I made these felted ALOTO figurines for my friends for the holidays last year. Pictured are Lupe, Carson, Greta, Esti, and Shirley (all in their Peaches uniforms) and Max in her grey baseball shirt and blue hat (with Esti, since I wasn’t finished with her when I took the first picture). I love them and have my own lil’ Carson and I’m so happy with how they all turned out.
Flash forward to a few weeks ago: I have two friends who work on a fan podcast, and since they live in NY, they were very much planning on seeing Thanksgiving Play. And they said they would bring their little Gretson figurines to show at the stage door.
And, well…
This happened.
And so lil’ Gretson found their new homes with THE Greta Gill
(The video was unprompted, because D’Arcy is just such a gem of a human like that.)
And that’s the story of how Lil’ Gretson were adopted (with my consent 😆) by D’Arcy Carden and I’ve been riding this high the whole damn week.
Just saw that D’Arcy Carden has joined the cast of one of the plays my partner and I are seeing in NYC in March, The Thanksgiving Play by Larissa Fasthorse. I’m screaming.
you seem like a person to ask- why IS D'arcy Carden covered in blood at the end of The Thanksgiving Play?
You are correct, I AM a person to ask! I saw the play 3 times because I have a problem.
Spoilers below the cut. Content warning for comedic depictions of real acts of Native genocide.
As you may or may not know, The Thanksgiving Play is about four white people who are tasked with writing and performing a historically accurate play about the first Thanksgiving, which descends into chaos as they quickly realize that it is impossible to do without having a Native American presence in their play. Since they cannot play such roles themselves, two of the characters get the idea that they can do so through featuring the heads of murdered Native Americans as props.
So they throw the heads around like footballs, getting blood all over themselves and the set. An important detail to note is that this is all happening while the NFL theme is playing in the background. If you sat in the front row (which I did once), there was always a chance of getting sprayed with blood (my backpack has the stains to prove it). I also heard that during the second to last show, D'Arcy allegedly flung blood on purpose at a few of my twitter mutuals who were regular patrons of the show.
You can read the full script of the play as it was performed on Broadway here.
