Mankai Stage Spring 2022 [unnamed Tsuzuru zombie song] translation
idk the actual name of the song so I’ll just leave it as the tsuzuru zombie song for now. it’s so catchy and has been stuck in my head ever since I watched it even though 90% of it is just maeyuki moaning and groaning to the beat <3
take this with a grain of salt since I haven’t seen any lyrics for this song around on twitter so I had to transcribe it myself, thus it might be inaccurate:)
*Tsuzuru, with really dark circles under his eyes, picking himself up from the floor*
Morning… is almost here
Ughh Arrghh Shit… Ughh Suffering
Arrgh Ahhhhh Uugh Haah Sleepy
Nothing is coming out, but the impending deadline does not wait. Attached to the desk with no time to rest, the playwright writes without sleep.
Uugh Gahh Ughh Arrghh Just a bit more *chugs 2 bottles of 5-hour Energy shots and dry heaves*
It’s done!! *wildly dancing and waving the completed script around like a madman* The script! This is the best! Hurry! To everyone! The script! This is the best! Hurry! *puking sounds as he falls to the floor*
The script! This is… (the best) *stumbles backstage*
.
Kanji (I couldn’t find any lyrics on twitter so I tried transcribing it myself, so it may be inaccurate):
朝が 来てしまう
うう… ああ… くそ… うう… 苦しい
うう… ああ… うぉ… うう… 眠い
何も出てこない それでも待ってくれない 迫り来る締め切り 机に向かえ 休んでる暇わねぇ 寝ずに書け脚本家
うう… ああ… うう… ああ… あとちょっと
書けた!! 脱稿! 最高! 早く! みんなに! 脱稿! 最高! 早く!

Friends to Lovers Tournament: Quarterfinals, Match 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
propaganda under the cut!
Makoharu:
They are the first ship that comes to mind when I think of friends to lovers. I know Free! hasn't been popular since 2013, bug I just love them so much... Makoto's devotion to Haru. There's even a movie that flashes back to when they're kids when Makoto says "I love swimming and I love Haruka". Soft...
Fuyupoly:
Submission 1:
they're from the winter troupe of the mankai company, and unlike the other troupes they're all adults. that said, they all have varying degrees of trauma and emotional stuntedness. it takes them some time to fully open up to each other bc they're all very cautious of each other's boundaries and don't want to cross any lines which initially led to some issues in the group's formation. over time they've learned to bridge the gap while still being mindful of hard boundaries. at one point they have a discussion about what exactly their relationship is (gay) cuz they were talking about how the other troupes have clearly defined dynamics (spring=family, summer=besties, autumn=rivals & teammates) but they don't,, and homare deadass says they're "people bound by a common destiny" which in and of itself sounds very Gay (like why are you as a man bound to other men by a common destiny), but it goes even further because homare starts spouting WEDDING VOWS: "In sickness and in health, for better or for worse, we shall share our laughter and our tears as those with an intertwined fate... How beautiful we are!" THIS IS A DIRECT QUOTE FROM THE GAME AND THE MC EVEN REMARKS "i can already hear wedding bells in the distance..."
gradually they become closer, in individual sub-units based on who's paired up as co-leads for a play, and as a troupe overall. also two of its members are childhood friends who had a messy 'divorce' in their young adulthood and it took the game breaking its genre to introduce a timeloop for them to finally make up if that means anything to you. one of their troupe songs "precious to us ~bokura no kisetsu" has some pretty beautiful and fruity lines: "The many kindnesses born in me here / Never fail to breathe life into my chest / Even all the pain and bitterness / Have now become dear to me (Ah…Stay with me)", "No matter how many times our season passes / Let us keep living together / Holding our hands, without ever letting go / Let us open up the curtain of tomorrow", "There is no need for words, because once our gazes meet / Joy sparks a light in your eyes", "Our journey, may it be a brilliant one / As our breaths overlap as one"
a lot of their plays has a LOT of homoerotic tension between the two leads too. their first play has tsumugi and tasuku play angels, and it's heavily implied that tasuku's character has an unrequited crush on tsumugi's character. their third play has azuma play a vampire and tasuku play Just Some Guy and it's generally agreed in the fandom to be one of the gayest, if not THE gayest, play A3 has ever written. obviously the vampire thing is very fruity, but there's also how the vampire was longing to bite the human but was holding himself back, and when the vampire left the human in the end, the human was absolutely HEARTBROKEN over it and was swearing they would reunite one day. the stage play of this takes it even further by having the vampire embrace the human from behind and BITE his neck. the fourth play is a watered-down adaptation of Phantom of the Opera where they genderbend Christine into Chris among other things and change the relationship between Chris and the Phantom to one of friendship.... ostensibly so, because there's still a lot of homoerotic undertones in their interactions. i could go on but this should be enough of a sampling taste
Submission 2:
the writers rlly said "let's take 2 normal guys who are childhood friends and have been into theatre since their school days and have them go through a pre-canon messy divorce, an eccentric poet with a potentially controversial haircut, an amnesiac sleepyhead who can only be awoken with marshmallows but is also somehow extremely athletic despite doing nothing but sleeping and eating marshmallows all day, a man who is so beautiful and mysterious he breaks gender, and a supposed android from a fictional south asian country, and throw them into a blender, oh and for good measure let's throw in some theatre and angst and gay and angst and gay" and the end result was marriage. i mean it took them a lot of awkward fumbling around and conflicts to get there but they got there and thats what matters. ok *technically* in-text they're all rlly good friends and kinda found family BUT they are found family via marriage papers i do not make the rules chief
Submission 3:
The reason why they are so friends-to-lovers to me is because their relationship is founded on quiet and unconditional acceptance of each other—regardless of how flawed they may be or how heavy their burdens and trauma may be. When the troupe first formed (sans Guy who was in another country at the time), they didn’t have any major clashing personalities at the very beginning and generally they were mindful of each other’s boundaries, unlike the other troupes that came before them. However, it’s BECAUSE they were too mindful of said boundaries that it was difficult for them to break down their walls and bond as a team—and there were a LOT of walls to break down, as all of them had varying degrees of emotional baggage and trauma.
