IC Overview
name — Rita Skeeter faceclaim — Claire Holt, Caity Lotz, Emily Bett Rickards age — 25 gender — Cis- Female sexuality — Bisexual. Rita would probably never truly admit this, or at least not publicly. patronus — Cheetah boggart — Herself failing to achieve her dreams
IC In Depth
personality traits —
• Manipulative - Rita is seriously manipulative. She will come across as friendly but really just wants to know people’s secrets. Then she stores them in her amazing memory to be used in the future. She really uses her manipulative nature to keep people loyal to her, otherwise she will publish their secrets to the world
• Selfish ¬– Rita is very selfish. She has a lot of knowledge, especially about the Dark Lords return that could be especially useful to the ministry, but she is currently keeping it to herself. She wants to be on the winning side, and she knows this information is valuable. She is selfish, wanting to protect herself, so she is keeping this valuable information quiet, until she can work out how it will benefit her in the most
• Loyal – To a small chosen few Rita can be very loyal. These people mostly have to prove themselves useful to her, but Rita can love deeply, and will always be loyal to these people. They are small in number, but are precious to Rita
• Hard Working – Rita was always hard working. She loves a good social life, but she also worked hard to get where she was in the Daily Prophet. She was determined to get to be where she was, and wasn’t going to let anyone get in her way.
character biography
• Rita was born to a family that weren’t really that important. They are half blood, and weren’t really that important socially. Rita is the youngest of four siblings, and she’s the only girl. Her parents weren’t too focused on her, but she got by. • At Hogwarts Rita was sorted into Slytherin. She wasn’t really sure why, knowing that she was a half blood, and not really thinking she fitted in that much. But she kind of liked the benefits that she got. Rita learnt to be selfish, and she learnt to be manipulative. Soon, it didn’t matter that she wasn’t really a pureblood, because her attitude made up for what her blood lacked. • Whilst her family wasn’t that important socially, Rita tried to make up for that. Rita didn’t exactly care who she climbed over to get to the top. She just did it. She was determined person, and wanted better than what her parents could give her. They were pretty focused upon her brothers, so she was really given a free reign to do what she wanted. • Throughout school Rita didn’t really know what she wanted to do. None of the wizarding careers really caught her attention. It wasn’t till sixth year that she realised that her writing hobby could potentially become more. The blonde started reading the Daily Prophet cover to cover. Not for the news, she couldn’t care less about that. She rather wanted to learn all she could able journalism. • Upon graduating Hogwarts, with okay grades, she began an internship at the Daily Prophet. She was a low level journalist. But she loved it. Her writing was well received, and she was finally doing something she loved. • Then the war began. Rita was careful, and she didn’t pick a side. She didn’t want to be on the losing side, so was careful, and didn’t show allegiance to either side. She had to be careful with what she wrote, not wanting to risk getting hurt. It worked well, for she exited the war well. • Over the past five years she had really grown the ranks in the Daily Prophet, and Rita is currently working as a senior journalist. She’s free to write what she wants, and she loves it. • Her work has got her in a few sticky situations though, and her illegal animagus form isn’t helping. • It has though, allowed her to gain some valuable information about the death eaters. Although she isn’t sure what to do with it. She knows Voldemort’s return is inevitable…. But she just doesn’t know what side to join this time. But she knows this time she will have to make that choice.
plot ideas — These are just a few for starters 😊
Choosing a side – SOOO. First war she didn’t pick a side. But this time she really will have to pick one side or the other. So I think this will be really cool to explore, and see which side she will go too. She wants to be on the winning side, so will try to hold out till she can tell? But it would be cool to explore her maybe being forced to pick before she can work out who will win
Journalism/Daily Prophet – Rita loves a good gossip, so would be cool to get some drama maybe from something she wrote?
Knowledge of the prophecy – Rita overheard the prophecy, so it would be really interesting to see how she might react and do with the info. This might be key to her choosing a side, with her considering who might benefit from the info the most?
Friendships – So in her skeleton she’s linked to Amelia, but would be great to explore some friendships. Rita was a half blood slytherin so would be cool to explore her relationships with the other slytherins. She learnt to be manipulative and bitchy at school, so might be cool if one of her class mates was her mentor or similar?
Romance – Rita is bisexual, though she would never admit that. She would not be against a political marriage, especially to a pureblood, and she would really see it as a way of cementing her status. She’s attracted to both men and woman, and finds both exciting, and definitely enjoys sleeping around. But she definitely hold secrets/gossip about people’s heads, especially women, as she doesn’t want anyone to find out how promiscuous she actually is.
extra —
Headcanon – Rita’s never been in a serious relationship. She was more interested in her work. Of course, she wants to be loved, but until now, it hasn’t been too important to her. Now, she kind of sees it more as an investment in finding a solid social place for herself.
Rita’s animagus is Beetle.

“Hey, little sister,” Juwon’s voice finally rings through the discord, something about Siwon being too dumb to know how the difference between the audio and video icons and who came out of the birth canal first.
“You guys are way too lively for somebody who just woke up.”
Suwon quickly swipes the phone from Siwon, immediately prompting a squawking litany on the importance of abiding by seniority customs. Juwon can be seen massaging his temples in the background. “You sound just like an old man — just like these ugly geezers!”
Another squawk, probably from Siwon. Sowon shakes her head. “You better be glad I’m not there, then. Otherwise you’d be stuck with three geezers.”
There’s a beat of silence before he speaks again. “Maybe, but I’d rather have you here than not at all.”
She stifles the sudden urge to sob. “Yeah?”
In the dark of her room, through the glint of the screen, she sees three pairs of hopeful eyes. “Mm-hmm.”

“Leaving so soon?”
She starts, almost tripping over her own bra, but she manages. In every sense of the word. She doesn’t turn back.
“Yeah, I — I got a lot of work. To do. Need to study,” her words come out too fast for her liking. Too jumbled. It shouldn’t be — she shouldn’t be.
The mattress creaks as he rises from the nest of soiled sheets, eyes boring holes in the dip of her back. Her skin crawls. “Need any help with that…?”
(She might but she didn’t want him any closer.)
Sowon shakes her head — quickly, like she was expecting him to ask.
“I think y—”
“No!” She jumps. Finally faces him, this time. He’s still on the bed and he’s still smirking. As always. Somehow, she meets his gaze. “No, I — it’s fine. I’m fine. You can just,” she motions to the bed, arms outstretched, the rest of her dress pooling around her waist.
His eyes are searching hers, too hopeful to be nothing, but at least he stops moving.
“Noona, you should—”
“Should really get going,” she cuts him off, regaining some semblance of composure. Still good. “I should really get going.”
“You know you could just stay here.”
Sowon frowns. She somehow regrets giving him that.
His lips part again, but this time she’s fumbling with the doorknob, purse in hand and hair unruly but his presence is starting to make her feel sick and she reallyreallyneedstogetoutnow—
“I’ll see you tomorrow, Jihyun-ssi. Usual time. Don’t be late.”

Congrats, BEE, you have been accepted to AL for the role of DOLORES UMBRIDGE (FC:Olivia Taylor Dudley). OH MY GOODNESS, BEE! Your portrayal of Dolores was just stunning. I found myself laughing in places and gasping in others. You’ve really gotten into the head of a character that is just awful and played that out in a way that’s captivating. I can’t wait to see what chaos she brings to the dash! Please send in your blog (no sideblogs for first characters, please) in the next 24 hours and be sure to take a look at our new player checklist. Welcome home (once again), we’re so excited to have you join the family!
OOC
name — Bee age — 29 pronouns — She/her timezone — MST activity level — I have quite a bit of free time at the moment! I can usually manage being on for at least a little while every day and I’ll average a handful of replies a week at a minimum. any questions? —No questions per se, just a small disclaimer to let anyone reading know that I am a tolerant and open-minded individual, so while I’m excited for the creative challenge and entertainment of potentially writing an absolutely loathsome person like Ms. Dolores Jane Umbridge, anything offensive that she says or thinks or does IC does not reflect my own personal views!
IC Overview
name — Dolores Jane Umbridge—but my friends call me Lo, at least they would if I had any FRIENDS. -hold for laughter- Yeah, eat your fucking hearts out all you moronic lowlife swine. Hem hem. faceclaim — Olivia Taylor Dudley, Jenna Coleman, Mae Whitman age — 32 gender — Cis-female, and uncomfortably cutesy girly-girl for a woman over thirty. Hyperfemme caricature with BDE. Never met a shade of pink she didn’t just love.
sexuality — Outwardly, all Dolores cares about is locating the picture-perfect partner for the type of life she wants to be seen as having and lock them down, and in her mind that person is a man. She wants a husband with money and looks and brains and power, but not so much of any one that it would outshine her; she craves to be in the power seat of a power couple, and to get the attention she feels she’s always been unjustly robbed of. She’s got no interest whatsoever in romance and finds the whole concept a laughable waste of time. But for all she projects to the world, Dolores in reality harbors a deep, deep, DEEPDEEPDEEP same-sex attraction. She has thoroughly locked herself in that closet and a Norwegian Ridgeback swallowed the key.
patronus —Persian cat. This animal has all the appearance of being sweet and cuddly, but rub her the wrong way and those barely-retracted claws are coming out in an instant. Vain, independent, calculating, haughty, and very, very well-groomed at all times.
boggart —Stemming from her Napoleon Complex, Dolores’ boggart takes the form of herself shrunken down like Alice in Wonderland after sipping the drink me potion; her voice squeaks higher and higher into an undetectable range no matter how loud she yells and she can just barely avoid getting squashed beneath someone else’s disgusting, dirty shoes. Dolores as a person demands attention to function and she simply will not tolerate being made to feel literally small.
IC In Depth
personality traits —
tidy - Dolores is obsessed with beauty and perfection and symmetry in all things and nothing makes her skin crawl more than disorder—to the extent that after her mother and father split and she lived full-time with her father, Dolores developed OCD (though it hasn’t been properly diagnosed as such, and Dolores would immediately write off anyone who attempted to call it that to her face). In her mind she is simply particular; she has very high standards and she expects the world to rise to them, or else she’ll root out the filth around her weed by weed. She cut off the heads of her stuffies who stepped out of line at her toddler-age tea parties you’d better believe she’d do the same to you and care less about it.
passive aggressive - Dolores is well-known for her disconcerting calm in face of disagreements, her calculated cute-sweet demeanor and high-pitched voice. But make no mistake; Dolores is sugar laced with arsenic. In all likelihood she hates your guts and has already cooked up an in-depth five-year plan to chip away at you piece by painstaking piece. It’s a mystery how she manages to keep all that highly-pressurized rage simmering beneath the surface the way she’s somehow perfected, because she’s wound up so tight that it’s a wonder her eyes don’t pop out of her damn head and she’s about twenty-five seconds away from a full-blown psychotic break on a good day.
jealous - Dolores wants what she feels she’s due, plain and simple. When she sees others gain the things she wants while she gets overlooked, it stokes that ever-burning vindictive flame inside of her. It started in early childhood when her father gave attention to anyone or anything that wasn’t her, and it’s only gotten worse every day since.
intolerant - At this point in her life, her infamous intolerance is still in its earliest seed stages, but the seed is planted. One of the most interesting things for me about writing a character like Dolores at this age is to see how and why this mentality grows out of experiences she encounters in these formative years.
character biography —
Born ten pounds of spunk in a four pound, five ounce package, Dolores Jane Umbridge came into this world pink and perfect.
Perfect. Perfect. Perfectperfectperfect.
Even from a young age it was all Dolores cared about. Her father Orford Umbridge would whisper to Dolores what a beautiful perfect princess she was and Dolores believed it with every fibre of her being. Beautiful. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect.
Then her mother Ellen gave birth to a younger brother who showed not the faintest trace of magic, and that was not perfect. The rift between parents and siblings grew into a cavern as Orford’s whispering words turned against Ellen; her fault. Worthless. Vile. Mudblood. Filthy Squib. Repulsive. Disgraceful. Wrong.
It wasn’t long before the couple split up, with Ellen and her son being banished to the Muggle world, and then it was just Orford and Dolores, together in their once-more perfect world.
And would that it could have stayed that way forever. Orford had always had wandering eyes and Dolores, desperate always to be the only girl in her father’s life, grew jealous and suspicious and hateful (and nonononono NOT anything else nope) for the beautiful vapid creatures that drew his gaze, threatening to upend what was hers.
Knowing nothing beyond her childhood of constant praise and adoration, Dolores went to Hogwarts expecting the world to cater to her every whim. So when people didn’t immediately kiss the ground she walked on, it made her angry. When all the girls and boys didn’t fall all over themselves to try and woo her, it made her furious. When the professors and adults didn’t sing her vast praises on high, it made her outraged.
How was everyone on earth too fucking useless to see how perfect she was?!
Dolores was a bundle of dynamite wrapped up in a pretty pink bow, just waiting to blow.
She went to the Ministry with adjusted expectations on being outright offered what she knew she deserved, and was proven right when she was overlooked by grotesquely unqualified superiors in favor of the sniveling ingrates all around her. But Dolores was prepared to play the long game and bide her time, just waiting for that one weak crack in the system where she could dig in her knuckle and crumble an empire with a smile on her face.
And she thought she’d found that perfect crack when she went to the Dark Lord. Surely he would see Dolores for all she was worth, surely he would bestow upon her all that power, finally, finally, finally. He was only a silly man, after all.
But the foul, imperfect world let Dolores down again. The Dark Lord gave his preference to some other detestable twots just like Dolores always feared Orford would, and then he paid the price for his idiocy when he fell from power (serves him right the arrogant swine), and Dolores returned to her long game at the Ministry with a newfound fervor to crush all who dared try to overlook her beneath her pink kitten heels.
Waiting for the next perfect move to present itself. And when it does, she’ll be ready.
plot ideas —
Girlsgirlsgirls. I would love an opportunity to unpack some of Dolores’ deeply rooted internalized homophobia. Maybe it’s an openly gay and proud woman who drives Dolores up the wall, maybe it’s a beautiful lady who despite all of Dolores’ efforts starts to get beneath her skin, someone she can’t seem to shake… This could go in so many directions and I’m here for them all!
Ministry Spats. Anyone she might have dustups with on her Ministry stomping grounds—Arthur Weasley, Alastor Moody, etc. Also anyone with pro-creature leanings and/or sentiments at this stage could greatly inform her later mindset and I would love to have them interact.
extra —
Headcanon: Dolores hates children; she thinks they’re disgusting tiny wastes of breath and absolutely looks down on anyone who has chosen the family plan for their life.

