Let’s discuss Best Friends because I’m so mad.
Best Friends (Trent & Chuck) have only won 5 matches as a tag team in 2023. None of them were on Dynamite or Collision, and only one was against non-jobber opponents.
April 19 (ROH) vs Joe Ocasio & Mookie Summers
March 23 (Rampage) vs Kings of the Black Throne (Malakai Black & Brody King)
March 8 (Elevation) vs Olumide & Starboy Charlie
February 8 (Elevation) vs Aydan Colt & Frank Stone
January 4 (Elevation) vs Chaos Project (Serpentico & Luther)
They’ve lost 6. All were against non-jobber opponents.
April 12 (Rampage) vs Aussie Open
May 24 (Rampage) vs Big Bill & Lee Moriarty
July 26 (Dynamite) (Three Way) vs Lucha Bros, BCC
August 3 (Rampage) vs BCC
August 30 (Rampage) (Tag Team Battle Royal)
September 20 (Rampage) (Four Way) vs The Righteous, The Hardys, The Kingdom
September 30 (Collision) vs The Kingdom
As a trio (with Orange Cassidy, Rocky Romero, Bandido, or Danhausen) they have won exactly 2. Both were on dark matches against SAP.
January 2 (Elevation) w/Orange Cassidy vs Spanish Announce Project (Luther & Serpentico) & Zack Clayton
May 3 (Dynamite - Dark Match) w/Rocky Romero vs Nick Comoroto & Spanish Announce Project (Serpentico & Angelico)
As a trio, they have lost 6, all against non-jobber opponents.
January 25 (Rampage) w/Danhausen vs Jay Lethal, Jeff Jarrett, and Satnam Singh
April 5 (Dynamite) w/Orange Cassidy vs House of Black
May 10 (Dynamite) w/Bandido vs House of Black
May 17 (Rampage) w/Bandido vs BCC
June 7 (Dynamite) w/Rocky Romero vs BCC
June 14 (Rampage) w/Rocky Romero vs United Empire (Jeff Cobb, Kyle Fletcher, Will Ospreay)
As a team of four or five, they have won 6. None of these were on Dynamite or Rampage, and only one was against non-jobber opponents.
February 15 (Elevation) w/Dark Order (Alex Reynolds, Evil Uno, John Silver) vs The Butcher & The Blade and The Firm (Ethan Page, Isiah Kassidy, Matt Hardy)
April 7 (Rampage - Dark Match) w/The Firm (Isiah Kassidy, Matt Hardy) vs Kip Sabian, The Butcher and The Blade, and Zack Clayton
April 26 (ROH) w/Action Andretti, Darius Martin, and Stu Grayson vs The Kingdom & The Varsity Athletes
August 27 (All In - Stadium Stampede) w/Orange Cassidy, Eddie Kingston, and Penta el Zero Miedo vs BCC, Santana, and Ortiz
September 2 (ROH) w/Action Andretti and Darius Martin vs The Outrunners and The Workhorseman
October 4 (Rampage) w/The Hardys vs Angelo Parker, Matt Menard, Daniel Garcia, and Jake Hager
As a team of four or five, they have lost two.
June 21 (Rampage) w/Rocky Romero and YOH vs Swerve Strickland and United Empire (Jeff Cobb, Kyle Fletcher, Will Ospreay)
June 25 (Forbidden Door - Zero Hour) w/Rocky Romero and El Desperado vs The Mogul Embassy
Their overall record in 2023 is 13-14
Which is piss poor for a tag team that has been with AEW since the beginning, and has been extremely over with the fans for all four years, especially since almost all of their wins this year have been on Rampage, Elevation, or ROH against jobbers. Against almost all of the opponents of significance, they’ve lost.
Stop. Treating. Best. Friends. Like. Jobbers.

In and Out
I'll write this while I wait for All Out to start. I really expected the Punk/Perry suspension to drag on for weeks, just like the Punk/Elite situation from Brawl Out '22. But apparently Brawl In '23 was a much simpler case, because Tony Khan announced CM Punk's termination just in time for the start of Collision five days later.