In fact, it’s only three plays in that they finally truly start opening up to each other, with Azuma getting the ball rolling by opening up about the deep loneliness that haunted him ever since his childhood. It’s during this conversation that they also discuss what their relationship as a troupe is, because the other troupes have defined their relationship as a team (Spring is family, Summer is best friends, Autumn is rivals & teammates), and Homare goes on to declare that they’re “people bound by a common destiny” and goes on to spew wedding vows: "In sickness and in health, for better or for worse, we shall share our laughter and our tears as those with an intertwined fate... How beautiful we are!" I mean… it can’t get any more obvious than this, really. They are married.
But anyway, Tsumugi says he wants their relationship to be one where while they respect each other’s need for space, they’ll also be there for each other and share their pains and burdens—or in his words: “supporting each other when our burdens become too heavy to bear on our own”—which I think is really sweet because it carries this idea of quiet, unconditional acceptance; they don’t push each other to share more than they’re comfortable with sharing, but with whatever they ARE comfortable with sharing everyone carries the load and pain because pain is easier to bear when you’re not bearing it alone <3
A later part of the story focuses on Hisoka, a mysterious amnesiac, being terrified of regaining his memories and facing some “sin” from his past that has led to another character, Chikage, trying to take revenge on him. When he confesses this to the rest of the Winter troupe, Homare asks, “How heavy is this sin you bear?” and Azuma suggests, “Perhaps it’s just heavy enough for the five of us to carry together.” (at this point Guy hasn’t joined yet). The stage play adapts this scene into a song called Key to Memory. The key (pun unintended) part is 1:27 where there’s a back-and-forth between Hisoka and the other Winter troupe members (sans Tasuku because he wasn’t in that particular play)
Hisoka: “I’m scared…”
Tsumugi, Homare, Azuma: “It’s okay.”
Hisoka: “My unforgivable sin…”
Tsumugi, Homare, Azuma: “Let’s carry it together.”
Hisoka: “I might not be me anymore.”
Tsumugi, Homare, Azuma: “It’s all right. We understand and we accept you, so let’s go together.”
And it ends with Hisoka singing: “I was afraid to open the door of my locked memories. But if everyone is here, I believe I can do it.”  In both the game and stage play, Hisoka fully regains his memories and reconciles with Chikage (long story). He tells Fuyupoly he can’t go into detail about his past with Chikage because it’s dangerous but he’ll tell them when the time is right, and they accept this saying that no matter what his past is, they know and love him as their Hisoka which obviously is a very sweet thing for friends to say, but it’s also very Marriage-coded to me.
Later, Guy is introduced as an android from Zahra (a fictional South Asian country) and joins the Winter troupe as a temporary member—because he’s stuck in Japan for the foreseeable future—until they find a permanent member to replace him. The other Winter members have a conversation among themselves and agree that regardless of whether he’s really an android or a human they’ll accept Guy for who he is and help him improve his acting, which again harkens back to the idea of ‘unconditional acceptance’. Eventually it’s revealed that Guy is in fact a human who has forgotten his memories of the past and his emotions. He recovers his memories all at once which shocks his system and causes him to pass out. When he wakes up in his room, he finds the rest of the Winter Troupe asleep around the room—which I believe is symbolic of their whole theme of “quiet acceptance”: they don’t want to push Guy to share beyond what he’s comfortable with, but they’re always there to listen to him and share his load if that’s what he wants. He opens up about the memories he recovered, and they don’t treat him with pity like he’s a lost child, but still extend gentle empathy and understanding. They also emphasise that it genuinely doesn’t matter to them whether he’s human or android because he’s Guy first and foremost. It’s at this point that Guy truly lets himself become part of the Winter troupe/Fuyupoly and not just as a temporary stand-in member, because he’s found a place where he’s found himself again and people who will accept who this “himself” is, whether that be an android devoid of emotions or a human brimming with vivid beautiful emotions.
[Mod note: There’s a LOT more but we’re afraid of crashing the post. I (Deli) summarised it the best I can since I’m familiar with A3, but if you want to read the full thing you can check it out on this google doc)

Subdate (aha puns)
Yu Yu Hakusho 2 is nearly done! I will just add the curtain call subs because they're funny and sweet, and then after a final check it's done!! Ochanomizu Rock (stage) is also kinda close to being done. I may hardsub that one? Not sure what to do next, I was thinking of doing the Kurogarasu movies (tho honestly nobody would care if I did those), so suggestions are welcome ( I own a lot of dvds for Mankai Stage, Toumyu, and most plays Sakiyama Tsubasa is in + a bunch of things Sasamori Hiroki and Okamiya Kurumu are in..., for anything else I'd need the video.)