see the application for Lily Evans under the cut.
OOC
name — kate age — 26 pronouns — she/her timezone — est
IC Overview
name — lily marie evans faceclaim — sophie skelton age — 26 gender — female sexuality — heterosexual patronus — doe
boggart — the last time she actually faced a boggart, it was a clown, but if lily were to come across one now, it would take the form of a riptide. lily is obviously afraid of many things (especially now that she’s a mother, fear is a constant to her), but the feeling that is the worst in the world to her is the feeling of being pulled down, drowning, unable to escape. sometimes her grief over James’ injury is like this — all-consuming, frightening, dark, as if it’ll never pass and she’ll never be free of it. for lily, the worst thing would be to fight and fight to escape the darkness and for it not to make a difference.
IC In Depth
personality traits —
+ nurturing — lily has always believed and seen the best in those around her, and she has a way of bringing that side out of people. even when she was a girl and friends with severus, her friendship brought out a side of him that the rest of the world never got to see. she’s not maternal in a bossy or overbearing way, but in a way that gently cultivates good in the people that she spends her time on.
+ intuitive — lily has a gift for being able to read people. she can often understand what they don’t say just as well as what they do. this has been a great asset especially in her dealings with sirius and remus. her understanding cuts to the heart of the matter, which makes it easier for her to be able to be there for the people she loves.
- self-righteous — sometimes it’s difficult for lily to see where she’s in the wrong. once she’s made her mind up that she’s right, it’s nearly impossible to sway her to see the other side of things, even in the situations where she is wrong.
- stubborn — lily doesn’t give up easily. when she sets her mind to something, she digs her heels in, even when that wreaks havoc in her life. she’s too stubborn to give up hope of healing james, even when healer after healer tells her it’s hopeless. she’s too stubborn to forgive severus for the ways he hurt her, even though he’s more than proved his loyalty at his own personal risk. she’s too stubborn to give up on finding a way to make remus and sirius reconcile, even though both of them would far prefer for her to get off their backs about it.
character biography —
lily would be the first to admit that she had an idyllic childhood. her family was solidly middle class, ensconced in english suburbia (though right on the edge of the nice side of town). she had an older sister that she idolized, two parents that were deeply in love and doted on both of their daughters, and a charming personality that attracted friends at her schools and in the neighborhood from an early age. the only thing abnormal about lily was the strange things that she could seem to do, even from a young age. it alarmed her parents, but they did a good job of hiding that from her, so lily was never concerned about being strange, only fascinated by the things she could make happen.
it wasn’t until she was nine and a shabby boy from the wrong side of town approached her at the park that she knew the truth — she was a witch. knowing severus was like tasting chocolate for the first time — sweet, intoxicating, a touch of bitter consequence. she lapped up everything he could tell her, dragged him home to meet her parents, insisted that he become a part of the family. her parents were hesitant at first, but ready to latch onto any explanation that someone could give them as to what strange things their daughter could do, and it was only two years later when a tall blonde witch appeared at the doorway to confirm the story.
looking back, lily can see now that the cracks in her family began the moment severus approached. the more lily dragged severus into her family’s life, the more petunia edged her way out of lily’s. by the time lily left for hogwarts, the damage was already done, but she was too young and excited to realize that she had lost her sister.
lily’s life at hogwarts was a dream. she was a witch, and she was good at it, too. gryffindor fit like a glove, and she gathered friends around her that latched onto her light, her joy, her radiance. she kept severus close, too, but it was harder with him in slytherin, and his housemates looking down on their friendship.
there were only two parts of hogwarts that lily found difficult — the fact that severus was wrong because it did matter, and James Potter.
being a muggleborn would never be something that lily could be ashamed of, but people still tried to knock her down because of it. if she had known that trading the muggle world to be a wtich would plunge her into the heart of a war, maybe lily wouldn’t have been so enthusiastic about going to hogwarts, but by the time she realized the state of her new world, she was in too deep to do anything but fight.
James Potter was arrogant and bossy and rude and mean. he was spiteful and prejudiced and not as good looking as he thought he was. if lily was the hero of her story, james was the antagonist, and for five and a half years, lily was deeply committed to the grudge she held over the boy in question. but in her sixth year, she no longer had severus, and james no longer seemed to enjoy picking on the weaker students he had tortured for years. it was easier for everyone if they learned how to get along, lily told herself, and it was true. the common room was certainly much calmer in the evenings without evans and potter screaming at each other over the latest prank or obnoxious way to ask her out.
even now, lily couldn’t say when hatred turned to apathy and apathy turned to interest and interest to friendship and friendship to love. maybe it was the fact that remus was always there to share the latest thoughtful thing james had done for him, maybe it was the way james consoled the homesick first year when they found her lost in the castle during rounds as head boy and girl, or maybe it was just that lily evans and james potter were perfectly matched for each other. of course, it’s never that simple, but the fact of the matter is that lily and james’ love story was so complex that there was no way for her to describe how hatred and enmity turned to love and eventually marriage.
but it did, and james became her best friend. and when her parents died in a car accident and petunia said she never wanted to see lily again, james became her family. he was the reason she was able to fight even when the fight seemed hopeless. he was the reason she hoped and longed for a better life. he was the reason she let mary doll her up in a white dress and heels that were way too tall for her and walked down the aisle to that cliche waltz. he was the reason she wasn’t afraid to give birth to harry in the midst of war. he was the reason she was still able to smile and laugh while living every moment in fear that their hiding place would be discovered and their son would be murdered.
he wasn’t her reason for living, because lily evans wasn’t a helpless, brainless girl, but he was the reason that her life was so full of light in the middle of a war.
until, one day, that light went out.
these last five years, lily has done everything she could to get that light back, to see james open his eyes and give her that look that makes her heart melt. she’s enrolled him in treatment after treatment, tried every new trial that the healing community comes up with, read every medical journal she could get her hands on from every wizarding healing institution around the world. she trained to become a healer so that she could do her own research. she left harry with sirius for days and sometimes weeks at a time, only coming home to kiss her son and catch some rest, all with the goal in mind of reuniting her family.
but somewhere along the way, harry grew from a baby who knew nothing of war to a little boy who could feel the absence of his mum and had the words to question why. before she could realize what was happening, he was turning to sirius more often than he was turning to her, asking her questions that she didn’t have answers for, showcasing new abilities that she hadn’t the time to teach him. where had he learned to play piano? was that french he was just speaking?
lily is caught between wanting to be a good mother and wanting to reunite her family, and she’s only beginning to see that the two goals aren’t necessarily compatible.
plot ideas —
mmm so MANY
— harry // lily is right on the verge of beginning to realize that her obsession with getting james back is hurting her son. she’s not around as much as he wants her to be, and he’s smart enough to see that his mum is unhappy. he has no interest in his father, sees uncle sirius as the only dad he needs, and that concerns lily. I’d love to see things push this even father home for her. I think it’ll be really important for lily to come to terms with the fact that she might have to move on in order to give her son the life he deserves.
— sirius // wow, lily and sirius have gotten themselves into a little bit of a mess. they relied on one another so much after james was injured and it only seemed natural at the time that sirius should move in with lily and harry. but it’s been five years now, and their living situation has harry confused. in fact, their whole relationship is probably confused. sirius and lily have no romantic feelings whatsoever for each other, but that doesn’t mean that sirius would be okay with some other man swooping in and stealing lily’s heart. if lily does decide to move on, how can she do that while she shares a house with james’ best friend and brother?
— horcrux hunt // of course, there’s that dynamic in her relationship with sirius, too. lily doesn’t know about the horcruxes. all she knows is that sirius is helping dumbledore with a lengthy project — she suspects it has something to do with the order, but she doesn’t quite understand why. voldemort’s gone, isn’t he? if lily were to find out about them, and discover that both sirius and dumbledore kept such an important secret from her (that they knew the man who might target her son would return in only a matter of time), how would she react? how would she be able to trust them again?
— old friend // man, I’d love to see some lily/severus stuff in this verse. has she forgiven her old friend? does she know about his role in the war? does she know that he was a spy for the order? does she even know that he was a death eater? what would happen if something were to bring them back into one another’s lives and they rekindled their friendship? if that information came out later, would she ever be able to forgive him? and how could she hope to have a good relationship with severus when she lives in the same house as sirius?
— death eaters rising // lily has no reason to think that voldemort could ever come back — no one but sirius, dumbledore, kingsley, minerva, and alastor have any reason to think that, because no one else knows about the horcruxes (well, except for a very small faction of death eaters, but they’re not about to spread that around). so if the death eaters were to begin to move around again, what will her response be? will she be able to read the signs and put two and two together, or will she just think they’re stirring trouble because they can?
— voldemort’s return // mmm, if voldie does return, what will that mean for lily potter? her son was one of the boys he considered going after. what if he decides to target harry again, this time for real? how would she protect her son?
lol so many more but ain’t nobody got time for that right now.

Congrats, May, you have been accepted to AL for the role of Poppy Pomfrey (FC: Naomi Watts). Ahhh, May, I am SO excited that you are bringing us Poppy. We so rarely see her played in the RP community, and she’s just such a fascinating character. It’s obvious that you’ve written her before and have such a good grasp on her character as well as how she fits into this world. I’m so excited for my Minerva to have her best pal! Please send in your blog (no sideblogs for first characters, please) in the next 24 hours and be sure to take a look at our new player checklist.Welcome home, we’re so excited to have you join the family!
OOC
name — may
 age — 21
 pronouns — she/her
timezone — GMT+1
activity level — will probably be available for a few hours every day; will very rarely take more than 24hrs to respond any questions? — when do we start?
IC Overview
name — Poppy Pomfrey age — 48
gender — cis-female, she/her
 sexuality — homosexual

patronus — a white swan, which often belongs to a highly emotional owner. unfortunately for her, this description fits poppy particularly well; she is a woman known for her bursts of hysteria and her strong emotional core. in particular, like a maternal swan, poppy’s protectiveness (of friends, family, and patients) borders on frighteningly aggressive — but you’ll get used to it!

boggart — what an outsider might perceive to be a fear of loss is in fact intrinsically linked to a fear of failure; poppy’s boggart is indeed death, but specifically preventable death. in other words, she will see those she cares about in mortal peril, but she is powerless to save them.
IC in depth
personality traits —
+benevolent - above all else, poppy is an intensely kind-hearted individual. though first a healer by family trade and intellectual interest, she nonetheless passionately ties herself to the welfare and safety of her charges.
+intelligent - she might not be minerva mcgonagall in the duelling department, but poppy excelled in all core subjects at school (as well as astronomy and muggle studies) in order to train as a healer. she is often found reading medical journals of the muggle and magical kind in her spare time — and if you call her ‘nurse’, when she is quite aware that a healer is the muggle equivalent of a doctor, she is very likely to show you her extensive knowledge of gruesome hexes.
+perfectionist - though there’s a valid argument for obsessive compulsive tendencies, poppy believes she’s merely a perfectionist. it’s not often problematic, though her excessive tidying and cleaning can become a tad time-consuming for her, and in fact ensures the best possible care for her patients.
+-protective - linked to a desire for regular company, which she sometimes lacks in the hospital wing, poppy is protective of her patients to the point of trapping them in her sights if an ailment stretches beyond the minor kind. nonetheless, she’s soft enough that she might allow the occasional visit, even if they are short and watched with a careful eye.
-aggressive - whilst not perhaps the most natural of fighters, the aforementioned fierce protectiveness goes hand in hand with an aggressive streak. poppy will shout when the safety of a patient is compromised, even if it risks said patient’s hearing. she has no qualms about angrily tackling those who would dare question her, which can cause various problems.
-emotional - some have termed her ‘hysterical’ which, with her muggle medical understanding, poppy deems highly offensive. she is inclined to tearful outbursts, though is usually able to maintain composure if her skills are required — even if she is found to be a sobbing mess shortly after saving a life. students are more likely to see the stoic side of her, which certainly exists in equal measure, but this is her way of maintaining order in her infirmary; besides, she doesn’t find fixing broken bones and the like to be particularly upsetting.
character biography —
born the second daughter of liberal, magical parents, poppy has been surrounded by witchcraft and wizardry her entire life. her mother, a hufflepuff healer, is her antithesis in many ways; perpetually calm and eternally warm, she is a creature of comfort for her own patients, whereas her daughter’s bedside manner tends to have a firmer, anxious edge. poppy’s father, a ravenclaw, is an alchemist of considerable ability and, like his younger child, more of a highly strung, intellectual character. completing the family is violet, a far older sister, who still delights in reminding poppy that she was an (‘unhappy’) accident. being the youngest, by a fairly considerable gap, poppy grew quickly in her youth, taking to her mother’s books and her father’s journals to seek ways to converse with her family without dragging them to her childish level.
sorted into ravenclaw at the age of 11, poppy discovered both age-appropriate friends and an identity of her own, though her love of healing and her passion for potions did not fade in her new verdant home, away from the london smog. she never discarded her maturity even during her earliest years at hogwarts, but she was certainly truer to herself without a family to please so directly. to this day, she credits minerva mcgonagall with the oft bolshy courage she carries around the infirmary.
at 16, poppy was alarmed to realise that boys had begun to notice her. a relatively popular girl, well-presented and quick to help others with their work, she wasn’t entirely surprised at first to spot a few extra faces in her study group. it was minerva, with all her non-existent tact, who leaned over to comment on certain growth around the bust; the illusion that she was being genuinely helpful quickly came crashing down. she knew how it all worked from her books, and even had a niece to coo over during the holidays, but the relationships that stole her free time for a while after that were peculiar and dissatisfying. it was down to minerva once again, aided by alastor moody, to inform poppy that her sexuality was very much up for debate. suddenly her fascination with watching minerva’s frankly dangerous quidditch tricks made an awful lot of sense…
after graduating from hogwarts, poppy trained at st mungo’s under her mother’s watchful eye, choosing to focus her talents on paediatric healing. once again suffocated at home, as well as at work, she grasped the opportunity to fill the post of hogwarts matron with both hands when it was mentioned to her. she has been happily there ever since, largely contentedly alone and perfectly comfortable with a continuous stream of children to mother — without the horrific remnants of labour on her body and memory.
in war, poppy made her association with the order of the phoenix clear to the right people, but never formally joined their ranks. in her mind, as dumbledore agreed, she was better without the recognisable connection. nevertheless, her days spent treating students bled into nights aiding order members in her personal quarters. if she ever has to house mr sirius black, or some other poor soul, in her spare bedroom with a nasty wound again, she is sure she will lose her mind. but, if the darkness comes knocking once more, she will gladly take that risk.
plot ideas —
- poppy absolutely has an unreciprocated crush on minerva, long since weaved with friendship and familial love, which i could certainly see as a point of contention between the two during heated moments.
- entirely open to romantic subplots, but poppy will always focus on her patients first!
extra —
headcanons:
- poppy heads the unofficial ‘ban the house system’ group, which she attempts to force on her colleagues every so often. she is not a fan of the division it creates, nor the rigid expectations, and has never been one to encourage prejudice against slytherin house (or any house, for that matter). this tendency towards prejudice is the one thing she dislikes in minerva.
- likewise, poppy has a small campaign to restrict quidditch players to fourth-years and above. she knows that minerva and the other house heads probably despise her for it, but her good friend’s dangerous school experiences have helped to create this intense loathing.

