Friends to lovers, self acceptance, secret crush, high school set from Rookie Thailand (trailer). Looks high angst, messy, cheating, secret crush stars Bever (En of Love: TOSSARA, En of Love: Love Mechanics, The Best Story and Love Mechanics) and Tee Khunakorn (The Cupid Coach).

8 eps, starts Aug 7 on Rookie Thailand’s YT channel (I think)

The Eclipse

An enemies to lovers high school set, paladin bab boy pairing from GMMTV. This is right in their wheelhouse and was my most anticipated from GMMTV’s 2022 line up. Tropes include: sinister boarding school, haze the one you love, suspense & horror elements looks great, dark (but in a way Thailand can handle), kind of Blacklist-ish meets Great Men Academy. GMMTV excels at this kind of content. Stars First (The Shipper, Not Me) & Khaotung (Tonhon Chonlatee) side dish pair from FUTS NeoLouis. I actually really like this lead pair and I think they can handle the content. trailer

12 eps, starts Aug 12 on GMMTV’s Youtube channel

* I’m gonna point out an important thing. I find it notable that Khaotung as the aggressor/bad boy (for a change) in this GMMTV offering has his natural skin tone (aka darker) as opposed to when he’s playing a super uke role (see Tonhon Chonlatee). Now there could be mitigating factors (like the makeup people got better at matching base tones, or they were shooting outside a lot), but still Thailand’s propensity for associating negative/evil/poor/crazy characters with darker skin tones is so painful and so insidious I want everyone to notice this, especially when we see it being carried out on THE SAME actor by THE SAME production team.

And yes, Korea does this too.

My Only 12%

Friends to lovers, high school set, high angst, sunshine/sunshine pairing from Studio Wabi Sabi for iQIyI. (trailer) Neighbors and childhood friends, Cake & Seeiw, who have totally opposite personalities slowly growing apart. This one has the chemistry and the script so fingers crossed it’s not sad. Y-novel adaptation (author Afterday - Bad Buddy) starring SantaEarth (7 Project).

Do we trust Studio Wabi Sabi or director New anymore? Even with SantaEarth (especially with SantaEarth). That is the question.

180 Degree Longitude Passes Through Us

Coming to Gaga (trailer). Doesn’t look like BL: “Can a mother be more understanding of her son’s sensuality? Even if she does, will it be easy for her to accept his relationship with a man twice his age?”

About Youth AKA I Secretly Fell in Love with Student Council President

Enemies to lovers, high school set for CHOCO TV to air on Bilibili (no trailer) from the producers of HIStory 2&3, and Tsai Mi Chieh the director of H1: Stay Away From Me; H2: Crossing the Line; H3: MODC; Love Is Science (we like her). Adapted from the novel Secretly by Huang Si Mi about high school boys with different backgrounds, personalities, and values who compete for student president, but have more attraction than animosity. The drama focuses on two storylines: egocentric elite student Ye Guang who fights in the council elections with a quiet guitarist Xu Qi Zhang, and his friend Ray who after a recent breakup up with his boyfriend meets A Jian.

JAPAN

Takara and Amagi AKA Takara-kun and Amagi-kun AKA Takara-kun to Amagi-kun

Opposites attract, secret love high school popular/geek pairing from MBS (no trailer). Same studio as Mr Unlucky and Senpai, so expect that style. A popular guy and an outcast boy start dating in secret. Stars Jpop Idols Arata Sato (IMPACTors) as Takara and Nao Oriyama (Shonen Ninja) as Amagi.

8 eps, starts Aug 18 on ?

Interesting that there isn’t anything from Korea and nothing new for Viki this month. Although give them a chance, they drop suddenly and later sometimes.

I saw other people doing this so I thought I'd hop on the trend as well.

Currently watching:

KinnPorsche: I have some issues with this show (mostly regarding tone and pacing) but currently VegasPete occupies about 90% of my brain capacity at all times.

Love Mechanics: messy, dramatic and angsty. Yin and War are excellent in this.

Senpai, This Can't Be Love!: it's cute and Yanase's face is one of the most adorable things I have ever seen in my life and I want to aggressively pinch and squish his cheeks.

Even Sun: it's quite ridiculous and over the top, which is usually not my cup of tea, but I'm watching it for my boys Boun and Prem. The most tragic thing about this show is that the subtitles on Youtube are atrocious and almost incomprehensible. Don't know whether iQiyi's subtitles are as bad since the show is not available in my region.

Unforgotten Night: it's a dumpster fire but a somewhat entertaining one. I do roll my eyes and snort at it a lot, though.

Check Out: I'm an episode behind because this hasn't really grabbed me, it's been a slow start so far.

La Cuisine: I started this a few weeks ago but only got maybe 3 episodes in before I sort of forgot about it. It’s not a bad show, it’s just on the slower side and I need to be in the right head space to be able to focus. I’ll try and continue it at some point.

I also have several BLs on my watchlist that I've been meaning to get to or I'm waiting on for them to finish their run so I can binge them when I feel like it.

Non-BL: I'm not currently watching any, but I've been meaning to start the 4th season of Stranger Things and the 3rd season of The Boys. I'm also waiting on new episodes for the Korean Money Heist.

Rewatching: I'm not much of a rewatcher even though I constantly say "I should rewatch that" about my favourite shows. 😅 I did start rewatching Lovely Writer a while back but never finished that.

Upcoming BLs I'm excited about:

Love in the Air: apparently this starts airing July 9th, so tomorrow? (I jumped the gun on that, we got a trailer. The show starts on August 18th) I guess my brain wants more trashy things to watch, so who am I to resist.

War of Y: mostly because of BillySeng and ToruFirst.

Never Let Me Go: the premise seems interesting.

Between Us: my boys, my babies, I need them back in my life.

I only included upcoming shows that have a release date, there are many others that have been announced or are on their way but have no set release date yet.

Love By Chance: it's actually pathetic how often my brain goes "oh- so we rewatch now? how about- now? ....and now?" when will enough be enough? it's the question for the ages (just AePete parts; sometimes I watch TinCan when the mood strikes).

UWMA: still doing a weekly(ish) rewatch with @flukenatouch, but I've watched random eps innumerable times & the whole shebang 2-3 times. like LBC, it's a sickness & I'm not seeking treatment.

Light On Me: thanks to a bunch of y'all running through the blog & rbing my old LOM posts (you know who you are), I've got LOM on the brain & I'm craving a rewatch- as if I don't have enough on the entertainment plate already, you menaces.

Love By Chance 2: I just finished a second rewatch because the first time around wasn't stellar, but I wanted to give it a second chance (heh)- aaaand no dice. I love Tin and Can's dynamic and there was so much potential there, but Plan's stiff acting (maybe even outright discomfort) anytime physical affection was required kept breaking my immersion. le sigh.

Absolute BL: anytime I want to scream laugh 'till I'm gasping, this is where I go.