Fruits Basket (2019) ended last season, so time to point out how our A3! cast are coping with the end, and what their connections are to the shoujo anime
Fruits Basket is another anime the whole troupe watches
^ Muku is the one who brought everyone together to watch it
Pre-Mankai, everyone had seen some of it (some had seen it all)
Everyone has related to at least one character
The Original (2001) has been played numerous times in the dorm
^ Often used to lighten the mood a little
The OP/EDs are quite popular at Mankai
On days episodes would release, a tissue box would be bought
‘Ooh, I hope we can do a stage adaptation of Fruits Basket, it would be a dream come true’ - Muku during one evening of Fruits Basket watching
Street Acts focusing on the series on days when it airs
The Shoujo Manga Appreciation Club has only read the whole manga, including the spin-offs
^ Now that the adaptation has ended, there will be sub-troupe meetings to read it all
As Fruits Basket: the Final has finished, everyone misses the shoujo...
The next part will be out next week starting with fuyugumi, but welcome to my new series of headcanons ^^

Scrapped Scenario: Sakyo & Izumi (but really just Sakyo) announcing their engagement
Fleshed out a rough outline I had in my WIP folder but couldn’t find a way to write it out properly into a scenario, so take these bullet points instead!
So over the years Mankai Company has gained enough popularity that they’re considered as celebrities in Veludo Way and other theater-hotspots, and pretty much pseudo-celebrities in Japan.
Although they’re active in engaging their fans, they try their best to keep their personal lives to themselves to help maintain a sense of normalcy.
During an after-show talk where all sub-troupes are present, Sakyo just out of the blue says something serious like, “Before we continue, I need to announce something important regarding how I’ll be moving forward in the future.”
Matsukawa and Izumi, the moderators of the after-show talk (normally the sub-troupes moderate themselves but all 24 actors on stage at the same time??? That’s just inviting chaos to happen), are internally panicking because this was not planned!! And if it’s Sakyo making the announcement, obviously shit is about to go down.
Sakyo clears his throat before speaking in a more serious tone than usual,
“I am extremely grateful for all the support I’ve received from our fans as an actor these past years. Normally, I try my best to keep my professional life and personal life separate but given the situation it has been increasingly difficult to do so. As such, I would like to be upfront with you all as I feel it is my obligation to you, the fans of the Mankai Company.”
Murmurs break out from both the audience and the actors as Sakyo pauses to collect his thoughts. Wtf is going on??? Is Sakyo leaving the Mankai Company???
Izumi finally realizes what’s going on and immediately face palms, resisting the urge to groan out loud because they agreed to announce this at the end of the talk, god dammit!! Now he’s making things messier and she’ll be left to deal with the aftermath and damage control all because he couldn’t keep his patience for like another hour!!!
Sakyo takes a deep breath. “The general director of the Mankai Company, Izumi Tachibana, and I are now engaged. I have been courting her for the past few years and recently asked for her hand in marriage. Against all odds, she deigned to accept my proposal. We have yet to decide on a wedding date but I ask for your understanding as I take on this responsibility to my fiancé. Rest assured that this will in no way affect our work relationship dynamic. We both intend to continue to do our best for the company. Please accept my apologies for being selfish in this regard but I truly want to spend the rest of my life with this woman.”
A silence overcomes the theater, everyone stunned at the bomb of an announcement that Sakyo just dropped.
That silence is promptly broken by Masumi knocking over his chair and Harugumi’s table in his haste to reach Sakyo and murder him.
Thankfully, Omi’s and Tsuzuru’s reflexes take precedence over their shock at the announcement and the two are able to restrain Masumi.
At once, cacophony takes over the theater.
Questions all around from both the audience and the actors.
Mixed reactions from tears of happiness for the couple, indignant sobbing, etc.
Yuki demands that he be the one to design their wedding outfits. He will not take no for an answer.
Likewise, Omi volunteers to help plan their wedding banquet, and possibly cook/bake all of it idk he could probably do it
All the while, above all, Masumi is shouting his objections.
Azami gives Sakyo shit, saying stuff like, “Oh, so you decided to take responsibility for your indecent actions now? Don’t even try to deny it, I’ve caught you in the act before.”
Both the actors and the audience are like…??? How dare you traumatize Azami like that???
Older actors are like wtf??? The audacity??? Under the same roof???
Younger actors are a mix of embarrassed and indignant. Must. Protect. Director.
Masumi starts making more animalistic sounding noises. Citron produces a handkerchief from wherever and promptly gags Masumi. Masumi still continues screaming but at least the profanities are muffled.
With his bravado and ego boosted at everyone’s reactions, Azami continues to call Sakyo out.
“That’s right, old man! I’ve seen your lewd handholding with the director before! How dare you dishonor her like that before your engagement! I cannot approve of this union.”
Bless Azami, such a pure boi, never change. Preserve his innocence pls.
Once they see Masumi’s and Azami’s reactions, several other members of the company join in on heckling Sakyo for “stealing their beloved director away”.
Not sure how this resolves but this is 100% a messy, chaotic situation that escalates when Masumi eventually breaks out of Omi’s and Tsuzuru’s hold.
Once the after-show talk FINALLY ends, the entire company has a heart-to-heart regarding the situation.
Tears all around. Loud, ugly sobbing. etc.
Ends up with all of them sleeping in a big pile in the living room.
Things cool down after their talk but for the first few weeks of Sakyo & Izumi’s engagement, many of the actors are torn between being happy for Izumi or bullying Sakyo.

