-Kenneth Petersen Reflexiona y ora: ¿Qué te preocupa? ¿Qué piensas de la perspectiva de morir? ¿Cómo te alienta 1 Corintios 15? https://www.instagram.com/p/CmG504WuU81/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Tom Morley emailed around St Patrick's Day: "Marc, Our Chattanooga - based band Stringer's Ridge played a concert on St. Patrick's Day at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC. (I am there on the faculty at the famous folk arts school usually once a year teaching beginning or intermediate Irish Fiddle.) We had a wonderful crowd and it was a great way to spend the best Irish day of the year! I am enclosing several photos of us at the historic Keith House where we put on the concert. (Tom Morley - fiddle, Fran Morley - bodhran, Bryant Haynes - guitar)
Thanks for all you do to promote Irish trad music!"
STRINGER'S RIDGE
Marilyn S. Hansen sent a photo about Easter Rising Band: "14 seminarians got together years ago in St. Louis and developed an Irish band. Most of them are married now. They play at each other’s weddings, but they also have regular gigs. The interesting part is how their kids take part… This is last year‘s celebration. I was out of town this year celebrating my sister’s birthday the day before St. Patrick’s Day. Thought I’d send you last year’s photo. I’ll send you a few that they’ve sent to me for this year.
EASTER RISING BAND
Pete Watson emailed St Pat's photos: "Hi Marc, The Bookends had a fabulous time playing a number of shows throughout Ontario around St. Patrick's Day.Attached is a photo of Miriam (left) and Cait (right) on St. Paddy's Day for our gig at The Rec Room, Toronto, with our regular special guest bodhrán player extraordinaire, Romano Di Nillo.Romano is just back from 4+ years with Come From Away on Broadway and we were so glad to have him with us for these shows. The venue was handing out some "paddywhackery" to attendees and these 3 couldn't resist putting some on!"
THE BOOKENDS-PETE WATSON
Bruce Cummings, a Piper emailed a photo: "Hey Marc!Just to say how much I enjoy listening to the Celtic music you provide. You asked for pictures from St. Patrick's Day 2023, so here's a couple. I am part of the Lane Fire Brigade Pipes and Drums in Eugene Ore. We had a great weekend piping in the area.Keep up the good work!"
BRUCE CUMMINGS PIPER
Jim O'Connor of Boston Blackthorne emailed a photo: "Hi Marc -hope you had a fabulous holiday!
Boston Blackthorne played 3 nights in Western MA, centered around St Patrick’s Day as well as the big parade (the nation’s oldest) in Holyoke MA.We played to crowded enthusiastic fans in Northampton MA and Holyoke MA.But perhaps the best gig (and story) was the one that arose spontaneously back in the lobby of our hotel after our St Pat’s evening show.
The hotel lobby is most frequently empty but this night is was crowded with about 100 boisterous folks from Minnesota, visiting Massachusetts to support a Women’s college Hockey team.
We were approached by the unofficial spokesperson who pointed at our guitar and fiddle and asked, “Can you really play those?”
I answered of course we can, and this is your lucky night! Not only has your party been invaded by musicians, we are an Irish band and this is St Patrick’s Day! We proceeded to unpack our instruments and did a set of singalongs like Charlie on the MTA for the Boston connection.Halfway through the set our wives came into the lobby -my wife grumbled to Pete’s wife, “This party is going to keep us up all night!”Pete’s wife Maureen looked a little closer and exclaimed, “Hey that’s Jim and Pete in the center of it all!”They joined the fray, we had the best gig of the year playing for this group of strangers from the Midwest, wonderful folks who doubtless went home with a great tale and the definition of the work “Craic!”