Congrats, BELLA, you have been accepted to AL for the role of FRANK LONGBOTTOM (FC: John Boyega). add some comments and stuff here. BELLYBOO! Wow, what a great app! It’s so exciting to have Frank here, and your portrayal of him just made me fall even more in love with him and your writing. OMG I can’t wait to see some of your plot ideas play out. Rachie is about to be PUMPED. Please send in your blog (no sideblogs for first characters, please) in the next 24 hours and be sure to take a look at our new player checklist. Welcome home (once again), we’re so excited to have you join the family!
OOC
name — bella! hi it’s me. age — 24. pronouns — she/hers/her. timezone — pst. activity level — i would give myself somewhere around a seven, but i always post at least twice a week.
IC Overview
name —franklin ibiyemi longbottom. faceclaim — john boyega age — 29. gender —cis-male. sexuality — heterosexual. patronus — elephant; frank is formidable, but not in the way that alastor moody is formidable. he’s a calming presence, one that brings people together, especially in times of crisis. he’s also known to be the protector, the person who will make sure others in his life are put first. his father’s patronus was also an elephant, and it’s a fact that he wears with pride. boggart — when frank was a little boy, a boggart escaped from a cabinet in his mother’s office. then, the creature appeared to him as a gigantic spider, scrambling around the house after him as he screeched for one of his family members. when frank was in school, slughorn allowed him to see another boggart. then, it was the thought of not being successful. of not living up to his mother’s expectations. it was an image of himself living on the side of the road, alone and without anyone in his family by his side. when he was finally an auror, it was his own death. he was so afraid of losing himself to the cause that it became his biggest fear.
his boggart has changed throughout his life. maybe that means that he’s always been scared; always been afraid of what might be. although he hasn’t seen a boggart recently, frank is certain it would be the loss of alice or neville, which is maybe his biggest fear of all. he now has a family, and he would be lost if he were to lose them.
IC In Depth
personality traits —
+ compassionate: frank has always been kind. he’s had a heart for those who need it; a keen eye to help when someone is hurting. he’s never known how he got pushed into the role of being the person people lean on, but he enjoys it. he enjoys knowing that he can make someone feel better with a long talk or a cuppa. it quite reminds him of his father, stern and stoic as he was. their ability to soothe was similar, and frank had always admired that in himself.
+ flexible: although steadfast in his morals, frank is not one to be stubborn. he easily bends his mind if it means that the job (or the conversation) will be easier. it makes him a good friend; a person who is easy to apologize for mistakes he’s made or the person hew as in the past. frank learns easily and doesn’t like to stay in one spot. he hopes to grow, and knows that it is impossible to do so if he isn’t flexible.
- over-protective: although he, sometimes, finds his protectiveness a use, for the most part it just gets in frank’s way. he can’t seem to stop protecting the people he cares about. if he knows they need help, he will over-help to the point where they might start to resent him. frank doesn’t know when to stop, and he truly doesn’t know what it does to the people around. he doesn’t realize that he might be stepping over lines that he shouldn’t be crossing.
- paranoid: hand-in-hand with his over-protectiveness is frank’s paranoia. especially since the war ended, frank has almost sounded like a conspiracy-theorist. he knows with every inch of his being  that the war will come back. he knows that he must take every precaution to keep them safe. this makes him not only a bit less present in his family life but in his job. he’s not quite sure how to stop it but it’s taking a toll on his mental health as well. it’s not long before he knows his physical health will go down the drain too.
character biography —
When Frank was born, no one would’ve expected him to turn out an auror. He was scared of everything: from too hot pans to tiny bugs that would appear in the kitchen. No one could understand how this child was the product of one Augusta and Abaeze Longbottom. For many years, Frank couldn’t understand it himself. His mother was on the Wizengamot and his father, having immigrated from Nigeria, rose his way in a new country through the Department of Mysteries (like his father before him). They were fearless supporters of muggleborn rights (although Augusta was not exactly the best at showing that support outside the debate room), bright minds leading Wizarding England into the future. Meanwhile, Frank couldn’t even learn to hold his wand properly without fumbling when a spark shot out of it.
Of course, that put a slight strain on his relationship with his parents, especially his mother. Where Abaeze had learned to be patient, Augusta had learned frustration. She would often get short with her son if he wasn’t able to figure out a spell and, even at a young age, expected nothing more than her son to be perfect. Frank tried as hard as he could to please her, and earned the reputation of a goody-two-shoes. Where other pure blood kids would sneak off at social gatherings to play games, Frank remained either with a book in his hand or socializing with those adults whom his mother hoped to please. And, a part of him never minded. He adored his alone time, especially if they meant settling in with a good book. Nothing to scare him there. Only words and stories that he longed to be real. He’d practically exhausted the selection in their home library by the time his Hogwarts letter arrived.
Frank finally was given an owl and a wand (his own wand! something he could hold and not fear an explosion from), and was sent off on the Express with few words of wisdom and money for pasties on the train. He was determined to make friends this go round, after all, muggleborns and halfbloods would be here as well. Maybe it was fate that he ended up in Alice’s cart. He knew of her, of course, from pureblood society, and was disappointed at first not to meet someone different. That disappointment quickly turned to a feeling of luck. He’d never met anyone who he’d bonded with faster than Alice Rosier.
When they got to Hogwarts, he was shocked to find the hat almost instantly shouting Gryffindor! upon touching his head. As if a switch had been flipped, Augusta wrote with a letter saying how proud she was that her son was in the same house as her. A bit of the pressure she’d put on him began to lessen, especially as Frank’s grades proved to be formidable. Soon, although still afraid of a lot, Frank began following in his parents’ footsteps. He even got detention once for trying to stop a Slytherin pureblood from hurting a first year muggleborn. His mother had cried tears of pride upon hearing that fact (although Frank still got a talking to as to why it was wrong to curse a bully and not talk to them first).
It was on a warm spring day that an Auror visited their Defense Against the Dark Arts class and talked about what it was like to work as a premiere wizarding law enforcement agent. Frank was star-struck. Starting his fourth year, Frank came into school with a new purpose and it wasn’t long before he started to look forward to the future. With a recommendation from both Flitwick and McGonagall, Frank was almost instantly accepted to the program, especially upon getting Head Boy in his final year of school. It was sometime in there (although Frank never was certain when he fell in love with Alice, he always just was in love with her) that he’d asked Alice to be his girlfriend. When they became aurors together, well, that was just a cherry on a very tasty cake.
And then the war started.
It was almost like his dream turned slowly into a nightmare. The bright edges turned a little bit grayer. Yet, there were always moments of sunshine. He and Alice got married and had Neville. Frank thought he knew love; thought he knew what it meant to be in love, but then Neville was born and it was like the entire world had stopped. The prophecy was spoken and he felt as though he were going to explode every day with the thought of keeping his son safe. He didn’t expect what was to happen next. He didn’t know that it would be his mother to be the one to save his son.
To this day, he wishes it were him. Frank feels a deep sense of regret that his father was left alone because his mother did what he couldn’t. Of course, he wasn’t home. Alice and himself were on a mission. It’s been five years and he still feels a deep sense of guilt for what happened to his mother. And, surprisingly, he misses her. He misses her quips and her over-the-top speeches. He misses her silly outfits and the way she had to wear her hat just right. But most of all, he misses the fact that he had just started to become friends with his mum. The war is over but he can’t help but think that it might start up again. And Frank refuses to lose anyone. No, not this time. Frank would be damned if he let anyone take away his family again.
plot ideas —
madness: i want to see what happens if frank lets his paranoia take over. he’s got a good heart, but what if he thinks his family is in trouble? what if he thinks that alice or neville might be at risk again? he would go to any lengths to see them safe, even if that means betraying what he believes in.
grief: i don’t think that frank has ever truly dealt with what happened with his mother. he has never given himself the time to realize what happened to her and take a breath. he has been so consumed with taking care of everyone else, namely his dad, that he hasn’t thought about taking care of himself. what happens if he gives in to his grief? what happens if he finds himself falling in too deep?
care: frank cares deeply about his friends and he can’t imagine what lily potter is going through right now. while he wants to make sure remus was alright, he also hopes that the young mother is taking care of herself as well. while he knows there’s not much he could do, the thought of losing alice in an attack was enough to make him want to help in any way he can.
worry: while he knows that remus doesn’t need the care, he worries about the younger man. his status as a werewolf is precarious at best, and frank doesn’t know just how to help. he fears he’s overdoing it. and what if he is? what if he’s pushing remus away because he cares too much? it’s the dad in him, of course, but he hopes he won’t lose a friend in his paranoia.
family: frank knows that alice is having a rough time lately, just like his father. they are both feeling as guilty as he is, and he hopes to take some of that guilt off their shoulders. besides, he loves alice more than anything in the world. maybe it’s time that he shows them what his love means.
work: i want something to go terribly wrong for frank at work. i think up to this point he’s had no conflict there. he’s good at his job, but what if his paranoia makes him suffer? what if his inability to stop makes him lose some of his security?

Congrats, MOOKA, you have been accepted to AL for the role of ALASTOR MOODY (FC: Raul Esparza). Yessss, MOOODY. Mooka, you’ve done an excellent job of flushing out the kind of man that Alastor is and what motivates him. He’s known war and fighting his whole life being the son of two aurors and yet you also show so beautifully his capacity for real life, like friendship and laughter in the common room! I’m so excited to see you play him out in this plot! Please send in your blog (no sideblogs for first characters, please) in the next 24 hours and be sure to take a look at our new player checklist. Welcome home (once again), we’re so excited to have you join the family!
OOC
name — Mooka age — 24 pronouns — she/her timezone — PST (GMT-7) activity level — Fairly active ooc, and usually write one longer reply every other day Busy work schedule with weird hours, but more active on the weekends.
IC Overview
name — Alastor Moody faceclaim —, Raul Esparza, Craig Parkinson, Paddy Considine age — 48 gender — cis-Male, he/him sexuality — Pansexual patronus — Bison boggart — A burnt screaming corpse, the first death witnessed from the hands of the Dark Lord and his servants  when he was a young Auror
IC In Depth
personality traits —
Determined: The impossible is possible. Moody believes anything can be accomplished with enough time, effort, and desire placed behind it. No corners are cut in his efforts at work, with Order missions, or ensuring the proper training of the newest recruits. One doesn’t take kindly to those who believe there is no hope in extinguishing the darkness in the world or making it a better place.
Loyal” Despite an outwardly gruff exterior, Alastor has a quick judge of character, latching quickly and deeply to those he believes he can trust. Too much of his thoughts lingering on ensuring his friends and his Aurors are safe, spending his own free time and sanity on completing
Closed off: An Auror is a dangerous job, fighting against the Dark Lord and his followers is a death sentence. The idea of being harmed or killed to leave those behind with any form of regret or sadness is something to be avoided. How can someone miss you if they never knew you in the first place? Such thoughts cause Alastor to second guess the personal relations in his life, even though he knows it’s only human to bond with others.
Paranoid: The scars of war came not only in the physical form. Already a nervous person from his youth, albeit a more healthy confliction, Alastor can never shake the feeling of being watched. Hunted. Overcautious in his personal life, not consuming foods or drink not produced in front of him to being wary of every person that appears to be moving in the  same direction on the street.
character biography —
Life is dangerous Alastor, one always has to be on your toes! An afterthought of a full career for two Aurors, yet he never felt as if he was a burden. His mother had a large laugh and hummed while about the house, his father in love with her ever waking moment of the day. But they were gone often, understandably, but a child could never completely rid the selfish feeling of being left behind.
He is to be an Auror, like his parents and those before them. It’s in their blood and Alastor doesn’t shrink away from the challenge. Hogwarts is everything that was promised and more, access to so much information Moody hardly has the time to consume as much as he desires. The friends a welcomed bonus to the rigors of academia, bliss such slate nights spent rolling with laughter, the camaraderie in the Gryffindor common room after a Quidditch victory are memories he holds close and often to his chest. How young and foolish they all were.
Becoming an Auror is easy, a childhood of practice and words of those before him make the long hours and trials worth every body ache or jinxed limb. Yet the work is not as rewarding as one thought. Paperwork and a reason why things cannot be done with efficiency behind every corner. And it’s here when the reality of the depravity of wizardkind comes to light, how people treat one another purely based on their blood, yet the Ministry is slow and unable to protect their citizens while thumbs stand by idle. Of course he loves his job, loves the long hours and the small victories but Merlin! There is never enough done, a part of him lacking something in his life.
The Order of the Phoenix was something that was missing. Something that actually mattered behind and the paperwork and mundane arrests of criminals. The fire and passion in the group, borderline erotic. Yet it takes almost everything from them, the breaking of trust, the exhaustion. Alastor finds it difficult to believe it simply ends one day, refuses to believe it just ends like that. And it comes as a painful relief to know it isn’t...even if they have to do it all again so soon.
(( Of course would add Minerva details to this if accepted! Minerva/Moody is an awesome ship I haven’t thought about before! Just didn't want to be presumptuous before chatting/plotting with Minverva’s mun!
plot ideas —
+All of the Order missions! Even if they do not have a great deal of actions (ie fighting) in them I love setting up scenarios for characters to have to talk about the deeper issues that come with war! Especially when they are fighting  against people they grew up with and spent years with at school. I think such great character growth comes when characters are
+Trials from the first war? I know politics are slow and corrupt especially in the HP universe, revisiting war criminals from Voldemort’s first rise and digging up otherwise buried emotions people are putting behind them. Alastor has an awful habit of being unable to forget the past.
+Auror training! Alastor is very eccentric as we know and his methods of teaching are very very unconventional. Constant vigilance would apply when Auror prospects are away from the Ministry as well! Moody would not be beyond kidnapping students from their beds and setting them off thinking they were captured by Death Eaters or some Dark creature only to be controlling the strings from behind the scenes. Of course he is also there when trainees might be struggling , offering helpful lessons or hope for the future.
+Butting heads with the younger generations. Alastor is one of the most stubborn men you will ever meet, but that doesn’t mean he’s against change. The youth are what affect the future and would love to see some younger characters butt heads with him! On the other end would love to see Moody fight with people inside the Ministry in the more law making role.
extra —
I’m keeping Alastor’s injuries concurrent from the canon at this point if that’s fine with the admins! One fake leg, magical eye and heavy scarring on his face.

Congrats, KIRA, you have been accepted to AL for the role of POPPY POMFREY (FC: Sandra Oh). Eeep, I’m so excited to see you join us with Poppy! She’s such an intriguing character and I love seeing the way that grief has hardened her into the strict matron we all know her to be from the books. I’m so excited to see her develop and work through that grief! Please send in your blog (no sideblogs for first characters, please) in the next 24 hours and be sure to take a look at our new player checklist. Welcome home (once again), we’re so excited to have you join the family!
OOC
name — Kira age — 25 pronouns — she/her timezone — AEST
IC Overview
name — Poppy Pomfrey faceclaim — Sandra Oh age — 48 gender — Female sexuality — Queer
patronus — Maine Coon cat. Picture a warm, roaring fire, a woolen blanket over your lap, a big, fluffy cat lounging next to you, comforting you and keeping you warm. That’s Poppy Pomfrey.
boggart — A bloodied corpse. She doesn’t fear broken bones, bodies or illnesses. She fears not being able to do anything about them.
IC In Depth
personality traits —
+Intuitive: Extremely emotionally intelligent, Poppy is a pretty good judge of people’s character. She’s empathetic, and can usually tell when someone is lying.
+Determined: When Poppy has decided something, it’s extraordinarily difficult to sway her from her choice. She takes this particularly hard when she’s decided on a course of treatment or action for a patient and they deteriorate despite her intervention.
-Stubborn: Poppy knows that she’s among the best Healers of this age, and knows her knowledge is largely wasted at Hogwarts. If someone disagrees with her treatment plans, she’ll shove information and knowledge down their throat until they back off. She knuckles down when she knows something is correct or right, and rarely bows out of a fight. When Minerva and Poppy were sorted into separate houses, she notoriously marched to the Headmasters office and demanded a “re-draw”, insisting that the hat must be wrong.
-Short-tempered: While at work, Poppy tends to shut this part of herself off, her passion pushed into her work, but in her personal life, it doesn’t take much to get Poppy angry. And boy, when she’s angry, Poppy has a lethal and sharp tongue that could make grown men cry.
character biography —
Too queer for the Muggle life she left behind, and too Muggle for the wizarding society she found, Poppy threw herself into books and learning from a young age. Even with Muggleborn prejudices, Hogwarts became a safe haven for Poppy—the only place in the world she has been able to be herself. Among most of the students, Poppy was known as a kind, gifted witch, a good listener. Among her close friends Alastor and Minerva, Poppy told sarcastic jokes, ranted about wizarding society and the idiocy of the wix surrounding her.
After leaving Hogwarts, Poppy went to St Mungo’s to train as a Healer. She completed her training at an accelerated rate, and was given an interim position in Artefact Accidents- though it soon became clear that Poppy’s mind was under-utilised in this position. She was moved to the Janus Thickey ward six months later, where she thrived. Poppy spent years developing new approaches to managing the needs of long-term patients, and established new protocol for pain management for victims of an improperly applied Cruciatus Curse.
It was on this ward that Poppy met her first and only love, Antonia Callaghan. Poppy was giddy in love. She loved new things, like flowers, hand-holding and dinner dates. Antonia helped her to see life outside of work, and opened her up to joy. She saw a life outside of work for the first time, saw deeper meaning in healing people and giving them comfort, rather than just climbing the ranks of an aspirational career. When Minerva asked her to work at Hogwarts with her, and Poppy in such a good mood, it was easy to make the transition. One night, when Minerva and Poppy were having dinner, Poppy was talking about how brilliant it was to be in a relationship when she casually suggested that Minerva and Alastor would be pretty perfect for each other. Double dates followed, and then Minerva and Alastor’s wedding, and all was well.
When the war began, Poppy made the astute decision to stay at Hogwarts. With Minerva and Dumbledore juggling the Order of the Phoenix and their duties at the school, Poppy wanted to be a stable figure for the students. She wanted parents to know that there was someone available to nurture, protect and care for their children. But Antonia didn’t agree. A fiery spirit, Antonia fought against Death Eaters with the Order at every opportunity. Poppy was in her study late at night when Minerva arrived to tell her in person that Antonia had been killed.
Consumed with grief, Minerva and Alastor unreachable because of their work with the Order, Poppy threw herself into her work again. When she wasn’t in the Hospital Wing, Poppy was researching, spending hours writing papers, organizing a curriculum. Grief hardened Poppy, she has less tolerance for children breaking rules or getting themselves into silly arguments. She hears the way Minerva and Alastor talk about what’s coming, as if the war isn’t truly over. Poppy isn’t prepared for that. She can’t lose any more of the people she loves.
plot ideas —
I would LOVE for Poppy to eventually work with the Order when their next round of fighting starts up again. Someone to convince Poppy that she can’t remain neutral any longer- especially as she’s working through her grief and general dislike of so much fighting.
Poppy also sort of resents being at Hogwarts now that she’s grieving. I imagine she’s the sort to bottle her frustration up, so I bet that would be a damn good fight with Minerva at one point.
Would also love for Poppy to try to mentor or counsel a student who’s interested in a healing career.
headcanons ––
A career in medicine was always a given for Poppy. Her whole family are doctors, including both her mother (a hematologist), her father (a radiologist), and her two brothers (a pediatrician and a surgeon, respectively).