Happy Birthday, Sakuya 🌸
Without you, there won’t be Mankai Company and our story together wouldn’t have begun. In honor of your birthday and the release of your second solo song, please read the letters that I wrote for you about how the troupe members think about you.
Tumblr media
a.n.
I know the format might be weird, but I wrote this addressing Sakuya, so the ‘you’ here refers to Sakuya. I just thought of writing something for him to read so yes, do take note that you need to read everything below as if you’re Sakuya!
Tumblr media
Masumi Usui
Your days of taking care of him as a leader, as a friend, as a brother really made an impact to him. Although Masumi never explicitly reciprocated your love, he has grown to listen and respect you. Allowing you to be involved in his business, hugging him, choosing to depend on you, and taking the time to listen to your words are mere proofs of him considering you as part of his family.
Both you and Masumi never really knew what true family should be like, but I’m sure your time together made both of you understand what it meant to have a brother who would stick by your side no matter what.
Tumblr media
Tsuzuru Minagi
He has immense faith in you, Sakuya. All the scripts he had written for your role have definitely been adjusted to suit you and you alone. He would have never written a role where he knew you couldn’t perform in.
Without you as the leader, he would also have gone mad dealing with the antiques of the other members. As much as he acts as the mediator, the middle ground of the chaos ensuing in Spring Troupe from time to time, he appreciates your presence as the leader who has grown so much more dependable throughout the years.
Dare I say, sometimes, he glances at you and smiles softly, proud you as one of his little brothers that he cherishes deeply.
Tumblr media
Itaru Chigasaki
Sure, he might view you as a token of gacha luck to bring that SSR home, but you’re definitely more than that. Him accepting his role as the father of Spring Troupe was his way of committing to the found family that he has now. The family that you have established.
Deep down, he’s eternally grateful for your ceaseless attempts to convince him to stay and perform with the troupe during Romeo and Julius. Without you, he wouldn’t have met this group of people with whom he could drop his mask and completely be his true self.
Tumblr media
Citron
He enjoys seeing your face light up with wonder and excitement not because he takes pleasure in teasing you, but I believe he wants to preserve that childlike innocence in you as much as possible.
Despite what others might think, I genuinely believe Citron only wants you to feel happy and ignore the negativity and evil that lie in this world. The greatest pleasure in his days has always been to see you smile right after you wake up and before you fall asleep at night. Don’t you think that’s why he enjoys telling you those magical, bombastic, wonderous stories?
Tumblr media
Chikage Utsuki
Admittedly, he still enjoys tricking you during your daily coin toss, but he will stop at nothing to ensure you do not need to worry about a thing in life.
After all, you were the first to not give up on him and still saw him favorably (or should I say objectively without any judgment) despite his actions towards Izumi and Mankai in general.
Tumblr media
Putting all the other troupe members under the cut so this won’t get too long!
Tumblr media
Tenma Sumeragi
You do know this child actor genius took the audition for Mankai because of you, right? You, who thought your acting was sub-par, turned out to inspire a veteran to face his fears and took that step.
How could Tenma ever thank you properly for that? That’s why as a fellow troupe leader, he would make sure to practice often with you, giving you acting pointers whenever he could. Not to demean you, but to lift you up so both of you can bloom together on stage as equals.
Tumblr media
Yuki Rurikawa
He comments about your naivety, but I dare say he actually envies you for it. Being part of the minority and adopting a cynical approach to life proves to be tiring at times. The positive outlook in life despite your background is definitely something that he has considered to adopt at some point in time.
To him, you’re a reminder that being positive is an option. As much as he seems baffled by your innocence, he is part of the crew that does his best to preserve that side of you.
Tumblr media
Muku Sakisaka
You two are angels! I can only imagine both of you continue being the precious babies that you are. Muku adores you and definitely considers you one of his precious older brothers.
His enthusiasm is reciprocated with you around and your presence lifts up his spirit as well. You are each other’s healing spirit in a way. Always be there for each other, and just by being together, both of you remind all of us that staying pure is a choice and such sight heals us on a daily basis.
Tumblr media
Misumi Ikaruga
He’s off on scavenging triangles for your birthday! Apparently, he heard the cats sang praises about you the other day. As thanks for being his friend and for being kind to the kitties, he’s going to find a special triangle just for you.
Thank you for being so kind and understanding to him, and for becoming his faithful friend, one of his precious treasures in life.
Tumblr media
Kazunari Miyoshi
How many times have you appeared in Kazu’s Inste feed, I wonder. He always seem to find joy in sharing what he found that might be of interest to you.
Both of you are expressive so it’s no surprise either when Kazu wants to hear your opinion on anything. Hope you find those times to be exciting. It is after all, quite rare, to find someone to be candid with these days.
Tumblr media
Kumon Hyodo
Both of you are quite literally sunshine in human form. At times too bright for some, but that’s why both of you should continue being you.
Even Kumon admits watching you lifts his spirits, can you imagine the influence you have in improving the mood of those around you? Sakuya, as Kumon said, please stay true to yourself and keep being you. Your smile and positivity radiate and I honestly think we all need someone like you in our lives.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Banri Settsu
Don’t feel bad if he lets you borrow his clothes, or if he buys you stuff! It’s his way of letting you know he cares deeply for you. Please don’t think that you’re not worthy of receiving such gifts or even having his company.
If anything, all he wants is to see you all happy with that beaming smile. Keep being the sunshine that you are because I’m sure that’s what Banri wants for you!
