#Kids Inaugural 2013

“It’s fascist to eliminate DOE!” Americans are considered some of the most illiterate people and lack critical thinking skills on the planet since the DOE was made.
Boys are INTENTIONALLY throw under the bus since the public school system is purposely designed for girls style of learning. Fuck I’m 23 and I realize I only got any form of support because of my skintone.
And what we been getting, hmm, kids don’t know how to do taxes. We barely have any cooking lessons unless your lucky af. Most Americans can only read at a 3rd grade level and oh the big ones.
Teachers unions are corrupted af and we have rampant child sex abuse issues where 1 in 10 students REPORTED sexual misconduct. And how many headlines that boils down to “Teacher raped a male student” in one year alone?
And I’m African American, now I didn’t grow up in the inner cities. But I known the government don’t give two fucks about me(I live in the Chicago area too)
What wrong destroying the DOE? People call American schools a hell on earth and we been getting more stupid since the government interference. Oh shit I forgot, how many boys were overdrugged again? Sorry I don’t have Stockholm syndrome towards schools
Tumblr media
2013 not sure if there's anything more recent this was the one that popped up when I was looking for something different for that post
You'll notice that adjusted for inflation there is three times the money being spent per student now than there was in 1970 with a fairly static level on scoring, but you know that whole definition of insanity trying the same thing and expecting different results doesn't count when it comes to my tax dollars apparently.
There are understandable newer things that will increase the monetary need like ADA compliance, computers, and meal programs (which I wholeheartedly support, kids shouldn't go hungry drop the obama one tho I don't support that one it's garbage and kids were still hungry, how bad does it have to be for a kid to skip out on some of what might be all they eat that day) and various other improvements and such, big fan of air conditioning myself.
Still shouldn't triple the dollar number,
Also for the record the DOE was formed in 1979 so the numbers were already going up for spending when it came in.
Data presented to the Akron, Ohio, school board revealed not a single student from the school’s inaugural third-grade class — now entering eighth grade — has ever passed the state’s math test. “It is discouraging,” said Keith Liechty-Clifford, the district’s director of school improvement, in a model of understatement. State test scores in English and science are nearly as bad, and Black students at I Promise test in the bottom 5% of all Black students in Ohio.
Nice to see the people there making excuses instead of taking responsibility too, one more lesson in failure from this school.
I do hope they can figure it out though, I still have hopes for this one.
But if you've been around here for more than a few months you'll likely know I have hopes for everything to be better, I try to be very bright side oriented.
and in that vein, at least these kids get 3 hots 5 days a week maybe more so that's a W, less hungry kids is always a W

