What's the artwork about..?? "Sabareetik" is a fusion of the word from "Saree" & "Batik" fabrics. This is also to incorporate the Artist very own mixed parentage between the Javanese from Indonesia & the Indian from India. A cross cultural breed. It juxtaposes the richness of Javanese & Indian heritage & culture. The marriage of these two cultures have been a common sight in the precinct of Geylang Serai today. In the Early Settlement era, the Javanese & the Indian Traders formed the early migrants in Singapore which was formerly known as, "Temasek". Due to its geographical & strategic position, it has become a pulling factor for Traders from Java, India, Malaya, Arab & China to trade in Singapore. Thus, this led to the formation of Multi-Racial communities via inter-marriages. Now, Singapore has grown from an insignificant fishing village into a Metropolis. "Sabareetik '' conveys the message in preserving the values of multiculturalism for our future generation in the form of an Abstract Art. It depicts unity in diversity in our society. A dream city where all the differences unify as one. Thus, bridging us together as One Singapore. 14x5 maple snare with a thin 8-ply maple shell. We’ve made such thin-shelled ply snares before and man, are they sweet. Just think of groove-meister @mattraham and you know what sound i’m talking about. These have the resonance and purity of tone that would delight anyone. We rounded this snare off with a lovely hand-rubbed Walnut finish. It’s a keeper. This snare was delivered to @sotasg along with a Beech Pro kit and Pantheon cymbals. In Parliament on Monday, NMP Mr @terenceho3078 gave suggestions on growing arts excellence in Singapore. This is an area that @mccysg and @nacsingapore are working on with partner agencies and the arts community. One of the ways we are doing this is exposing the young to the arts. We also set up @sotasg more than 10 years ago to nurture students’ potential in arts and academics. We will study carefully Terence’s suggestion for an arts university, taking into account our changing arts education landscape. At the same time, we are committed to advancing our arts ecosystem - be it through supporting our artists, or helping our talents develop audiences at home and beyond our shores. I watched the play with my entire Year One cohort on Thursday and it was breathtaking! The set was ingenious, a grid with lights at each corner of a square that lit up in a box to show where the characters are, the change in lighting to show a different scenario, the Mathematical explanation on how Christopher solved the area of the right-angled triangle!!!