Congrats, Jenna, you have been accepted to AL for the role of Alecto Carrow (FC: Victoria Pedretti). Jenna!!! Wow, so excited that you’re picking up Alecto! She’s such a badass and I can’t wait to see her on the dash. Your biography of Alecto really draws out this character that’s so often one dimensional in this world. I think she’s going to add a lot of conflict to the gorup in the best way possible. EEp I’m PUMPED! Please send in your blog (no sideblogs for first characters, please) in the next 24 hours and be sure to take a look at our new player checklist. Welcome home (once again), we’re so excited to have you join the family!
OOC
name — jenna age — 20 pronouns — she/her timezone — gmt+10
IC Overview
name — alecto carrow age — 25 gender — cis female sexuality — bisexual patronus — non-corporeal, but it would take the form of a vulture. boggart — her brother lies dead at her feet, her parents standing above him, somehow more vicious looking than they are in reality. “it’s your fault,” they sneer, as alecto notices the blood on her hands.
IC In Depth
personality traits — ( + ) dedicated - though she may be dedicated to the wrong people and causes, Alecto is dedicated. If she decides she wants something, she will go after it with everything she had, and she won’t rest until whatever she wants is hers. Maybe it comes from the deep sense of entitlement she’s been raised with, or her insatiable need to be acknowledged and appreciated. ( + ) headstrong - Alecto has her opinions, and she won’t be swayed on them. She also will make them known, loudly, and publicly. She’s not a complete idiot, and has learnt to kept some of her more… unsavoury opinions under wraps since the end of the war, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t still believe them. ( + ) loyal - Though Alecto rarely gets close to people, those she decides she trusts have her undivided loyalty, especially to her brother. She also has a strong loyalty to the Dark Lord, still trying to find a way to bring him back even years after his defeat. ( - ) ruthless - This goes hand in hand with her dedication, Alecto will stop at nothing to get what she wants, including hurting ( or even killing ) people to get her way. ( - ) brash - She can be incredibly rude, overbearing, and obnoxious. She asserts herself over everyone and anything she believes to be beneath her, and often comes across quite poorly. ( - ) vicious - Alecto is a shark raised by sharks, you don’t grow up how she did without earning teeth of your own.
character biography —
Alecto Carrow was not a wanted child, this much has always been abundantly clear.
The marriage of Alecto’s parents was not one born of love or affection, but of duty. They both hailed from affluence, highly-regarded pureblooded families, and shared values typical of such a background. The sole purpose of their marriage was to produce an heir and perpetuate their bloodlines, nothing more, and nothing less. Only a year after their marriage, they had succeeded in this endeavour with the birth of their son, Amycus. He was exactly what they had wanted in a child; he was the perfect pureblood heir. Unfortunately, he would not be the only child the couple would sire.
Alecto was not expected. The exact nature of her conception remains elusive to this day. Some speculate that Alecto came into existence one night after her parents had a little too much to drink at one of their parties, falling into bed together before they could think about the consequences of what they were doing. They never wanted a second child, let alone a daughter, but, nine months later, they were one again at St Mungo’s awaiting Alecto’s arrival. Unlike her brother, Alecto was born screaming, demanding attention from the very moment her lungs were able to draw breath, turning her face red and angry with the effort of it. Maybe that’s where they got her name from – unceasing anger. She didn’t stop crying for almost a full day.
She was brought home from the hospital the next day and instantly thrust into the arms of awaiting nannies. To the Carrows, children weren’t something that required a lot of hands-on attention, they weren’t something to be cared for or raised carefully. They existed solely to preserve their legacy, and as long as they were capable of that, the rest of the day-to-day maintenance could be seen to by household staff. Alecto’s father had a job at the Ministry which kept him exceptionally busy, and her mother never worked, instead spending her days out fraternising with her peers and climbing up the social ladders of pureblood society. They paid little attention to Alecto, leaving her mostly neglected in her nursery, save for curious visits from her older brother, wanting to catch a glimpse of his new sibling.
The Carrow household was cruel and cold, and with their parents rarely around, Amycus and Alecto came to rely on one another. During her childhood, Alecto’s only solace was in her relationship with Amycus, despite both of them inheriting many of their parents’ less desirable qualities, the siblings had a close bond. They genuinely cared for each other, though they often had strange ways of showing it. There were few people who could truly understand the childhood that Alecto had experienced, and fewer still who could understand Alecto, but her brother has always been the closest. Alecto idolised her brother, she wanted to be just like him, and she his was the only direction she would follow without question.
Lessons for Amycus and Alecto began very early in life. Lessons on what to say, when to say it, and who to say it to. They were trained to hate anything that was different to them – and hate, Alecto would. Perhaps, had she been raised differently, she would have become a far more kind and empathetic soul, but, then again, this is perhaps a slight exaggeration. Something inside of her may have been broken from the beginning – she accepted the hate-filled ideas her parents presented her with. She accepted the prejudices, the fact that she was simply better than everyone else. That, because of the blood that ran through her veins, she deserved to have the world grovelling at her feet.
While Alecto took to her lessons of cruelty and superiority like a moth to a flame, there were other lessons she didn’t take quite so well to. For the most part, Amycus and Alecto were raised identically, but, as they grew a little older, their paths started to diverge. Amycus was the male heir, he was trained to carry the Carrow name with pride, while Alecto was taught to rid herself of it as soon as possible. Her parents intended for her to marry a nice young man ( preferably one from the shortlist of candidates they’d had picked since her birth ) as soon as she was of age – Alecto herself had different ideas.
The two years between Amycus leaving for Hogwarts and Alecto doing the same were two of the loneliest of her life. She became aware of how quiet their house was, without her brother in it. Her parents ignored her even further when Amycus wasn’t around, when she wasn’t sticking to him like gum to the bottom of a shoe. She tried her hardest to please them, but eventually realised that doing exactly what they wanted wasn’t working. So, like many neglected children, Alecto reached the conclusion that negative attention was better than no attention at all. She had always tried to tone down aspects of her personality to appease her parents, but Alecto wasn’t the porcelain doll they always wanted.
She was sent off to Hogwarts at eleven, and it was a breath of fresh air. She was sorted into Slytherin, like her brother before her, and quickly established herself within the cohort with her good looks and her strong opinions. It certainly helped her that she bore the same last name as her brother, who had already amassed a number of allies in the Slytherin dorms, simply adding his sister to his posse once she arrived. She was loud and unapologetic and gained herself a rather unsavoury reputation – but people couldn’t help but be enthralled by her. Much like at home, much of the attention was negative, but it was attention, and she would take it.
Though she always had a certain charm, a magnetism to her, Alecto never really played well with others. Her parents wanted her to be beautiful, charismatic, but submissive – capable of pleasing the sons of their friends. Submissive was the real problem. Even during her childhood, Alecto had cunning and ambition to rival the greatest of Slytherins, she was callous and brash. She met any attempts at courting from young men with a sneer, as she matured, she decided she found far greater pleasure from the physical relationship than an emotional one. Alecto was not at all like what her parents expected her to be in this regard, and they never made their displeasure a secret.
The war was something Alecto had always been ready for. Her parents had believed it was inevitable, that they would need to fight to rid the world of muggles and muggleborns once and for all, to ensure that only purebloods remained. They trained their children to believe the same. Alecto knew that she would one day need to fight, that she would be thrust into war. Her father insisted on special training to ensure she would be of use to their master – dark magic was something she became intimately familiar with when she came home for summers during her school years, training to withstand the cruciatus curse, to counter dark spells, to wield them herself.
While rumours of war that swirled around during her final years of Hogwarts set most people on edge, they simply invigorated Alecto. Amycus had already graduated, he was already doing his part, and Alecto desperately wanted to do the same. Though she had given up on winning the affections of her parents a long time ago, she wanted to please the Dark Lord, she wanted Amycus to be proud of her, and she wanted to do what she believed was the right thing. She grinned with maniacal glee as she received the dark mark – and if she saw her parents smile as she did so, she never mentioned the fact.
What she hadn’t been prepared for was losing. At the tender age of twenty, Alecto had never really known what it was to lose. On October 31st, 1981, she found out – and she didn’t like it. Nobody had anticipated that the Dark Lord would fall, least of all Alecto. Her parents immediately went into damage control, trying desperately to restore their name before the hammer fell. Their children wouldn’t be so lucky. It had been Amycus who suggested that only one of them needed to go to Azkaban – Alecto had first imagined it would be her, but Amycus took the fall for the both of them, accepting his sentence and insisting that Alecto keep herself out of it, to keep serving their master while he was away.
Not only had everything Alecto ever believed fallen apart, she’d lost her brother and her best friend, and, if his life sentence was to believed, she might not ever see him again.
Alecto had still been living with her parents at the time, but when she returned home after Amycus’ trial alone, she endured a wrath she could have only imagined up until that moment. It didn’t matter that it had been Amycus’ idea for her to walk free – they were furious that their male heir was to go away while they were given Alecto as, what? A consolation prize? Though she was fairly certain they’d calm down eventually, Alecto took the first opportunity she could to leave her parents’ house and get out on her own. She managed to secure herself a position at the Ministry, and has been doing her best to provide for herself in the years since her brother’s arrest. She may not be living the life they imagined for her, and they may vocalise their displeasure whenever she sees them, but it simply spurs Alecto on.
Alecto believes that the Lark Lord will return one day, and she intends to be the one to bring him back. She has been searching far and wide for any trace of her father, detailing her expedition in her letters to her brother. Of course, she has no idea where to begin. Her ‘search’ is more of a vague exploration, hoping against hope that she will stumble upon something. She’s trying to prove to herself, to her brother, to her parents, and to her peers, that Amycus made the right decision – that she’s better off on the outside, that by avoiding arrest, she can make use of herself and help bring back the Dark Lord. To Alecto, it’s almost like a race, and she thinks she’s vicious and scrappy enough to do what it takes.
She just hopes Amycus really did make the right decision.
plot ideas —
Amycus | Honestly, her relationship with her brother is probably the closest thing that Alecto has to a healthy relationship, and that’s saying a lot. The pair are still deeply dysfunctional - Alecto craves the validation she never received from her parents from her brother, and would literally follow him into hell. Letting him be imprisoned after the war was something that was incredibly difficult for her, so I’d love to explore how she’s been coping without her big brother’s guidance. She’s managed to get herself a fairly decent job and an apartment on her own.. did she ever really need him in the first place? I’d also love to see Amycus as a playable character in the future ( perhaps Alecto could even be involved in his breakout from Azkaban… hint hint ), to explore their dynamic properly, as well as how it has changed in the years they’ve been separated. Death Eaters | Alecto is on a quest to bring back Voldemort, and this probably isn’t a secret to anyone who she believes to be sympathetic to her cause. Of course, she doesn’t want any help because she wants the entirety of the credit for herself, but that doesn’t mean people aren’t curious about what exactly she’s doing ( please can somebody call her out on her stunning lack of progress? ). I’d also like to see her interact with some of the less loyal Death Eaters. She’s big on dedication and loyalty, and if she feels that there’s traitors in their midst, Alecto will not hesitate to make this known… or exploit it for her own gain. Ministry | Alecto works as an Obliviator for the Ministry. She’s not so stupid as to go around telling everyone that she’s an active supporter of You-Know-Who, but for anyone who was part of the Order ( or with any common sense ), it’s not hard to figure out where her loyalties lie – her brother is in Azkaban for being a Death Eater, and her parents are active pureblood supremacists. I’d like to see her trying to keep up appearances at the Ministry, interacting with former Order members or even muggleborns… how much will it take for her to crack?

extras that didn’t fit in the bio:
Parents. Alecto’s relationship with her parents has always been strained, however, over the last few years it has become even more so. They have made little secret of the fact that they would prefer Alecto be rotting in Azkaban than Amycus. Alecto doesn’t see them very often, and when she does, they’re trying to pressure her to marry a nice pureblood man before they’re all gone, or making her feel even worse about Amycus’ imprisonment. She still has a great deal of respect for her parents, but she knows they’ll never have a great relationship.
Residence. Alecto lives in a small apartment not far from Diagon Alley. It’s quite lavish, more than she should be able to afford with her salary, but she had considerable financial assistance when buying it… her parents couldn’t have her living on the street, could they?
Occupation. Alecto works as an Obliviator for the Ministry. She’s always been quite skilled with charms ( though she usually uses her skills for evil rather than good ), and her father had always told her that having a job at the Ministry was a good position to be in ( well, he’d said her husband should have a job at the Ministry, close enough ). She doesn’t enjoy having to interact with muggles… but she does enjoy robbing them of their memories.
Romance. Alecto isn’t one for commitment, but she learnt young that her looks were a powerful weapon, and one she wields expertly. She likes to toy with people, and she’s not fussed about anything so trivial as gender ( blood status is the only thing that matters to her ). She’s never considered herself bisexual, much less put a public label on it, but if she gave it any thought, that’s probably the conclusion she’d arrive at. She’s never told her parents about her relationships with women, and has no intention to.

