In the world premiere of Pulitzer/Tony Award nominee Craig Lucas's (Prelude to a Kiss, An American in Paris, Amelie) zany and touching new play, THREE TALES OF LIFE AND DEATH, three stories collide in a world of voyeuristic theatre critics, bartenders with too much spirit and mysterious strangers looking for love in the afternoon.

What was the inspiration for this performance? - Three Tales of Life and Death by Craig Lucas came about as a result of both an actress and a playwright that I produced at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater in New York. Rattlestick produced Ode to Joy by Craig Lucas in 2013 and Pamela Shaw was cast in three Rattlestick shows over a 3 year period from 2013-2015. Pamela was very interested in performing several of Craig’s one act plays and Craig was eager for us to produce them. We have added the talents of Richard Kline, from the American Sitcom Three’s Company, to the cast and we are off and running.
Is performance still a good space for the public discussion of ideas? YES!!!!
How did you become interested in making performance? As an avid fan of theater, I became interested in producing theater at a not for profit level in the off-Broadway scene in New York. This is my 11th year of producing.
Is there any particular approach to the making of the show? Try to keep the production as simple as possible and let the playwright’s words and the actors carry the performance.
Does the show fit with your usual productions? The show is a little more scaled down from a design perspective and the running time is shorter than my usual productions, but that is what is necessary to effectively executive a production at the Fringe.
What do you hope that the audience will experience? I hope that audiences will be entertained and inspired by Craig’s beautiful and intriguing stories and the top notch acting delivered by Richard Kline and Pamela Shaw.
In Phase 1, Love and Life, critics provide live commentary as the a couple make extra-marital love for the first time and the son of an overly anxious woman reflects on his mother and her tendencies to worry....,
In Phase 2, Death, as a bar tender is closing up for the night, a mysterious stranger walks in...
In Phase 3, Afterlife, in two separate scenes, two spirits encounter each other in Limbo and grapple with their former lives and what comes next.
Making their Edinburgh Fringe debuts, US comedy legends Richard Kline (of the US sitcom Three's Company) and Pamela Shaw (Swingers), perform these three one-act plays directed by Manhattan Theater Club's Associate Director Hunter Bird.

Day 66: I am hoping to make today a two show day. I have tickets to All the Fine Boys in the afternoon and am hoping to score a lottery ticket or something deal from TKTs. I ran errands in the morning: stocked up on cleaning supplies and groceries. I finished off my goat cheese with some crackers for lunch and made my way downtown for the show. It was in a tiny theatre and I had a great seat. The show was pretty good. It followed two young girls as they discover the wonders of young love. It was relatable and entertaining. Abigail Breslin was great onstage, as were all of her cast mates. After the show they were all out in the lobby mulling about as the theatre emptied. Miss Breslin told me she loved my hair and I just about died. She is so talented and beautiful. So grateful that Little Miss Sunshine liked my braided up-do. I briefly congratulated the other three actors on their fantastic performances and then headed straight to TKTs. I tried for Amelie and War Paint but they were both only at 40% off and were over $100. So I got a mezzanine seat to Present Laughter. Far up but on the aisle. Zoë and I met up for dinner. We tried to get into a dumpling place across the street from the hotel but it was packed. We made our way downtown trying to find somewhere else to eat. Everywhere we were interested in was packed. We ended up at the Times Square Applebees. It was busy and the service was crappy but it was food. I had to dine and dash off to my show. I got sweet potato fries with tasty dipping sauces. I then booked it to the St. James for Present Laughter. Kevin Kline was wondrous. The show was hilarious. I have only read a few of Noel Coward’s pieces before and wasn’t much of a fan. But Kevin Kline, Kate Burton, and Cobie Smulders were dazzling on stage. The set was gorgeous. A single set interior of a fancy flat. The costumes were resplendent. I wish I’d had a better seat but I’m glad I crossed it off my list. I came back and started the next season of Love that just came out on Netflix and made some tea. I am beginning to get sick. I hope it doesn’t last long. Here has a huge festival going on the next two weeks and I am working a lot. I popped some Nyquil so I could hopefully sleep off the worst of it.