Tumblr media
Juza Hyodo
The passionate duo; both of you talk about acting a lot and I’m glad you have someone to share your thoughts and passion with.
Juza considers you as a companion of some sort, he seems to always asking you to practice or do etudes together. Just knowing that both of you can support one another in your endeavours is heartwarming. But, please don’t eat too much sweets if you can’t take it. I’m sure Juza would understand.
Tumblr media
Taichi Nanao
He likes to try out new things and he’s grateful that you are always open to his idea and agrees to accompany him whenever he tries them out.
Thank you for being a great friend for Taichi, but please make sure that you guys don’t go overboard and hurt yourselves. Wouldn’t want that to happen when you’re having fun, right?
Tumblr media
Omi Fushimi
How’s the Neapolitan that he cooked for you today? It must be delicious! All the love and affection he has for you has always been included in his cooking.
Thank you for being the best at helping him out in the kitchen and actually doing the chores. He appreciates it a lot, especially since the dishes don’t clean themselves and with more hands on deck, he is eternally grateful.
Tumblr media
Sakyo Furuichi
Both of you really have come along way, from him being doubtful about your potential until today. You did it, Sakuya! You proved him wrong, alright.
I believe you are his reminder to stay true to what your dreams are. In both of your cases, you both want to be an acknowledged actor. What a long way you two have come. Remember that you have the power to prove people wrong with your earnest determination and always remember that you manage to get Sakyo’s approval on your leadership and acting skills!
Tumblr media
Azami Izumida
This kid needs to learn a lot from you and he knows that even though he doesn’t readily admit to it. Being a leader isn’t a walk in the park, he realises that as soon as he meets the other troupe members.
Although both of you come from an entirely different background, with him being rebellious and all, he is bound to understand that being earnest as Sakyo has said, will benefit him in the long run. You are a great example for him to follow, and don’t need to feel the pressure! You’re fine the way you are, and this kid will soon learn so both of you can bloom together!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tsumugi Tsukioka
I’m pretty sure the cherry blossoms in the courtyard are well taken care of by Tsumugi because it also reminds him of you.
He looks out for you in the smallest ways which you might not have noticed. I’m pretty sure you realise by now that you can talk to him whenever you’re troubled, right? He will listen and he will be grateful he could be an emotional support for you.
Tumblr media
Tasuku Takato
Have you been working out a lot with him? I could start seeing those muscle lines on your arms and legs. Keep up the good work!
He cheers you on by always thinking of training menus for you, knowing that your motivation to be stronger is to build your stamina for better endurance while acting. Tasuku might not say anything, but deep down he appreciates you depending on him for such matters. (Don’t tell him I said this, please. He’ll deny it anyway)
Tumblr media
Hisoka Mikage
Being in the Christmas play together must have made you guys closer. Hisoka even mentioned how he looks forward to acting with you again.
Your caring nature did not go unnoticed. I believe he even gave you some marshmallows to try? And if that’s not him accepting you as one of his own, I don’t know what is.
Thank you for always looking out for him. He has you to thank for all the times he slept and was protected by the cold weather.
Tumblr media
Homare Arisugawa
I’m curious whether you actually understand Homare when he’s gushing about an inspiration for his poems. But, you always seem to listen intently and take the time to attempt at digesting the verses.
Homare adores you for that; not everyone can appreciate his poems, he knows that very well, but those who put in the effort to understand his world will always be remembered. And you, Sakuya, are one of them.
Tumblr media
Azuma Yukishiro
Being one of the oldest members of the company also meant that witnessing youth in action is always something that he looks out for everyday. This might explain why he’s a bit sad you’re one year older and more mature now.
His wish for you is simply to let you have no worries in life as you experience youth and the splendour it brings. You’re still young, so many doors of opportunities left to open. With that in mind, feel free to embrace your passion and continue pushing forward to reach your dream, Sakuya. He has your back and nothing will ever get in your way anymore.
Tumblr media
Guy
Honestly, please convince him that you enjoy Citron’s company. I’m confident that you never once considered Citron to be a nuisance or burden of any sort.
Just know that Guy is at your service for all the trouble that Citron has caused you. And in times of need, he will always be ready to assist you.

Mankai Stage Spring 2022 [A family who you can call home/ 家族という居場所] translation
there aren’t any official short clips or releases of this scene since it’s spoiler territory, but it’s the scene where sakuya talks to chikage during their sleepover before the rest of harugumi joins them onstage.
once again these lyrics have been transcribed by ear based on the 27/4/22 livestream so there may be some mistakes that I made or differences from the subsequent shows and official releases of this song :>
(16/7/22 edit: official track name has been added and lyrics checked!)
Sakuya: Ever since I was little, I never knew what it meant to be part of a “family” The existence of one that I observed from the audience, out of reach. I didn’t have any place where I could feel at ease
But here in this place, and spending time with everyone, I finally found a place where I can call home. To be a member of a family that I had always been watching from the audience I experienced a new feeling for the first time
It’s warm, and fun A place where they always make you smile I yearned for it I’ve always yearned for it A “family” who I can call my precious home
Citron: “Itaru, Sakuya’s here–” Itaru: “Shh” Citron: “Oooh”

Friends to Lovers Tournament: Round 2, Side A, Match 4
Tumblr media Tumblr media
propaganda under the cut!
