Can you believe it’s been a year?! KFLIXNET is reaching its first anniversary, and it wouldn’t have been possible without our members. From the ones who were there from the beginning to the ones who joined recently, all of you precious beings make up this lovely network and it’s only fair we show our appreciation.
For this anniversary special event, send in an all-time favorite work that you’ve written! With the network hitting a huge milestone, we thought the best way of celebrating was to give our fellow members and their works a shout-out.
It doesn’t matter if your work is only a paragraph or an entire novel’s worth of words, this event calls for a work you enjoyed writing regardless of the love it received.
Send in your recommendations to our ask box by doing so:
title of work + author
link to the work (can be linked to the title)
pg-13 or pg-18
any additional comment regarding the fic, or a comment for us :)
anonymous submissions are allowed, too!
Deadlines are the end of this month, November 30, so hurry, send us your works! Please note you can only recommend one work per member. We are excited to see your favorite works and even more excited to give them a shout-out! Much love, Admin Maks and Loki <3

End of the year kick, week three
Tumblr media
Failing with Style
A fresh new project, and a fresh new challenge is always exciting. As Anne of Green Gables said, it is nice to think of tomorrow as a brand new day with no mistakes in it yet.
I always begin a new project with the idealistic idea that maybe I can keep it that way, free of mistakes.
But then I’m faced with a brutal truth.
I’m a failure. I suck at maintaining streaks. I’ve failed at every daily writing goal I’ve ever attempted.
I think right now, with nanowrimo half over, a lot of people are feeling my same pain. And are thinking about quitting on that project that was so exciting and new just two weeks ago. Maybe you’re thinking ‘next time I’ll do better. I’ll be better. I’ll finally get it right.”
Hard truth: you won’t. Failure is inevitable.
It’s a hard thing to accept. It’s easier to quit than to accept failure and keep going.
Here’s some ways to do it.
Build in allowances for failure. Yes, if you want to write 50k in 30 days that means you need to write 1,667 words per day. That’s a great plan, if you believe that every single day for 30 days straight you’ll actually have ideal writing circumstances. Instead of banking on that unlikely scenario, set your daily goal a little higher, to allow space for a few low word count days, or even misses.
Start Over. Are those missed days and flagging word counts getting to you? So quit. And restart today. Blank slate. A brand new challenge with no mistakes in it yet. Forget about what happened before now. Some things in my life are just a never ending series of failures and restarts. And I’m okay with that. It’s still forward progress.
Change the goals. So it’s pretty clear you’re not going to your deadline, whether writing 50k by November 30, or if it’s something different. But guess what? There’s no magic fairy dust that is sprinkled on your manuscript if you do ‘win’. So change the goal. It’s still a great achievement to write a novel in 2, 3, 6 months, and you may very well write something you’re more proud of if you give yourself a little more time to get there.
Learn from it. If you really do feel like quitting is the only option, use it to learn something about yourself. Think about what obstacles you encountered, and what happened to make you quit. And then apply your new self knowledge next time you attempt a big challenge.
Keep on writing!

FAQ
Our F.A.Q is now available!
You can either continue reading this post to find out more about the project, or you can read them here!
What is Xiaolin Reanimated?
This is a multi-animator project in which animators will be given a section of the show to animate. Once everything is complete, it’ll be edited together to create the episode! Due to the fanbase being small, it is likely that we won’t be able to animate the whole episode, but we have got a handful of scenes from the show that we have in mind. Participants are free to re-interpret the shot they’re given.
When will the project start?
We plan on sending confirmation emails and possibly invites to a Discord server around November 28, 2022. Everyone should be assigned their shot by December 5, 2022.
Will there be a Discord server for the participants?
Yes, if there is enough interest in the project as a whole and if people want to. We will not force participants to be in the server, but it creates a sense of community, and allows others to share tips and resources.
What’s the project timeline?
June 9–November 28, 2022: Interest check/open application November 28, 2022: Notify applicants and send out Discord invite links November 28-December 5, 2022: Assign sections to animators January 30, 2023: Check-in 1 March 20,2023: Check-in 2 May 15, 2023: Check-in 3 July 10, 2023: Check-in 4 September 4, 2023: Check-in 5 October 26, 2023: Check-in 6: Final Cut due November 1, 2023: Final cut is posted online!
What are the video specs?
1280x720 pixels, 24fps, mp4/mov uncompressed
What is the final deadline for submissions?