Run The Jewels Live Show Review: 9/28, The Salt Shed, Chicago
Tumblr media
Run The Jewels (El-P & Killer Mike)
BY JORDAN MAINZER
Over the past several years, Run The Jewels albums have seemed primed for the time they came out. Run The Jewels 3 was released digitally in between the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election and Donald Trump's subsequent inauguration, El-P and Killer Mike's penchant for grand political statements and even cheeky conspiracy theories nestled alongside their statements of self-triumph. RTJ4 was released in 2020, two days earlier than planned in response to the murder of George Floyd and subsequent protests of police brutality and institutional racism all over the world. Songs like "Just", featuring the unforgettable line, "Look at all these slavemasters posin' on yo' dollar," were both timely and ever-relevant. Reflecting, though, it's always been Run The Jewels 2 that's the duo's crowning achievement, where it felt like the potential of the collaboration reached its full potential. In 2012, El-P lent his dystopian production to Mike's southern fried R.A.P. Music, Mike a verse to Cancer 4 Cure standout "Tougher Colder Killer". 2013 saw the two realize the group for the first time with a self-titled album, which at the time was a welcome surprise and perhaps a victory lap. Turns out, it was just a warm-up.
Tumblr media
Run The Jewels (Killer Mike & El-P)
That is, Run the Jewels 2 showcased everything you love about hip hop: MCs with distinct, but complementary flows and styles, unique production, and social awareness combined with a firecracker sense of humor, the potential to burn it all down, and unmistakably horny braggadocio. It was my obvious choice when deciding which of four nights to see RTJ perform an album in full, also knowing they'd cherry pick highlights from their back catalog in a second set. On stage at The Salt Shed last Thursday, Mike and El sounded as clear as ever without losing their bruising momentum, shouting words to a crowd who replied back every single one. (The two joked that playing this album in full was a bad idea, considering the amount of mushrooms they consumed when making it, fearing they wouldn't be able to remember their lines.) Trackstar the DJ rattled the stereo-busting bass of "Oh My Darling Don't Cry" and "Close Your Eyes (And Count To Fuck)" as the crowd jumped up and down and moshed. Mike likened himself to William "Refrigerator" Perry during "Blockbuster Night Part 1", successfully pandering to those members of the crowd who were fans of the Chicago Bears, aka didn't travel from all over the Midwest to see the show.
Tumblr media
Killer Mike
Though the first four RTJ2 songs are all-timers, it was the back half that shone brightest. Before RTJ performed nihilist anthem "Lie, Cheat, Steal", El-P remarked, based on the younger age of the crowd, that they'd have "a front row seat to the apocalypse," which put into perspective for a lot of us why we gravitated towards their magnum opus in the first place. When it came out 9 years ago, it foreshadowed the shit that would truly hit the fan a couple years later, providing a worthwhile soundtrack to said gradually looming apocalypse, all without being self-serious. The magic of the record is that a song like "Early", which Mike introduced by dedicating it to anybody who has been terrorized by the police and declaring that "the state should fear the people" as opposed to the other way around, is immediately followed by, in the duo's words, "two of the most ignorant songs we've ever written." By "ignorant," they really meant sexually charged tunes that provide necessary moments of levity. Specifically, when performing "Love Again (Akinyele Back)", the duo let the raunchy verse from the late, great Gangsta Boo, play uninterrupted, cementing her as the most important spirit in the room at that moment.
Tumblr media
Mr. Len
It's no secret that Run the Jewels in general have a diverse fanbase. Folks I spoke with in the crowd ranged from hardcore kids to hip-hop heads, as expected from the type of group that has Pharrell Williams rub elbows with Zach De La Rocha. For the old school fans, an unexpected gift was in store: an opening DJ set from Mr. Len of Company Flow, the hip hop trio where El-P cut his teeth before going solo. (According to El, Bigg Jus was also in the house, though he never came out on stage.) Mr. Len treated us to tracks from Company Flow, El-P produced tunes from Cannibal Ox, and classics from Goodie Mob, Gang Starr, and A Tribe Called Quest. Though it was a callback to a bygone era, I couldn't help but think how Run the Jewels--along with the Backwoodz Studioz and Griselda crew--are this generation's possible forebears to whatever comes next, whether that's 20 years of RTJ or something else.

The Game of Soccer and Its Continued Growth in the OVAC
Tumblr media
Ohio held its first boys' soccer state championship match in 1976, when Cincinnati Finneytown defeated Brecksville-Broadview Heights 2-0. There were no multiple-class tournaments that inaugural season. In fact, it wasn't until 1981 before enough teams were fielded for a two-class system. Across the river in West Virginia, the sport took a little longer to take hold, but Huntington St. Joseph defeated Morgantown 2-1 in 1988 for the Mountain State's first “futbol” champions. Girls' championships followed suit years later in Ohio and West Virginia, first competing in 1985 and 1995 respectively. Here locally, the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference held its first OVAC Cup Championship for boys back in 1991 when the Eric Sendaydiego-led Patriots of Wheeling Park won the conference's first title. The girls began four years later, with Wheeling Park, under the direction of Debbie Glines capturing that first cup. The Cup split into two divisions in 1999 and into three for the 2003 season. This allowed for some of the smaller schools to compete for championships without having to wade through some of the OVACs largest schools. “It used to be all one division and only the top eight teams made it,” recalled St. Clairsville head coach Wes Stoner. “There was an argument good or bad for it either way vs. how it is now, but I didn't have a problem with it either way. But it was really difficult though, and I think the OVAC recognized that, for smaller schools to compete with say Wheeling Park or Morgantown, at least generally speaking.” Stoner would remember. While he's been the girls' coach at St. Clairsville since 2013, when his Red Devils captured the Class 4A tournament, he also was a player. A 2000 graduate of St. Clairsville, he played for the Red Devils' boys team during the 1996 through 1999 seasons, meaning he played three seasons under the one-class format, one in the split division. Sometimes it does boil down to numbers. The smaller schools generally roll with the numbers they receive. The boys or girls that show up to the first day of summer practice mostly all make the team. Larger schools have the luxury of big turnouts and may even have to hold roster cutdowns, meaning they can keep the best of the best. “We've never had enough players where we've had to cut people,” Stoner said. “Which I'm kind of glad because that's never something you enjoy doing. But, on the other side, when you do have to do that, it means you have a large number of kids which is great for your program.” Wheeling Park's Max Seibert battles Steubenville's Nicholas Burczyk for the ball as the Patriots' Rynder McLeod looks on Youth Development is Key Look at the traditionally strong programs in the OVAC and you'll find one thing in common: All roster members come from communities with longstanding youth leagues and developmental programs. Communities like Wheeling, Weirton, Steubenville, St. Clairsville - even Wellsburg - all have strong youth leagues that help develop young players. Wheeling's dates back to the 1980s while others like St. Clairsville, which first started playing in 1993, arrived a little later to the party. Stoner, who grew up initially in Brooke County over in West Virginia, started his soccer career playing in the Bethany recreation league. Once he started improving and wanted to further challenge himself, Stoner tried out and started playing for a club team based out of Wheeling around the U-9, U-10 age group. When the family moved to St. Clairvsille, soccer at Capstone was still in its infancy. For most players during the 1990s in this part of the OVAC footprint, Wheeling was still the place to play. “If anyone wanted to play year-round at that point, you went to Wheeling, or, in the winter, we went up to Zanesville,” Stoner recalled. Recreation leagues are paramount to player development and, subsequently, the development of high school programs as coaches are getting players with multiple years of experience. Moreso, the schools with the most club players tend to do well. These teams hold tryouts, taking the top players from the area and play a competitive schedule year-round. “If you're playing club anywhere in the area, you are at least a decent player and likely a very good one,” Stoner said. “You can tell just by looking at the top teams in the (OVAC), the best have the most club players. That's just the way it is. “These kids are competing year-round at high levels.” Stoner's roster usually features at least 2-3 club players and one at point, his best was 8-9 of his starting 11 were "club." Teams like Wheeling Park and Morgantown, most of the team's roster has some club experience. The same can be said for most of the larger, more successful programs. Continuing to Grow While the OVAC itself, and the sport have continued to grow in recent years, most of the teams currently playing have been fielding teams for years. There are new additions, however, primarily at smaller schools like Caldwell and Shenandoah. These teams are new to the game and field co-ed teams which must compete with an all-boys schedule. Other teams like Union Local and Monroe Central, which also field co-ed teams, have been around a little longer. As interest continues to grow, might those teams expand into individual boys' and girls' teams? There are currently 27 schools competing on the boys' side and 24 on the girls. As youth league numbers continue to grow, the call for a soccer team at other OVAC-area high schools may grow as well. Read the full article