It’s at this point that Guy truly lets himself become part of the Winter troupe/Fuyupoly and not just as a temporary stand-in member, because he’s found a place where he’s found himself again and people who will accept who this “himself” is, whether that be an android devoid of emotions or a human brimming with vivid beautiful emotions.[Mod note: There’s a LOT more but we’re afraid of crashing the post. I (Deli) summarised it the best I can since I’m familiar with A3, but if you want to read the full thing you can check it out on this google doc)
Sourin:
okay so i have a picture to crack explain the sourin supremacy
Tumblr media
but i also have legitimate reasons lmao
1. sousuke and rin both GET what it's like to want something so bad but not be able to achieve it. they know each other's pain so well, and they know just how much effort the other person puts into swimming. AND THAT MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING STRENGTHENS THEIR BOND SO MUCH!!! this is also the reason why they are each others' comfort person because the other just GETS it, no need for any explanations
2. they're passionate as fuck about the same thing (swimming) and they help each other train harder and swim better,,, like get you a couple with the same obsessions as you!!!
3. THEY SWAM A RELAY TOGETHER and that means a lot in swimming because IT'S BASICALLY SMTH A TEAM DOES WHEN THEY HAVE ABSOLUTE TRUST IN EACH OTHER AND THEY DEPEND ON EACH OTHER AND THEY LOVE EACH OTHER AND IT'S BASICALLY THE SWIMMING ANIME EQUIVALENT OF I LOVE YOU
4. when sousuke told rin about the shoulder injury he was literally so devastated because his love couldn't follow his passions anymore,, AND WHEN SOUSUKE RECOVERED FROM THE SURGERY RIN LEGIT CRIED HAPPY TEARS!!! and sousuke was always there for rin w/e he had a slump bc he compared himself too much to haru and others,,, like gods they care so much for each other
5. sousuke is the earth and rin is the fire,,, AND RIN LIGHTS A FIRE IN SOUSUKE WHILE SOUSUKE GROUNDS RIN LIKE PLEASE THE MOTIFS ARE LITERALLY RIGHT THERE EVEN IN THEIR COLOUR SCHEMES (teal + maroon)
in short: sourin supremacy because these two bois are so perfect for each other"

Hello friends and tumblr critters
It has been less than half a year wowie. Happy new year. I will soon be sharing more subs (but nothing that anyone has been waiting for I feel)... I'll be bringing you nostalgia with the first Yowapeda play from 2012 and next I'll be sharing the Ochanomizu Rock live stage. After that i'm not sure! Should I continue working on the old yowapedals? Should I try my hand at Noragami now that it is sufficiently old and nobody cares? Should I... god forbid... sub Mankai Stage????
I could also do Blue Period but...... that's a tough one. And it's a bluray and idk how to rip those.

Mini-Review: A3!
Mankai Company is a far cry from its glory days as an all-male theater. With only one member left and debt collectors at the door, a young woman finds herself in over her head when she boldly confronts the Yakuza’s loan sharks, promising to bring her father’s theater back into the spotlight. She might be able to recruit enough talent, but can they bloom into the actors she needs?
Right, so, unlike Touken Ranbu, which I watched because it sounded fun and didn’t learn until later that it’s based on a mobile game, I’ve been playing the A3! (”Act! Addict! Actors!”) mobile game, and knew what to expect going in. And unlike Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru, whose anime seems to be a thing all its own (more separated from the fighting/training focus of the game), A3! just transposed its built-in storyline to animated form.
Tumblr media
Which is, honestly, a good idea! The existing, base story is perfect for a series: Trying to locate her missing father, Izumi Tachibana ends up at the theater company he used to direct, just in time to try and stop it from being knocked down by yakuza coming to collect on debt. She makes a deal: they’ll put off claiming its large debt for now if she can gather enough members to form a troupe and put on a successful play. The problem: the theater currently has 1 member, with no prior experience. So she’s got to find 4 other guys, a script, and get them to put on a well-acted, sold-out performance in the span of 3 months.
When that’s successful, she goes on to put together the theater’s other seasonally-named sub-troupes in sequence, aiming to get the company back to its former glory and make enough money to pay off its debt and ensure its continued existence. And the anime makes this easy: both 12-episode seasons are split into two 6-episode arcs that follow each troupe from formation to closing night.
Tumblr media
And through it all, members learn to work with others/open up/express feelings/all that good stuff, because of course they do.
The fun of A3--both games and anime--are the characters. The game has no romance function, rather its focus is training the actors and putting on shows, and the in-story struggles are usually because Character A and Character B keep butting heads, or Character T and Character Z had a falling-out years ago, or Character S just wants to fight.
The story doesn’t change from game to anime, and actually some things get cut, but animation does let it expand on other things, particularly what the stage plays actually look like.
Tumblr media
I really enjoyed it, because they are all dorks, but they are all dorks I’ve been playing for 4 months and I know what their deal is. They’re all designed to be likable! I like seeing Yuki and Tenma snark at each other all. the. time. I like sweet Misumi and his mysterious obsession with all things triangle. I like Citron’s cheerful language mistakes, and Homare’s bizarrely ethereal poetry recitations.
There are 20 actors in the main story (4 troupes x 5 actors each), so while it’s a lot of characters overall, the story focuses mainly on 5 at a time, so you don’t feel lost in a sea of people.
Tumblr media
Verdict
English Dub? As of this writing, only the first 3 episodes were dubbed before the pandemic interrupted, and it doesn’t look like finishing it is a priority. The dub that exists is decent, though, and I particularly like Monica Rial as Izumi--I think she added a layer of humor that I don’t get from the original voices.
