SOLID BERJANGKA BALI – Harga minyak menetap sedikit lebih tinggi pada akhir perdagangan Kamis (11/11) atau Jumat (12/11) pagi WIB. Kenaikan harga minyak ini terjadi saat pasar bergulat dengan dolar AS yang lebih kuat bersama kekhawatiran atas peningkatan inflasi AS, dan setelah OPEC memangkas perkiraan permintaan minyak 2021 karena harga yang tinggi.

Minyak mentah berjangka Brent untuk pengiriman Januari naik 23 sen atau 0,28 persen, menjadi ditutup pada 82,87 dolar AS per barel. Brent anjlok 2,5 persen di sesi sebelumnya setelah mencapai level tertinggi tiga tahun di atas 86 dolar AS bulan lalu.

Minyak mentah berjangka West Texas Intermediate (WTI) AS untuk pengiriman Desember bertambah 25 sen atau 0,3 persen, menjadi menetap di 81,59 dolar AS per barel. Pada Rabu (10/11), WTI kehilangan 3,3 persen dalam penurunan terbesar dalam seminggu.

Kompleks energi diperdagangkan lebih tinggi menjelang akhir sesi karena keyakinan bahwa permintaan pascapandemi akan semakin menguat dalam beberapa bulan mendatang.”Harga tertinggi baru terbentang di depan karena unsur-unsur yang dibutuhkan untuk menempatkan posisi teratas di pasar ini tetap sulit dipahami, yaitu permintaan minyak global melebihi produksi baru,” kata Jim Ritterbusch, presiden Ritterbusch and Associates LLC di Galena, Illinois.

Kartel mengatakan dalam laporan bulanan, mereka memperkirakan permintaan minyak rata-rata 99,49 juta barel per hari (bph) pada kuartal keempat 2021, turun 330.000 barel per hari dari perkiraan bulan lalu.

“Perlambatan dalam laju pemulihan pada kuartal keempat 2021 sekarang diasumsikan karena kenaikan harga energi,” kata OPEC dalam laporan itu, juga mengutip permintaan yang lambat di China dan India.

Pada Rabu (10/11), data AS menunjukkan inflasi harga konsumen naik pada Oktober dengan tingkat tahunan sebesar 6,2 persen, tercepat dalam 30 tahun, sebagian besar didorong oleh harga energi yang terlalu mahal. Ekspektasi bahwa data akan mendorong kenaikan suku bunga AS mengangkat dolar lebih tinggi dan mengirim minyak mentah Brent dan WTI masing-masing turun 2,5 persen dan 3,3 persen.

Pada Kamis (11/11), dolar naik ke level tertinggi hampir 16 bulan terhadap euro dan mata uang lainnya karena spekulasi pada kenaikan suku bunga. OPEC melihat konsumsi dunia melampaui angka 100 juta barel per hari pada kuartal ketiga 2022, tiga bulan lebih lambat dari perkiraan bulan lalu.

Kelompok produsen telah mengutip jalur permintaan yang tidak pasti sebagai alasan utama mengapa tidak akan meningkatkan pasokan untuk memenuhi permintaan lebih banyak minyak mentah dari Amerika Serikat. "The latest gains for oil prices have come as part of a broader rally in energy markets, with depleted natural gas inventories and resurgent economic activity sparking fierce competition in Europe and Asia for natural gas to feed their power markets.

Oil’s move is really to do with the global energy crunch coming out of the gas power market,” said Norbert Rücker, head of economics at Swiss private bank Julius Baer. “This is now spilling over into the oil market because of the expectation that this energy scarcity means we’re going to use oil for spillover demand.” In some power plants, oil can be used to generate electricity when gas prices surge.

A global natural-gas production deficit, depleted inventories and a push from the Chinese government to slash emissions—switching out coal for gas—have all played a role in pushing gas prices higher. That comes as the Northern Hemisphere heads into the winter indoor heating months."

Oil prices rose to their highest levels in over a year on Monday, as output cuts and US stimulus hopes drive crude higher.

Oil prices rose on Monday to their highest in just over a year, with Brent nudging past $60 a barrel, boosted by supply cuts among key producers and hopes for further economic stimulus measures in the United States that can boost demand.

Global benchmark Brent crude was up 68 cents, or 1.2 percent, at $60.02 a barrel by 14:42 GMT, while US benchmark West Texas Intermediate rose 68 cents, or 1.2 percent, to $57.53 a barrel.

“Managing to breach $60 again feels like the market is finally resurfacing after the long struggle and [taking] a proper breath,” said Rystad Energy’s vice president for oil markets Paola Rodriguez-Masiu. “It offers a feeling of normality again.”

Both contracts were at their highest levels since January 2020.

“Oil prices are back close to pre-pandemic levels,” said Norbert Rucker, analyst at Swiss bank Julius Baer.

The US oil rig count, an early indicator of future output, rose last week to its highest since May, according to energy services firm Baker Hughes Co [File: Angus Mordant/Reuters]“Support seems robust and the narrative sees the oil market swiftly burning through the remaining crisis surplus, potentially running into tightness later this year,” he added.

The oil market continues to tighten, with Saudi Arabia pledging extra supply cuts in February and March following reductions by other members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies.

In a sign that prompt supplies are tightening, the six-month Brent spread hit a high of $2.54 on Monday, its widest since January last year.

OCBC economist Howie Lee said the world’s top exporter, Saudi Arabia, sent a “very bullish signal” last week when it kept monthly crude prices to Asia unchanged despite expectations for small cuts.

“I don’t think anybody dares to short the market when Saudi is like this,” he added.

A weaker dollar against most currencies on Monday also supported commodities, with dollar-denominated assets becoming more affordable to holders of other currencies.

Investors are also keeping a close watch on a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 aid package for the US that is expected to be passed by lawmakers as soon as this month.

And hopes that Iranian oil exports would soon return to the market have been dampened, further supporting oil prices.

President Joe Biden said the US would not lift sanctions on Iran simply to get it back to the negotiating table, while Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said all sanctions should be lifted first.

Stronger crude prices are meanwhile encouraging US producers to increase output.