The below calls 4 shoot out if not fathomed dude
The timer technology described below can also have the wall clock technology, where the tip of like hour pointed hand rubs on metallic plates at intervals within the clock like timer on how its set to switch on on places that it rubs on metallic plates connected with wire to meet the metallic hour counting hand and switches off the circuit when it turns on areas where aint got the same rubbing metallic feeling, they can be made many to switch off/on many times within an hour depending with the machine which harbor that timer. As in the song link below, Christ with rabbi to aid us dude, women my life kinda, that way, i have been drinking a little bit getting tipsy and smoking myth/says dude

Gear motor like 4 the ceiling lights moving much slowly as can increase, decrease speed to either lengthen or shorten timer set time, where the outside gear to the push and pull switch that whether on or off the switch tip on same position- rotates to take it down to either switch the circuit on or off after another sequence as in the links below

EVERYBODY LOVES FIN: EPISODE 19
Tumblr media
Canucks Twitter has never been more passionate, divisive and heavily opinionated; let’s go with an all-encompassing—vibrant. Any fan base is a community of people with thoughts to share, and luckily for others, content to create for a wider audience. I have to admit, I’ve been largely on the outside of Canucks Twitter, merely because I tend to direct my opinions to a TV screen rather than on social media. That being said, lately my sister, Pass it to Bulis contributor and Botchford Project recipient, Natalie Hoy, has been encouraging me to listen to more Canucks-centric podcasts. It’s been a fun time.
2010s: Does Vancouver really need two all-sports radio stations? 2020s: Does Vancouver really need 741 Canucks podcasts?

The world of ‘audio blogging’ has only grown over the past few years. Listeners are able to multi-task - exercising, cooking, cleaning, driving or on public transit - while plugged in to a new episode on practically any personal device. It’s a form of entertainment, often interactive, and a perfect creative outlet for amateur (and experienced) broadcasters looking for a new project. There is no shortage of podcasts courtesy of Canucks Twitter, a testament to the commitment and drive of fans, and the accessibility of the art form. With the Qualifying Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs just about underway, there is much to be talked about. Let’s take a look at what’s out there.1
C4 Podcast
Founded: July 2013
Players: Chris Golden (@lyteforce), Anna Forsyth (@aforsyth03),Matt Lee (@mattlee_61)
Premise: The longest-running, active Canucks podcast (birthed from Canucks Hockey Blog) has been on-air for 7 years! Originally co-hosted by Chris and parody song creator Clay Imoo (@CanuckClay), the podcast offers commentary about current Canucks and NHL affairs, prospects, expectations, reminiscing on the team’s past (memories of the retired taco lover Eddie Lack and past playoff runs), and features interviews with guests. This past season, they’ve had Patrick Johnston (The Province), Satiar Shah (Sportsnet 650), Cam Robinson (Elite Prospects, Dobber Prospects) and Dan Murphy (Sportsnet) in the hot seat.