October 26, 2023: Check-in 6: Final Cut Due If you’re running late for any of the check-ins, please inform one of the organizers so that an extension or reassignment can be discussed. Please account for video editing and rendering.
Can I make changes to my final shot after submission?
Yes, but you have until October 30th, 2023 to make changes.  The goal is to release the finished video on November 1st, the original premiere date of the series.
What kind of animation is allowed?
Absolutely any kind! As long as you’re able to animate your shot and get it to us on time.
Can I choose a specific shot?
When confirmations are sent you’re free to put in a request for what kind of shot you’d like. For example, if you’d like a shot with more action or a shot including your favorite character from the first episode, we’ll make a note of that when distributing them.
Can I alter the characters?
As long as they’re still recognizable, go ahead!
Can I change the staging or alter the shot to be different from the original?
Of course! Like with altering character designs, as long as important features and aspects of the shot are still included, you’re free to do what you want.
Can I trace for my shot?
We don’t mind if you trace from the original episode, but it would need to be different enough from the source by style or other means. Consider it a recreation of XS in your own style.
Should I use my real name or online alias when signing up?
That’s entirely up to you and what you’re comfortable with. As long as you inform others of how you’d like to be referred to as in the final cut, so that appropriate credits can be given, it does not matter which name you use when applying. It is considered more professional to use your real name, especially if you want to use this project on a resume.
How will I know if I’ve been selected to participate in the project?
On November 28, 2023, we will send out confirmation emails to applicants who have been successful in obtaining a spot on the team.
Can I share my finished piece or progress?
Of course! But please post it AFTER the final project is posted. Make sure to tag it with #XiaolinReanimated so that we can share what you’ve made.
How often should I share my work in progress?
Ideally you should share a WIP at the end of each step of your process (i.e. Finished storyboards, finished animatic, finished rough animation, finished line art, finished color, finished shading, finished rendering, filtering, or compositing). This is to catch any mistakes early on, so that you do not have to redo the entire shot from scratch.
Can I collab with someone on my animation?
Yes!
Should I add a credit/watermark when making my submission?
No. This is something that will be done when the final cut is being put together. You may add a credit or watermark when you post your cut to your preferred social media channels.
What if I don’t know how to animate?
There are other positions available. You could be a mod for the Discord server, create and provide backgrounds or other assets for animators to use, or - if you're comfortable animating a blink or something simple - a still animation shot. More details will be provided when the project gets underway.
What if I can animate, but don't have access to an animation program?
Try one of the free animation programs listed in this blog entry.  There are also links to tutorials on how to use each program.  Read up on the tools and features each offers to choose the one that you think will best suit your needs.  Synfig, Blender, and Kirita were the programs more seasoned animators recommended.
Where can I find the character references?
Character references are available under the #character reference tag.
Alternately, here are individual tags for the characters:
Clay Bailey
Dojo
Jack Spicer
Kimiko Tohomiko
Master Fung
Omi
Raimundo Pedrosa
Wuya
Where and when will the finished project be posted?
The video will be posted to the Director's YouTube channel (here) between November 1-3. An announcement will be made when the video is live!
Will there be a "Xiaolin Chronicles Reanimated?"
At this stage, that’s unlikely. XC was created nearly 10 years after XS, and as much as we would like to celebrate that as well, two projects going at the same time would be too much for everyone on the team to handle. This may be reconsidered in the future, but for the time being, the answer is no.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask. Our ask box is open and there’s always the option of messaging one of the organizers directly if the ask didn’t seem to be sent through.

Putting in job applications when I (a) really don't want to give my time to a random employer when I have 20+ books for people to buy and provide me income and (b) have, in my experience, never gotten a job unless I knew someone in the company, even when I was spam applying to every company that looked likely is an underratedly insurmountable task. My brain just equates applications as useless, and I might as well spend that time working on my next book. (I have four up for preorder right now, and I don't want to miss those deadlines!)
I don't drive, I live about 30 minutes away from any proper job, I'm some flavor of neurodivergent, and my priority is always going to be my author career, and employers just don't want to deal with me. The fact that I held McDonald's down for five years probably will make me look better now than the two nine-month stints I did the last time I was putting in applications, but ... still. I also don't want a full time job, and I just need to boost my income by about $500-$800 a month.
