found myself looking through AA6 theory posts from before the game released on someone else's blog. highlights:

-someone thought that the prosecutor would be Apollo's dad, which is remarkably close to the truth

-hopes/theories that thalassa will come back

-another person correctly guessed that trucy would be the defendant in the magic case

-multiple posts refer to rayfa as "leifa". one person thinks that her name is a star wars reference (leia and padme, specifically)

-confusion over nahyuta's gender and spelling of their name (someone mentions the "van zieks saga last year" - not terribly relevant to the theorizing but still interesting/funny, i remember seeing some fanart of him from right after he was announced tagged "baroque van sikes" or something like that)

-guessing that the blurry photo of mr. reus/manov mistree is apollo's dad

anyways i'm just gonna post this now, might reblog with updates. it's a fascinating look into a time i wasn't around for

Magical turnabout is legitimately great and I'm gonna be honest, from a murder mystery standpoint, might be one of the best cases full stop. There's more aspects to what makes a good AA case than just the mystery in my mind so it's not gonna beat out Farewell my turnabout or anything as my favourite case but in that aspect it is immaculate. Every conclusion felt reasonable. Every piece of evidence added up, even ignoring the stuff that ends up in the court record. (Mr hats capes? Ugh so good) It rewards knowledge of the subject matter. If you know how certain tricks are performed you have an edge on solving it. I know how teleportation tricks are normally performed so that coming into the case made perfect sense. And it manages all this despite being technically very convoluted. Sure the killer was maybe a bit obvious but this is also AA and that's kind of always a thing but they put the mystery far more on figuring out how it happened not who did it which is smart for a series where at this point you kinda know the drill for the killers. Great case. Very much like Farewell in that it's an excellent case preceded by one of the worst in the series

This being said I did not give Trucy the fucking notebook at the end. FUCK that. She does not need to define herself by her shitty bio family. I have her the tape of her own performance because that's what she should be defining herself by.

The thing about the fire bucket in The Magical Turnabout is that when Apollo and Athena find it, there's a layer of dust in it. You use this to prove it wasn't filled as proof that Bonny and Betty knew the fire trick wasn't going to happen. But the thin layer of dust doesn't mean just that the bucket wasn't filled that day, it means that it hasn't been filled in some time. Which means either that they never ran through the fire trick, or they committed a blatant OSHA violation when they did.

troupe gramarye makes me soooooo crazy oh my fucking god why are they LIKE THAT ohhhhhhmygod. valant who was always second-best, second-best to magnifi, to zak, to thalassa, wasn’t worthy of being an heir, wasn’t worthy of being loved back, wasn’t worthy of anything. roger who was just a teenager when magnifi gramarye took him in and barely an adult when he kicked him to the curb. just a stupid kid who was too prideful for his own good. lost his job lost his home lost his family and didn’t know what to do except slip into a fake version of himself out of the raw shame. thalassa who woke up scared and alone and in darkness, nobody by her side. her father abandoned her. her father abandoned her. the two people she loved the most didn’t even know she was alive. she lost her son. she didn’t know what happened to her daughter. she didn’t know anything. she was lost and afraid and her own father abandoned her and she didn’t know what to do except do what she was told. zak who was a terrible person, a terrible father, but still had to shoulder the guilt of believing he killed the person he treasured more than anyone else, still carried a picture of trucy next to his heart for seven years, still loved valant like a brother. trucy who lost all of her family. doesn’t quite remember what her daddy looked like, doesn’t even know who her mother is, doesn’t even have the privilege of being looked at by her uncle without seeing the sadness that fills his eyes when he does. fuck magnifi for ever and ever i think

Magical turnabout is another case where I'm screaming wondering what's going through Edgeworth's head. Like it's canon Trucy and he are close right? Even in this game she sleeps on his shoulder. And he put the one prosecutor who thought she was guilty on the case. It's said they're short staffed. Did he put Nahyuta on the case before hand and then hand this spiral wildly out of control? Does he think she could be guilty? Can he not interfere because he's worried about a conflict of interest? Is he screaming about what the fuck Nick is doing in the Lawyer murder country which is distracting him or this doesn't even get passed up to him? Does he literally only find out when he goes home that night with a dozen panic calls? Or does he like Nick just have a lot of faith in Apollo? The fundamental issue with making him chief prosecutor is that literally every higher up decision in these games also has to make sense with his motivations now