personality traits —
( + ) intelligent - Mary has always been described as book smart, though she has other kinds of intelligence in equal amounts. She has a strong sense of self-preservation ( street smarts ! ), but also emotional intelligence. She’s quite perceptive to other people’s feelings, even if she does sometimes ignore them. ( + ) tenacious - Mary likes things to be done a certain way ( read: the right way ), and will make this abundantly clear to anyone who meets her. She’s a very determined person once she sets her mind on something, and her tenacity has helped her to get to where she is in her career. ( + ) resilient - Though it might not seem like it, Mary is a rather resilient person. She tries not to let things get to her ( or, at least, let people know that things get to her ), and has spent the last decade or so trying to rebuild herself from the lowest point of her life, managing to create a beautiful life for herself in the process. ( - ) cynical - While she wasn’t always this way, Mary is very much a glass half empty person. She doesn’t actively try to be this way, but she rarely gives people the benefit of the doubt and tends to see the worst in them. This way, at least, she’s not disappointed. ( - ) reticent - Getting Mary to talk about her emotions is like pulling teeth. She’s never been good at it, especially not with showing vulnerability. She can sometimes open up to people she really feels safe with, but at this stage of her life, the only person who satisfies that criteria is Reginald. ( - ) tense - Mary is an extremely anxious person. Has been compared to a rubber band that’s been pulled too far on a number of occasions. She worries about everything, and calls it preparedness, though it’s not quite so healthy as that.
character biography —
Mary Macdonald was always too much for the life she was born into. A baby girl, born to perfectly ordinary parents, in a perfectly ordinary house on a perfectly ordinary street. One would expect Mary herself to also be perfectly ordinary, but she refused to let this be the case. Mary grew interested in fiction at a young age, graduating from picture story books to fantasy novels before starting primary school, her tiny mind enchanted by the tales of far off worlds, filled with knights and dragons and fairies and wizards. She never quite fit in with her peers – growing up in a small town outside of Dublin, she looked quite different to most of the other children she encountered. She didn’t make friends easily, and real life never satisfied her the way that stories did, and so she indulged in fiction. When she was younger, she managed to enchant them with her stories. However, as she grew older, the fantasies that she refused to let go of lead her towards ostracisation.
Like all young witches and wizards, Mary received her letter from Hogwarts when she was eleven years old. What she at first assumed was a cruel prank from some of the meaner children at her school, Mary soon realised was anything but. Suddenly, she was being thrust into a world that didn’t make much sense to her, but one she was determined to make her own. Strolling down Diagon Alley for the first time, Mary felt as though she could be at home among her fellow witches and wizards, though her parents bestowed to her an air of caution as they hurried along behind her, this new world equally as frightening to them as it was exhilarating to Mary. She didn’t fit in much among her peers at school, but she imagined that Hogwarts might represent a new start, a place she could finally feel like she belonged.
Sorted into Gryffindor, Mary would soon learn that the wizarding world was not all sunshine and daisies. She should have known better, that just because these people were different, it didn’t mean they would be any less cruel. A muggleborn, she was – a term she’d never encountered before, but one that seemed to follow her around like a dark aura, some of her peers staring down their noses at her as she asked questions to get her mind around an entirely new world. What may have deterred other children simply spurred Mary on – they didn’t think she was capable of being an accomplished witch, they didn’t think she was worthy of exisiting in their precious pureblood world? She would have to show them differently.
It took her a little time, but she managed to make friends with a few other girls in her year – Lily Evans being one of the first. She found it easier to relate to her fellow muggleborn than to many of her other peers, both navigating this foreign world together. It didn’t take long for Mary to start to feel at ease within the walls of Hogwarts, a feeling she’d never really experienced before. She started to wear her title of muggleborn proudly, boasting gifts that her parents gave her over the holidays – many of which were entirely foreign to her pureblood counterparts. She began to excel in classes, always ready with an opinion on whatever it was they were learning, and even made her house’s Quidditch team for a little while. Hogwarts became like a sanctuary for Mary, a place where she could spread her wings and fly.
Of course, much like the mighty Icarus, there was only so long she could soar before she fell.
Mulciber ( that is all she will refer to him as these days ) was someone Mary believed to be thoroughly unassuming at first. Their initial encounter would hardly have been memorable at all, if not for what came next. It seemed harmless enough as the older boy asked about her parents, as he commented on her confidence, on the way she had an opinion on just about everything in his world. Mary thought nothing of it until she encountered him again on the way back to her dormitory after a late night study session in the library, the boy standing in one of the courtyards, wearing the darkness as a cloak. He looked far taller than he had the first time they’d met, far more sinister. What Mary had done to deserve the cruciatus curse alluded her until it was over and she heard the world ‘mudblood’ spat down at her trembling form on the ground as Mulciber retreated. She’s still not sure how long she lay there before she was found, fading in and out of consciousness, body too wrecked to move, voice to shot to call for help.
She awoke at St Mungo’s two days later. Though the attack had left her with no physical scars, Mary’s hands shook for days. She withdrew into herself more and more as the weeks stretched on, retiring from the Quidditch team, refusing to speak up during class, and rushing back to her dorm as soon as classes were over, barely even eating or sleeping, though she insisted she was fine. Though her friends tried to help, Mary feared there was little to be done, it took her days before she could even speak to them, and never about what had happened. She’d never been made to feel so weak in her life, to feel as though she wasn’t worthy of practicing magic. And if this boy had felt that she was unworthy, who was to say that the rest of the wizarding community didn’t feel the same way?
As time went on, Mary went about the meticulous and time-consuming process of rebuilding herself back from the ground up. It was much the same as reassembling a statue that had been smashed to pieces, but she figured if she used just the right amount of patience and glue, she could create something passingly similar to the original. Though Mary wanted to forget all about what had happened, it seemed that nobody else did. Pressure to talk about the issue, to confront what had happened was bad enough, without the gawking eyes of her peers and the rumours of what had truly happened swirling around Hogwarts like a plague. People started treating her differently after that day, as though she were fragile, made of glass, about to break. Even her friends treated her with an air of apprehension, watching their words in a way they never used to, not wanting to cross any lines or upset Mary.
The only one, it seemed, who still treated Mary as a real person was Reginald Cattermole. She had to admit, she had never really taken much notice of the Hufflepuff during their earlier years at Hogwarts, though it seemed he had taken an interest in her. The first interaction which she remembers distinctly happened a few months after she was released from St Mungo’s. Her friends had been smothering her with concern and she had felt the need to escape from the Gryffindor common room, heading to the library to study. Reggie had asked to sit with her, and while she was hesitant – thinking he would ask about her attack, like most strangers tended to – but he didn’t mention it. In fact, they had a perfectly pleasant conversation, she thinks it was about Quidditch, but the topic hardly mattered. What mattered was how it made Mary feel, she remembers laughing for the first time in months, opening up again more quickly than she had ever expected to. She felt like a semblance of herself again.
Mary always knew war was looming just on the horizon – she herself was more familiar with this concept than most. She also knew that her friends had every intention of fighting whatever unseen foes threatened their safety. Before her attack, she’d possessed this same drive. This same urgency to fix problems far greater than herself. She had once discussed joining the fight with enthusiasm among her friends, a deep, burning passion to defend the world she cherished. After her attack, all this changed. At first, her friends were reluctant to include her in conversations about the fight, not after what she’d experienced, she needed time to heal. After her attack, she no longer felt safe in the wizarding community, she no longer felt welcomed. This world had spat her out in the cruelest way possible… she didn’t know if she had the courage to defend it anymore. She’d been a victim of this war once, she didn’t want to be one again.
Mary and Reggie married less than a year after graduating from Hogwarts. Some people might have said it was fast, but with war looming closer by the day, their lives seemed impossibly short, and Mary knew what she wanted. Reggie was the one person she felt really saw her, believed in her for who she was. He was the only person who could make her feel safe, who could comfort her when she awoke during the night bathed in cold sweat, screaming after a nightmare. He told silly jokes and he made her laugh like nobody else, and he was the love of her life, she was sure of it. She remembers the day they married with great fondness, and not just because of the celebration itself. It was a small ceremony, just family and a few friends from school, and looking back on it, it was probably the last time that Mary was with all of her friends. The last time they laughed and drank and sang together, before the war started taking casualties.
Mary’s decision not to fight didn’t come all at once. She’s a loyal creature, and she desperately wanted to be there for her friends, but in the end, fear won out. Mary had been hurt by dark wizards before, she knew what they were capable of, and it wasn’t just her life at stake, it was the life of her new husband, of her parents, of her friends. At first, she tried staying in contact with her friends, checking in on them, trying to help out in small ways, however she could, without formally aligning herself with the Order or participating in any of the fighting. This changed when she found out she was pregnant. Though her first daughter wouldn’t be born until December of 1981, the moment she found out that she was expecting, Mary’s decision about the war was final. Though her daughter hadn’t even yet been born, she couldn’t risk anything happening to her, and she lost contact with many of her friends following her decision.
The years since the end of the war have been lonely for Mary. Though she’s tried to reach out to her former friends, she knows they didn’t support her decision to stay out of the fight, and don’t to this day. She feels awful for the things that happened, for Lily, in particular, who she had once considered her dearest friend, but she stands by her decision. She couldn’t risk anything similar happening to her or her family. She and Reggie live a fairly modest life, Mary secured a position in Wizengamot Administration Services a couple of years after Maisie was born, and has been there ever since, though currently only in a part time capacity. Their second daughter, Ellie, was born in 1984, much to the chagrin of her older sister.
The simple, domestic life was never something Mary had imagined for herself, but she loves being a mother, and she loves her husband more with each passing day. While her job can be tedious at times, she enjoys this, too, she feels as though she’s helping to bring about justice – even if it is a few years too late. Of course, there’s always a lingering sense of doubt that things aren’t quite as picture-perfect as they seem. There will always be dark witches and wizards, people who want to see witches like her dead, and Mary lives in fear of a resurgence of the kind of war that they left behind only a few short years ago. Making the decision not to fight was heartbreaking enough the first time around, she’s not sure she has the strength to do it again.

Reginald | I really would love to explore Mary’s relationship with her husband!! I’ve never played Mary any older than her early twenties before, so I’d love to be able to dive into what has happened to her over the last six or so years, and how her husband has factored into this. Obviously they have two children together, how do they parent? Mary has been isolated from her friends since the war ended, so how has this affected her marriage? He’s pretty much the only person she feels safe and happy around, let me see it!! This is just such a rich area and definitely a lot of room to explore. Old friends | So, Mary went and disapp
eared in the middle of a war to protect herself and her family, how has this affected her former friendships? Though Mary stands by what she did, it wasn’t easy for her, and she desperately wants to be able to return to the way things were, and to have her old friends back. Mary can be quite stubborn, though, and probably defensive over the fact that they don’t forgive her right away, so definitely room for some tension and drama™.
War 2: Electric Boogaloo | Obviously Mary has no idea that there’s even the slightest chance that Voldemort could return, but this doesn’t stop her worrying about it. Though she’s more worried about his former allies rallying and trying again than an actual Voldy return, what would happen if her worst fears are realised? If she has to chose whether or not to fight again, will she make the same decision? I could really see it going either way, but I’d love for her to rebuild her friendships and relationships with the Order to the point where if Voldemort returned, she would be willing to stand up and fight and give her daughters a future to believe in.

We’re so excited to have you join our group and happy that you’re so enthusiastic about it! I loved your application for Moody and where you see him coming from as a person. I think he’s going to add so much to our group and I can’t wait to see this grumpy gus husband of minnie’s on the dash! Please send in your blog (no sideblogs for first characters, please) in the next 24 hours and be sure to take a look at our new player checklist. Welcome home, we’re so excited to have you join the family!

name — Ashley age — 25 pronouns — She/her timezone — EST activity level — My activity ranges depending on the day. I work a full-time job which includes 12+ hour shifts so there are some days when I’m not on until after a shift or only available mobile. However, I’m always available on my days off unless I run into other plans. I would say my activity level ranges on a scale of 5-7. any questions? — Thank you for considering my application !!
IC Overview
name — Alastor Alexander Mcallister Moody faceclaim — (i rly love the idea of Tim Daly, but he has 0 resources, if you have any suggestions for resources let me know !!) Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Ewan McGregor, David Tennant, Oscar Isaac age — 48 years old; 12 April gender — Cismale sexuality — Bisexual patronus — Eagle boggart — Lord Voldemort. If anyone else asked, Alastor would claim that he doesn’t have a boggart because he isn’t afraid of anything. However, his boggart is the one person that Alastor is actually afraid of. The one person that he would have loved to be the one to end himself.
IC In Depth
personality traits —
(+) Brave – Alastor knew from a young age what his future had in store for him and he never once shied away from his destiny. Coming from a long line of aurors, he knew that one day he’d be one himself. His father taught him that fear was a weakness. That it had no place in an auror. Moody faces some of the world’s most dangerous criminals without batting so much as batting an eye. He faces down his enemies and to this day no one has beat his record for the most captured Death Eaters placed in Azkaban.
(+) Confident – He knows that he is the best that there is. Alastor has honed his skill and he has practiced all of his life to do exactly what he’s doing now. There’s a reason he believes that his ideas are (usually) the only ones that matter.
(-) Paranoid – Alastor trusts only a handful of people. Within that handful, the only person he truly trusts is Minerva. He has a very paranoid disposition, rarely trusting others – no matter how dedicated to the cause they may be. He often carries around his own flask to drink from and rarely eats meals that are prepared by others due to a distrust of being poisoned.
(-) Inflexible – That being said, Alastor has a difficult time bending to others wills. Whenever he gets a thought in his head or an idea, he prefers to run with it because he assumes that he knows best. He doesn’t like to listen to others and sometimes feels that it is a waste of time.
character biography — (all of this information is redacted because Alastor destroyed all of his records)
Alastor’s future was decided for him before he was even conceived. Coming from a long line of aurors, he had a lot to live up to. From the moment that he could walk and talk, Alastor was learning how to live up to his parent’s name. He was learning how to be better. It started with lessons from his father. Alastor would sit at his feet and listen as his father told him his most exciting and dangerous stories. His mother taught him how to read and gave him books which taught him more. By the time that Alastor was shipped off to Hogwarts, it was clear that his parents were expecting big things.
When the sorting hat was placed on his head, it had a decision to make. Take this boy’s bravery and place him into Gryffindor or listen to his wit and place him in Ravenclaw. In the end, Alastor was placed in Gryffindor. During his school years, Alastor met Minerva who became his adversary. The two argued about everything and he found her to be a pain in the ass. It was no surprise that years later, he should fall in love with her. In his sixth year, his mother and father were murdered on a mission, but Alastor never showed any signs of grief. He merely put his frustration and emotions into his training. Another reason to persevere. During, this time, he continued to keep his eye on the prize and scored an ‘exceeds expectations’ on five out of 6 of his N.E.W.T.S. He began training as an auror the moment that he stepped out of Hogwarts and into the real world.
With as much confidence as Alastor has in his abilities, to some he may come off as conceded. He doesn’t listen to other people’s opinions, however, and often fights with everything in him. He has a terrible time showing his true emotions and often stands guarded even around those that he trusts the most. He doesn’t cope well and usually uses alcohol to cope. Alastor is considered to be one of the most successful aurors, having contributed to more than half of the population of Death Eaters in Azkaban. He prefers not to kill or use the unforgivable curses, but he does what he has to do.
When Voldemort fell, Alastor didn’t believe it. There’s a part of him that still doesn’t believe it. He doesn’t like peace; it makes his fake leg hurt more. Alastor leads the auror’s office with an iron hand. He doesn’t like the politics of it so much, but he prefers to have a say in how his co-workers are trained. In addition to this, he leads the Order with Minerva and Kingsley. He has opinions which he rarely stays quiet about but sometimes he has a difficult time convincing others to believe in his opinion.
plot ideas —
(1): I didn’t include Alastor losing his eye because I would love for it to be potentially included within a plot and to get to explore that particular plot !! I think that it would be interesting to see how he deals with losing his eye and then the prosthesis after
(2): I would also love to explore his more paranoid side and possibly see him get into trouble for sticking his nose where it doesn’t belong and/or causing trouble due to a miscommunication

Congrats, Steph, you have been accepted to AL for the role of Remus Lupin (FC: Ross Butler). Steph, wow, what a great application! I think it can be really easy for Remus to be portrayed only one way, and I’m so excited to see how you explored his differences in this storyline. He’s really hurting and bitter because of the betrayal of his friends, and that is going to be such an interesting thing to see played out. With the way you got into his head, I have full confidence that you’ll do that really well! Please send in your blog (no sideblogs for first characters, please) in the next 24 hours and be sure to take a look at our new player checklist.Welcome home, we’re so excited to have you join the family!