In the "longest-running" #Canucks #PodcastLikeThat, @risingaction joins @aforsyth03 @lyteforce & @mattlee_61 to talk about the summer training camp so far, how the Canucks match against the Wild, Rathbone, Tryamkin and so much more! https://t.co/ACreWPcPWC

Founded: December 2019 (relaunch)
Players: Sean Warren (@SeanyeWest234), Samantha (@samanthacp_), Malcolm Ert (@malcolmert), Bradley Thomas (@bradthomas_96), Eric (@breakawayeric), Bailey Broadbent (@baileybroadcast)
Premise: Area 51 celebrated a relaunch last December since their inception in July 2019, and in May welcomed a team to join host Sean Warren. Aside from their cool, alien conspiracy branding, at the mic they cover a broad range of hockey talk with notable guests (writers and broadcasters in the media, content creators, musicians, WHL players, fellow blog/podcast owners, Canucks Autism Network). I love that they’ve started to cover important topics beyond the gameplay, like anti-racism, inclusivity, and diversity in sports, and have actively sought out the guests to do so.

Cap Space Wins Cups
Founded: February 2020
Players: Hassan Ahmed (@_hassanahmed9), Ahsan Ahmed (@ace103196), Hussain Ahmed (@hussain11ahmed)
Premise: The newly formed podcast has a light, humorous tone - evident by their inaugural episode introduction about their lack of social media followers. They cover quick hits of the Canucks week, roster situations, hockey culture, and of course, cap space. They’ve hosted fellow podcast hosts and media (Satiar Shah, J.D. Burke, Matthew Sekeres, Jeff Paterson), and even a fellow Burnaby kid, Massimo Rizzo. Rizzo was a 2019 Carolina Hurricanes draft pick. It’s clear they have a lot more to share, including takes in on their corresponding blog – see: How the Canucks Can Acquire Dougie Hamilton & Build a Cup Contender. I’ll read anything related to Dougie Hamilton.

The Broadscast
Founded: July 2020
Players: Vanessa Jang (@vanessajang), Georgia Twiss (@georgiatwiss), Samantha (@samanthacp_), Mallory (@sports_lesbian), Danielle Huntley (@danihuntley)
Premise: Your ‘local hockey girl gang’ talks Canucks, sports culture, and soap operas. All 5 hosts have a significant following on Twitter and are bold and uncompromising, which makes for great statements and table chatter. This was written with only their Teaser episode released, but you can expect no shortage of pop culture references, fashion discussion, NHL wives and girlfriends (WAG) and pet content, along with team analysis. It’s trailblazing for a group of females in Vancouver to start their own podcast that’s hockey-focused, meant to be a casual chat amongst friends. They know the team, know their media, can gossip, and are having fun with it.

PUCKS ON NET
Founded: September 2013
Players: Ryan Schaap (@schaaptop), Geeta Reddy (@geetanjalireddy), Paul McLellan (@McLellanPaul), Dave McPhail (@PucksOnDave)
Premise: The group of 4 has created a casual, honest atmosphere with their roundtable conversation. They’re good friends, which equates to great camaraderie. They run a ‘contradictory’ fantasy hockey league and don’t talk ‘fancy stats’ (while still being very knowledgeable). I think they’re engaged with their listeners, and relatable as human beings amongst their talk of Tim Hortons NHL trading cards, player safety, current signings and acquisitions, and Green Day at the All-Star Game. Reaching 7 years of consistent hockey talk and recapping the team’s evolution is a feat in its own.

And on Sunday, Ryan sat down with his old man for Father's Day to talk about growing up playing minor hockey in Calgary, bonding over the Vancouver #Canucks and even his words of wisdom when it comes to talking to your kids about drugs.https://t.co/BaQFM53Yws

The Canucks Conversation
Founded: November 2018
Players: Chris Faber (@ChrisFaber39), David Quadrelli (@Quadrelli)
Premise: Faber was joined by Quads in 2020, and the pair has perhaps the most praised local podcast so far. They’re both BCIT Radio Arts and Entertainment students (and writers for CanucksArmy), and their dedication, preparedness, branding and reporting level are top notch. They break down topics with great chemistry and perception - roster moves, Nikita Tryamkin, Olli Juolevi, and the Judd Brackett situation. Some of their notable guests include Utica Comets Kole Lind and Brogan Rafferty, and ‘bionic’ Finn Sami Salo.

