Y’know. This movie wasn’t bad. The plot was good, I liked the visuals, and the acting and action were great. I just couldn’t really feel connected to the characters. Especially Kate. I just couldn’t really feel sympathy for her, she was just some lady. I did like her, she definitely reminds me of Andromache from TOG, but I just didn’t know enough to care. Good movie, but I just can’t feel connected to the story.

i've never EVER seen anyone talk about this movie so i'm here to recommend Kate (2021) to any fans of badass women, incredible acting, awesome cinematography, and kicking parasitic western ideology in the balls, i can highly recommend Kate (2021)

one of the main cast, Miku Martineau, had her breakout role in this film and she did SUCH a great job i couldn't belive it was her first acting job

apparently whiny male critics found it "derivative of other female assassin movies" like um how dare content be inspired by other content ig?? some CNN bitch said it "lacked mystery" it's an action movie. sorry it was a little predictable. i for one was very much caught up on Mary Elizabeth Winstead chewing up the scenery and also herself. like come on i DARE you to tell me what the themes and messages of the movie were. go on bitch do it. idk just seems like racism to me tbh

anyways yeah highly enjoyed it and if anyone else has seen it/ends up watching it i'd love to hear your opinions!!

I have found it to be a treat of a series to take turns reading aloud together. While there aren’t elements that I’d worry about scaring a kid, as a parent I’d be more concerned that they were missing out on enough on the puzzle elements of the book as to keep them from really fully enjoying the story. The Mysterious Benedict Society books are appropriate for ages 9+ and up – though a canny 9, if that makes sense. What age level is appropriate for The Mysterious Benedict Society? You can absolutely say you’ve read them all if you’ve read the initial four books and the prequel – it’s okay to skip the games book in my estimation. Benedict’s Book of Perplexing Puzzles, Elusive Enigmas, and Curious Conundrums and finally a prequel to the entire to-do which centers on the life of Nicholas Benedict himself called The Extraordinary Education of Nicholas Benedict. They are gamebooks for fans of the series called The Mysterious Benedict Society: Mr. It was a runaway success, and three sequels to the book followed between 20: The Mysterious Benedict Society and The Perilous Journey, The Mysterious Benedict Society and The Prisoner’s Dilemma, and The Mysterious Benedict Society and The Riddle of Ages.So, that makes for a series of 4 books, yes? Mary Elizabeth Winstead brings a kind of confidence and screen presence that I don’t recall seeing since Sigourney Weaver, and it’s wonderful to watch. The action is easily the highlight of the film. It just frees you up to enjoy the high-speed action choreography.

But since we all know the protagonist is going to be dead by the end of the movie anyway, that doesn’t matter as much as usual. It makes it nearly impossible to maintain any kind of tension. There’s also the unfortunate fact that I could predict the “twist” ending about 7 minutes into the film – never a good sign. If you’re a stickler for dialogue, this has some truly lazy lines, and Ani can be more than a little irritating. That’s not to say Kate is perfect, of course. If I’m here for big dumb action fun, directors really don’t need to spend all that much time explaining character backstories to me. This is one of those fun action flicks that focuses so little on the trees, you don’t have a choice but to enjoy the forest. The clock is ticking…Īs a certifiable film snob, I do sometimes get caught up in the minutiae of a film – an inability to see the forest for the trees. And the only person who might know is Ani (Miku Martineau), the daughter of her last target. With only 24 hours left to live, Kate plots her revenge, but there’s one little problem: She still doesn’t know who’s responsible. In retaliation, she’s poisoned with a rare isotope of polonium. Under orders from her trainer, Varrick (Woody Harrelson), Kate takes out a leading figure in one of the more notorious Japanese gangs. Now working in Japan, she’s become involved with the Yakuza (Japanese organized crime). Kate (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has been trained since childhood to be one of the most effective and dangerous assassins in the world.