name — Steph age — 26 pronouns — she/her timezone — GMT+1 activity level — I work in a supermarket which is very busy at the moment, so won’t get on every day necessarily but will be around a few times a week easily, particularly afternoon UK time.
IC Overview
name — Remus Lupin age — 26 gender — Male (he/him) sexuality — Gay (closeted)
patronus — Wolf. Remus hates that the animal which best represents his soul is the one which has defined his life in such a negative way. Therefore, he never casts a corporeal patronus when he summons one.
boggart — The Full Moon. This is representative of Remus’ fear of what he becomes each month, his dread of each upcoming full moon and the way each that has passed leaves scars mental as well as physical.
IC In Depth
personality traits —
+ selfless: Remus would do anything for his friends no matter the cost to him.
+ compassionate: Possibly an odd trait for somebody known as a prankster, Remus sees the good in those around him and empathises with them. He would take the side of an underdog over the easier but less righteous choice. His compassionate nature has also helped him to forgive people when they have done wrong in the past, in particular Sirius after the incident of Severus Snape and the Whomping Willow. However, forgiving himself and forgiving Sirius again after the breakdown of the Marauders feels impossible.
+ astute: While Remus generally has to work at being book smart, his sharp perception of the world comes naturally. He can think quickly and intuitively to turn a situation to his advantage, whether that is in finding loopholes for the next marauder prank, in assessing a situation that might be about to turn sour or in identifying somebody who needs a word of encouragement.
- people pleaser: In school, this manifested in Remus’s tendency to look the other way when the other Marauders are breaking rules. He would not participate if he didn’t really agree with what they were doing but he certainly didn’t do anything to stop or stand up to his friends. The biggest threat to his self-esteem is the idea of being unwanted, unloved, or a disappointment.
- self-deprecating: Remus hates everything that reminds him of his lycanthropy, especially the parts of his personality which are shaped by his condition. Though the support of his friends has helped him come to terms with his fate in the past, Remus has always been prone to some doubt and shame over the werewolf part of him. Knowing that Sirius lost trust in him was hard for him but now he almost accepts it as inevitable because he doesn’t feel like he deserved the friendship of the Marauders in the first place.
- vengeful: While Remus will forgive somebody for one wrong if they show contrition, if somebody earns his anger then they should beware. On the wrong side of him, Remus is a force to be reckoned with.
character biography —
(Tws: illness, smoking-related illness, death, depression, poverty and homelessness)
From the night he was bitten, Remus grew up in isolation units and hospital wards and the confining four walls of his bedroom. His life would forever be shaped by that monthly pattern and a fear of others finding out. His home-schooling involved not just basic numeracy and literacy but also astronomy and muggle physics and an extensive education into what it meant to be a werewolf. Every last galleon that they owned went into searching for a cure or moving to another town after their latest neighbours started to suspect something was amiss with the family, a few spare coins each month for each of their vices: Lyall’s italian coffee and books, cigarettes and music records for Hope, and chocolate frogs and colouring pencils for remus. In between other lessons, Lyall Lupin did everything he could to ensure Remus would be prepared for a nomadic adulthood — a life on the streets, friendless and penniless — deaf to Hope’s pleas that they try and help him get back to some notion of a normal life.
Hope’s wish finally came true in the form of Professor Dumbledore, not long since appointed as headmaster of Hogwarts, showing up on their doorstep. Remus was so excited to go to school that he barely noticed his parents’ worried exchanges and fears. It was only later, when Remus started to compare the next year’s full moons to his new school calendar that it dawned on him just how complicated this would be. It was his mother who suggested that he could say she had a chronic illness and that he was visiting her whenever there was a Full Moon but he had not known James Potter, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew for long before he realised they would not buy that as a reason for skipping classes or being absent from the dorm every month like clockwork. Remus, glad to finally have friends and terrified he would lose them if they found out the truth, made up different and increasingly more elaborate stories but he wasn’t a good enough liar to hide from his best friends.
The four of them grew closer than Remus could have ever hoped for. They accepted him and supported him. They helped him keep his secret from their other classmates and they were constantly coming up with ways to make things easier for him, whether it was ensuring he didn’t fall behind in classes or sneaking him sweets and tea the morning after a transformation. They learnt to become animagi and Remus couldn’t be more grateful.
Everything seemed to go wrong at once. a betrayal from his best of friends — his only friends — revealing the secret his life had been devoted to keeping for the purpose of playing a cheap and fatal prank on Snape. Remus felt convinced all three of them were in on it because they always were. He avoided and argued and was the most miserable he had been since starting Hogwarts. It was during this period of low that he had a careers meeting that highlighted how dim his prospects after school would be and remus was reminded of what his father had tried to impress on him all these years — that werewolves weren’t supposed to have the sort of life he had been playing at, with education and friends and happiness. The next full moon was during the Easter holidays and unable to bear sitting in the Shrieking Shack alone, he went home. He asked his parents why him. Unable to fob him off with any more half-truths or excuses, his father finally opened up about Greyback. Remus had to hear how his father had once held the same prejudices about werewolves as the rest of the wizarding world and make his own conclusion that maybe he still did. After all, he had almost stopped Remus from living his life after the bite, no matter how much he claimed it was for Remus’ own good. The resulting argument was brutal but soon cut short by hacking coughs and Lyall turning on his wife and snapping at her to stop smoking those damn things. Her hand was shaking as she ignored him and tried to light the cigarette anyway. Remus noticed for the first time that she looked very ill, so ill that his using her as an excuse all those months appeared to be coming back to bite him.
They had been his first ever friends and when Remus returned to school he knew he could avoid them no longer. He needed them. Life would be much too lonely without them, especially if Hope’s days were numbered and, besides, he had grown too used to their being by his side during transformations. He refused to let them talk about it, insisting he didn’t want to relive it when in fact a part of him was worried that talking it through would remind him how betrayed he had felt. He reminded himself of what he had always believed: that he wasn’t good enough for them. That he was nothing more than a monster and at least he should be grateful that they still wanted his friendship. He was indebted to them. How could he keep pushing them away when they equalled the happiest moments of his life so far? Even with that awful incident, none of them were a part of the worst moments of his life. So, he let them fall back together and patch up the cracks in their friendship with jokes and pranks and throwing themselves towards war, knowing that it didn’t matter to him how they felt. They could pity him and fear him and be prepared to brush him away without a second thought again. He would die for them anyway.
Life after Hogwarts was predictably difficult. Employers wizarding and muggle alike did not look kindly on him taking sick leave less than a month after being hired and inevitably after the second Full Moon he was circling ads in the newspaper again. It wasn’t long before the Order of the Phoenix became his primary concern and though the very thought of seeing Greyback again made him felt akin to walking into hell, he found himself accepting the mission of the Order’s spy amongst the werewolves. Only Dumbledore knew the task he was undertaking, the majority of the Order having no idea of his condition and those who did he was forbidden to talk to them about it. Remus started to slip away from himself. He was incredibly lonely without being able to talk to his best friends and each minute with the werewolves brought more danger, more emotional strain, and more questions about whether he had ever really deserved his years pretending to be a normal wizard. The werewolves he had befriended didn’t understand why he would want to live amongst humans and there were others who would never be friendly with him as long as that was the case.
By 1981, Remus felt completely isolated. His mother died early in the year and his relationship with his father was worse than ever. Transformations with the Marauders were a distant memory and instead he spent his Full Moons forced into a life of violence he had always been determined to avoid. He barely saw any of the Order outside of meetings and his attendance at those was becoming increasingly difficult. When he did come back, it was hard to know his place in the meetings, unable to talk about what he had been doing and knowing so little about everybody else’s lives. Only Peter seemed to remember that he was missing so much and made a point of keeping Remus in the loop but so often that consisted of lost lives and disappearances and Remus came to dread the times he would sneak away from the packs. Talks of spies did not help. It was impossible for Remus to think of any of the Order as betraying them and he told the group as much, fiercely insisting that this was what the Death Eaters wanted — for them to be torn apart by their own paranoia.
So distant from it all, Remus did not realise how guilty he had made himself look until after it all was over. James was in hospital, basically gone, and Peter in Azkaban and it had only happened because Sirius suspected Remus. Fleeing from the werewolves the moment word reached him that the war was over turned out to be a bad idea because all of a sudden Remus found himself with nothing. The friendless and penniless life of the streets that his father had prepared him for was now a reality and he would rather sleep rough than face the guilt that if he had been there, if he had just disobeyed Dumbledore enough to tell the Marauders what he was involved in, if he had been a better friend to Peter, maybe none of this would have happened. It was better than facing Sirius, who was the one person he thought would understand that Remus could never betray them.
plot ideas —
I have always imagined James to be the one who is able to ground Remus and keep him together so without him there, Remus has spiralled. The memory of the Marauders is something bitter now, with Peter’s betrayal and the gaping hole that James leaves and this is a big part of Remus not making an effort to reconnect with Sirius. He definitely spends a lot of time next to James’ bed in St Mungo’s. Even now, if he needs to talk to someone, James is his first port of call. Remus’s certainty that James is never coming back means sometimes he will say things he wouldn’t voice otherwise. Maybe if James does wake up, he heard more than Remus wanted him to.
I would love some other werewolves and some plots involving those werewolves Remus did befriend during the war. He almost feels guilty for liking and empathising with some of them and hates that he relates to them but it had been nice to have people who really understood.
He’s trying to act like his life isn’t falling apart around him for Harry’s sake and so that he can still see Harry while trying to hold both Lily and Sirius at a distance. This will involve a lot of pretending that things aren’t as bad as they really are, that he can manage Full Moons alone and that he is finding legitimate ways to get a proper meal between offers of charity from old friends.
The love he once had for the Marauders is difficult to define. They were his found family and his brothers, the first friends he ever had, the only people he trusted with his whole self. The battle to come to terms with himself not only as a werewolf but a gay werewolf was something he never fully managed though had there been no war the Marauders would have got him there eventually. Now, he’s left wondering where the lines are between platonic and romantic love. The men in his life have been nothing but sex, his ability to trust having been broken too far for anything more. In terms of ships, Remus will be slow to get into anything and it would have to be based on chemistry and a gradual building of trust. He might wonder sometimes if he was in love with James though that is mostly because in his anger at Peter and Sirius he has transferred all the love he held for the Marauders as a unit onto James to make it easier to process the betrayal. It’s no longer the three of them he is grateful to for making Hogwarts the best seven years of his life, but James. No longer the three of them who made him feel worthy of love and friendship but James. In believing that, he can almost cope.
If he’s going to accept help from anybody these days it will be someone who was less a part of the war and who doesn’t have their own family to think about. Much as he values people like Mary and Frank for sticking by him through all the lowest points of his depression, they have their own lives away from him, their own children to consider and Remus feels guilty whenever they express any concern for him. I’d love for him to develop a friendship with someone who makes it easier for him to let others help him, and who might be able to offer him a place to stay more permanently.
extra —
in terms of the canon that Remus believed Sirius to be the spy, I’ve always headcanoned that as being after the war. He apologised to Sirius because he believed the world when they told him Sirius had betrayed the Potters but I can’t see Remus as having suspected that beforehand. I can’t see Remus being able to think badly of the three boys who became animagi for him, not until it’s all too late. Also, I have a general pinterest board for Remus here, though it includes things from various RPs

Probably not every day, but certainly multiple times per week! any questions? — nope, everything looks super great!
IC Overview
name — Lucius Abraxas Malfoy age — 31 gender — gender-fluid…not that Lucius has the words for that, but he knows how he feels and he’s never bothered to fuss about it. Lucius has always been supremely confident in himself (and herself – although again, he lacks the awareness of gender that would let him understand that his feelings about “his” gender sometimes fit other pronouns better than the ones he was assigned at birth, so he only ever uses him – even when he doesn’t feel like a him) and the only downside to that is that his confidence arrogance honestly blinds him a little bit to the nuances of his own identity – because he’s Lucius Malfoy. There’s no room for figuring out any other details of identity next to that. The upside to his confidence, of course, is that he doesn’t hesitate to express himself in whatever way feels most comfortable, no matter how other people might react – so if some days he’d rather wear robes more suited to a witch, or deck himself out in his late mother’s finest jewelry, or paint his face with the finest make-up…he’ll just do it. Why not? He is who he is, and Lucius has never apologized for that…well, not and meant it anyway! sexuality — pansexual…which again, he lacks the terminology for. Yes, the word itself was coined in 1917, but it was coined by Muggles; even if it’s made its way into the Wizarding World by now, it wouldn’t have made its way to Lucius…not that he needs it. Lucius isn’t the sort who requires a label to know himself, and he simply never cared about gender. His orientation might be better described as “pretty-sexual” because he’s shallow as anything; it’s just not gender that affects his interests. In fact, he thinks the way some people let something as silly and pointless as gender dictate their attraction is just absurd – and he won’t hesitate to share that fact. patronus — peacock (because of course, right?) although usually noncorporeal…not that Lucius doesn’t have happy memories, because he certainly does; conjuring the patronus isn’t a difficulty. Keeping the patronus conjured when in the face of something nasty is where he falters – because Lucius has always been a little bit spineless. He’s better at the Dark Arts than the Light, because it’s easier to force negative emotions than positive ones; he’s happy when he feels happy, but he’s adept at using anger and hate even when he’s not feeling them. He can compartmentalize extremely well (hence his positively artful mastery of the Imperius Curse) but he’s never learned to fake happy. Lucius either wears a completely opaque mask or wears his feelings right out on his sleeve – no in between. And a patronus requires a bit of that in between, remembering happy even when you’re scared or angry and not just in an “oh I wish” sense, but in an yes I was happy then, I can be happy right not thinking about it again and that’s not something he does well. So his patronus is weak…but then again, with the spells he knows, what does he need a patronus for anyway? boggart — dog…a great slavering, drooling, barking, tooth-bared beast, filthy and matted with blood on its lips and frenzy in its eyes. It’s anyone’s guess whether he’s more afraid of the teeth or the threat of muck from the filthy in its fur – Lucius certainly isn’t telling. He’s good at compartmentalizing fear, anyway, so boggarts don’t cause him much trouble. One quick Riddikulus and the beast’s legs drop off and its teeth fall out, and it falls helpless and yelping to the ground, frenzy replaced by confusion and fear. Maybe that wouldn’t be a funny enough sight for most people – they’d probably turn it into a toy dog, squeaking and colorful, or maybe tie it up in bright ribbon or something cutesy like that – but Lucius’s sense of humor, while sharp, is also a bit dark. He thinks it’s hilarious. He won’t be laughing so hard later, probably – because the war is coming back, and this time Lucius has more to lose than he did when he first donned that silver mask. The first time he sees his son’s broken body before him, he’ll understand how normal people feel when they face a boggart: shaken, terrified, hollow. And not even his clever wits will be able to quickly conjure a way to make that funny. But that’s later; for now, it’s still the ugly dog and the cruel laughter engendered by its plight.