There's a lot of different accounts of what happened backstage at All In, and apparently the incident was caught on security cameras, but I have a feeling we won't learn the full truth for a long time. I wouldn't say Jack Perry comes out of this smelling like a rose, but it sounds like no version of events makes Punk look good at all. Like, good for him because he wanted to prevent Perry from doing a spot with real glass, but it's hard to believe he was worried about Perry's well-being when the story ends with him choking out Perry backstage.
I probably haven't heard all of the stories, but I've heard enough to get the picture that Punk was keeping certain talent away from Collision shows, like Collision is his own personal kingdom. Hangman Page can't tape a segment during a Collision show. Ryan Nemeth can't be on Collision because he dunked on Punk on Twitter. I guess some of the women couldn't appear on Collision for some reason or another? I have no idea what the agenda was except that it was Punk making all these decisions. Apparently Jack Perry's glass spot was approved by AEW then countermanded by Punk. Then Perry does a different glass spot at All In and Punk gets mad enough to fight him.
The whole thing just makes it sound like Punk wanted to have authority in AEW, and maybe he got some, but he got upset at even the slightest sign of defiance. On the Collision premiere, he told the fans they could like him or hate him, and say whatever they wanted about him. A few weeks later, he spotted a "Punk fears Hangman" sign in the crowd and cut a promo burying Hangman. For a hot minute, I was excited that this might be an early sign of a Punk vs. Elite program on the horizon, but no. Later, it came to light that Punk had no clearance to do this, and he later texted an apology to Hangman for what he said. I guess he had been hoping to set up a Punk/Elite program in the future and wanted to keep the flame flickering, but that's stupid. Stunts like that just make guys like Hangman want to work with him less. It's becoming clear to me that he only went off on that sign because it pissed him off and he couldn't let it go.
Seriously, why would the Elite want to work a program with CM Punk? Hangman dropped the world title to CM Punk, and then he did that segment where he called out Hangman without authorization. Then Punk whined to Sports Illustrated about how Hanger's punches were too stiff. Then he foiled that segment taping during a Collision show. Then he cut the action figures promo after Collision went off the air. Why would Hangman ever want to work with this guy again? He's still getting receipts for the first time.
The only arguments for putting up with Punk's bullshit are financial. He's a draw. He moves merch. I saw someone on Twitter last week arguing that Punk should be allowed to remain with AEW his merch outsells Elite merch like five times over. If they ever did a Punk/Elite match, it would make tons of money. Okay, sure. But the argument makes it sound like AEW should just put up with any bad behavior from this guy, simply because he's too profitable. Where does it end? Is Punk allowed to choke out Jack Perry simply because he's popular? If he became more popular, would that mean he could do even worse things to people? If Jack Perry suddenly became more popular, would that magically put him in the right?
The thing I noticed watching AEW this week is that Chicago isn't that upset about Punk's absence. The 8/31 Dynamite was in Chicago, and there didn't seem to be any reaction to Punk's suspension. Punk's firing was announced at the 9/2 Collision, and the crowd was rowdy during Khan's speech, and a CM Punk chant broke out during the Young Bucks run-in at the end of the show, but it was a lot weaker than I expected.
Now I'm about 45 minutes into this All Out pre-show, and I haven't heard any CM Punk chants at all. We'll see if that holds, but I think if Chicago were that pissed about Punk's firing, they would have already let us know. Either AEW's production crew got really good at sweetening the crowd noise, or Chicago's AEW fanbase has begun to move on. I don't know if they've just given up, or they've decided that Brawl In was a bridge too far. They might still be loyal to Punk, and they may even feel he's in the right, but what can they expect Tony Khan to do?
In the end, it just feels like Punk in AEW was never going to work. People quote that "Fragile mind" promo by Moxley, or that thing Triple H said about him back in WWE, but the bottom line is that they basically gave this guy a lot of concessions and it still wasn't enough. If they let Brawl In slide after everything else, then what was going to happen next?