Visuals: Mediocre. I mean, the hair is nice and shiny, but the first season in particular often has faces that are slightly off, and characters stand straight or are seen in profile often, not moving much in group scenes. Camera shots aren’t creative.
It did improve in the second season, which got a new character designer, new art director, and new show director. But even so, A3! was cheated.
Worth Watching? Listen. I am an active player of the A3! mobile game, and each troupe’s anime arc mirrors their storyline from the game. So for me, this was really fun, a chance to see characters actually moving around, to see visual gags, a different way to watch a story I’ve seen play out on my phone. And sure, there’s a chance you’ll like it without that background.
But would I recommend it if you’re not playing the game? No. The story is better, the characters given more depth, in the mobile game. (The theme song is very fun, though, as are the openings--which change every 6 episodes to focus on the troupe that’s getting the spotlight.)
Where to watch (USA, as of April 2021): Funimation (sub and what exists of the dub); Hulu (sub)

Finally emptied my askbox!
Well, to be more accurate, I finished all my requests. The askbox ate the original ask, so shoutout to the anon who wanted Hisoka angst!
“I don’t know if I can trust you.”
Hisoka x Reader
It was insidious.
At first your curiosity was small. Harmless. When you heard the up-and-coming Mankai Company was having an act-off against the famed God Troupe, you knew that you had to catch both their performances. God Troupe’s performance was flashy and impactful as always, and while the leads of Mankai had a subtle flair of their own, it was one of their supporting cast members that truly caught your eye. You were captivated by his unique stage presence. He appeared confident and secure in his acting but underneath it all you could sense a hint of sadness that drew you in further.
To your shock and utter delight, he plays one of the leads in his sub-troupe’s next play.
“Hisoka…” you whisper to yourself as you trace the actor’s name on the flyer you received.
His gaze pierced straight through your heart, leading you to make an impulsive decision. Quickly scrounging up what leftover funds you had for the month, you resolve to attend all of their performances.
Watching Hisoka act night after night onstage makes your heart bleed for this man that you hadn’t even officially met. Again, you resonate with the melancholic aura that he gives off. It’s silly, really – the most interaction you’ve had with him was at the end of each play when the actors went to the lobby to personally thank and see their patrons off, yet there was just something so hauntingly beautiful about the man, and before you knew it you were drawn in deep.
You wanted to know more.
Days pass after the play’s closing night and you feel as if you’re in a drought – deprived of your favorite muse.
‘Maybe it’s for the best. Maybe I should just keep this admiration as a fan, after all.’
Trying to lift up your spirits, you visit a newly opened cat café. As you walk through the doors, a paw-shaped bell gently chimes and a smile blooms on your face. Immediately, you are comforted by the mellow atmosphere that the establishment exudes. While you take your time to observe the café, a white Japanese bobtail cat walks up to you and gently nuzzles your leg, trying to grab your attention. You slowly squat down to pet the feline and it purrs at your touch.
“Welcome.” a familiar voice greets you sleepily.
Looking up, you yelp in surprise and fall onto your bum at the realization that the worker in front of you is Hisoka. Unperturbed, the fluffy cat you were petting moves over to plop down into your lap.
“Marshmallow.” Hisoka chides lightly, picking up the fur ball and cradling it in his arms. “You’re not supposed to play with the customers until they’ve gotten a table.”
The cat mewls lowly in response, and your heartbeat quickens at the affectionate smile that spreads on Hisoka’s face.
“I’m surprised that Marshmallow has taken a liking to you so easily.” He mumbles, shooting you a curious glance. “Anyway, please follow me to sign a waiver for playing with the cats.”
You quickly read through the document and sign the paper without fuss. Hisoka looks over it and nods before leading you to a table low enough for you to interact with the cats but still kneel comfortably.
Somehow, amidst your internal freak-out, you manage to address Hisoka, “Do you have any recommendations?”
His eyes immediately light up and you find his giddiness to be infectious as he lists several suggestions. “The hot chocolate with marshmallow crème is good. So is the s’mores cupcake – they put a giant toasted marshmallow on top. Oh, but the chocolate marshmallow mousse is also one of our best-sellers…”
You stifle a laugh and scratch the ears of the fluffy white cat in your lap. “I take it that you’re the one that named Marshmallow, then?”
“Oh, I’m sorry, did I get carried away again? The manager says I need to work on that. Something about how not all people would want to eat marshmallows when they’re here, which is ridiculous.” Hisoka mutters the last sentence under his breath, but you still manage to catch what he says and find it quite endearing paired with the pout on his face.
“It’s fine. Those all sound amazing, and I’m going to be here awhile, so I’ll have those three that you mentioned.” You say with what you hope is a reassuring smile.
“Okay. I’ll be back with your marshmallows soon.” He quirks a shy smile before heading back to the kitchen with your order.
Once he’s out of sight you let out a huge sigh, grabbing at your chest, willing your heartbeat to slow down. As if sensing your distress, Marshmallow meows loudly and rubs his head against your hand.
“Alright, alright.” You murmur in a placating tone and obligingly scratch behind Marshmallow’s ears. He makes a satisfied chirping noise in response. Minutes pass by as you absentmindedly pet the cat while you take in the café’s ambience.
Hisoka returns with a serving tray full of marshmallow treats as promised, and your mouth waters as he sets them on the table. You turn your gaze away from the table to thank Hisoka but find that he is also transfixed on your food. A pout appears on his face and the gaze in his eyes as he regards the marshmallows is almost longing.