Founded: April 2019
Players: Matthew Zator (@MatthewZatorSC)
Premise: Matthew Zator, writer for The Hockey Writers and Hockey Ops Director at Overtime Heroics, made a return to the airwaves this past July (after a lengthy regular season hiatus). Since getting back up and running, it’s full steam ahead – Zator has been joined by contributors from The Hockey Writers, The Canuck Way, college hockey newsletter Fresh Ice, and fellow podcast hosts. He has good insight and as a writer who goes into depth about NHL draft picks, the Vancouver Giants, and both the Nucks’ positives and negatives in his work, it gets noticeably transferred to the on-air conversation.

Players: Tej Dhaliwal (@DrTejDhaliwal), Sat Oberoi (@SatOberoi), Nav Dosanjh (@NavDosanjh1983), Ryan Cassels (@cassels_music)
Premise: The Larschcasters are known for their entertaining banter and debates, mostly on hockey and a little NFL. They’ve picked the minds of seasoned media (Scott Oake, James Duthie, Joey Kenward), legendary broadcaster Jim Robson, and former Canucks Kirk McLean, Chris Higgins and Shane O’Brien. They’ve been generating healthy content during the pandemic, including a spirited debate with Minnesota Wild podcast hosts, discussing media personnel moves, prospects, NHL Award contenders, and the toxicity in the Vancouver Canucks market. In June, they released a special with hockey coach/trainer Jennifer Chefero, sharing her story facing sexual abuse and harassment in her career, while candidly discussing women’s rights and sports culture.

Founded: October 2019
Players: Brayden Ursel (@bkursel23), Ted (@tee3ree), Ryan Hank (@always90four)
Premise: A tagline like “three guys from Kelowna bringing the heat and spitting the takes” doesn’t need further explanation. Appearing at the beginning of this season, the podcast (which features writers from The Canuck Way and CanucksArmy) has had some nice guests like the Canucks inaugural captain Orland Kurtenbach, retired centre and current Kelowna Rockets Assistant Coach Vern Fiddler, and Paul “Biznasty” Bissonnette. They’ve been nominated for Kelowna Now’s Best Local Podcast, and have a ‘Dudes and Guys’ segment where they pit 2 players against one another and talk it out (criteria is debatable).

Premise: SCT is Strictly Canucks Talk. Aside from reminiscing about ‘where were you when’ pivotal moments in franchise history occurred and the regular shop talk of performance and #NamStats, they draw in guests to talk about trade value (The Athletic’s Harman Dayal) and stickhandling (specialist/trainer Pavel Barber). They’ve also hosted local defenceman and last year’s 4th overall draft pick Bowen Byram, and hockey analyst/retired winger Anson Carter for a chat about the pressure of the market in Vancouver and the Sedins. Players: Adrian J. Haug (@adrianjhaug), Roy Styles (@roy_styles)
Premise: Takes from 2 arm chair GM’s, the pair discuss a wide variety of topics like losing streaks, hockey safety, report cards, line-ups, and trade deadline. They’ve also shared an insightful chat with Harman Dayal (The Athletic) about his career and the late and great Jason Botchford. It’s laid-back and conversational, with mentions of farmers’ tans, celebrating birthdays during quarantine, and the school system strung across introductions. What’s cool is they record the podcast from near and far away places – Kamloops, BC and Germany (!).