personality traits — at least two positive and two negative, explain
Loyal – there are people who call Lucius a snivelling, spineless coward who would betray anybody to save his own skin, and they’re not wrong…except the part about him betraying anybody. Lucius is extremely loyal, but only to those whom he deems most important to him: his family. The Malfoys have always put family first – to the lengths of being willing to sacrifice their own ambitions (and even lives) for the sake of the greater name and lineage. Like many of the old, insular pure-blood families, their members have a tendency to be sorted into the same Hogwarts House as those who came before – but it’s not as universal a thing as it is with some and if a Malfoy isn’t going to be in Slytherin, it’s a pretty safe bet to put your money on them being in Hufflepuff. Indeed, it took the Sorting Hat a good two minutes to decide where to put young Lucius (and it was his innate laziness that ultimately kept him out of the cellars; while he certainly has drive and it more than willing to work hard to achieve his goals, if there’s an easy way out Lucius won’t hesitate to take that instead). He would do anything, sacrifice anything, for those who are most precious to him; his loyalty to them is boundless. Too bad for the rest of the world that that means he won’t hesitate to sacrifice them for the sake of those he loves, too – and that the number of people who truly matter above all else is so small: one wife, one son. Even his own father goes on the list of “potential sacrifice” if need be to keep Draco and Narcissa safe. Good thing Abraxas is a Malfoy, too; the old man might be a terror, but he understands that sort of family loyalty too.
Arrogant – Lucius went most of his life not just thinking but knowing that there was no one in the world who could compare to him. These days, he knows there are two people who are better: his son and his wife. And no one else even holds a candle to the three of them. It’s more than just confidence; it’s an absolute, unshakable belief in his own superiority. (Daddy’s lectures about Malfoys being better than everyone else took hold a little too well.) Time ought to have at least tempered if not punctured this bubble, but alas, Lucius is talented enough that he managed to escape the cold dose of reality that often undercuts the insufferable. He did learn how to ingratiate himself (a talent acquired mostly through the simple expedient of being so much younger than the majority of the people he was trying to impress) to the point of obsequiousness, at times – but just because Lucius is kneeling and begging and sniveling for his life doesn’t mean he doesn’t still think he’s better than you. He has a knack for compartmentalizing that makes him extremely gifted at mental magicks like Legilimency and Occlumency, but that same knack has a detrimental impact on his character as well: because he’s so good at it, he can even compartmentalize reality when it conflicts with his convictions. When Lucius is shown-up at something, instead of questioning whether he really is as good as he thinks he is, he finds ways to dismiss it – there were extenuating circumstances, maybe, or it’s a skill that isn’t all that important anyway, etc. So even when he’s been badly humbled, his confidence shattered, his arrogance remains. Even in defeat, Lucius knows he’s still better than the people who beat him. That’s just who he is.
Clever – Call him shrewd, observant, manipulative, even machiavellian – Lucius is all those things. He is a talented, quick-witted wizard with few (if any) scruples. He can talk his way out of trouble almost as fast as he can think his way out of said trouble, lightning-quick and eloquent. He’s already ready with a barb or a drawling retort, as quick with a jibe as he is with a jinx. In part, it’s a natural talent – and in part it’s because Lucius views the whole world as a sort of game, one that he’s been practicing all his life. Even now, having lived through the horrors of a war, he still looks at the world as a game – and games can be won. (He’s the sort of player who cheats, too, and doesn’t see anything wrong with that; everybody is cheating, after all. It’s just a matter of who does it better, and who’s clumsy enough to get caught…and dumb enough to let getting caught be a problem instead of the next step in the game.) Perhaps that’s why he so rarely wakes up screaming, when by all rights he ought to suffer from daily nightmares after the things he’s seen – the things he’s done. But Lucius doesn’t have a guilty conscience. (There are some who say he doesn’t have a conscience at all.) Anyone he hurt has themselves to blame as much as him, after all; if they’d been better at the game, they’d have been able to protect themselves, like he did. He was clever enough to talk his way into Voldemort’s inner circle; clever enough to talk his way out of Azkaban; clever enough see which way the wind was blowing after the war and pivot to a new role that would carry him further than his old reputation – not that he doesn’t still make sure of some of that; having people half-convinced that you could Curse them as easily as you charm them with your honeyed words comes in handy…and Lucius could. He’s an exceptionally adept wizard, especially in certain useful areas of magic; he could get his way through force a lot more often than he does…but it’s more fun to charm and cajole instead.
Callous – You can’t even call it selfishness, although Lucius is selfish – albeit generous with friends, allies, and those he’s trying to sucker…but giving away gold and gifts and grandiose praise doesn’t cost him anything; petty selfishness is a different thing entirely. No, Lucius is callous not because he’s greedy (he has enough that he can afford not to act greedy and still satiate his greed) but because he doesn’t care about other people. Oh, he can put on an appearance of sympathy with the best of them, and on some level he can even feel great sorrow and pity for other people…but he doesn’t really care. Not about anybody outside his small circle of family and a few close friends – and even then, he’d not blink to see half the latter in distress if the circumstance were right. Lucius is the sort of man who would let the world burn not because he delights in chaos, but because he doesn’t care enough about the people screaming around him to put it out. He only cares about “the world” as a concept at all because it’s the world that he – and his son – have to life in; the future matters for Draco, not because there’s anything of value in the abstract concept of “the future.” Which is not to say that he is without all feelings of human sympathy; should someone he does care about find themselves in pain or distress of any sort, Lucius will be distraught (possibly furious, depending on the circumstance) and genuinely sympathetic – but only to the people he cares about. Everyone else can burn for all he cares. Lucius Malfoy is not adept at the Cruciatus Curse because he revels in causing other people pain; he’s adept at the Cruciatus Curse because he doesn’t see anything wrong with someone else screaming. He’s not the sort to go out of his way to find a toy to play with the way some (such as his sister-in-law) of his old allies were known to do…but he will smirk and sneer and mock a victim without so much as a flicker of remorse. And why not? Why should he care about other people who don’t care about him?
character biography — doesn’t have to be overly long, just give us the important moments in the character’s life
Lucius is an only child, born late in his father’s life to Abraxas’s fourth wife. Rumors about about the terrible mischances that took the first three – a mysterious illness, a tragic accident, and the scandal of running off to the Côte d'Ivoire with a Mudblood – and about the many miscarriages and cot-deaths that carried-off the family’s previous attempts at an heir. (No one can prove that there are squib babies buried in the estate’s gardens…but no one can prove that there aren’t, either.) When Lucius came along, it was a relief to old Abraxas and he raised his son with both indulgent luxury and demanding expectations. Lucius’s childhood wasn’t easy, with his father always breathing down his neck, but the trade-off was that as long as he excelled at everything, he got anything he could ever want. That seemed like a pretty good deal – and it’s not like it was hard for a clever, talented, ambitious boy to succeed at Hogwarts. Slug Club in his first year, Slytherin Chaser in his third, prefect in his fifth, Quidditch captain in his sixth…and not even Abraxas could blame him for the fact that he did not make Head Boy, not with that Muggle-lover Albus Dumbledore as headmaster. Besides, by then Lucius’s eyes were already on his next ambition…
It wasn’t hard for him to curry favor with the Dark Lord, and Lucius earned his Dark Mark within a year of leaving Hogwarts. He was young, but he was valuable too – not just for his name and social position, but for his charm. Lucius was good in a duel (and grew better fast with so many vicious allies with whom to train and trade knowledge) but Voldemort had many Death Eaters who could fight; Lucius’s value lay in the minds he could sway (through words or spells) whether by recruiting other allies, or merely spreading support for the Dark Lord’s ideals. Abaxas was less than thrilled that his only son would agree to serve anyone, even Voldemort, but he had no qualms with the Dark Lord’s ideals, so their arguments over it never went too far (but Abraxas lost no time in spouting I-told-you-so’s after Voldemort’s fall). War was hard, and often dangerous, but the dark years were brightened by something that overshadowed all of that: love and marriage to the most wonderful witch in the world. (Even Abraxas could find no flaws with his daughter-in-law, although he did make several snide comments about the disgrace of Narcissa’s former sister – until she hexed him into silence, after which he promptly declared her a perfect match for his only son.) It took longer than they might have liked to have a child, but once they did – once they had an heir – it seemed like everything might well be perfect.
There were losses and close-calls during the war, and they had several friends to mourn, but the only direct tragedy in Lucius’s life was the death of his mother when she mistook a deadly herbicide for a harmless sleeping draught – a suspicious tragedy, perhaps, on the heels of two other unexpected deaths, but once again no one (not even Lucius) could prove that his father had been in any way involved. The war, at least, offered a distraction from grief at her death – until the war ended, suddenly and with little ceremony, and the Malfoys found themselves abruptly left on the losing side. They might have been able to weather that storm with little harm (they were far too respected, and too connected, to not be able to squirm free of repercussions) but then Narcissa’s sister had to go off and torture bloody James Potter like that, and…well, on top of everything else it seemed like just “escaping Azkaban” wasn’t enough. The family needed to do something to “prove” to the public that they shouldn’t be painted with the same brush as vicious Bellatrix Lestrange – a grand gesture. And what could be grander than turning their backs on one sister and reconciling with another?
Narcissa wasn’t keen on the idea, but Lucius convinced her – no easy feat, with Cissy being one of the tojurs pur noble House of Black, whose purity-mania had been second only to the unlamented Gaunts, but Lucius had always had a knack for being convincing…and besides, their was their child’s future to think of. So Narcissa agreed, and Lucius led the push of glad-handing and grinning at half-blood and blood-traitors and even the occasional Mudblood, enshrining the Malfoy family in the eyes of the wizarding world as good people. Not blood-traitors themselves, oh no, they never went that far – but a little more easy-going about things than they’d once been; a little more tolerant. They stopped (mostly) using the word Mudblood in public; stopped pushing for pro-pureblood laws with their gold and their influence. They still toed the line of being respectable wix of course, polite and traditional…but less strict about who (and what) they were willing to let into their own inner circle. They even allowed Andromeda’s Mudblood husband and their mongrel brat in their home! Yes, the Malfoys had clearly changed, and all the world could see it.
Lucius recently engaged in another grand gesture, although this one with more sincerity and enthusiasm: the “little girl” that he and his wife had thought they were raising declared himself to be a wizard, not a witch, and while it took the Malfoys a little while to come on board with the idea (not so much because they had trouble with the concept as because the child’s ability to explain himself was stymied somewhat by Lucius’s own rather flippant disregard for gender norms – so saying he was just like daddy didn’t mean as much as it would have in another house) once they did, they didn’t hold back. Narcissa pulled down the book of constellations to help her son find a new name (it didn’t take him long – I can be a dragon? I wanna be a dragon!) while Lucius took-out a full-page ad in the Daily Prophet to print an amended birth announcement so the whole world would know about their precious Draco. Lucius would have been happy to spend the rest of his life preening over his clever, brilliant, perfect son, and litlte else – but it seems the world has other plans in mind.
As rumors of darkness returning swirl, the Malfoys find themselves in a difficult position: they turned their backs on the more hardcore of their old allies to court new, muddier friends; they didn’t so much renounce the old ways as quietly shuffle away from them…and now the old ways are calling in what they owe. If the Dark Lord is indeed coming back – or even if he isn’t, and it’s merely other old supporters rallying the cause again – the Malfoys will be in trouble. They’ll be punished for their disloyalty, and not even Lucius’s silver tongue will be enough to talk their way out of that – not after they made such a public show of reconciling with Narcissa’s blood-traitor relatives, not after everything Lucius has said to the public and the press, all the work they’ve done to build a new reputation…work that may now doom them. The only way to keep themselves safe from the Dark Lord’s retribution is to lean in and really commit to the newer, more “tolerant” ideals to which they’ve spent the last five years paying lip service. If their old allies are their enemies now, that means they need to make their old enemies into allies – ingratiate themselves so well that those they once fought will be willing to protect them against their old friends. It’s not going to be pleasant…but there’s nothing Lucius won’t do to keep his family safe. Nothing.
plot ideas — either for the broader group plot or for your specific character
THE DIARY of course! Since Lucius was entrusted with that by Voldemort shortly before the Dark Lord’s death when he was still a devoted follower…which he isn’t, anymore. So now what? How/when/if will he figure out what this thing is, or that it’s something that matters now? Will he dare to defy Voldemort enough to actually help destroy that? Will he want to keep it for some sort of insurance for himself? Will learning what it is (what sort of dangerous thing the Dark Lord put in the same house as his son!) give him and Sirius a reason to work together, and how awkward will that be for both of them? Will his knowledge of the Dark Arts prove invaluable to Sirius’s mission to destroy the horcruxes, both giving him a chance to do “good” using his “bad” skills and also forcing Sirius to grapple with the conflicting issue of “ends justifying the means” and what it means to use the Dark Arts for “the greater good”? Will he keep possession of the diary a secret (maybe purposefully, maybe without understanding that it matters) too long and endanger his family by having it there when the Dark Lord comes back for it? Will he get rid of it and face Voldemort’s wrath for that later, instead – and then have no diary he can offer-up to temper said wrath? There are a lot of ways that this can go, and I’m on board for ALL of them!
DOBBY – we know he hates the Malfoys, hates working for them. Probably doesn’t buy into their “we’re good now, mkay?” vibe at all…so does that set him up to be this story’s Kreacher? Will he find a way to betray them, and if he does what will that do – will it be a betrayal that hurts the Order and Dumbledore as well? One that opens a weakness for the Dark Lord or his old Death Eaters to take advantage of? Dobby was a savior in canon because it was Harry Potter he wanted to help, but now that the Malfoys are “good guys” (technically speaking) will that make Dobby easy for the bad guys to manipulate or take advantage of? Or might Dobby simply take action on his own without being aware of the wider consequences, and inadvertently bring disaster? Again, lots of directions that this one could go depending on what the greater game plot demands – but I think the idea of having Dobby serve as a sort of cat’s paw or monkey wrench at some point would be really interesting, so file that one away on your back burner! ;)
ROSIERS – they’re related pretty closely through Narcissa’s mother (and tbh all the pure-bloods are related somehow the inbreeding is strong here lol) which also ties them to the Longbottoms through Alice and Evan being cousins; given the rather disparate sides on which those families stand, that puts some nice tension into the room…so how does that translate? Maybe a birthday party for dear little Draco (and if it’s his first birthday party as a boy, you know the Malfoys are going to go even bigger and more absurd with the extravaganza than their usual already over-the-top nonsense) that ends up getting a little out of hand – direct conflict that breaks-out into dueling? Party-crashing that gets ugly? Sabotage? Attempted poisoning? An attack? Lots of possibilities, again, dependent on what stage of things the plot has reached at the time – but given the Malfoys’ nature as gregarious social butterflies, it would be easy enough to have them throw a party for any reason any time one was needed for a plot event, whether it involves the Rosiers/Longbottoms or not!
LONGBOTTOMS – speaking of the Longbottoms…what is their relationship with the Malfoys? (Do they have one?) How close (or not at all) was Alice to Narcissa before their respective marriages, did they know each other well? Were they so distant they barely considered themselves family at all? Somewhere in between? That’s obviously something to be plotted/discussed between any Narcissa and Alice players, of course – I just think it could be very interesting to deal with any sort of connection between the Longbottoms, who were responsible for the death of Voldemort, and the Malfoys, whose world was up-ended by said death. Plus, they literally fought on opposite sides of a war…do the Longbottoms suspect that Lucius was under one of those silver masks? Do Lucius and Narcissa know that the Longbottoms were in the Order? They’re Aurors too, which probably puts some strife into things given the Malfoys’ predilection for the Dark Arts (and to circumventing the law in general) even if they’ve never been caught red-handed enough to face more than a few wink-and-a-nod fines. They’ve also got sons the same age; with the Malfoys being technically “good guys” this time, does that mean that Draco and Neville might end up having a play-date or two? Again, this all depends on plotting and backstories of other players, but I’m definitely in for seeing something happen with these two families!
POTTERS – His sister-in-law tortured Lily’s husband into a coma. He’s close friends with Severus, one of Lily’s oldest friends. And her current parenting-partner is his wife’s cousin (who’s currently working on destroying Voldemort’s horcruxes, one of which is stashed in Lucius’s house). Can anyone say awkward? Because I sure as hell can! There are a lot of things to tie these people unwillingly together even before their sons end up rivals at school together, and I’m eager to explore all of them.
DEATH EATERS – Lucius wasn’t just allies with these people; he was, in many cases, friends. Always an outgoing, charming, vivacious wizard, Lucius was popular all his life – good at making friends, and also good at assessing people and knowing how to get them on his side, whether by ingratiating himself to them or making them want to ingratiate themselves to him, etc. So even among the cut-throat, backstabbing, power-hungry Death Eaters, he was well-liked by more than most…but how far does friendship really go? He’s maintained a cordial, sometimes even friendly relationship with many of his old comrades-in-marks despite his public persona of someone barely better than a blood-traitor in their eyes…but does that mean any of them would hesitate to Avada Kedavra him on their old master’s orders? Can he expect any mercy, any help, any quarter – if not for himself, maybe at least for his wife and son? Maybe he should work to cozy-up to them even more…or maybe he should cut ties and put as much distance between them as possible, for the sake of safety. He might well do all of the above with different characters, so please – if you write a Death Eater, let’s plot out some drama!
SEVERUS SNAPE – Lucius was the first person to truly welcome Severus to the wizarding world, and while Lucius didn’t see anything special about the scrawny boy at first glance – he was just doing his duty as a newly-minted prefect to Slytherin’s new crop of first years – it didn’t take him long to realize that Severs was special…and vulnerable. One of, if not the, cleverest snakes in his year, it was obvious to anyone with eyes (translation: almost no one) that the boy was gifted. He was lonely too, and having someone like Lucius Malfoy demonstrate acceptance and praise of him was probably intoxicating to Severus. No wonder he ended up making friends with the sort of wannabe-Death Eaters that Lucius had hung around with in school; they probably followed Lucius’s lead, looked at scrawny Severus, and assumed that if Lucius thought he was valuable it must be true. Perhaps Lucius was even the one who made the overture to welcome Snape into the Death Eaters, the one who assured the Dark Lord that this greasy-haired half-blood was more than he seemed…I don’t know, but I’d love to plot-out a relationship with a Severus player! I think Lucius was probably a condescending bastard to Snape because he’s that way with everyone, but I also think he genuinely likes Snape too. I think Lucius considers him a close friend – and after the war ended with the both of them not on the side they’d seemed to be, one of the closest – and the fact that he sometimes tries to manipulate Snape doesn’t impact that at all; that’s what friends do, right? So I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s a healthy, fair relationship…but it’s also genuine on Lucius’s part. He’d be shocked to be told that he’s ever not treated Severus well, honestly – he thinks he has. And given Snape’s rather troubled, traumatic childhood, it’s even possible that Snape agrees idk! I’d love to talk ideas through with whoever ends up playing Severus – especially what comes next. Does Lucius figure out that Snape is in the Order? He certainly knows that Snape is close to Dumbledore – which means that his fifteen-year-old instincts were right: Snape is valuable. Perhaps the mos valuable person Lucius knows, the one who might well save his skin in the days to come…if he can trust Snape to have his back, now that the both of them have turned their backs on the man who Marked them.
extra — honestly this app is already a million years long, so no, I am not going to force anyone to look at anything else I’M SORRY IT’S SO DAMN LONG XD

Ted is in such a hard place of having to choose between fighting for what he believes in and protecting his family, and I’m excited to see the way that you play that out as things begin to heat up again. Ted’s backstory is just truly heartbreaking and yet it’s so beautiful the way his relationship with Andromeda and Dora grounds him. I’m so excited to have you here! Please send in your blog (no sideblogs for first characters, please) in the next 24 hours and be sure to take a look at our new player checklist.Welcome home, we’re so excited to have you join the family!

