JENNETTE'S ROOM
Tumblr media
I haven't seen any compilation of Jennette's room in the manhwa so I'm going to do it with the few panels we have.
So, everyone would think that the color of Jennette's room should be blue or Athy's room should be pink since those are her "main" colors but in the manhwa it is the opposite, Athy's room is blue and Jetty's is pink.
Tumblr media
First let's look at this image. To our left is a fireplace with nothing more than two candelabras and a random painting. Through Jennette we see a large white door. And to our right is Jennette's bed, at the foot of the bed is her dresser and a pink chair.
Now let's focus on our right.
In the first image you can't see it but in the next one we can see that next to the door there is a piece of furniture with many dolls and stuffed animals on it.
Tumblr media
15 toys in total, 7 dolls and 8 stuffed animals. Do you notice that the dolls are almost always in pairs? Always two girls together?? I wonder if that was a way of projecting her desire to form a relationship with Athanasia, whom she believed to be her sister.
(I honestly don't think Spoon did it on purpose, but whatever, let's imagine)
Tumblr media
Now right in front of the furniture with the stuffed animals we have Jennette's bed! which is also pink. Look to the right of Jennette's bed there is another pink chair just like the one on her nightstand.
Tumblr media
Here we don't have the rug :( but at least we can see the chairs that are also pink (lmao) and a fairly simple circular table that has the same design as the furniture with the dolls.
Just above the girls is a chandelier.
In front of the bed but a little further to the left are the table and chairs where Jennette has tea with Athy! look at the following image.
And look to the right, behind Athanasia you can see a part of Jennette's shelf.
Let's have a more close look to the bed now!
Tumblr media
Well look at the bed, it has curtains on the sides but all wmmap beds have them although these, unlike the others, are not tied. I wondered if that's because Jennette tends to close the curtains for more privacy?? We can also see on the right more of her miraculously not pink shelf with books. Also...isn't that the table where Jennette has tea with Athy? It seems that she changed it's position.
Let's take a closer look at her nightstand.
Tumblr media
Well there is nothing different that no nightstand has from the other manhwas. Lots of pretty jars and boxes and in other pictures we saw that it had a candle holder too. But I find this silver tray with the hairbrush and a mirror adorable, it's so cute. Also, it's the only mirror in Jennette's entire room, right?
Tumblr media
In here there are many jewels and some ribbon but nothing more special. The second comb is fun for me :D
Let's leave Jennette's nightstand and see what was to the right of her room.
Tumblr media
Finally! the shelf full and with many books. I wonder what kind of things Jennette reads? Will they all be princess books? I guess so but I like to imagine that it has a greater variety of books (how to make dolls, flowers, cake shop, etc)
Can you see there is a white cup there? Well, it's on the shelf and it's not floating, it's on the same table where Jennette had tea with Athy and the parts of brown furniture that can be seen on the sides are the chairs that the girls sit on.
Below the window where Athy is entering there is an couch! And on the other side of the couch you can see some legs of a brown piece of furniture.
Tumblr media
Here we have a better view of the couch! and also the rug that we had lost in the other images.
and the brown furniture next to the couch has absolutely nothing on it (lol)
Some comments: We never saw much of the wall on the side of the fireplace, the whole wall in front of Jennette's bed because there is still a part of Jennette's room that we don't know. The truth is that Jennette's room doesn't have many things besides her dolls, there can be thousands of theories why, maybe Jennette just doesn't like having a lot of things, maybe she never allowed herself to have a lot of things because she didn't want to be a nuisance or never filled her room with the things she liked because she didn't consider it her home, or maybe spoon just didn't decorate her room much idk.
Also Jennette needs a mirror, otherwise how the hell do the maids dress her? But I kind of like the fact that Jennette doesn't like mirrors tbh.

It was a good day. I am excited for tomorrow. But today was a pretty good day.
I slept alright last night. I didn't toss and turn as much. Apparently when James left I told them I loved them so much and gave them a hug but I have absolutely no memory of this. I was asleep asleep. I woke up about a half hour later and was in a good mood.
I made the bed and got dressed. My hair was very dry today. And I would decide it should be dyed again. So that's how I ended the day. But I knew today was just going to be a cleaning day so I wasn't to concerned with how I looked.
I made a little sandwich and grabbed my things and headed to the museum.
It was a fun day. I would chat with my coworkers. But pretty quickly we would all get to work on our projects. I jumped right into tag making because it would literally take the next 3 and a half hours to complete.
I had my audio book and it's a really good book but man is it sad. Jennette McCurdy really performs the book and it's just. Gutting at times. I still have a little less then half of the book left. But I am glad I got to spend so much time listening to it while I worked today.