I also keep running into walls with looking into online jobs 'cause my wifi is not the best and my attention span is pitiful. Transcription looked promising, but entry level gets left with the scraps, and it's not worth the effort. I'm going to try to upgrade my wifi tomorrow and get rid of my landline (last time I tried to get rid of my landline, I was told that they don't do no-landlines for my location, but I've been told otherwise last week, I'll just have to get a better wifi package), so that might not be an issue. But, it's still time that I could spend writing.
But I'm also hitting a wall of executive disfunction where I'm so worried about finances (and I'm almost at the end of my savings and tax return, and while April was a good month for sales, that spike has not maintained as well as I'd hoped. Seriously, who doesn't want to read Jane Austen and Fairy Tales at the same time???), that I'm just watching playing resource management sims and idle games because at least there I get the positive feedback of making money. It's a vicious cycle that just makes me and my loved ones more upset with me.
*sigh* I really don't know what to do. My one side gig has just opened another opportunity for me that I have taken, but I'm not sure yet how much more it will provide (though it is going to be a lot more reliable than hoping people schedule parties for me to host).
Anyone want a book? I have 20+ of them, as I've mentioned, and one will be releasing at the end of this month. I don't know which one it will be yet, because I have two contenders and the other will release next month (and it's probably going to be the opposite of what I've currently told Amazon.) I won't get paid for any sale made this month until the end of October, but it will still be helpful for November, and my royalties to be paid this month and next month are ... not terrible? They're triple digits, at least.
I'm gonna wander off and go write more of my Emma / Rapunzel retelling. The Frank Churchill character just showed up and I'm rolling into the downhill of the story, which shall be glorious.

Things that scare me tonight:
I have about an hour before bed (which clearly I'm spending productively) to write a homework assignment, notes on a reading, and it's also the artificial deadline I made for a letter I've been meaning to write for months and haven't yet and won't be able to finish tonight :/
tomorrow I have classes till 7:30 pm and then it takes me about an hour to get home and one of my classes has an assignment for which we receive instructions in class (at 1 pm) which is due by the end of the day :|
I haven't clocked any work hours yet this week and I need at least six hours by the end of Friday
I just found rotting in my old school email a message from a former professor asking me to chat with a student who's applying to my current school. The email was from November :(
I keep feeling like I'm going to forget to bring a spoon for my lunch tomorrow. I just sense it. -_-
I haven't started the readings for Thursday's class yet which means I'll probably run out of time and have to scrape my way through class like last week and the week before last :[
What happens if I get to the end of this semester and have to write my prospectus and still don't have any idea what I want to write about? Do I fail? Do they kick me out? (No, but I think it would be much more pleasant if I knew what I wanted to write about.) :^(
But honestly so many things are going surprisingly well this semester. I can't say clearly enough how much better my mental health is now than it was a year ago. All of the things that are stressful or difficult in grad school are things that were stressful or difficult in undergrad. I always had a feeling I'd be the right sort of person for this sort of thing, and I think I was right.

FAQ
What are the zine requirements for art and fic content?
Art and fic must feature a character or characters from the TV show BBC Merlin. For artists, the art should be 8.5 x 11 inches (2550 x 3300 pixels) at 300 dpi, with the final submission format being PNG.
For writers the fic limit is 2,500 words, and also the ratings for all works should be no higher than PG-13.
Additionally, I ask that participants please refrain from making artwork/writing that includes incest for the zine.
Who are the mods? What experience do they have?
There are no mods yet besides me, Cris (hot-house-orchid on tumblr). This is my first time making a zine, but I have participated in a couple zines before. There may be more mods soon!
How many contributors of each type will be selected?
Depending on how many contributors apply, I would like to accept as many as possible!  It would be great to have many creators all in one zine.
What is the Excalibur (BBC Merlin) Zine about?
The zine is for BBC Merlin fans to make art and fiction about a character or characters they like from the BBC Merlin TV show. Including shipping in writing/art is totally up to the participants!
Will the zine be digital or physical?
This zine is going to be digital!
What is doctors without borders?
The proceeds of the zine will be going to https://www.doctorswithoutborders.org , which provides medical humanitarian aid to people impacted by conflict, natural disasters, epidemics, and more.
What rating will the zine be?
PG-13, though artistic nudity and non-sexual intimacy is okay.
How does the application process work?
Applications for artists, writers, and mods will be through google forms. The applications will be open from October 13, 2022 – November 14, 2022.
