll always be my daughters... they'll always be my little girls."

Luke Cage Season Two Review

Season two of Luke Cage sees the return of Mike Colter as the titular bulletproof hero that we know and love who protects Harlem. Returning for season two are detective Misty Knight (Simone Missick), gangster Hernan “Shades” Alvarez (Theo Rossi), and councilwoman Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard). This season’s plot revolves around a Jamaican gangster John “Bushmaster” McIver (Mustafa Shakir) who comes to town seeking revenge against Mariah Dillard. Luke is caught in the middle between these two warring figures and must figure out how to stop them both to save the Harlem. In my book season two is a step up from its freshman season, its sophomore season has a clear and focused storyline from beginning to end throughout its thirteen episodes.

An aspect that is improved upon from its freshman season is the shows villains. The new villain Bushmaster is less so of a villain at times and more on the lines of a Frank Castle like character who wants revenge for what Mariah’s family did to his. On the flip side we have Mariah who was overshadowed by Cottonmouth and Diamondback in the first season, but in season two she becomes a ruthless and powerful gangster. Season one’s big issue was killing Cottonmouth within the first six episodes after what was a brilliant performance by Mahershala Ali, only to get a villain like Diamondback who was way to cartoonish and felt that he was in a different show. Season two fixed its villains problem in a big way and Shades who was kind of in the background in season one has a great character journey this season.

The other major aspect I enjoyed about season two was the interconnectivity to the other Marvel Netflix shows. Season two is sprinkled with references and characters to the previous shows particularly when it comes to the events of what happened in The Defenders. We also get to see both Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) and Danny Rand (Finn Jones) make different appearances in the show as they help guide Luke and Misty in their own struggles they are dealing with. Interconnectivity between these shows is what I love most about the Marvel Netflix universe. Unlike season two of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage’s sophomore season connected events and characters of previous shows together in a way that fit naturally to the story.

The downside with all these Marvel Netflix shows is the thirteen-episode length and this season of Luke Cage is no exception. If these shows had fewer episodes they would be better than they already are and there wouldn’t be as many subplots that detract away from the main story and characters. However, Luke Cage season two is a significant improvement over its freshman season. Mike Colter and the supporting cast continue to be great with Alfre Woodard having an Emmy worthy performance this season. Reg E. Cathey appears as Luke’s father in what is his final performance before his untimely passing, it was great to see him in this show and his interactions with Luke. Overall, Luke Cage season two is a win and it’s an all-around fun season with cool new characters and some great connections to the other Marvel Netflix shows.