Famous Personalities Of India Like Babar Ali
The Youngest Headmaster
Babar Ali is the youngest headmaster in the world who started his school in his backyard to serve the underprivileged community. At this young age when most of the students are looking for a job, Babar was already a headmaster of a school he started with only nine children.
Tumblr media
Babar was born on 18th March 1993 in the minority-community dominated village, Murshidabad of Gangpur, West Bengal. He was the eldest of four siblings, In 1998 Babar was admitted to the Primary School, two kilometers from his house, where he studied up to Class 4. In 2002, when he was nine, his father got him admitted to the Beldanga CRGS High School, about 10 kilometers away. Babar used to walk 2kms from his place to catch the bus. While returning from school, he used to see kids playing in the fields and used to ask them if they would like to study if he will teach them, and kids always said yes. Babar took this seriously and he started teaching them under the guava tree. In this batch of 8 children, one was his sister Amina Khatun. Since he had no stationery like pens and notebooks, he created a blackboard out of terracotta titles and started using newspaper as reading material. Then his father contributed 600rs for buying some stationery material. Finally, in 2003, the school had an official inauguration and it was named Ananda Shiksha Niketan (House of Happy Learning). In 2005 when he was in class eighth, he was invited by Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen to Shantiniketan, the prestigious center of learning founded by Rabindranath Tagore, to speak about his school.
Wearing his school uniform, Babar used to travel to the big cities to ask government officials to help him with supplies for school. Those officers didn't let his morale go down. Instead, they approached the sub-divisional magistrate Sabuj Barun Sarkar to be the president of his school’s governing body. In 2008, Babar passed his high school with the first division. Babar received the CNN IBN Real Hero Award from the actor Aamir Khan. BBC  traveled out to his town to expound on him. He was only sixteen when BBC named the 'youngest headmaster in the world' in October 2009. Babar noticed that there was a need for a proper school building. He bought a wasteland near his place using the prize money of Real Hero award, but that amount wasn't enough to construct a building. Babar was also awarded the ‘Indian of the Year’ award by the NDTV and LITERACY HERO AWARD, BY ROTARY INDIA LITERACY MISSION and was featured in ‘FORBES ASIA’ in their 30 under 30 list as a ‘SOCIAL ENTREPRENEUR’, also received Education leadership award by BBC knowledge.
People started being jealous of his achievements as he had so much at such a young age. Even, he had to appear for his college exams under police protection. In 2012 Babar was featured in Aamir Khan’s popular TV show Satyameva Jayate. He became a Ted Fellow, talking about his school at the Ted Talks in Mysore, Karnataka. His other achievement came in front of him when Babar's story was included by the Central Board of Secondary Education syllabus for Class 10 and also by the Karnataka government in the prescribed English book for the first-year PU course. Babar then purchased around 7,200 square feet of land there at a price of rupees ten lakh, donated by one of his supporters Ms. Almitra Patel in 2013. The newly built school was inaugurated in November 2015. It was three kilometers away from the previous school. It was difficult for the students to commute and hence Babar also started school buses for student's ease.
“Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached.” - Swami Vivekanand
Meanwhile, his first batch of eight students have entered college, and are now teaching at his school. The school is ceaselessly extending and has an aggregate of ten staff individuals, including eight educators. His story is evidence of the fact that if you have a will then there is away. If a 9-year-old can alone change the world then it is an inspiration for all of us to come out of our closed cocoons and help to make a difference.