Mustering up your courage, you ask, “Um… would you like to join me? I kinda just realized that this is way too much for me to finish by myself…”
Hisoka’s gaze locks onto yours, his expression the liveliest you’ve ever seen off stage. “You sure?”
Brain short-circuiting over how adorable he looks, you only barely manage to nod back.
“Hold on.” Hisoka says, rushing off to the kitchen with an unnatural speed. Before you can really process the interaction, he’s already back at your table and kneeling opposite from you. “My manager said I can take a break for a short while since there’s not too many customers right now. Thanks for sharing your marshmallows…” he trails off. Realizing you forgot to introduce yourself, you immediately do so.
He softly smiles in return. “My name is Hisoka Mikage.”
“Ah, I have to confess that I already knew that.” You laugh nervously. His eyes narrow at you in suspicion, and you honestly don’t blame him. However, the dangerous aura he suddenly exudes has you recoiling a bit. “I, uh… I’ve seen you act before in the Mankai Company.”
His demeanor relaxes ever so slightly at your explanation, but you can tell he’s still on edge.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable. It’s just that I’m a big fan of your acting and I can’t really believe that I’m seeing you outside of your show runs.”
Still, Hisoka remains silent, staring at you coolly from across the table. Wordlessly, you slide over the chocolate marshmallow mousse to his side as a sort of placating gesture. Hisoka’s eyes narrow even further, squinting at the dessert as if it had personally offended him.
“Is this a bribe?
“…Is it working?”
Hisoka puts a spoonful of the mousse into his mouth and hums thoughtfully as he takes his time to savor the flavor. Seconds pass agonizingly slow before he simply nods at you.
“Apology accepted.”
You feel as if a huge weight is lifted off of your shoulders.
From that day forward you get to know more about Hisoka Mikage, rather than Hisoka the Winter Troupe member of Mankai Company who you so ardently idolized.
And so what if you still idolized him for that? It’s not like it took away from the real affection you had for him as a friend.
‘Only as a friend.’ You think to yourself glumly.
You were thankful for his friendship, really. After that day you two officially met, you frequented the café quite often. In return, Hisoka would set aside his break time for whenever you stopped by. Your relationship had gotten close enough that he felt comfortable resting his head in your lap. You always teased him for this, calling him a “cuddle monster that can only be satiated by naps and marshmallows”. Hisoka has no qualms with this and completely accepts his role.
However, despite the progress you’ve made, you could sense that there’s a barrier he always had up. You could tell that he was trying but there were times that Hisoka would get a faraway look in his eyes as the two of you lazed about. It was during these moments that you felt so close but still so far from him.
One day, he decides that the two of you should hang out at a beach – which is frankly quite ridiculous given the season. Within the first few minutes of arriving, Hisoka remains silent, so you decide to tell him as such.
“So… what’s the reason for taking to me to the beach on this cold winter day?” you joke, trying to lighten the heavy aura Hisoka exudes.
His eyes suddenly snap over to yours as if broken out of a reverie. Just as you’re about to let it be – Hisoka gets into these moods at times, after all – he replies.
“This beach is a place I’ve only shared with my troupe members; it’s a significant place to who I was – to who I am. You’ve become an…” he pauses, mulling over his words carefully. “…important person to me. I can’t explain it, but there’s something about you that makes me feel safe. But–“
Filled with a surge of affection at his words, you blurt out, “Would you like to maybe make this official?”
Hisoka stares at you incomprehensively.
‘Hell, I’ve gotten this far already.’ You think to yourself, thoroughly embarrassed, but determined. ‘I may as well let it all out.’
“I’m sorry if I’m coming on too strong, but this has been on my mind for a long while. Ever since we met at the café – maybe even long before that, when I first saw your acting,” You give him a watery smile. “I was so intrigued by you. I always felt like there was something that just drew me to you. You can’t believe how ecstatic I was that we were able to become friends. But lately, it just hasn’t been enough for me. I’m sorry. I’ve fallen for you.”
Your eyes squeeze shut, scared to see his reaction.
“I love you, Hisoka. If you’ll have me, I’d like the chance to make you happy as your friend, but even more so as your partner.”
Seconds tick by, your anxiety skyrocketing in the silence, when Hisoka’s words strike straight through your heart.
“I can’t.”
“…Oh.” Your voice cracks, tears welling up in your eyes at his rejection. “I see. I totally get it. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be obligated or anything because of my feelings. I’m sorry – “
“Wait.” Hisoka cuts you off then makes a frustrated noise. “It’s not you, I promise.” He grabs your arm causing you to freeze in place, preventing you from making your escape. “It’s not fair to you. I know it isn’t, but…”
“But?” you prompt.
“I don’t know if I can trust you.” Hisoka mumbles, head bowed low, unable to look you in the eye. “…and it kills me.”
He takes a deep breath before continuing.
“There are things that I’m still trying to figure out for myself – things I’m still trying to figure about myself. To drag you into it would be selfish of me. You don’t deserve that.”
“And if I said I didn’t care?” you sob. “What if I told you that I want to help you through it?”
Hisoka makes a pained expression at your words, letting go of your arm as if he was burned. He returns back to his shell that you so desperately tried to pull him out of. “I couldn’t ask you to do that. This is my burden to bear… I’m sorry.”
And just like that, he walks away.
The next day you go to the café where you first met. You pet Marshmallow when he comes over to you as you take a seat at your usual spot, but Hisoka never shows up.