Then, applications will be reviewed from Nov. 14, 2022 – Nov. 19, 2022.
Lastly, approved applicants will be contacted and have from Nov. 20, 2022 – Nov. 25, 2022 to confirm their acceptance into the zine.
What if I want to provide both writing and art for the zine?
That’s awesome! Just make sure to fill out both the writer application and the art application.
What if I would like to collaborate with another artist/writer for the zine? (ex. writing a fic and having an artist make an illustration for it.)
That can be done! Both collaborating participants have to apply as a writer or an artist to the zine, though.
Are you accepting most applicants?
Yes, lots of Merlin fans working together to make a project would be awesome.
What if I need to drop out of the zine?
That's okay! Please just let me know.
If I have further questions, where can I reach you?
You can send me an ask or message me directly on tumblr at https://excaliburzine.tumblr.com/ or send me an email at [email protected]

CANADA QUEBEC INVESTOR PROGRAM
The Quebec Immigrant Investor Program (QIIP) remains the only opportunity for high net worth individuals wishing to secure permanent residence in Canada on the basis of a passive investment.
Introduced in 1986, the highly successful Quebec Immigrant Investor Program (QIIP) offers qualified high net worth individuals and families worldwide the opportunity to immigrate to Canada through the Province of Quebec. With the closure of Canada’s Federal Immigrant Investor program, the exclusive QIIP is the only Canada investor visa of its kind currently available to international business people, and it boasts similar investment standards as the former federal program.
Quebec selects the candidates who meet its Immigrant Investor Program criteria and grants them a Quebec Selection Certificate. This document allows investors and their immediate families to apply for a permanent residence visa with the federal government of Canada, to obtain this visa unconditionally and, ultimately, to have the right to apply for Canadian citizenship after meeting the residency requirements.
The province of Quebec offers an Immigrant Investor Program that aims to attract wealthy individuals and their families and is managed by the Ministry of Immigration, Francisation, and Integration. Quebec society is modern, pluralist and egalitarian. It has welcomed more than 50,000 new immigrants every year since 2004. While French is the official language of the province, English is widely spoken in major cities and the business community. Under the Immigrant Investor Program, the interest on investments made by immigrant investors is distributed by the government as non-repayable contributions to Québec businesses as well as for funding the Employment Integration Program for Immigrants and Visible Minorities (PRIIME).
If you are planning to live in Quebec, we encourage you to visit the Province to assess the viability of your furture business prospects. You may claim points based on any business-related visits to Quebec within the last year from the date of your application.
Qualifying Criteria
– Have alone, or with an accompanying spouse, minimum net assets worth CAD$2,000,000 gained legally, including donations given more than six months before an application is filed.
– Have qualifying management experience for at least two years during the five years preceding the submission of an immigration application.
– Have the intention to settle in Quebec, sign an investment agreement with an authorized financial intermediary and invest CAD$1,200,000 for 5 years at 0% interest (financing is available).
– Candidates who can demonstrate knowledge of French through a standardized test can submit an application at any time.
– Obtain, by the prescribed deadline, an attestation of learning about democratic values and the Québec values. The members of your family accompanying you (your spouse of 16 years of age or older and your dependent children of 18 years of age or older) must also obtain the attestation.
ATTENTION: Intake Paused November 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020
Successful applicants are required to make their investment with Investissement Québec for a period of five years, at the end of which the capital is returned without interest. The five year period begins upon issuance of the selection certificate before the applicant has even landed in Canada. Successful applicants are issued a selection certificate from Quebec for Canada immigration, which allows them to obtain Canadian permanent residence following health and criminality examinations by Federal immigration authorities.
Important: Legally Aquired Networth
In order to meet the minimum net worth requirement of $2 million, applicants must demonstrate the net value of their current assets, as well as their history of the acquisition of funds over the course of their careers with supporting documentation.
Net worth is established through bank statements, investor booklets, real estate evaluations, audited financial statements and other pertinent and up to date documentation. Candidates are required to declare all of their personal assets and liabilities; however, they are not required to produce evidence of assets beyond $2 million.