Nov 9 2022
Yes, Nov 9th, again. It’s the end of the day though…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Was going to head to Victoria and play with a potential drummer today, but he had to reschedule. Oh well. As is made evident from the previous entry of the same day, I spent the day doing basically nothing. It was nice. I went to beach access down Stephenson and sat in the warm sun, and thought.
This evening, I talked with Izzy, she came over and did some pictures for work, I instinctually helped.
Every time I see Izzy, or some cozy relic from our relationship, I cry. I’ve cried everyday since Saturday. Not like brutal sobbing, but a decent 10-20 second cry, like a little burst. I think about hanging out, going to London Drugs, or to the movies, or just boopin around with her and it fills me with sadness, like I miss it.
When we talk in person, or on the phone, the dam breaks, and I cry. Again, short substantial bursts. I want to help her, and carry her stuff. I want her to be happy, and for the most part she’s doing good, which makes me feel better.
When she was here this evening, I gave her hugs and stuff and we (somewhat irritatingly) acted normal. Things felt okay.
What do I want? There’s a half of the relationship that I love, as mentioned, but there’s a half that leaves me unfulfilled. No sex, intimacy, mindless fun, desire. The fruit hangs ripe another another tree, pulling me away.
If I am completely honest with myself, I don’t think I’ll ever be happy with Izabel if those things don’t change. I can’t live sexually hungry, I am a demon. She would have to miraculously change her vibe in that way to get my full attention. But I fear she has already gotten bored of banging for fun, before I came around. Her health stuff doesn’t help.
But I also fear not finding somebody who fills that gap, but also likes hanging out with me and vice versa. Izzy and spent so much idle time together, and when we weren’t together, we knew what the other was doing. That lack of complexity is nice.
Izzy wants to be with me, and in a non-insane way. That is valuable. But I can’t appreciate it when I basically can’t regularly confirm we can make babies. Lol.
The sexual problems probably also play into not being comfortable projecting into the future with her, because she doesn’t feel like my sexual partner.
I dunno.
What if I met somebody who fit the bill, suddenly. Hot, wanted me, confident in us, certain but calm, simple, useful, smart, unpredictable, interesting, loyal. How would feel then? I’d feel like I was leaving Izzy behind… the thought is saddening.
Yeah… I guess Izzy has just lost power over my sexuality, and the pull and focus it would have over our relationship. Imagine if we were banging regularly… that and her just being nicer (which would likely accompany the latter)… I couldn’t see much else clogging our pipes.
I dunno, I just want to feel like girl and boy…
I’ve felt so much loss this year, something I suppose is normal. The band dissolving was the death of a rich future I envisioned for myself (one that of course isn’t necessarily dependant on those who were involved).
I think back to my teenage years as I swelled with hope and confidence for the future. My vision was to be a philosopher-politician-artist who would engineer a new way of life and use the volume of my guitar to call out to the world to gather. I would be an explorer and a creator of beauty, to enrich the culture of my generation and help people toward a better life, and the future of humanity as a whole. I daydreamed of glory and scribbled utopias. I practiced city building in Minecraft. Past that, I can’t remember much, perhaps there isn’t much else to remember. My imagination was untethered as it had experienced so little.
Y’know if Jordan Petersen was a rockstar who was starting a new utopian country… I think my teenage self would have met it’s match. Lol. I really do admire JP’s way of putting things so nicely and so accurately. It’s like a superpower. People would follow that guy into hell. I have a talent for music and digging around in my head.
I feel like the stage-bus was a manifestation of this inflated teenage save-the-world thing. It was great. It was an act of love playing on there, because we got almost nothing in return, other than attention.
I feel like creating my songs was more satisfying when I felt that there was more wrong with the world; more for me to fix in my youthful narcissism.
What would I be sad if I didn’t do by the end of life? Not making music, a good heap of it. Thoroughly enjoying the streets of some of Earth’s most beautiful towns. Painting a impressionistic landscape. Making a bowl or a cup out of clay. Building a house. Camping lots. Playing music for a massive crowd.

One of the most typical Romantic era fashion details I know of is the big, quadratic belt buckle women wore to emphasis their waist.
After some decades of a raised waistline and column-like silhouette, narrow waists once again came into fashion, helped by a new hourglass shaped corset that further underlined the shape. And the big buckle was the the finishing detail, the exclamation point. Here’s some examples.
“Portrait of a Woman”, 1831, by Miklós Barabas (unknown location)
“Portrait of Eleonore Thulstrup”, early 19th century, by Jacob Munch (Oslo Museum, OB.00484)
“Portrait of Christine Kemp Keilhau”, 1835, by Johan Görbitz (Oslo Museum, OB.00258)
Ribbon belt and golden buckle on a pigeon blue dress, 1830s (from Cora Ginsburg auctions)
Golden buckle, 1827 (private collection)
“Portrait of Juliane Elise Larpent”, 1827, by Aument (Linderud gård, Oslo). Here she is wearing the very buckle seen in photo 5.
Golden buckle and belt made of the same fabric as the dress, 1830-34 (Victoria and Albert Museum, London, T.168&A-1915)
“Portrait of Henriette Hansen”, 1831, by Richter W. (Oslo Museum, OB.00049)
“Portrait of Paula Schedius”, 1834, by Carl Rahl (unknown location)

In 2023, we’re going on a Celtic Invasion of County Mayo in Ireland. We’re gonna explore the area and get to know Grace O’Malley, the Pirate Queen. Learn more about the invasion at http://celticinvasion.com/

This is similar to the A-Z collages, but, there are new characters that I added to unify this piece of fanart.