The only real sympathy for Punk I can muster in all of this is that it does suck how his travel arrangements got screwed up at Wembly. I don't know if that was an Elite conspiracy or just an innocent mistake, but that sounds pretty bush league for a promotion bragging about holding the biggest show ever. And I guess I feel bad for Punk's dog last year, but if you pick fights with your dog in the room, your dog might get hurt. If you pick fights with your boss in the room, your boss might fire you. That's how real life works.
People are already saying he'll go back to WWE, or go to Impact, like he couldn't have done that years ago. The whole point of him going to AEW was to be part of this big promotion that was presented as an alternative to WWE and all the things he hated about WWE. People say "Never say never", but if Punk does sign with WWE I've got no sympathy for whatever bullshit he has to put up with there. I was happy for the guy when he left in 2014. It seemed like he'd never wrestle again, but so what? He was retiring at 35, five world title reigns, he got the money, got the girl, why screw that up?
Anyway, All Out's starting, so I'd better wrap this up. I hope Punk never goes near a wrestling ring again, and I hope Chicago can find solace in AEW running Punk-free shows in their town 875 times a year.

AEW Dynamite 2/8/23
WELCOME TO THE MJF SHOW.
MJF vs. Konosuke Takeshita -- MJF offers his hand to Takeshita. Takeshita hesitantly shakes it, and MJF pulls Takeshita in and nails him in the midsection with a kick. Flying elbow by Takeshita! Jumping knee by Takeshita! Takeshita goes for a running knee, but MJF pulls the ref in the way to prevent it. MJF lays in knees to Takeshita's arm, then slings him hard, flipping him into the turnbuckles! MJF slams Takeshita's arm down into the mat, then locks Takeshita's arm in a hold! MJF then lands a beautiful hammerlock DDT!!!! Takeshita lands an exploder suplex into corner, followed by two big helluva kicks!!!!! Takeshita goes for a third, but MJF moves out of the way and rolls Takeshita up! Takeshita kicks out!! Takeshita with a brainbuster, MJF kicks out!! Takeshita lands a huge frog splash off the top on MJF, all the way into the middle of the ring!!!! Incredible distance!! MJF kicks out!! MJF goes for a Tombstone, but Takeshita reverses into a driver with the legs trapped, then deadlifts MJF and rotates back into a German suplex!!!! Beautiful!!!!!!! Outside the ring, Takeshita runs MJF hard into the ring post!! You deserve it chant, loool. Back in the ring, Takeshita goes to the top, and MJF grabs the top rope to take Takeshita off his feet!!! MJF goes to the top. Takeshita lands a huge lariat off the top, but MJF lands on his feet!!! BEAUTIFUL!!! Thrust kick by MJF!!! Elbow by Takeshita!! GORGEOUS rebound rolling elbow by MJF!!!!! Huge lariat by Takeshita!!!! DAMN!!! Cover by Takeshita, but MJF kicks out and transitions smoothly into Salt of the Earth!!! MJF bites Takeshita's fingers!!! Takeshita reverses into a pinning combination, but MJF kicks out!!! Takeshita sends MJF to the outside and follows with a topé con giro!!! Back in the ring, Takeshita pulls his knee pad down and goes for a running knee strike, but MJF rolls out of the ring to avoid it! Takeshita follows. Takeshita is back in the ring first. As MJF climbs on the apron, he pulls the ref between himself and Takeshita to bait Takeshita in, then kicks Takeshita's arm on the second rope! Takeshita is lying on the mat now, and MJF drives his knees into Takeshita's arm!! MJF misses a knee drop! Thumb to Takeshita's eye by MJF, and Takeshita reponds with a huge slap to the face!!! BEAUTIFUL elbows by Takeshita!!! Thumb to the eye again by MJF!!! Takeshita goes for a hurricanrana, but MJF catches him in midair and lands a powerbomb on the knee!!! Blue Thunder Bomb by Takeshita, but MJF kicks out!!! Takeshita lands a beautiful knee strike and covers, but MJF gets his foot onto the bottom rope!!! Takeshita goes for a springboard moonsault, but MJF rolls out of the way and locks in Salt of the Earth! Takeshita gets close to the rope! MJF pulls him into the middle of the ring and locks the armbar back in deep, bridging into it!!!! Takeshita taps!!!!!