I would chat with Jessica and Becca and Kristen throughout different points of the morning. But mostly I was just assembling.
First I glued all the sides of the name tags together. Then trimmed them all. And when I say all there are 80 of them. So this was all a long process.
I would cut the strings for all of them so the kids can wear them. Then I went to use the laminator and laminated all of the tags. This went okay. I struggled with how big the laminated sheet was. But Jessica helped me move the table away from the wall so the sheet could fall to the floor.
It would take a while to cut everything out. I had some trouble with the scissors and had to go search for another pair. Becca would come and join me in cutting things out. And once we were done that we went down to the lunch room to use the grommet machine for the next step of the tag making.
I had mostly good luck with this machine. I sat on the ground and just knocked them out. Two on every card. 160 grommets. My arms were really tired and it took over an hour but I did it!
And I was ready to go. I swept up all the paper on the ground from doing the grommets. And then said goodbye to everyone.
I stopped in to say hi to James. Gave them a box of my art I found I in the back. And then headed out.
I went to Target and Harris teeter to get fancy flower for James and a few other things. I got two more molecars. And they are so cute. Though we did get a cop.
I went to five guys to have a late lunch. Which is where I discovered that the queen died. I discovered this because of the crab dance gif. Which is the funniest way I could find out.
My parents were not thrilled with me making jokes. But like. I get it. She was a person. With a family. I'm sure on a personal level she was lovely. But I have a lot of feelings about what she did and did not do as a monarch. And that she continued the monarchy at all. It's gross to me. The ostentatious nature of wealth and just the nature of royals? Gross. How many countries the UK colonized since she was made queen? Dozens. So if I want to make fun, I will.
Thankfully Jess and James were on bored with the jokes and had even more for me. So we had a lot of fun for a bit there just being ghouls.
I came home, taking the long way. I like driving past Patterson park. And when I got home I got to work putting things away. I double checked my bags for this weekend. And painted my nails. I was feeling pretty good.
Mr Will came over and continued to mess with the kitchen. I told him how poorly the caulk did. And he was like ah yeah that's bad. Then did basically did the same this on the other side. Didn't even lift the counter to put it back because 'itll just fall down again'. I told him it's going to break again. And he said he'll remove all the counters and redo them if that happens. It will happen so I don't know why we are doing this first but whatever.
James got home a little after that. We had some packages. I got a new vintage western style shirt I'm going to wear tomorrow. James got a mic for their podcast. We would spend the evening packing and making sure we have everything we need for our trip. I'm excited.
I spent some time making a hair bow to wear this weekend that had a bridal style. I meant to buy something but never got around to it. I sewed little heart bows on the fabric and I think it's so cute. The first clip I used though broke and got stuck in my hair and I was very upset. James had to stop cooking the food they were making for this weekend, to save me. My hero. But I am very happy with the fixed bow and am excited to wear it.
I dyed my hair like I said I was going to. I mixed the brown glaze with green and blue to get a nice muted denim navy color. I hope it shows well in the light. And while it set in my hair I did my eyebrows for the first time in forever. And once I was done that I thought it would be fun to play with my makeup ideas for the wedding. Dramatic. And then I kept playing and drawing on my face to wind Jess up talking about how subtle it is. Was just being really silly.
I washed my hair. Got the water as clear as I could. And once my hair was conditioned I took a long bath.
I kept saying I was taking an 'everything bath'. I dyed my hair, washed my hair, did my eyebrows, did a face mask, exfoliated, shaved, just did everything. Then all the lotions and oils. Just really doing the most.
And I felt really nice after. I came to bed and me and James have been cuddling here since. I am in a good mood.
And tomorrow is our Bach weekend! Our mixed bachelorette and bachelor trip to the Poconos. It's a good little group of us, not our entire wedding party, but some and some other friends of James's. I'm excited to go on a long drive and I'm excited to go to see some nature. And it's going to be such a nice weekend. I'm sure of it.
I am going to get ready to sleep now. I hope you all have a great night. Take care of each other. Keep sending good vibes to my parents, they need the love. Goodnight!