Why Matt Rhule has a chance to be a successful NFL coach
By Sam Mehr                                                                                                      1/28/20
Tumblr media
As the wheels of the NFL coaching carousel churned once again in the winter of 2020, an interesting hire came across the newswires. The Carolina Panthers hired former Baylor coach Matt Rhule as their next head coach to replace veteran coach Ron Rivera. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Panthers doled out a 7 year 60 million dollar contract (which can reach 70 million if incentives are reached). In short, the Panthers made a colossal commitment to a guy who has only 1 year of NFL experience (2012 as an assistant offensive line coach with the New York Giants). Additionally, the track record of head coaches transitioning from college to the NFL has been mixed at best. At any rate, I believe the marriage between Rhule and the Panthers has the chance to be a fruitful one for a variety of reasons.
Matt Rhule has a strong resume as a winning coach. A former linebacker at Penn State in the mid-1990s, Rhule has been a head coach at Temple University (2013-2016) and Baylor University (2017-2019). Following a 2-10 debut season at Temple, he increased the win total for the Owls over his next three seasons there. He won 10 games in each of his last two seasons at Temple (10-4 in 2015 and 10-3 in 2016). Rhule joined Baylor in 2017, a football program in ruins following a sexual assault scandal that enveloped figures such as head coach Art Briles and president Kenneth Starr. Following a 1-11 inaugural season at the helm, Rhule led Baylor to a 7-6 record in 2018 (including a win over Vanderbilt in the Texas Bowl). In 2019, Baylor finished 11-3, and was invited to the prestigious Sugar Bowl (which they lost to Georgia). The point is that Rhule has consistently turned teams around. Thus, he has the chance to be an elixir for a Panthers team in need of a home improvement, as they have finished 29-35 over the last 4 seasons (with only one playoff appearance) since their Super Bowl trip in 2015.
Schematically, Matt Rhule has proven himself to be cutting edge. According to Zach Barnett of FootballScoop.com, Rhule ran an offense at Temple that was run-heavy. He utilized big personnel (2 running backs and 2 tight ends on the field at the same time). At Baylor, Barnett noted that he adopted the run-pass option system (a system where, on a given play, the quarterback puts the ball in the belly of the running back and either hands off or pulls the football and passes it). Rhule implemented this offense, Barnett wrote, because he recruited a lot of Texas high schoolers who ran that system at their respective schools. In short, Rhule has proven himself to be adaptable in terms of his x’s and o’s. This flexibility is critical in the NFL, where the opponent changes week to week, and trends throughout the league take hold as time passes by (ie the NFL becoming more pass-oriented in the late 2000s, etc). Finally, Rhule picked a bright young offensive coordinator in Joe Brady. Brady spent two seasons (2017-2018) as an offensive assistant with the New Orleans Saints. He worked under head coach Sean Payton, one of the best offensive minds in the NFL over his 14 seasons and counting with the Saints. Additionally, he got to observe future hall of fame quarterback Drew Brees. In 2019, Brady moved to LSU, a program that won the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship. Brady won the Broyles Award, an honor granted to the best assistant coach in college football, and assisted an offense that ranked first in all of college football in points per game (48.4).
Matt Rhule has a personality that is conducive to him being successful in the NFL. Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer wrote in January 2020 that when Rhule was at Baylor, he had an open dialogue with faculty in regards to whether his players were late or not when going to classes. This anecdote shows Rhule demands accountability and discipline from his players, two characteristics that translate well to winning football games. In that same article, Tom Coughlin, the former New York Giants head coach, said about Rhule, “He’s so humble; no ego.” Coughlin later added, “He is very good at helping players get better because he comes off as so human. He’s good about admitting mistakes, and that’s a way of saying he wants to get better and help everyone else get better.” These quotes from Tom Coughlin illustrate that Rhule is a very easygoing person (ie not someone who has an overinflated sense of self), and an open-minded nature. I think these qualities make him relatable to players, who will in turn want to accept his coaching and play hard for him. Matt Lombardo of NJ.com wrote in January 2020 about Rhule. Lombardo spoke with Brandon Noble, a teammate of Rhule’s at Penn State, and an assistant with Rhule at Temple. Noble said, “Matt always had a chip on his shoulder…that idea and that mentality he brought to Temple, all of those kids were reminded of it when we went to play Notre Dame and when they went to play Penn State and eventually beat them. Those guys had that chip-on-their-shoulder mentality. That ‘Temple tough,’ Northeast thing…Matt has it and he gets guys to believe it.” Noble’s quote illustrates that Rhule instills toughness in his players, and toughness is perhaps the most fundamental quality needed in a football team. Additionally, the above quote demonstrates that Rhule is a strong motivator to his players, which is one of the most important traits a coach needs in order to have success.
The Panthers roster has pieces that Rhule can utilize in order to attain success. Admittedly, there is some uncertainty at the quarterback position. Cam Newton, a former MVP and 3-time Pro Bowler, is recovering from foot surgery, and has a contract that can be voided with only a 2 million dollar salary cap hit. Also, Luke Kuechly, a future hall of fame linebacker, announced his retirement in January. Therefore, things aren’t perfect from a roster standpoint for Carolina. However, there are talented players still left over on both sides of the football. The offensive fulcrum for the Panthers is running back Christian McCaffrey. McCaffrey, a quick, powerful runner who is a great receiver as well, is one of the best players in the NFL.  In addition, the Panthers have D J Moore, a 22 year old wide receiver who caught 87 passes in 2019. Opposite Moore is Curtis Samuel, a versatile receiver who, besides catching the football, is capable of running it on reverses, sweep plays, etc. The Panthers have some talented defensive personnel under contract as well. Defensive tackle Kawann Short is a disruptive player who is stout vs the run, and can push the pocket and rush the quarterback (32.5 sacks over 7 seasons in the NFL). Defensive end/linebacker Brian Burns, the 16th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, is a fast player who is a promising pass rusher (7.5 sacks in his debut season). Finally, the Panthers have linebacker Shaq Thompson. Thompson is a speedy linebacker who is a tremendous athlete (he played linebacker, safety, and running back in college at Washington). Upon signing a 4 year 54 million dollar contract extension in December 2019, general manager Marty Hurney referred to him in a statement as “very versatile” and “the blueprint for what we want at the position.”
The hiring of Matt Rhule was one that was not without risk. Furthermore, the Panthers gave an astounding commitment both in terms of years and finances to their new head coach. However, Rhule has an excellent resume as a team builder. He is also very intelligent, both in terms of his football iq, and his ability to connect with his players. Finally, he possesses talented players at his disposal. Mixing all the variables together, I absolutely believe that Matt Rhule can be a home run addition for the Carolina Panthers.

