mr miyagi had a wife and a son (rip) and maybe even a couple more relationships (who the hell knows), but even so he ultimately still felt something for his first love yukie, like when we went back to okinawa, even after all those years the feelings were still there.

Daniel has had several girlfriends, eventually gets married and has two kids, and yet, even thirty years later-

Daniel's eyes widened. “It cursed or something? Why do you keep it?”

Mr. Miyagi nodded to himself, said, “Looks nice.”

“Mr. Miyagi!” Daniel shouted, panicked, as his sensei removed the lid. “Ain't that the sacred pot you just told me not to touch?”

“Hai,” came the reply, gentle and unbothered. Out of the depths he pulled a chocolate chip cookie. “Bad luck if Daniel-san stick hand in cookie jar and eat all Mr. Miyagi's cookies.”

Characters: Daniel LaRusso, Johnny Lawrence, Mr. Miyagi

Pairing: first shades of teen!LawRusso 

Six weeks after the tournament, Johnny shows up to train with Mr. Miyagi.

It starts about as well as Daniel anticipated. 

Johnny’s vitriolic, striking first branded into him. He’s impressive, if not infuriating.

His knee is barely healed; Johnny’s bruises barely faded. 

One week in, Miyagi puts them on the wheel. They spend three days more wet than dry. Day four, Daniel’s exhausted, hurting. Just when he thinks he can’t climb back up one more time, Johnny’s lightning reflexes catch him. Daniel stills, trusting. 

They stand and breathe together, holding onto one another, perfectly balanced for the very first time.

Daniel startles, lifting his gaze from the glistening pond and pristine garden to look at Johnny. “You came back?”

“Forgot my phone.” Johnny shrugs. He gestures to where Daniel sits. “Want some company?”

Daniel nods. Despite the dojo’s stillness, his heart is heavy with melancholy, the grief hitting harder than usual. Johnny’s presence soothes the ache.

“Thanks,” he says quietly. He bites his lip. “I know it’s weird, but sometimes if I sit here in the quiet like this, I feel…closer. I feel like I can hear him.”

To his surprise, Johnny pales. “You hear it too?”

You know... When my father died, I spent a lot of time thinking maybe I wasn’t such a great son. It seemed to me like I could have listened to him a little more, spent some more time with him... I felt so guilty, you know, like he did everything for me, and I didn’t do anything for him. Then one day it occurred to me... that I did the greatest thing of all for him just before he died: I was there with him, and I held his hand, and I said goodbye.

I watched The Karate Kid Part II for the first time a few weeks ago and I really liked it? Confirmed one thing though, Mr Miyagi crying is illegal ;___; I really loved that little scene. It was understated and heartbreaking and warm and a perfect character moment for both of these guys.

All my found family feels 💜