✨ 2022 Faves ✨
tagged by @sanchoyo !! thank ya, i haven't done of these lil tumblr tag posts in a while, i always have fun with em! 🥳
Favorite books: "I'm Glad My Mom Died" by Jennette McCurdy for sure was my absolute fav, i am lucky enough to have a first edition signed copy of the hardcover version since the pre-orders for it were surprisingly affordable on the official site a while back, so it's also just a very special book to me in general too 🥺 i really liked her writing style, iirc it was adapted from a one-person theater show Jennette was performing a few years back and that probably has something to do with the non-conventional way of writing a memoir, but it was so much more accessible for me to read with my adhd and i loved how she blended bits of her own inner monologue throughout her life as a sort of dark comedy with a genuinely haunting and very sad series of events. a super intense read but if you're able to read it i can't reccommend it enough, it's really good
Favorite movies: oh god i watch too many movies to ever properly answer this question LOL ok. this will probably be a way too long list prepare thyself (im just gonna list faves that were released this year since the questions are 2022 related, also not in any particular order); Glass Onion, Everything Everywhere All At Once, X, Pearl, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, Turning Red
Favorite songs: OH GOD. HDSHGDSHSJB ok. also going to stick to things released this year otherwise this list would never ever end LOL; Hayloft II by Mother Mother, the entirety of Laurel Hell by Mitski, the entirety of And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow by Weyes Blood, This Is Why & The News by Paramore, Glyceride by Soyboy, This Is A Life (from Everything Everywhere All At Once) by Son Lux, Mitski & David Byrne, YES MOM by Tessa Violet, Blue Dusk by Sun's Signature, Lux Æterna by Metallica, dumb dumb by mazie, Ptolemaea by Ethel Cain, Vampire Reference in a Minor Key by Will Wood, Time Machine by Daisy the Great, Piggy by St. Vincent, FYB by Poppy, Pink Panther, Pink Rover & The Rapture (but it's Pink) by Scene Queen, girlfriend by hemlocke springs, Thérèse by Maya Hawke
Favorite Shows: i think all i've watched that had new content in 2022 was Chucky LOL, many others i want to watch/catch up on soon though
Favorite Memories: The Whole Summer since i got 2 spend it with my bestie irl as my roommate (housemate??? is there a word for a roommate who stays in a different room....is that just roommate LMAO), but especially the night i recorded the first part of the 80's Devilman OVA onto a blank vhs tape while we watched it and i forgot to turn the internet off on my laptop and my house's crap internet disconnected multiple times during the ending credits sequence which made a big blank comcast pop-up window take over the whole screen and i tried to remedy it on the vhs tape by rewinding and recording over it but then it kept happening so i kept rewinding by a few seconds and re-recording and it resulted in the accidental creation of the funniest vhs tape in my collection so far (that whole paragraph is a video i took of how it looks on the tape and us seeing that absolute disaster for the first time after i was done recording and we popped it into the tv to see what a bad job i did)

Lady Of The House Pt. 2 (Henry x Reader)
Heyyyyyy, so I finally finished this part, please let me know if you want to see more of this. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
Part one
-
After the delicious breakfast Henry and (y/n) had he told her that they must attend a charity event that his brother was throwing. She always enjoyed those types of outings with him, she liked the attention and how Henry would proudly show her off and twirl her around the dancefloor, Henry always made her feel wanted and appreciated. However with that type of short notice, she was left running around her wardrobe room with Jennette and Angelina on her side, trying to pick an outfit, it wasn't like she didn't have any, but she always wanted to be perfect, the Cavill family had accepted her but not without difficulties, at the end of the day they all saw her as this little shiny toy Henry would dispose at some point.
"What about this? It still has the tag on it"
Angelina spoke lightly holding up the extravagant green gown Henry had bought her one day, she had mentioned her favorite designer so the next day Henry sent her 8 different gowns that he liked.
Angelina was new to the roaster, Jennette (y/n) quickly came to the realization that a few of the maids and butlers were giving out information about (y/n) to Henry's mom, she was a wonderful lady when (y/n) was around because she saw her as just a girlfriend and not the wife, so they swiftly got replaced. (Y/n) approached Angelina and let her fingers trace the fabric as she turned to look at Jennette.
"Isn't the slit a bit too much for a family event?"
"I think it's finally time for you to make this statement... miss Cavill"
(Y/n) giggled at the name, Jennette liked calling her that as a small joke and a reminder that she is now the lady of this house. (Y/n) was always a big personality but this life made her feel small and uncertain. She bit her lip before she started nodding to herself, Angelina smiled in triumph due to feeling accomplished with finding the dress for (y/n).
"Angelina help miss (y/n) put the dress on, I'll be downstairs if you need me"
"Yes miss jennette"
As (y/n) started to take off her robe to slip on the right dress, jennette walked out of the master bedroom and towards the entrance of the house, that's where Mister Henry was waiting for his lady. Jennette was curious about the reason he had asked to see her privately to talk about (y/n).
she wasn't worried about it though, Jennette had a good feeling about this since everyone could clearly see how madly in love he was with her, he had brought other women home in the past yet they were never introduced to the staff, they had remained anonymous visitors. She slowly walked down the marble stairs while Mister Henry was standing in front of a mirror, fixing his tie.