The Game of Soccer and Its Continued Growth in the OVAC

Aarhus

Last summer I visited city of Aarhus after more than a decade, and I witnessed lots of exciting new changes to the city. Changes that made Aarhus much more vibrant, exciting and lively than before.
Aarhus is Denmark's second largest city with a population of approximately 340,000. It is located on the east of Jutland peninsula and it is the most important Economic and Cultural hub in the peninsula.
Today's Aarhus is much more interesting and exciting than the last time I visited it. There are so many new developments, buildings and infrastructures within the city. For example, Aarhus is now home to Denmark's only Light Rail Transportation system (opened August 2018), which is a perfect solution to the growing demands for the public transportation of Denmark's second largest city.
Another major development in Aarhus is the Aarhus Docklands (Aarhus Ø). The project started in 2008 and it converted the former container port of Aarhus to new residential, commercial and educational area. Aarhus Docklands became an attractive canvas for many famous Danish and International architects to showcase their latest designs. Perhaps the most famous building in the Aarhus Docklands is the eye-catching edifice designed by Julien de Smedt (JDS Architects), called "The Iceberg" (Isbjerget). The Iceberg was finished in 2013 and it received the Mipim Award of the same year. The building got its name by resembling Icebergs of the North Atlantic. They are a residential complex, overlooking the Bay of Aarhus and their unique design have quickly placed them as one of the symbols of the city of Aarhus.
Another waterfront development near Aarhus' Custom House is DOKK1, designed by the Danish architectural firm SHL (Schmidt Hammer Larsen) in 2015. DOKK1 is a public library, with over 1000 automated car parks and an open playground area for the kids. The combination of all these activities makes this building the source of city life for this area.
One of modern Aarhus' most visited building is the Aros Museum. Its new building, is a 10-storey edifice designed by SHL (Schmidt Hammer Larsen) and it was opened in 2004. It quickly became one of the city's biggest tourist attractions; to the point where it is Denmark's 2nd most visited museum after the famous Louisiana building in Humlebæk. Aros became even more famous and attractive after the completion of the Rainbow installation on its rooftop. The Rainbow is a circular shaped walkway with colorful glasses, coloring different parts of the city with rainbow colors, as the visitor walks along the circular path. It was designed by an Icelandic-Danish artist, Olafur Eliasson and it was opened in May of 2011.
The oldest part of the city of Aarhus is the Latin Quarter. It has always been filled with studios, galleries, shops, cafés and restaurants, but it is now more vibrant and social than ever. Latin Quarter is now home to many more relaxing and exciting restaurants and cafés which are the life of the city both during the day as well as the night.
One cannot talk about Aarhus without talking about "The Old Town" (Den Gamle By). Den Gamle by was originally inaugurated to the public in 1914 as an open-air museum, where visitors can go back in time and experience life in a typical Danish city throughout history. The museum takes you back in time before the 1900, during 1920s and during the 1970s, which is the newest addition to this amazing open-air museum.
Aarhus has gone through so many changes in the past decade and it is a better place to live. This rather small city has a lot to offer, from cultural events to recreational activities. From museums to social gathering spaces. Aarhus is definitely moving towards becoming a vibrant modern city, where it is providing comfort for its citizens and it is becoming more attractive for visitors and tourists.

2, 4, 6? - @bradmarchrad
2. favorite AHL teams?: I have been a fan of the Providence Bruins since their inaugural season way back in 1992 and I have been to countless games ever since. I’ve gotten to meet the team on more than one occasion and I’ve skated at the Dunk multiple times (way back in their first few seasons they used to do public skate before Sunday home games that my father would take me to since it was super cheap if you lived in Providence and if you had a ticket to that night’s game it was free)
4. how did your love for hockey start? Um, see above. When I was two years old I started  and at the end of the season, all the kids involved were given up to four tickets to a Providence Bruins game for free (it was their first season, they were trying to get people in the door).  My parents were sure if I’d like it, I kinda had a fear of loud noises as a little kid and my first Disney on Ice experience earlier that winter had been traumatizing, but from the very first puck drop little 2 year old me saw, I was hooked on hockey for life.
6. first player you ever liked? Tuukka Rask. Up until I was almost 23 years old, the only time I could watch hockey was if I went to a Providence Bruins game in person. My family didn’t get cable until 2008 and I wasn’t able to talk my parents into letting me have cable in my room until 2012 (just before the lock-out shortened season started). So I didn’t regularly start watching hockey until the 2013 playoffs. I don’t exactly know how Rask became my favorite player tbh, but the fact that I was at the milk crate game might have something to do with it.