THIS ABSOLUTELY ROCKED!!!!!! GREAT MATCH!!! BOTH GUYS WERE INCREDIBLE HERE! Great arm work by MJF. Fantastic all around wrestling by Takeshita. Rating: 4
MJF hits Takeshita with the Dynamite Diamond Ring after the match, then lays in right hands! Danielson comes out to make the save, and MJF runs away once again.
Jamie Hayter vs. The Bunny -- Neck breaker over the second rope by The Bunny. Suplex by The Bunny on the outside, driving Hayter's legs into the ring steps! Hayter gets the pinfall with an exploder suplex (yikes landing) and a ripcord lariat. This was short but solid. Rating: 2
FIRE MJF PROMO ALERT!!!!!! He says Takeshita is no match for a generational talent like himself, but nobody is. He says Danielson and these people treat him like he is some kind of scumbag. He doesn’t know if these people hate him because he is twisted, or if he became twisted because the people hate him. But he does know that a man doesn’t know what he is truly made of until he is met with adversity. He remembers the first time he was. It was junior year of high school. He was a speed demon in his blue Camaro, getting ticket after ticket until he was one point away from getting his license revoked. Then it was junior prom. He took his date for a drive in his Blue Camaro. It was raining that night, they hydroplaned, and they went spinning off the road. He panicked and hit the gas instead of the brakes, and they hit a telephone pole at 90 miles per hour. When he came to, he was concussed and confused. He looked down and his hands were covered in blood. His date’s head had hit the windshield, and she wasn’t moving. He put his finger under her nose, and thank god, she was still breathing. In the distance he heard police sirens. There it was. Adversity. And he found out what type of man he is. “I’m the type of guy who grabbed Liv’s lifeless body and switched seats with her, so when the cops showed up, I wasn’t the one driving. In this life, there are winners and there are losers. The history books don’t care how you get the job done. You want to talk about exposing me, Dragon? Tonight, I expose you. You will be met with adversity, and everybody watching at home will know that you don’t have the guts, you don’t have the temerity, you don’t have the balls to do what it takes to be a winner. There will be no match on March 5th at Revolution. There will be no iron man match. And you will never, ever come close to holding the grandest prize of them all, the Triple B. Because yes, Bryan, I am a scumbag, and I’m damn proud of it.”  OH MY GOD!!!!!!! I AM LOSING MY MIND HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excalibur: “It is official. The AEW World Champion MJF is the worst person in the world.”
Ricky Starks vs. Angelo Parker/Matt Menard/Daniel Garcia Gauntlet Match -- Starks beats Parker in a few minutes with a spear, then rolls up Menard in a few seconds. His next opponent is Garcia. Spear attempt by Starks is countered into a guillotine by Garcia! Starks reverses the guillotine into a sit-out powerbomb! Superplex by Garica! Brainbuster by Starks! Strike exchange on the apron! Spear by Starks on the apron! Jericho lands a Judas Effect from the front row of the crowd, dressed as a fan in a mask. Garcia rolls Starks into the ring and gets the pinfall. This was fine for what it was. There wasn’t much to the first two falls, but Starks and Garcia were good. Rating: 2.75
Danielson and Takeshita are backstage with Renee. The door to the room they are in shuts. Danielson cannot open the door. They are locked in. Rush's music plays in the background. We go into the arena, where Rush is making his entrance. Then out comes MJF. He tells the ref that Danielson isn't here, so she has to ring the bell and start the 10 count. She calls for the bell and starts an extremely slow count, as Danielson is shown breaking down the door with his shoulder backstage. He makes it in the ring before 10!