"You asked to see me sir?"
"Yes Jennette"
His tone of voice was light as a feather, kind and melodic as he finally rearranged himself and took his eyes off his reflection and turned to Jennette who was patiently waiting close to him.
"How's (y/n) been doing?"
"She is finally getting comfortable, Angelina has been helping with making her feel in charge"
Henry slowly nodded as a ghost of a smile on his lips. He remembered how scared she was in the beginning, how she would stutter while talking to the staff or some days she wouldn't even leave the bed until he came home. He could recognize how much she has flourished and rose to the occasion. He was so thankful when (y/n) started to smile while talking to him about Jennette, she needed an ally and now Angelina was another soldier
"I'm going to ask her to marry me"
Jennette gasped in a happy demeanor and started to clap fastly with her fingers while her palms remained together. Henry was aware how close the two of them had grown to become, Lady Jennette has been around his family since he was a young adult, when he first started getting involved in the "family business".
however all his brothers had kids and a wife, (y/n) was the only woman he could see a future with, just the thought of her with a big round belly made him feel all warm and fuzzy, he felt alive next to her and her presence never left his mind, he had a reason to keep living and working. As soon as he had laid eyes on her that night he stayed at the hotel she was working at he just had to have her, it was almost compelling
"Of course you can't tell her"
"I would never dream of such a thing sir"
Before Henry could speak he heard the door of his bedroom open, along with giggles that probably came from Angelina and (y/n). Both of them waited for her to turn the corner and appear.
(Y/n) felt his eyes on her as soon as she stepped at the top of the stairs. Jennette was smiling at the sight of her while Henry remained silent. Angelina helped her lift up her dress ever so slightly so she can take the steps down without a problem. You could hear her heels click on the well polished floor. Ever since she met him the look he gave her every time he saw her was addictive, she felt like the most beautiful woman in the world when he gave her this intense look that scanned her body.
"If the slit is too much I can go change"
"You look stunning my love"
He reassured her and walked to her. His hands immediately found hers and her raised one to his lips to place a gentle kiss on her knuckles while never breaking eye contact. She smiled back and instinctively she filled the space between them so she could hug him, his cologne made her feel safe knowing that he was there was the most comforting idea.
After a few moments she pulled away but their hands remained intertwined. Every single time they had to attend a family event he could sense her anxiety, at any other gala she was right at home but when it came to his family she looked like a kid going through school exams.
"Don't be nervous love"
"I'm not nervous"
She quickly shot back in defense. She could tell that he wasn't convinced, yet he chose to let it go, acknowledging the fact that pushing her more would only do more damage than good. Her hair was down and styled to perfection, her make up was done to bring out her beauty even more, she looked like a true goddess coming to bless the mortals.
"Don't wait for us jennette"
"Yes sir. Have a good night"
-
The car ride was spent by (y/n) looking out the window while her one hand traced her necklace and the other held Henry's, he chose to silently support her. He could comprehend how scary his family could be for an outsider, of course they were nice when she was around but (y/n) was no fool, she noticed the quick side eyes and the few whispers when she turned her back, she only bit her lip and smiled for Henry's sake, as well as the fact that if she wanted to be in this family she had to outsmart them, she was aware that they acted like that because she was the girlfriend, as soon as Henry would propose nobody would dare to say anything, she would officially be a Cavill. It was a shallow reason but she just wanted to be recognized for what she was, a woman that all she did was fall in love.
As the driver opened the door Henry got out first and then he helped (y/n) get out, before she got the chance he slightly kneeled in front of her to fix the end of her dress that touched the floor. His gentle grace of his fingers from her calf that went over her thigh brought goosebumps all over her body.
"I love this dress on you"
"I think you will have to wait until we get back home to show me how much you do"
Henry's reply was to lean down and press a kiss on her naked left shoulder before offering his arm for her to take as they walked in the Mansion as a couple.
(Y/n) felt the awfully familiar tightness in her chest as they entered, people were mingling, the smell of cigars lingered in the air as you could see the smoke in the air, even though the staff had done it's best to open windows and keep the air fresh.
"(Y/n)!"
