Lumberjanes Gets Its First OGN In 'The Infernal Compass' By Lilah Sturgess & Polterink
Lumberjanes Gets Its First OGN In ‘The Infernal Compass’ By Lilah Sturgess & Polterink
Surprisingly, Lumberjanes has never had an original graphic novel published by Boom! Studios. The popular property that’s also on its way to becoming a film, is finally getting the OGN treatment in Lumberjanes: The Infernal Compass. The new graphic novel will be written by Eisner Award-nominated writer Lilah Sturges (Jack of Fables, Justice Society of America) and illustrated by polterink. The…

Steve Morris/Boom! Comics
The Magicians is getting a graphic novel!!
Next summer, there’s going to be an all-new way for people to enter Brakebills College. Boom! Studios has acquired the comic book and graphic novel license to Lev Grossman’s The Magicians, and The Hollywood Reporter can exclusively reveal that the first release as part of the deal will be an original graphic novel by Lilah Sturges and Pius Bak titled The Magicians: Alice’s Story.
Scheduled for release in July 2019, Alice’s Story will adapt and expand upon the mythology of the first novel in Grossman’s series, refocusing the narrative from the point of view of Alice Quinn as she joins Brakebills and discovers the magical world of Fillory. In addition to debuting the cover to the graphic novel by Steve Morris (above), THR also spoke with the creative team, The Magicians creator Lev Grossman and Boom! Studios executive editor Sierra Hahn about the title.

How do you feel about alice? Alot of people ive seen either like or Really dont like her
I have complicated feelings about Alice in the show.
I personally feel like her character arc should have ended by episode 4x06 afterwards she basically regressed as a character which is immensely frustrating. I sympathize with her motives in s3 but I also think they were pretty selfish and self-centered - which is shown in the show - as to her relationships. Her and Quentin's relationship I don't really support because there was never any mutual respect or real affection between the two of them, it was a very drawn out toxic mess that lasted around 6ish months. I think her s1 relationship with Margo was really interesting and could have gone in a really compelling direction but the writers chose not to follow through on the thread. Similarly, her relationship with Penny was also very interesting and I think should have been followed through - she is, in fact, the only person in the group aside from Kady who tries to save Penny from death. I think Alice is a very complicated character with a lot of untapped potential - which is especially frustrating when the writers constantly claimed that she was super powerful and skilled and we never actually see those powers and skills explored on the screen.
However, I really love Alice in the books. She goes through a very complicated development that really endears me to her and I personally think her relationship with Quentin in the books, is more positive, even considering the stuff that happens between them. This is because Alice and Quentin actually like each other. She really grows as a character throughout the series - I especially recommend reading Alice's Story by Lilah Sturgess it's a great insight - and I love the conclusion to her arc in book three.

Just clarifying on the recent 'magic worlds should have hrt' post u said the magicians comic is cool,,, does someone trans their gender in it,,, iconic
Yes! The comic is The Magicians: New Class and the character's name is Emily! She's a trans woman and a hedge witch and when she gets to Brakebills the school doctor gives her a potion that makes her body automatically generate estriadol ! It's a whole page in the comic and when I first read it I cried 🙈 also!! New Class is written by a trans woman named Lilah Sturgess and the main antagonist is nonbinary and there's a main gay couple too!! It's really good!! AND HEY IF MORE PEOPLE BUY THE COMICS MAYBE WE'LL GET MORE

How Real Can You Make Magic? Lev Grossman & Lilah Sturges On The Magicians: Alice's Story
How Real Can You Make Magic? Lev Grossman & Lilah Sturges On The Magicians: Alice’s Story
Very modern fantasy novel series The Magicians (2009), The Magician King (2011) and The Magician’s Land (2014), by Lev Grossman, opened on the New York Times Best-Seller list at #1 twice, and has given rise to a TV series on Syfy that’s just completed its fourth season, with a fifth season coming up, much to the approval of a fairly rabid fandom.
The world of The Magiciansnaturally gives rise to…

ECCC 2018: Notes On The Embracing Body Diversity In Comics Panel
ECCC 2018: Notes On The Embracing Body Diversity In Comics Panel
At the Embracing Body Diversity in Comics Panel at Emerald City Comicon 2018, the panel, as it has in previous years, took the form of a very open and free-flowing discussion between panelists and audience members. As such, it’s hard to convey the panel to readers in a traditional format, but I thought it might be helpful to publish some notes that I took in a topical way during the event. Some…