Applicants must also demonstrate that their net worth was acquired legally. This takes into account the individual’s past employment income, businesses, local market conditions, inheritances and donations. While it is often difficult to produce detailed documentation of the early stages of an applicant’s career, clear supporting documents will facilitate the application process
You must intend to reside in Quebec. It is your responsibility to prove a genuine intention to reside in Ontario as described in Section 87(2) (b) of the Immigration Refugee Protection Act, S C 2001, c27, Regulations which state that “a foreign national is a member of the nominee class if they intend to reside in the province that nominated them”.
Processing Time
The province of Quebec takes between 12 to 14 months to process the application. IRCC, prior known as CIC, takes 3 to 4 years to issue the permanent resident status depending on your country of origin or residence. Therefore, it can approximately 4 to 5 years for you to arrive in Canada. Delays can be minimized by presenting all relevant information accurately and strategically. The government never advises the time needed to process an application but it always mentions the time it took to process 80% of the applications in the last year.

Oregon Residents
This past Tuesday, after getting a delivery at our new residence with my name on the package, we were ready to hit the local DMV to get our car registered and apply for new driver's licenses. Nancy had already gotten a piece of mail from the local utility board, and we had managed to dig the car's title out of the filing cabinet, so we were prepared.
The DMV is located about 10 minutes from our place, and we headed over there about 2 p.m. It is possible to sign up online for an appointment, but some had suggested it was just as easy to do a walk-in. We did and after waiting about 30 minutes we began the process with a very friendly representative.
We walked out after another thirty minutes or so with the new license tags in hand (we went with the standard Oregon plate with the tree in the middle between the numbers and letters) and a promise that our new title and driver's licenses would be coming soon in the mail.
We had also gotten registered to vote as part of the process. Since it was the last day to register in order to be eligible for the upcoming primary elections in May, we might have made the deadline, but since we are so unfamiliar with Oregon's slate of candidates at this point it is likely we'll wait until the big election in November to actually cast a ballot.
With the help of a neighbor who had the proper tool for the job we managed to get the license plates on the car on Wednesday, just in time for our trip to Costco to pick up a new 65-inch Samsung TV. We will be setting it up today, along with a stand we picked up from Target. Nancy's daughter and son-in-law helped haul the big items back in their truck.
On Tuesday evening I also got to the men's meeting of the local NA fellowship, one I had been to a couple of times during our visit here last summer. It was a good meeting, and a nice change from the Sunday evening group that was rather chaotic. I will likely check out another Sunday evening meeting in Springfield. And today there's a noon meeting I will try out which might complete the trio of meetings my schedule in Tucson had consisted of lately.
P.S. Another reflection of our new residency is the change to the "links" section of my website. It now displays Oregon-related links, and the larger page it connects to has been organized and will continue to grow as we do more exploring of our new home state.

Understanding NPCI's Role in Shaping India's Digital Payments Future
By the end of this year, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) might change its decision about limiting the market share of companies offering Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services to 30%. The deadline for this limit to take effect is December 2024.
A source in the industry told Business Standard that the 30% cap on transaction volume for UPI services will be reviewed by the end of the year.
In November 2022, a 30% cap on transaction volume for third-party app providers was proposed. UPI players were asked to limit their market share to 30% within two years.
In March, the NPCI discussed UPI growth with new players and strategies to empower them in the UPI ecosystem. This included encouraging third-party payment apps to attract users through investments and incentives.
Brands like Cred, Slice, Fampay, Zomato, Groww, and Flipkart are trying to attract users and promote their UPI services.
Last year, NPCI introduced an interchange fee on prepaid payment instrument (PPI)-based merchant transactions through UPI. The interchange fee for PPI issuers on transactions over Rs 2,000 is up to 1.1%, but it applies only to PPI-based merchant UPI transactions. UPI transactions in India increased by 56% in volume and 44% in value in FY24 compared to the previous year.
Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm were not invited to a recent meeting. This was because these three companies control more than 90% of both the number and value of UPI transactions.
NPCI wants to hear from different people about how they can make things fairer for smaller companies in the payment system.
Earlier this week, NPCI said One 97 Communications (OCL), Paytm's parent company, can move its users to new banks for UPI payments. This means Paytm can now offer UPI services through other banks.
In March, NPCI also let OCL work as a Third-Party Application Provider (TPAP) using many banks.
"After NPCI said yes on March 14, 2024, to let OCL work as a Third-Party Application Provider (TPAP) using many banks, Paytm has made it easier to move user accounts to Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, State Bank of India (SBI), and YES Bank. All four banks are now ready to help Paytm with this," the company said in a stock exchange filing.