She heard a woman call her name at a rather enthusiastic tone. As she turned she saw it was Henry's sister in law Chiara. She was dressed in a black dress that was a bit more modest than hers, yet it complimented her delicate figure in such a way that made her look like the glamorous Hollywood stars back in the day. The brunette woman opened her arms and offered (y/n) a warm hug. (Y/n) hugged back, feeling grateful that the host was one of the people in this family that she actually got along with. Chiara had married into the family years ago, she was rather tall and very intimidating, she vividly remembered the story of how Charlie traveled back and forth from the UK to Austria just to get a date with her.
"You look exquisite"
(Y/n) complimented her, Chiara smiled as she gave an up and down look with a smirk on her painted lips.
"Same goes for you dear, the hawk is going to have a heart attack… love it"
Chiara and (y/n) had bonded over how tightly Henry's mother held the strings, Chiara was the first to pull (y/n) aside and warn her that she is like that with anyone however she is all bark and no bite. Many nights have been spent over the phone with Chiara giving advice to (y/n). They were so different yet they found comfort in one another.
"How are you Chiara?"
Henry joined in, he didn't care that Chiara forgot to greet him, quite the opposite he was pleased (y/n) was getting the attention she deserved. Chiara looked at him and in the meantime Charlie started to approach her from behind, (y/n) had to admit that even though she met Chiara while she was married she still felt like Chiara was a single woman, Charlie traveled a lot which Chiara had stated multiple times that it was the reason she was still married to him, she needed her space and craved time alone. So as one can assume that she wasn't really eager to have a baby either.
"I'm well, I'm surprised you guys made it. I thought you had to be in Scotland"
"(Y/n) is not fond of Scotland"
He simply responded. To be fair she thought it was a beautiful country but it was springtime and she wanted to go somewhere with a bit more sun. A waitress approached the two couples and offered champagne, Henry reached for two glasses and offered (y/n) one, Chiara and Charlie were already holding a glass.
"Here you go love"
"Thank you"
"Cheers, to another successful season"
Henry raised his glass while the others followed. As they clinked their glasses and all the group took a sip, the taste of the bubbly drink soothed (y/n)'s nerves, her shoulders started to relax and the tightness on her chest was little to none.
"Where's mom and dad?"
"Oh last time I saw them they were talking to our brother"
"We should go say hello"
"Alright, it was nice seeing you"
(Y/n) said before Chiara leaned in a bit to whisper in her ear "you got this doll".
(Y/n) giggled at her and Chiara just stepped back and gave her a playful wink. Henry's hand found the small of her back before gently guiding her away from the couple, the last glimpse she got off the couple was Chiara turning to say something to her husband as she flipped her long wavy hair back.
(Y/n)'s heart stomped so loud she started feeling the pressure on her ears, out of instinct she clenched her jaw and tried to mask her nervousness. Henry spotted his parents and walked to them, knowing well that (y/n) is already done with the situation and depending on how this goes they might have to leave immediately.
"Henry and (y/n), is so good to see you"
Henry's father, Colin, was the first to greet them with a kind smile on his face. Colin had always been nothing but kind to (y/n), which was surprising to her since she had stereotypically thought that the father would be the hardest one to crack. Colin hugged his son and then proceeded to take (y/n)'s hand and give a kiss on her hand.
"It's good to see you young lady"
"Thank you"
"How are you dear?"
His mother Marianne said before going in for a very forced hug, yet she was grateful they still had a civil type of communication especially around others.
"I'm well, how are you?"
"You've lost weight, I was hoping you would have gained some, oh you would look so cute with a little baby bump"
(Y/n) let out a nervous giggle, not knowing how to answer. They weren't even married, let alone have a baby, she wanted to have kids but she was still young and wanted to enjoy having henry for herself a little longer.
Henry's hand went from the small of her waist to wrapping around her as a way to bring her closer to him. He had heard this over and over again, the only difference was that to him they questioned if she was worthy to bring an heir to the family.
"Not yet mother, I still enjoy seeing her in these tight clothes"
"Henry we are still your parents. He is right Marianne, let them have some fun"
"I'm sure (y/n) can have fun but Henry you are not getting any younger"
(Y/n) was at the edge of just disassociate as her gaze started to focus on a vase behind Marianne. In any other case if this woman was a random stranger she would have popped off and started to insult her. The squeeze she received from Henry's hand pulled her out of her trace. She bit her lip as she tried to find the right thing to say, she wanted kids but the subject of babies was something they hadn't even discussed other than the cheeky comments during sex. The squeeze she received from Henry's hand was enought to bring her out of her trance and now the tightness on her chest was replaced by a fire of anger.
