You know what? I think Yude should have explored more the mentor/pupil relationship ... we saw so little of Ramenman and Mantaro and Kevin and Warsman, too ... - Cristy ;)

I’ll be honest . . . 

I think he probably forgot about Ramenman. 

I mean, there’s a throwaway panel when Ramenman dies, that quickly explains how/why Mantaro was still able to otherwise learn how to fight, but otherwise we seem to have a huge focus instead on Mantaro and Suguru (likewise for Kevin Mask and Robin Mask, to some extent). 

I think maybe that was intentional, as he explored mentor/pupil bonds a lot in the original series . . . everyone from Suguru and Meat, to Warsman and Robin, to even more obscure ones like Sneagator and the Devil Chojin. I kind of felt like maybe he intentionally downplayed the mentor/pupil relationships in Nisei, as he wanted the focus to be on parental relationships. 

I know it was a common running-joke in fandom about all the daddy issues at play, but - really - it’s explored no more or less than how mentor/pupil relationships were explored in the original. In a way, it’s an interesting contrast and complementary approach; in one we see friendship and found family, and in the other we see literal family (both adoptive and biological).

I mean, there could have been room for both, sure, and I would have liked to have seen at least some acknowledgement of Ramenman’s impact on Mantaro, and even how/why that differed so much from Suguru . . . I mean, you mention Warsman and Kevin, but to me we had absolutely loads of them, which is odd, as it was done without compromising exploration of the Robin and Kevin relationship, so - yeah - they could have done the same with Ramenman, too.

We saw how Warsman and Kevin met, and how they trained, and them on their down-time together, and then - twice after - we saw Warsman watching over Kevin, saving his life, and never once letting go of Kevin. Equally, Kevin carries around Chloe’s mask everywhere with him and mentions Warsman a lot, so we know of their bond pretty well (and it does make for an interesting contrast with Robin Mask, so - in a way - we can learn about one from the other).

tl;dr I feel personally that Yudetamago changed the focus of Nisei, and - in the process - forgot about the bond between Ramenman and Mantaro, at the expense of what could have been a good comparison point with Suguru and Mantaro (like how Suguru is easy to compare with Mayumi, due to the equal focus and exploration, which is interesting, too). So yeah . . . it’s a shame, but there’s also so damned much I’d change about Nisei, if I could XD

What made Sneagator, one of the opponents of Kinnikuman (or Muscleman to us English speakers), interesting was that, as he got injured throughout the wrestling match, his laced up hide would pop open, splitting apart to reveal a new reptilian form underneath. This version, which looks like a weird alligator/cobra hybrid, was his initial form, and became the appearance of M.U.S.C.L.E. #72 from the Mattel released version.
