Street Style

Street style photography is a genre of fashion photography that focuses on what clothes people are wearing on the street and how they are styling them. Photos are often taken of people attending different fashion weeks and runway shows and events. The location and lighting in the photos are important.

Jonathan Daniel Pryce

Jonathan Daniel pryce is a london based photographer known as Garconjon online. He sells prints and books of his work on his website and his work has also been featured in many magazines such as ID, Vogue, GQ etc.

i like that the colour of the subjects clothes is similar to the surroundings but they still manage to stand out from the background.

i like the lighting and colour in this photo

I like the bright colour of the subject hair which helps him stand out from the background and I also like the engagement with the camera.

Shoichi Aoki

Shoichi Aoki is a Japanese photographer who takes street style images in order to document the fashionable people in Japan. He started in the mid 1990s and managed to capture Harajuku’s transformation from a normal shopping district into a well known fashion hub. He created a few magazines one of which was FRUiTS magazine which was created in 1997 and helped bring a larger western audience to Japanese fashion after some of the photos featured in the magazine became popular. The magazine later became synonymous with Japanese fashion in the west. After 20 years of publication in 2017 Shoichi Aoki made the decision to cease pubication of the magazine controversially stating the he believed there were “no more cool kids to photograph”.

i like the expression in this image as the woman in the photo seems happy to be having her photo taken and seems very engaged with the camera. I feel the colour of her outfit also draws your eye to her.

again the expression of the people in the image is what i like about it.

Sandra Semburg is a fashion photographer from Berlin currently based in Greece. She has shot many campaigns for different brands including Chloe, Sonia Rykiel and Moda Operani. she also often shoots street fashion at different fashion events aroumd the world.

I like this image as i feel that the colour of the womans outfit makes her stand out against the plain background.

I like this image as I feel the colourws in the background and in the persons clothes are similar and they create a nice colour palette.

I like the light and shadows on the clothes in this detail shot.

I like the colour in this image

I like the lighting in this image and I like that the entire image is mostly black and white but his blue nails give a little bit of colour to it.

I like the colour in the photo and that even though it is a detail image the personality of the person in the photo is still clear.

Parisian Pentacles

In the tarot card deck, the nine of pentacles represents abundance. It is illustrated by a woman, dressed in a golden gown, embroidered with red flowers, standing in the middle of lush garden. Her right hand rests upon one of the nine giant coins dispersed around her, whilst her fingers entwine on a vine of grapes. On her left hand a hooded falcon is resting, showing the woman’s control over the element of air and therefore control over her thoughts (basically she’s rich and her head is screwed tight on her shoulders. She doesn’t go crazy every time there’s a sale on whatever channel has replaced QVC now. Apparently she prefers gardening and playing blindman’s bluff with a falcon). Taking inspiration from that and from this lovely streetstyle photo shot by the incredible Sandra Semburg during the Paris Fashion Week of 2018/19, I made my own interpretation of this card. It reminds me of the incredible luck I had of living in Paris for a good part of my life and the amazing encounters and friendships I made in the first place where I felt free and unencumbered by my “culture” (seriously Kelis had it right “you know sometimes you just gotta... HEY! RUN AWAY FROM HOME!). Of course for the pentacles I had to do some some a bit funky so I threw in a little Dragonball Z reference with the flowerhorn fishes, I call them my little bubbleheads. Bubblehead #5 is actually my little mascot for now (in case you’re wondering the five of pentacles represents financial ruin... just realized that and it’s a pretty accurate representation of my actual situation.. HEY BEING A ROGUE ARTIST IS HARD at first lol BUT patience IS A WEAPON... just ask Mother Nature ;-b).

Dans le jeu de carte de tarot, le neuf de pentacles représente le concept de l’abondance. Cette dernière est illustrée par l’image d’une dame portant une robe dorée, brodée de fleurs rouges se promenant dans un grand jardin luxuriant. Sa main droite posée sur une des neuf pièces d’or qui l’entoure, tient aussi une grape de raisin (ouais ouais la nana fait son propre pinard ;-b). Sur sa main gauche un faucon se trouve posé avec les yeux couvert représentant le pouvoir de cette dame sur l’air et par association son contrôle sur ses pensées. Prenant inspiration sur cette carte j’ai créé ma propre version de ce tableau en utilisant pour base une photo de l’incroyable photographe Sandra Semburg, prise pendant la Fashion Week 2018/19 de Paris. Cela me rappel la chance que j’ai eu de pouvoir vivre pendant un bon moment à Paris ou je me suis senti vraiment libre d’être moi même pour la première fois sans le poids de ma “culture” pour me casser les couilles et où je me suis fait un cercle d’amis que beaucoup de gens rêve d’avoir. Bien sûr j’ai aussi jeté une référence à Dragonball Z avec mes petits poissons boules-de-dragon-magiques parce-que euuuuuh WHY NOT?! Avouez ils sont trop cutes non? Poisson #5 est ma petite mascotte pour le moment et c’est marrant parce-que le 5 de pentacles représente la ruine financière (ce qui est précisément le cas de ma situation actuelle MAIS personne n’a dit que devenir un artiste allait être facile donc je me pleins pas et après tout la vie c’est comme le camembert, ça pue mais c’est bon à croquer ;-b).