"You know last time you questioned my credibility as a potential wife, so this new situation of wanting me to get pregnant is at least a step"
"Honey I don't know what you are talking about"
"You do, we all do"
She hit back before downing the rest of her drink. Henry smiled in triumph, he was taken back by her boldness on one hand, on the other she held her own and showed the spark he loved to see.
"I think it's time for us to leave. I love you both"
Henry hugged both of his parents and his dad gave (y/n) another kiss on the hand, when she turned to Marianne (y/n) smiled and took her in for a big hug, making Marianne let out a small "oh".
"Water under the bridge… dear"
(Y/n) said at a lower tone before she pulled away and took her spot again next to Henry.
"Have a good night"
Henry said before taking (y/n) away from them. Henry's hand slowly slid from her waist to her bum, he didn't do anything he just let it rest on it. (Y/n) was smart enough to understand that this small change of movement meant that not only was he not mad she responded, he was turned on by her.
"You never seize to amaze me love. I'll call the chauffeur but we got 15 minutes before he arrives"
"Plenty of time to see what decor they have in the bathroom"

i’m looking at that soulmate au 2 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨 ok but just imagineeee ijekiel feeling dread and anxiety and despair, he’s so short of breath but doesn’t know why. when he sees athy begging to her father. when she’s on her knees. he’s confused, he doesn’t know her that well, he wonders if it is empathy. he thinks, perhaps,it is jennette, because she was poisoned, right? the day of the pitiful princess’s execution, his anxiety increases. he thinks he can barely walk, but he goes to see her anyway. even though he’s realized he doesn’t feel romantic love for jennette, he thinks this anxiety is hers, from losing her own sister. as soon as athanasia’s body drops, he can’t breathe anymore. the execution was botched, and since her neck didn’t break immediately, she is strangled to death. ijekiel is on his knees now, he can feel the noose around his own neck, and they struggle and he gasps for air until she stops. after her passing, it’s as if ijekiel has become a different person. he’s numb; as if all of his brightness, and his calm, as if it all has been drained out from him. he looks at jennette once, and then twice again, and he is unable to comfort her.
hdhfjfkfckkc i’m so sorry 😭🥺 it’s just very good ugh my writing is kinda shit and too dramatic but i hope it’s not that bad :((((
Aaaahhh give me all your tragic athykiels!
After Athy's execution Ijekiel feels just dead inside. Like a walking corpse. None of the countless healers and mages that Roger summonded can find the source of his troubles. He's physically perfectly healthy they say. He eats, he sleeps, he answers politely when he is asked something, yet it is as if his mind wandered elsewhere. On late evenings when he’s finished with his duties, Roger is surprised not to find his son in company of Jennette, instead he prefers to remain in solitude, locks himself up in his room or visits the graveyard and lays flowers upon that woman’s grave. If he talks at all it’s to ask the maids questions about their previous mistress (what was she like? what bought her happiness? what did she like to eat/drink? how did she spend her leisure time?). Ijekiel’s wardrobe gets gradually replaced by plainer clothes in the colors of washed out blue, he starts to seek out Jennette again, and even eats the overly sweet chocolate cake Jennette bakes for him that he once used to dislike. Even though he can’t taste anything anymore it eases his pain, it feels as if he were closer to his beloved if he mirrored what she would have done. But it’s nearly not enough. And one day when he flees to his room, suffocated from Jennette’s love and drained from every bit of affection that she forced out of him, he slowly loosens his tie and stares at it and wonders, considers, just for a split second, just how much longer must he endure until he can meet her again?

Little Book Review: Sin Eater
Author: Megan Campisi.
Publication Date: 2020.
Genre: Alternate historical fiction (?).
Premise: Strap in, y'all, because this is complicated. May Owens, an orphaned teen laundress in Fake Elizabethan London, is arrested for stealing a loaf of bread. Expecting to be hanged, she's instead sentenced to be a Sin Eater for life. This means hearing confessions from the dying and then eating foods that symbolize their sins off their coffins. There are various other unpleasant requirements--speaking to no one except when hearing confessions, being forced to wear a non-removable collar, getting one's tongue tattooed, social ostracism, eternal damnation if one doesn't do everything right--but it does come with free room and board. Then the Sin Eater who's supposed to be mentoring May gets tortured to death. Why? A deer heart (symbolizing the murder of royalty) appeared on the coffin of a deceased lady-in-waiting, and the mentor wouldn't eat it because the lady-in-waiting had confessed to no such thing. Can May figure out what the hell is going on, adjust to her weird new life, and address a bunch of lingering childhood trauma?