MJF on commentary!!!! Hallelujah!!! He comments on Aubrey's slow count. "Did she barely graduate pre-K? What was that?" MJF: "Now I have to sit next to this dumb, fat, worthless turd, Tony Schiavone." MJF on Danielson: "This guy almost didn't make it to his own match. He's lazy. He's an embarrassment." MJF to Schiavone: "Tony, how about I pay you 500,000 dollars to get lost and get out of this business?" Tony tells MJF that his friend Taz was crapping all over him after his story backstage earlier. MJF: "If anybody is crapping, it's you, right in your diapers." Lmaooo. He is an endless well of gold.
Bryan Danielson vs. Rush -- Rush absolutely destroys Danielson for minutes on end, throwing him around on the outside, slamming his arm into the barricade! Danielson is bleeding from the head!!! They exchange some strikes on the apron, and this ends with a huge overhead throw from Rush, just hurling Danielson off the apron to the floor! Damn!!! Back in the ring, Danielson goes for the LeBell Lock, but can't get it locked in because of his injured shoulder. Topé from Danielson to Rush on the outside!!! Danielson slings Rush into the barricade, then lands a running dropkick!!! Back in the ring, Danielson lands a missile dropkick from the top!! Round kicks by Danielson!!! HARD exchange of chops!!!!! Stomps in the corner by Rush!!! Two corner dropkicks by Danielson!! He goes for a third, and Rush intercepts with a flying elbow!!! Straightjacket piledriver by Rush!!!! Oh my god!!!!!! Cover, but Danielson kicks out!!! Elbows in the corner by Rush!!! Psycho knee by Danielson!!! Rush kicks out!! Vicious elbow exchange!!! Chops by Rush! Headbutt by Danielson!! Rush responds with a headbutt of his own, but Danielson won't go down! They both lay in headbutt after headbutt to each other at the same time!! Huge palm strike by Rush finally takes Danielson off his feet!! German suplex by Rush, but Danielson rolls through up to his feet!!! Psycho knee by Danielson lands!!! Cover by Danielson!! 1, 2, 3!!!!!
WHAT A MATCH!!!! DISGUSTINGLY VIOLENT AND AGGRESSIVE, I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT. Rating: 4.25
MJF comes to the ring to nail Danielson with the Dynamite Diamond Ring after the match!! MJF with a series of right hands, then locks in the Salt of the Earth!! Security comes out to pry him off of Danielson, but he won't let go!!!
The Elite (c) vs. Top Flight and AR Fox for the AEW World Trios Championship -- Huge, beautiful backbreaker from Omega to Darius!!! Spanish Fly from Darius to Matt! Rolling cutter from Fox to Omega, then two more cutters from Fox for Matt and Nick! Rapid-fire offense by AR Fox – topé to the Bucks, topé to Omega, topé con giro to the Bucks, then a senton from the top to Omega!!!!! Fox covers, but Omega kicks out! Dante with incredible agility to avoid the Bucks' offense. Locomotion Northern Lights suplexes from Matt to Dante! Double Northern Lights into a pinning combo on all three guys by Matt!!! Kick out!! Assisted DDT from Top Flight to Nick. Cover on Nick, but Matt breaks it up! Springboard moonsault-assisted powerbomb by Top Flight, then 450 from the top by Fox on Nick!!! Cover on Nick, but Omega slides in the ring to make the save at 2.9! Snap dragon suplex from Omega to Fox! Slingshot flatliner by Darius! Superkick and Sliced Bread by Matt! Assisted piledriver from the Elite to Fox!! Cover on Fox, but Top Flight make the save!  Fox ducks a V-trigger attempt, and rolls up Omega! Omega kicks out! Jumping knee strike followed by a beautiful gut wrench sit-out powerbomb from Omega to Fox!!!  Kick out!! Omega lands the V-trigger on Fox!!!! Omega goes for the One-Winged Angel, but Fox reverses into a roll up! Omega kicks out! Fox ducks a strike attempt by Omega and handsprings back up to his feet! Omega ducks an enziguri by Fox!!! Omega with a crucifix pinning combo on Fox, but Fox kicks out!! Crucifix by Omega on Fox again!!! 1, 2, 3!!! The Elite retain!