IC Overview
name — Edward ‘Ted’ Tonks age — 31, born 8th September 1955 gender — cis male sexuality — heterosexual
patronus — golden retriever
boggart — it used to be his mother, cold and alone without anyone, but it’s now changed to the lifeless forms of his wife and child
IC In Depth
personality traits —
STEADFAST : as an eastender, ted grew up keeping his friends close and everyone else at as far a distance as he could. there was a sort of code of honour around the council estates, and you stuck by your own, stayed wary of anyone who would have cause to harm you, and look after those who needed it. it was probably his easy loyalty that sorted him into hufflepuff, and it’s given freely and fiercely to those who prove they’re worthy of it.
ALTRUISTIC : as well as his loyalty, ted’s friendship and care were easy to come by for those who earned it. he likes to feel the upstairs rooms of his pub have become a bit of a home for waifs and strays. while he decided not to join the order himself, that doesn’t mean he won’t help out where he can, offering members the rooms to sleep in, hold meetings if needed, and he’s more than willing to help patch up wounds after hours if needed. he knows that it could be dangerous for his family, but as long as he keeps it quiet and discreet, he wants to offer help wherever he can, the consequences be damned.
BOISTEROUS : ted’s mum has always called him a ‘man’s man’, and while he doesn’t exactly like the sound of that, he’s known enough of them to know what she means. he’s loud, he’s always up for a laugh, but he can be quick to anger and slow to soothe when he wants to be, and that rowdiness can often be mistaken for immaturity, rather than the well meaning gregarious nature he tries to give off. while he knows more often than not he does come off that way, friendly and open and lively, it can also be seen as cockiness or overconfidence, and he’s not always the best at toning it down.
INSECURE : a muggleborn, born to a family barely surviving on the breadline, with a past that included a tendency for violence and petty crime. despite ted’s overwhelming sense of goodness, he believes that, some days, the badness and inferior background will one day catch up with him, and his life will fall down around his ears. in his mind, ted isn’t deserving of the life he has. sometimes, he feels like he isn’t enough for his wife, and never was, and that one day, especially now that narcissa is back in her life, andromeda will truly see what she’s been missing out on and leave him, realising that he’s just a nobody with a poor family with nothing to offer her or their daughter. and what will he be then? he knows the answer: a man with no place in the war and no place back in the muggle world with no place to go.
character biography —
edward tonks took his first breath as the last of the summer winds blew through london. michael and maggie tonks wrapped their son in the only good blanket in the house, and a mere four hours after his birth, while he was sound asleep in a bedside drawer turned crib, the new parents were fixing the same leaking tap they were before their son decided to make an appearance. living in the east end of london meant that there were too many people, too many mouths to feed, but not enough money and not enough jobs. the tonks’s twenty year old council house was crumbling down around them, and ted’s parents job at the local biscuit factory meant that they were the lucky ones, and they seemed to be the only people in peckham who managed to hold down a steady job and keep their dingy dwellings.
ted was never at home much. one of his parents would work during the day while the other slept and this would swap during the night, so his time was much better spent outside. it’s not that his parents didn’t want him milling around the house, but rather that wherever ted decided to roam was never a quiet place for long. indeed it seemed that ted had the whole of london in the palm of his hand, and he intended to roam every alleyway and slip road, even if it was just to ensure his mum and dad got some rest.
ted was a good kid, truly he was. he was polite, and he never brought any trouble to his front doorstep, and he held open doors for people and helped anyone who needed it. yet despite this, his quasi-nomadic tendencies often offered a less than savoury pathway, and once ted took one wrong turn down it, it seemed he couldn’t get off it. he quickly turned to petty crime, yet he was never sure if it was out of necessity or boredom. he would pinch food from local shops at first, but then it turned to toys, sheets, soap and other things he could slip into one of his dad’s old jackets. he’d then trek the long walk to portobello road once a week to flog his wares. (the extra couple of pounds he made a week were stored in an old wine bottle his grandma had gifted them one christmas, and when it was filled it was left for his parents.) it was at the age of nine he witnessed his first fight, and he ran home soon afterwards. the image of the boys he looked up to, the misguided idols of his youth, bloodied and bruised scared him stiff, and the faint wail of police sirens was the final push to send him running. it dawned on him, under the scant safety of his rough duvet, that this was the way his life would go. he would loiter and steal his way through his teenage years, and if he was lucky, he’d spend adulthood behind bars instead of six feet under. the realisation lay heavy on his shoulders, and the first time he ever prayed the same way his mum did every night, he wished and wished for a way out, for some miracle to come to him to save him from the backstreets. this miracle came two weeks before his eleventh birthday, in the form of a tall man with a grey beard sitting on his couch, sipping cheap tea from a chipped mug and eating the good biscuits with the chocolate on that his mum saved for when the priest came round.
he hadn’t even batted an eyelid, and then ted found himself sat on the hogwarts express, in the first new uniform he had been bought since he was eight, fitting almost perfectly, but there was still some room for him to grow into his jumper. tears sprang into his eyes when he saw the castle, his new beginning, and he was quickly sorted into hufflepuff. within a few weeks, he had proudly garnered a reputation as being loud, happy-go-lucky, and in one rare slip up from one professor, ballsy. a small part of him knew it was too good to be true, but ted drowned it out with potions, gobstones, and pumpkin juice. that was, until, his third year, when his perfect illusion was shattered beyond compare. he was called out of his astrology lesson and was asked to make his way up to dumbledore’s office. when he got there, he found dumbledore, mcgonagall and his head of house, a mixture of pity and hurt present on their faces. when dumbledore stepped aside to reveal his parish priest, rosary beads in hand, dressed in black, he fell to the floor, tears streaming down his face, a scream caught in his throat. his father had been killed in an explosion at the factory, dumbledore explained, caused by faulty, cheap wires. his tears had just about dried when he got to his mother; the portkey from hogwarts didn’t reach his house quick enough in his opinion. for the first time in forever, ted was silent. he felt like a chunk of his heart had been wrenched from his chest, but he still couldn’t find an excuse for the feeling that something was wrong and that somebody wasn’t telling him something.
he returned to hogwarts sixth months later, and there was no denying that ted just wasn’t ted anymore. he didn’t want his grief to change him, and he let on that everything was fine, but his laughs were forced and the twinkle of amusement seldom lit up his blue eyes anymore. he was barely going through the motions, and his whole life was a dull cycle of eat, sleep, pretend, repeat. life got easier for ted. his grief, as grief does, faded from a sharp pain to a dull ache, and eventually, the light returned to his eyes and his days became a lot easier to get through, and meeting the love of his life helped him too, and his thoughts were then consumed with life after school, bringing andromeda home to meet his mum, maybe putting a ring on her finger one day.
he bought his pub when he was 20. an old friend of his dad’s had been selling it, right on the corner of diagon alley ( not that they knew that ) and ted had jumped at taking over as landlord, extending the back so half of the pub served exclusively muggles and the other half, heavily guarded by magic, served wizards and witches and wix. it’s funny, how he feels embarrassed about it still, at 31, feeling he should have a more noble profession to provide for his family, but he’s all but cut his shifts, leaving it in the capable hands of his staff, and it makes a steady income, enough and more for the three of them. still,  he thinks that sometimes his mum wished he had become a plumber or had some sort magical office job, but ted supposed he was never one for convention.
it wasn’t until his 25th birthday that his mother told him the truth. his mother, looking the strongest she had in months, relayed the events, her voice detached and unwavering, and as soon as the word mudblood left her lips, ted punched a hole in the kitchen wall. there was a war brewing, and the urge to fight had never been stronger in him, but he had a wife, a mother, a baby girl. if he was eighteen, he’d have his wand at the ready and blood already on his hands, but he wasn’t, and so he bit his tongue and clenched his fists and did what he had to do to keep his family safe. now that it seems voldemort is on the rise again, he doesn’t know if it’s going to be easier or harder to do the same again.
plot ideas —
i think it would be cool to explore ted’s restlessness about the war, especially with the person who’ll play andromeda, and how that paired with narcissa coming back into her life could place strain on their relationship! i’d also looooove to see how narcissa & lucius and ted get along when they’re forced to share space. alsohis dynamic with the order, how much he sympathises and wants to join and yet distance himself at the same time, i think that would be really interesting
extra — pinterest board here { x } !

Congrats, Rachie, you have been accepted to AL for the role of Alice Longbottom (FC: Willa Holland). Wow, Rachie, excellent job! Alice is in such an interesting place in life and has so much anxiety over the fact that it was her son who Voldemort went after. Any mother would just have such PTSD from that, and I could really feel her anxiety through your writing. You did an excellent job of getting into where her headspace would be in this verse, and I’m excited to see you play it out! Please send in your blog (no sideblogs for first characters, please) in the next 24 hours and be sure to take a look at our new player checklist. Welcome home, we’re so excited to have you join the family!
OOC
name — Rachie age — 28 pronouns — she/her timezone — GMT activity level —8/9. Im usually on every day for a few hours. I work in a hospital so super busy right now, but rping is a release for me, so I def ry to be on every day
IC Overview
name — Alice Longbottom age — 29 gender — Female sexuality —  Hetrosexual patronus — White Rabbit boggart — Neville and Frank dying
IC In Depth
personality traits — at least two positive and two negative, explain
Loyal – Alice is immensely loyal, to those whom she feels deserve her loyalty. Blood ties mean little to Alice, especially considering the hatred she witnessed as she grew up. But for those whom she truly loves, she will be truly loyal to.
Hard-working – Alice is hard worker. In nearly every part of her life she has had to work hard. At school she had work hard to just pass her classes, and at work she always found that she was having to prove herself. She is determined to do well though, and so knows all this hard work is worth it.
Guilt-Ridden – Alice has a bad habit of always feeling guilt. She double and triple checks her decisions to make sure she is doing the right thing, but most of the time later on she feels guilty about the decisions she makes. This trait tends to not be that visible, but it’s because Alice can put a front on. Those who she allows to get close might see this level of her personality, but it is mostly only Frank that she confides in about the guilty she feels, especially around how her decisions put him and their child at risk.
Impulsive – Alice can be pretty impulsive, and sometimes jumps into things without really thinking them through. This is a trait that has kind of mellowed a little since she had Neville, but she has previously been known to jump into things without necessarily thinking them through. This was very evident in her career, where she would want to do every task, and catch every bad guy.
character biography — doesn’t have to be overly long, just give us the important moments in the character’s life
Alice Longbottom (neé Rosier) was born into the world of the pureblood elite. She’s cousin to the famous Black sisters, but they couldn’t be any different. Where as most of her blood relations were focused upon blood status Alice was never really bothered by it, and didn’t really understand why they were so focused upon it.
Looking back she can see that she really didn’t fit in well with her family.
When she went to Hogwarts she was sorted into Gryffindor. This was a shock to the family, and was just the start of her separation from her family. By the time she left Hogwarts she wasn’t speaking to them anymore. She had a good group of friends, that they didn’t really approve of. The thing was, she preferred her friends to her family.
She’d known since fourth year that she had wanted to be an auror. Alice had had to work for it. She wasn’t really academically gifted, and had to fight to get the grades. But she was determined.
She made the auror program the year she graduated Hogwarts, and was one of the brightest and talented aurors her age. She still struggled with the academic side, but she worked hard to prove herself.
Frank was there alongside her for as long as she can remember. She can’t quite put the finger on when they went from friends to lovers, but she couldn’t imagine life without him. (purposely left this kinda vague so can plot and headcanon with whoever plays Frank)
The war terrified her, even though she was trained for it. Her “betrayal” of her family always played on her mind, and she was always worried that that put a target on their back. The prophecy just made things worse
She was so glad, and so grateful that they managed to make it through the war, even though she still feels immensely guilty that Frank lost his mom. Alice doesn’t think she can ever forgive herself for that because she still truly believes that it was her past choices that put such a big target on their back
After the war Alice left the auror office. She wanted to be with Neville more, and with less dark wizards and witches, there wasn’t the need for her. She is still struggling to find her place in this new world.
plot ideas — either for the broader group plot or for your specific character
Potentially coming back to being an auror if the dark lord did return. Alice would really want to protect her family, and so would feel that she needed to do that by being an auror. Or at least being more active in the Order. She would want to do something
Some sort of drama with Frank, probably based around him not seeing things as clearly as she does. She’s super stressed and worried about the dark lord coming back, so them maybe arguing / struggling with that.
Alice trying to find her part in the “new” world. She kind feels that the order and auror office don’t really need her anymore, but doesn’t quite know where she belongs. She doesn’t just want to be a mother, but is struggling to find her place
Something related to her Rosier / black  connections?
Looking into her guilt around being the cause of why her family were targeted by the dark lord
extra — not mandatory, but feel free to include anything else such as headcanons, mockblog, pinterest board, moodboards, etc.
Headcanon;
Alice feels that her past decisions, and her choices to leave the elite pureblood behind were one of the reasons why her family were targeted, and nearly killed during the wizarding world. She feels very guilty about Frank’s moms death, and blames herself. She wonders if Augusta might still be alive if she hadn’t made those choices during her teenage years.

Congrats, EMILIA, you have been accepted to AL for the role of OC OPHELIA ROWLE (FC: Imaan Hammam). Ahhh, wow, Emilia, I absolutely adore Ophelia already! Your application was wonderful and you’ve built an incredible character. I can’t wait to see her come to life in the midst of our plot! Your writing was absolutely beautiful and I’m delighted that you’re joining us!! Please send in your blog (no sideblogs for first characters, please) in the next 24 hours and be sure to take a look at our new player checklist. Welcome home (once again), we’re so excited to have you join the family!
OOC
name — Emilia age — 19 pronouns — She/ Her timezone — EST activity level — As of now I have a lot of free time and can be very active, especially on weekends.
IC Overview
name — Ophelia Rowle faceclaim — Imaan Hammam, Jessica Parker Kennedy, or Rania Benchegra age — 26 gender — Female sexuality — Bisexual
patronus — A coyote.  Just like her patronus, Ophelia could be dropped just about anywhere and find a way to make it out on top. And yet, also like the coyote, Ophelia is often misunderstood and painted as a villain.
boggart — She despises the fact that it’s her mother. Then again, a shiver still runs up her spine every time she thinks about that woman. She can never forget how her voice boomed like thunder when she was angry, nor the sound of glass shattering when thrown against a wall. Ophelia sees all the qualities she hates in herself stem from her.
IC In Depth
personality traits —
+Resourceful
Ophelia finds a way to get things done. She uses quick wit to evaluate situations; to puzzle together the bigger picture and see things for how they are and how they could be.
+Industrious
When Ophelia works towards a goal, she’ll be damned before she allows someone to stand in her way. Years of having her ambitions trampled on by her father in favor of her older brother have left her diligent and downright ruthless in order to get what she desires.
- Guarded
Ophelia resembles a bear trap: get too close and she’ll snap shut, but not without taking a piece of you with her. She finds comfort within the walls she’s built up, careful not to let anyone inside. She’ll inevitably disappoint them, anyway.
- No Self-Esteem
Nothing she does is ever good enough. Ophelia tends to push herself to the absolute limit in order to prove her worth, but it will never satisfy her. She has to do her best, to be the best and she cannot accept that she’s only human. It’s only a matter of time before she breaks.
character biography —
Born in Louisiana, her earliest memories were dotted with the warmth of the summer sun and only contrasted with the polar blue of her mother’s eyes and the chill of her father’s indifference. By the time she’s five, Ophelia’s all too familiar with the metallic taste of blood in her mouth from biting her tongue too hard. Pureblood girls should be seen rather than heard, according to her mother. One off hand comment about thinking marriage is ‘icky’ and Ophelia winds up jinxed with a mouthful of soap bubbles. A life long aversion to the pink-speckled Bertie Bott jelly bean and a reluctance to argue with her mother follows. She has three older siblings, only her brother Otto makes time for her.
At eleven she stands dead-center of a gordian knot. Ophelia stares back at the four statues in front of her, insides fluttering. The whole school is looking at her from the balcony and the dark wood paneling of the entrance hall feels as though it’s closing in. She looks up to the balcony, and there he is. Her brother’s smile is crooked and good-natured. Two statues move forward: Wampus, who favors warriors and Horned Serpent, who favors scholars. Ophelia will later wonder how her life would have been different if she had joined Wampus. Either way, she prospered in Horned Serpent, her keen mind soaking up all she could get her hands on to read. Ophelia’s grades were outstanding, but it wasn’t enough. The best and only the best was all she would accept. Anything less was a failure.  Ilvermorny became her home; a place where she could flourish. She was safe behind the castle walls, even as whispers of war sailed in from across the Atlantic.
She’s fifteen when Otto is disowned. His smile was still crooked as he cursed their family name with a mouthful of blood. Ophelia watched from afar with her other siblings as her mother’s silvery voice contorted into a roar more akin to a Hungarian Horntail than a five-foot-two woman. She flinches whenever an impossibly straight red jet of light hits the young man in the chest. He goes down with a cry of unbearable pain and Ophelia’s mind drifts to Christmas, only three days away. She’s always loved the holiday. With the twinkling lights and the annual parties, or when their family tolerates each other long enough to sit at a family dinner. Now, all she sees is her brother begging for mercy on the floor. She doesn’t like the holiday season after that ever again.
England is foreign to her. The craggy cliffs of Dorset where her cousins reside are so far away from the muddy Mississippi River. But she steels herself and pulls through because that’s what she has to do. Her aunt and uncle talk about their Dark Lord with all the fervor of the religious zealots back home. He’s a messiah in their eyes, giving their hatred for no maj-borns a platform. Ophelia hears him speak at a party a few days before she turns sixteen. He’s charismatic, she’ll give him that, but there’s something about him that makes her want to turn tail and run for the hills. At Hogwarts she’s sorted into her second house with a snake as its mascot. Slytherin house is not as warm as Horned Serpent, and it is not her home. More than often she finds it hard to sleep in that cold, damp dungeon. But this is her life now, and she adapts. For the next two years she claws her way to academic success, but stays notoriously aloof to her fellow peers. There are times she feels as though there is something wrong with her. She feels empty inside, as if someone took a melon baller and scooped out everything good about her.
She doesn’t return to America when she graduates. War gives her reasons to burn bridges, makes it easier for her to claim, ‘oh, I’m busy’ and move on with her day. Ophelia gets her training as an auror and right off the bat her family disapproves. It goes against her childhood teachings of ‘seen, not heard,’ and arguments are futile. No matter how many times she claims it’s to get a foothold in the Ministry, her family finds it a waste of her time. She could do much more as a servant to the Dark Lord (by this time his name has become synonymous with the taste of bile and a retch of disgust). It’s too late anyways, Ophelia already has her mind set and by God she’d like to see them try and stop her. She will be the servant of no one, thank you very much. Her outlook on the Order isn’t much better, though. So what if they get rid of Voldemort? There will be another like him. And another after that, and so on and so forth. Maybe she’s just a cynic, but history continues to prove her right. What makes this time different? Not a goddamn thing. But there’s a part of her that wants them to prove her wrong— a first in her life, given she hates being wrong. The part of her who remembers her brother smiling with a mouthful of blood in a final act of defiance. Because Ophelia is cynical enough to know there will always be another Dark Lord, but the determined bit of hope left in her heart knows there will always be more willing to fight against him. Will she be one of them?
plot ideas —
I think Ophelia needs someone to see through her air of indifference. She needs someone to prove to her there’s much more to life than power and control. It doesn’t matter whether it’s romantic or platonic, she just needs someone she can trust. She’s set such unrealistic standards for herself that she’s completely convinced that she’s not good enough. It’d be interesting to see how she could react to someone accepting her flaws and all… or at least calling her out on her bullshit.
Something steeped in political intrigue is right up her alley. Perhaps something sways her from her neutral position and she gets wrapped up in it. Maybe one side offers her something she desires or the other twists her arm into helping them. Even if it’s something as simple (and potentially hilarious) as sleazing it up with people in high positions of power, I really think she’d thrive in that kind of situation.

Headcannons
She’s never been in a serious relationship before besides a few noncommittal flings. Ophelia’s never really been good at keeping friends, either, because she holds them at such a far distance. She turns into a bumbling mess when it comes to talking about feelings.
Ophelia, unlike her family, doesn’t give a damn about blood politics. She only values hard work and intelligence in others.
Despite being in not one, but two houses with serpents as their mascots, Ophelia’s actually terrified of snakes. When she was a toddler, her oldest brother tossed a corn snake into her cradle and she’s hated the things ever since.