Thoughts: Sin-eating, as depicted in this novel, never existed in Britain. Campisi was inspired to write this novel by a real-world tradition that started in and near Wales as early as the seventeenth century, but died out completely by the 1920s. Accounts vary as to how socially stigmatizing it was to be a sin eater; at best, they were poor, disreputable people doing a low-status job, and, at worst, they were feared and despised as people who had traded away their immortal souls and possibly consorted with demons. However, it was definitely not an island-wide, state-sanctioned role that people were officially sentenced to; it didn't require body modification, nor was it solely assigned to women.
In short, Campisi has created a fictional tradition that technically could have existed in Elizabethan London (as it doesn't involve magic or technology that didn't exist at the time), but demonstrably did not. This puts her in an interesting position that most historical fiction and fantasy writers don't find themselves in, because she has the following options:
Write a straightforward historical novel that just happens to have this one weird, fictional thing going on, with no further explanation. This would probably be the easiest option, but she either has to put an awkward author's note at the beginning or run the risk of readers thinking she knows jack shit about Elizabethan London.
Write an alternate history novel in which she explains how her version of sin-eating came to be in Elizabethan London. (Off the top of my head: Welsh people brought the tradition to London and other parts of England after migrating, but it only caught on in a big way as a response to the Black Death, during which time it developed distinctly English characteristics. The pious Henry VI was the first monarch to officially recognize it; however, the crueler official requirements didn't come about until the reign of Henry VIII, for reasons similar to the passing of the Tudor Poor Laws. Edward VI tried to ban it, but Mary I brought it back with a vengeance. Now it's allowed, but only because Elizabeth I branded it as an Anglican thing.) I think this makes for an interesting setting, but it is a lot of work for a story that's really just about one regular girl and some Tudor drama.
Write a story that takes place in a world that's similar in some ways to Elizabethan England (geography, level of technology, etc.), yet is substantially different. Maybe there's a young reigning queen, but she's not the often-disfavored daughter of a king with six wives; instead, maybe she had seven brothers who all died untimely deaths. Maybe the country's been torn apart by decades of religious conflict, but sin-eating is at the heart of the conflict instead of Fake Catholicism vs. Fake Protestantism. This might actually be the most organic way to handle things, but it does put the book in a weird place, genre-wise; people who want to read straight-up historical fiction won't be into it, and people who want to read fantasy might be put off by the lack of magic.
Any of these are better options than what Campisi chose, which is an unholy union between #1 and #3. Sin Eater is set in a world that's almost identical to Elizabethan London, except that (a) Campisi's version of sin-eating exists and (b) everybody has slightly different names. Instead of Queen Elizabeth, we have Queen Bethany, the daughter of King Harold II and his second wife Alys Bollings. She had an older sister named Maris, daughter of Harold II's first wife Constanza of Castile, who was a Eucharist. Harold II's third wife was named Jennette Cheney, whom you might think had a son named Edwin or whatever, but no, she had no children. What. You might also think that Jennette had a brother named Titus Cheney, who married Harold II's sixth wife and widow Katryna Park or whatever, but also no. He was named Titus Seymaur (no relation?) and he was married to Katryna...Parr. Confused yet? Because God is always called the Maker, and clergy are always Maker-men who preach sermons in Maker-halls, but Judas is still Judas and Eve is still Eve. Also, Roma people are called "eg*psies" (honestly, if you're going to make up a stupid word, at least use the opportunity to make it not a slur); it's something of a relief that the Jewish characters are just Jews. Oh, and the whole thing takes place in Angland.
This is some of the most irritating, distracting world-building I've ever encountered. It doesn't help that the only reason for the fake Tudor drama is a rather tired, mean-spirited mystery involving Queen Elizabeth/Bethany's secret baby and Katryna/Katherine Parr's long-lost daughter. And it's a shame, because when the story focuses on May--a lonely, angry, scared girl struggling to do the right thing and make a place for herself in the world--it's emotionally compelling. Her mixed feelings towards the fellow outcasts who start squatting in her home are particularly well-done, as are her encounters with religious outsiders. The mechanics of sin-eating are also fascinating; I liked seeing May visit dying people of various ages and stations in life. I think a person without my exact pet peeves would enjoy this novel a lot more, but it still wouldn't be great.
Hot Goodreads Take: There are many criticisms of this novel that I agree with, such as bad world-building, a weak mystery, a sophomoric understanding of religion, and gratuitous unpleasantness. (I love the dark, I love slippery things, but there was no reason for the tongue tattoo except to drive home that this whole thing sucks for May. I did not need to be further convinced!) There are also criticisms that I get, even if I don't feel the same way; for instance, I like the weird, bitter heroine, but I understand that she's not for everyone. On the other hand, one reviewer states, "I also didn’t care or need to know about the author’s childcare arrangements that she acknowledges at the end of her book." Like...cool, reviewer, but I don't think you understand the point of acknowledgments. They're to thank people. Are you going to complain that you "don't care that the book was manufactured in America, as the copyright page says"?