Fantastic match with nonstop action!!!! The Elite were as great as ever, and Fox especially looked great here!!! Top Flight are really finding their footing as well. Rating: 4
The Acclaimed (c) vs. The Gunns for the AEW World Tag Team Championship -- Rolling elbow from Bowens misses its mark and takes out the ref! While the ref is down, the Gunns go for the belts to use as a weapon, but Billy comes out to stop it. The Gunns hit Billy in the face with the belt! Rolling elbow and Arrival by Bowens, Mic Drop by Caster, but the ref is still down outside. Caster puts the ref back in the ring, and he starts a late count. Of course, kick out by the Gunns. A roll up by Bowens gets a slow two count. The Gunns take a title belt to the face of Bowens and roll him up for the pinfall. New champs.
I didn't care for anything about this really. It was just an okay match. And even though I personally am not the biggest fan, I truly don’t understand taking the belts off the Acclaimed, as hot as they are. And I really, really don’t understand putting them on the Gunns, who I don’t think are remotely ready for that. Rating: 2

NJPW + AEW Forbidden Door PPV in Chicago 6/26/2022; NJPW Golden Fight Series Night 3 - 4/20/2022; Dragon Gate The Gate of Passion 2022 Night 11 - 4/21/2022: Gamma Retiring, Shisa Leaving DG; GLEAT G PROWRESTLING Ver.23 - 4/20/2022: Shingo Appearing on 5/18/2022 Show
Tumblr media
New Japan Pro Wrestling
Let’s be honest, the biggest news for NJPW right now came last night on AEW Dynamite. AEW owner Tony Khan and NJPW president Takami Ohbari were on hand for the announcement, which was actually made by both Adam Cole and Jay White, for a joint NJPW X AEW show called Forbidden Door, a PPV event from the United Center in Chicago on Sunday 6/26/2022. Of course, this is exactly my area, so yes I am planning to be there. It will be on PPV on Bleacher Report Live in the USA, NJPWWorld in Japan and FITE TV elsewhere.
Tickets go on sale 5/6/2022. No matches have been announced yet, but there are several possibilities (my dream match being the least likely, sadly).
This will be the biggest NJPW show in America since the pandemic; we still don’t know what, if anything, will ever become of the planned Wrestle Dynasty show that was supposed to take place in Madison Square Garden that the pandemic scuppered.
Also, Adam Cole v. Tomohiro Ishii will happen on this Friday’s edition of AEW Rampage (that I think already happened last night).
More announcements about this as they come.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, the Golden Fight Series tour continued yesterday. It was not shown live, but is now available on NJPWWorld.
- 4/20/2022, Tokyo Korakuen Hall (Tape delay on NJPWWorld)
Kosei Fujita d. Yuto Nakashima (Boston Crab, 9:42)
Yoshinobu Kanemaru, DOUKI, Zack Sabre Jr. & TAKA Michinoku [SZKG] d. Ryusuke Taguchi, Master Wato, Tomoaki Honma & Tiger Mask IV (Sabre > Honma, Triangle Choke, 9:49)
Yujiro Takahashi & SHO [Bullet Club] d. Tanga Loa & Jado [GoD] (SHO > Jado, pinfall, 9:45)
Hirooki Goto [CHAOS], YOSHI-HASHI [CHAOS], Togi Makabe & Toru Yano [CHAOS] d. Bad Luck Fale, Chase Owens, Taiji Ishimori & Gedo [Bullet Club] (YOSHI-HASHI > Gedo, Shoto, 8:46)
Taichi & El Desperado [SZKG] d. Shingo Takagi & BUSHI [Los Ingobernables] (Taichi > BUSHI, Black Mephisto, 12:10)
Tama Tonga [GoD] & Hiroshi Tanahashi d. EVIL & Dick Togo [Bullet Club] (Tonga > Togo, Gunstun, 9:56)
Kazuchika Okada & YOH [CHAOS] d. Tetsuya Naito & Hiromu Takahashi [Los Ingobernables] (YOH > Hiromu, Direct Drive, 18:13)
YOH demanded a singles match against Hiromu for Wrestling Dontaku 2022 on 5/1/2022 in Fukuoka, which has now been added to the card. BUSHI will take Hiromu’s place in the 6-man tag with Shingo and Tatsumi Fujinami going against Suzuki-gun. Speaking of Shingo, he and Taichi both proposed their stipulations for the KOPW2022 match on Monday 4/25/2022 – Taichi wants a “30-count match,” where you have to pin your opponent for 30 counts on aggregate to win. Shingo offered a “Takagi-Style Three Fall Match,” where you have to pin your opponent for three falls, but the first fall is a 1-count, second is a 2-count, and then the 3-count for the last one. Taichi’s is currently winning the polling which ends on Saturday 4/23/2022.