The 13-episode season will pick up nearly 10 years after the Nickelodeon series, which ran from 2007 to 2012. The core cast are all reprising their roles, with Cosgrove once again embodying Carly, while Trainor and Kress are returning as Carly's brother Spencer and her friend Freddie Benson, respectively.
And because it's been a while since we've seen the cast, "Carly has gone through a lot over the last 10 years — all the characters have," Cosgrove tells EW.

With the Freddie character, he's gone through a couple divorces," the actress reveals. "Spencer has become very wealthy, so there's a lot of different dynamics and different things going on."
As for Carly, she went to college and is pretty successful, Cosgrove continues, but she's "kinda in between" where Freddie and Spencer are at.
Spencer, who's "the most successful of all" the characters, still resides in the original loft he and Carly lived in, though he's remodeled it a bit. Cosgrove says she and Trainor worked with the set designer to keep some of the flair from the old series in the new set.
For instance, you can see below the bottle bot, a sculpture Spencer made that was a fixture on iCarly. Though they couldn't track down the original, the team asked the artist who made it to build one as identical as possible to be in Spencer's living room. Similarly, the designers had the same couch from the original reupholstered and updated.
"They tried to do a lot of cute, little things for the fans from the original that stayed the same," Cosgrove says.

You can also see that the loft's upstairs, which Carly used as a studio to film "iCarly," has been updated but looks pretty similar to the original.

The new show will catch up with Carly, who's now in her 20s and hasn't kept up with her "iCarly" web show that she hosted with her friends Freddie and Sam (Jennette McCurdy) as teens.
"She hasn't done 'iCarly' in a long time, and she decides to start it up again in the pilot," Cosgrove says. "So we're exploring what her new show is. And even though it's 'iCarly,' it's not the same as it was before. So we've been exploring a lot of different things with that, just like what a 26-year-old would really be doing if they had a YouTube channel nowadays."
Cosgrove, who's also an executive producer on the show, says she's excited to see how Carly will navigate YouTube and Instagram given how much the internet has grown since iCarly went off the air.
Not revealed yet is Carly's apartment, which is also at Bushwell Plaza, the same building in Seattle that Spencer's apartment is in. In the upcoming project, she lives with her roommate and best friend Harper (Mosley). And it wouldn't be iCarly without Freddie nearby, though this time around it may not be great news for the character.
"He's gone through a divorce and he's moved back in with his mother," Cosgrove says. "So Mary [Scheer], who played his mom on the show is back and we all are living in the same apartment building together."
Another new addition to the show is Triplett, who plays Millicent, Freddie's snarky and social media-savvy stepdaughter whom he adopted.
"It's funny because it's a lot of the old because we do have like the little studio we used to film in and we have Spencer's apartment, but then we have a lot of new sets and new characters, so it's like half and half," Cosgrove notes.
The revival will explain everyone's backstory in the pilot, and she says it was exciting to think about what all the characters would have been doing over the last decade. Cosgrove doesn't answer whether the show will address Sam's absence on the show, but she does promise the return of some fan-favorite recurring characters. Nevel Papperman (Reed Alexander), Carly's pretentious nemesis is slated to return, and they recently did an episode featuring Nora Dershlit (Danielle Morrow), the stalker "iCarly" fan who appeared in the original.
Currently halfway through filming, Cosgrove says she doesn't know how the last four or five episodes will play out yet. She has her own curiosities she wants the show to address, like what happened with Spencer and Carly's mom. And she says Trainor is dying for Spencer's unseen friend Socko to finally appear.
What Cosgrove is clear on, however, is what kind of show she wants iCarly to be, especially since it took the team "a really long time to figure out."
"We really tried to make this show, along with the showrunner Ali [Schouten], as much for the fans of the original as possible, because it's not really a kid show anymore," Cosgrove says. "It's mainly made for the people who watched when they were little, they're now more in their 20s."
"We're getting to explore different things with [what] the characters go through that we would never have been able to do before, that's a lot more like stuff that's happened in our real lives and things that people in their 20s and 30s go through," she adds. "It's just been a fun reunion getting to see everybody, and I'm really excited for people to see it."
Last thoughts 😑:
I have mixed feelings about this so I skip it no thanks. I hope it last for one season. Good luck to others who are going to watch this.