Looking ahead on NJPWWorld, two wrestler anniversary shows are taking place on the platform soon, both as Y3000 PPVs. TAKA Michinoku is celebrating 30 years as a wrestler with a TAKA & Taichi Mania 2.5 show on 5/6/2022 from Korakuen Hall. From the poster art, it looks like Jun Kasai will be there as well as the other Suzuki-gun juniors. Also at Korakuen Hall, on 5/12/2022, will be a Tatsumi Fujinami 50th Anniversary event that advertises Shingo Takagi, Hiromu Takahashi and Yuji Nagata from NJPW, but also wrestlers as varied as Yoshiaki Fujiwara, Masakatsu Funaki, BJW’s Yuji OKabayashi, and KAZMA SAKAMOTO among others. These are actual PPV events, not sure if or when they will be available for free on NJPWWorld.
The tour continues tomorrow through the weekend, with shows that will not be streamed, but all have Elimination Match main events, so there’s a chance those mains will end up on VOD? It’s been known to happen.
- 4/22/2022, Osaka EDION Arena Subarena

Ryusuke Taguchi, Master Wato, Tomoaki Honma & Tiger Mask IV v. Yoshinobu Kanemaru, DOUKI, Zack Sabre Jr. & TAKA Michinoku

Dragon Gate
The Gate of Passion 2022 tour resumed today, with a show that was streamed live on Dragon Gate Network. Some news and announcements came from this show as well.
The Gate of Passion 2022 Night 11 - 4/21/2022, Hyogo Kobe Royal Sanbo Hall (DG Network)
BxB Hulk & HYO [Z-Brats] d. U-T & Jacky “Funky” Kamei [Natural Vibes] (HYO > Kamei, Black Panther Clutch, 8:48)
Mondai Ryu, Yosuke Santa Maria & La Estrella d. Punch Tominaga, Ho Ho Lun & Ishin Iihashi (Yosuke > Ishin, Neraiuchi, 3:11)
Eita & Strong Machine J d. Kagetora & Keisuke Okuda [HIGH-END] (J > Okuda, Machine Suplex, 9:21)
Masaaki Mochizuki, Don Fujii, Genki Horiguchi [Natural Vibes] & Yasushi Kanda d. Dragon Kid [HIGH-END], Super Shisa, Konomama Ichikawa & Shachihoko Boy (Fujii > Ichikawa, Sleeper Hold, 8:38)
Kota Minoura, Naruki Doi & Kaito Ishida [Gold Class] d. Shuji Kondo, Takashi Yoshida & Takuma Fujiwara (Minoura > Fujiwara, R-301, 12:41)
Royal Sanbo Battle Royale: Jason Lee d. YAMATO [HIGH-END], Ben-K [HIGH-END], Kzy [Natural Vibes], Susumu Yokosuka [Natural Vibes], KAI [Z-Brats], SB KENTo [Z-Brats], Shun Skywalker [Z-Brats], Diamante [Z-Brats], Dragon Dia [D’Courage] & Yuki Yoshioka (Lee > Dia, Crucifix Hold, 20:29)
This was Dragon Dia’s first loss of any kind since he lost his mask back in December, and then would win both the Open The Brave and Twin Gate titles within 24 hours in January. Of course there was fuckery by Shun Skywalker to get here, as he continues to torment Jason Lee. YAMATO and Kzy both declared they would win the rights for Jason Lee on Monday at Korakuen Hall.
Shun then goaded Dia into accepting the Open The Twin Gate challenge at Dead Or Alive on 5/5/2022, so now Dia will have to defend the Brave Gate against SB KENTo, AND the Twin Gate with Yuki Yoshioka against Shun & Diamante. Ryo Saito tried to talk him out of it, but Dia insisted. Shun then asked why he’s still called Dragon Dia now that he is unmasked.
Susumu Yokosuka demanded to know the stipulation for the Open The Dream Gate title match at Dead Or Alive, but KAI said he would reveal it on Monday instead. Hip Hop Kikuta reiterated he will not be joining Z-Brats when he returns at Dead Or Alive. Strong Machine J getting a bit of a push here.
It was announced that both Super Shisa and Gamma would be leaving Dragon Gate at the end of this month. Shisa, who’s spent most of his career in Toryumon/Dragon Gate, looks to wrestle elsewhere as he recovers from injuries. Gamma, who started in Osaka Pro and joined DG in 2006, will be retiring. It was thought the opposite might happen, with Gamma rejoining the new Osaka Pro, but instead Gamma will be holding his own retirement show on 8/14/2022 in Izumi City Plaza.
DG take tomorrow off, and hold house shows Saturday and Sunday, before Monday’s Korakuen Hall outing that should maybe settle this whole Jason Lee business.

GLEAT
GLEAT held their second show inside of a week yesterday at Tokyo Shinjuku FACE, that had a guest appearance from Ryo Mizunami, late of AEW. This one is on YouTube.
GLEAT G PROWRESTLING Ver.23 - 4/20/2022, Tokyo Shinjuku FACE (YouTube)
Shigehiro Irie & Masato Kamino d. Minoru Tanaka & Yu Iizuka (Irie > Iizuka, Beast Bomber, 11:47)

1 Count Fall, 5 Count Ring-Out, No Escape Special Rule Match: Nobuhiro Shimatani [BULK Orchestra] d. CIMA [#STRONGHEARTS] (Gyakuuchi, 3:56)
Takanori Ito d. Soma Watanabe (German Suplex Hold, 15:04)
3-Way Trios Match: Ryuichi Kawakami, Hayato Tamura & Quiet Storm [BULK Orchestra] d. El Lindaman, T-Hawk & Issei Onitsuka [#STRONGHEARTS] and Tetsuya Izuchi, Keiichi Sato & Jun Tonsho [60 Seconds] (Tamura > Onitsuka, Jackhammer, 21:54)
Shimatani challenged for the G-REX title, however Shigehiro Irie said he was the rightful next challenger to El Lindaman. So, a #1 contender’s match will be taking please between Shimatani v. Irie, at a date to be determined.
Shingo Takagi will be participating in GLEAT’s G PROWRESTLING Ver.25 show 5/18/2022 from Tokyo Korakuen Hall, teaming with CIMA in a special 25th Anniversary match for CIMA as a wrestler. This is… interesting, as I was under the impression that tensions between CIMA and Shingo were part of the reason Shingo left Dragon Gate in 2018. Maybe time does heal all wounds, or maybe I was misinformed. One of the two.
GLEAT’s next show that I can see booked is 5/3/2022 from Osaka.
Other News
Tomoya Hirata & Toru Sugiura retained the King Of FREEDOM Tag Team titles today against Daisuke Masaoka & Kamui in a fluorescent light tube deathmatch at FREEDOMS’s show from Tokyo Shinkiba 1st-RING earlier today.
Marvelous, BJW, Ice Ribbon and Sportiva have all been active this week.
See you Sunday.
